OWL was my favorite form of entertainment. Beyond stoked for this, and really hoping it encourages all of our favorite personalities to stay with the game!
From Japan, yeah, the game is still quite popular here (but not as much as Apex and Valorant, which popularity rise were just incredible for pc games in the japanese market), and we've seen a few gifts from Blizzard, like a special promo video for kiriko created and released FOR japan, and a popular discord community server for japan that helps when you don't have a full team of friend, but don't want to play in soloq Crazy Racoon is also doing a lot of work in the esport industry locally, (SF6, Overwatch, Apex) by creating tournament not for pros, but with vtubers / youtubers AND Pro coaching which hugely help with popularization of the games (for SF6 for example, I'm pretty sure that outside of EVO, CR cups have the highest viewerships recorded). ALso, I think faceit is basically going to be in game tournament organization + potentially a 5 stack ranking system.
@@kokemon84 what's not to understand? I'm excited for the potential and implications of a successful esports scene. I believe that'll be great for the game and benefits all players even if you don't watch esports. If it's successful it'll grow the game and playerbase, potentially encourage the balance team to balance more for high level play, idk. Lots of good things can come from this
I love how I skipped to the timestamp for Matt’s appearance for an “important message” and it’s just him talking roasting everyone LMAO. Back to the regularly scheduled programming
this news is doing something to me emotionally man, i'm so nostalgic for old overwatch league back when i was in high school. i used to have big dreams about working in the industry, which i eventually gave up on, but this is reviving some of that spirit in me. i really hope this will result in a local scene i can get involved with, even on a volunteer basis in my free time
RIP Contenders, enjoyed that immensely. I hope their casters land on their feet. I’ll definitely miss OWL too. I wonder where Soe and Danny will end up.
I'm with Jake about an alternative ladder that incentivizes teamplay and collaboration. Definitely what I miss most about the early years where that was more the standard.
One thing that im super not excited about and will probably be a dealbreaker for me is Saudi backing faceit. The amount of human rights abuses they commit just cant be overlooked. At least Korea/apac will be run by a different group. The best of the best players r there anyways. Be careful who u get in bed with.
Last year 61.4% of the Overwatch League was Korean. Korea has more players at the highest level than the entire world put together. This percentage grows even bigger if you only count the very top tier players. The entire top 5 (and more) FS and the top 5 MS are all Korean. At least 4 out of the top 5 tanks are all Korean. Kevster and Leave are the only non Koreans in the top 10 flex dps. The last 2 seasons of owl a fully Korean team won the league. I prefer level of play over diversity in nationality but that might be me
Someone who is really good at the game. Please consider the name Outlaws (potentially with a city name close to your players hearts, potentially just like that or maybe, if you're feeling extra silly use a certain midwestern US city). This is not legal advice, all I'm saying: It would be funny m!
I will point out the Japanese players are more likely to be more comfortable speaking English than Korean so it's possible that's an advantage to picking up Australian players over Korean ones
I 100% agree with Jakes take on wanting a place for tryhards to feel confident that others care as much as you. Ranked is a fucking joke, even at GM. It boils down to who can cheese the opponents the best because few com. It sucks and it's cringe, we need FPL.
French Guyana is more or less just a region of France, players from there would be native to the EMEA and not NA region. Suriname and Guyana both are rather fragile states but so is half of South and Middle America. No idea for Panama, it supposedly is one of the less bad ones.
I just started playing OW2 like 3 weeks ago. I left F1 eSports bc it was canceled. And now this is back at the perfect time to be playing. I've got a team pretty much. And I play with a former OW1 London Spitfire player.
@@willyterrazas693 just because you get in trouble for being on your phone at work doesn’t mean we all do. Listening to podcasts during work is the best
I think these changes are quite interesting but as a player from EU I feel like these changes come a bit too late. I would say OW1 esports had its peak in 2018 in EU. We had a bunch of tournaments we had very strong players in GM and Top 500 ranked matches and so on. In the later years our best players moved to NA for the league and all the Tier 2 & 3 tournaments essentially died because nobody thought that they have a realistic chance to grind their way into Tier 1 if they aren't known already. I personally do not see how this will bring back some of those older players who had to move on with their life but where solid T2 and T3 players which helped fostering the regions strength and at the same time I don't see new faces show up because the lack of tournaments is still an issue.
I’ve been pessimistic since the release of ow2 and been disappointed over and over so if they can make it something great that’s great but my hopes are not high
Can’t be happy abt this for 1 reason NO CHINESE REPRESENTATIVES. On Guxue stream he stated that blizzard employees told the team that servers were coming back but if that does happen it’s not gonna be in time for this. Not only are we missing the biggest fan base the community has but also some of the best players oat can’t compete
Overwatch could be back. At least I know my excuse to not play well all the time is gone as I kept telling people "Why would anyone try? This game doesn't even have a pro league". Intrigued by having a full path to pro that's not held behind a 20 million team buy in and am curious if we're going to have random streams through Faceit showing people diamond and under tournaments.
Summary: Overwatch needs to be a good game first. Has been mediocre for too long. And yes: ~50 million players who left between 2017 and 2019 do agree.

I'm so damn excited for this. I never cared much for OWL but I think it's fundamental to the game's success to have a healthy esports scene
I'm surprised you watch Platchat if you've not been interested in OWL, considering they mostly talk about OWL
@SarimZulfiqarKhan none of the post makes sense. How can you be excited for overwatch esports but you don't care for owl?

I'm so happy they properly expanded to EMEA, it's going to help the level of competition so much.

Ok, but where does this leave my Overwatch League shop???
I know it would be a mistake to keep it. But I’m gonna miss the overwatch league brand name. It had a really nice ring to it.
thank you for timestamps now i can watch this

No mention of the shift towards Saudi Arabia 🫠

I would LOVE to see a ragtag group of underdog no-name overwatch players make it to the top.
Saudi and Florida both sort of did. Not no names, but were never considered amongst the favorites.

it would be funny if platchat did average platchat and they announced The New OW Esports, just after they ended the stream lmao
No one was gonna import anyway besides Defiant
Matt comes in being toxic, representing the 1/5 of the OW community that talks trash in voice and then leaves.
Your podcast is way better than groupup. Groupup has become a tank echochamber
Im not surprised but disappointed no one mentioned the whole Saudi backed faceit thing

Imagine if they did this when people cared about OW. They should worry more about actually balancing the game.
