  • Since they were first produced in 1982, Michael Harding oil paints have earned a reputation for being among the finest oil paints available to artists today. Michael Harding's past as an artist, and his love of the Old Masters, inspired him to create oil paints that are free from fillers, extenders, and driers - allowing the unique characteristics of each pigment to shine through.
In part two of our conversation with Michael Harding, he shares some of his favourite pigments, and tells us why the fat over lean rule is so important in oil painting.

2/15/2022 USA Grandpa Bill: I want to thank Michael and Jackson's for this video that has taught me more, opened my eyes more. I am moving to buy Michael's paints because of his care, tenacity, perseverance through the years. I feel admiration for his starting premise and working in his bedroom. He represents the best of what historically inventive Great Britain, and America, made and caused to happen. In short, I guess I admire him.

Fat over lean, the golden rule of oil painting nicely explained. Is Pip Seymore's explanation also valid? He says in his Handbook for Artists that the base layer should be the fastest drying one and the subsequent layers should be progressively slower drying to avoid the inter-layer stresses and problems described by MH. I love the weight test- very useful!

This was fantastic! Very useful, didn't know that about his vermillion, thought it was lead, instead of mercury. Cool to know, also about oily colors over heavier colors. I love my MH paints, always top notch quality 👌 my favorite probably the Genuine naples yellow light, might have to try the Genuine Vermillion when I can set aside an extra $100! 😆might be a little less(that's Rublevs price) I'm sure it's lovely tho
