My theater group threw together this music number for our band director who was retiring. Me being in the band and in the number it was so fun to see our director smile
DID YOU KNOW THAT MEREDITH WILSON PLAYED FLUTE IN THE SOUSA BAND 1920-1922? NOW YOU KNOW THE REAL MUSIC MAN... SOUSA... THE GREATEST SHOWMAN OF HIS DAY!!!
proud to be from river city iowa ❤️ a little about mason city (aka river city) we actually have a parade about Meredith wilson (in this movie harold hill) called bandfest every year! sadly, last years was cancelled
I'm a trombone player and this is the first time I've heard this song. NO SONGS TOPS THIS SONG. I'm a band geek that's very giddy and listening to this. YEEEEEEEEEEEE!
I listen most frequently to the Robert Preston version of this soundtrack, and in that version, the line 'seventy six trombones hit the counterpoint' is sung by the ensemble, and with so many voices singing, it sonud like 'seventy six trombones, I think we've got the point'
we sang a slightly different version of this song in choir for the first concert of my senior year of high school. one of my favorite songs we've ever sang
I remember when i was really little, I did a tap dance routine for this song at this dance school I attended at the time. I regret it so much, but the boy who introduced my group's routine by portraying Harold Hills was really cute, ngl.
I played harold hill at the local theater I go to it was lots of fun i made a deal with the theater director I told the theater director I'll play harold hill only if I get to do 76 trombones if I don't no harold hill the director said I'm sorry nick you don't get to 76 trombones I told the director then I won't play harold hill goodbye the director said wait nick I changed my mind you get to do 76 trombones I was just playing with you I had a good laugh afterwards I told the director I'll get you for that
My school is putting this play on right now, this weekend was opening weekend, and hearing this song in someone else's voice is quite strange to me. I don't even know the song very well because I'm a technician within the play, but still strange to me.
"50 Mounted Cannons in the Battery... Thundering, Thundering louder than before..." Good god, that band could have performed the Finale to the 1812 Overture. Or is a military marching band taking the field from the opposition with literal song and battery.
Finally, a 76 Trombones video I can sing along with! But it doesn't seem to include the last little bit, which is my favorite part. Also, to anyone who complains that the lyrics here say "heart" instead of "harch," I would like to ask, what does harch mean? No, really, I'm asking. But what I really like about this video is the picture of Matthew Broderick here. I don't care what anyone says, the remake was head and shoulders above the original. Remakes often are.
Its the finest virtuos, so's the cream of every famous band. Just thought I'd let you know. Anyway, love these lyric vids, you did a good job =) I am in this play at my dinner theatre and I just love all the songs
Using this because I need to sing part of this song for a band audition and the music teacher stopped copying the lyrics mid sentence so I have to find the rest of the line myself. Lol. Wish me luck.
I didn't know that The Music Man was another team effort of Matthew Broderick and Disney Studios! It must've been an earlier work! I'm more familiar with their team effort in Inspector Gadget, which came out while I was in middle school!
The part heart! Heart! Heart! Is not heart it is harch! Harch!hatch! And how do I know I am in 5th grade and I learned this in music class today and it was also in our music books and we also watched THE MUSIC MAN so ya just saying;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)
The idea of 76 trombones is it is SUPPOSED to sound over the top and ridiculous, he's selling the idea of getting the whole town's youth in a marching band instead of up to no good on the streets; he's also selling band uniforms and doesn't want to leave anyone out. its meant to inspire the parents and encourage the kids that there's room for EVERYONE! of course it's over the top, that's the idea! And the "harch! harch! harch!" is only a rhyming word for march. That's it.
I'm sorry I have to say this, but incorrect use of their there and they're annoy me. It's "all the kids began to march and they're marching still today!"
Sorry im not trying to be one of those people who try to correct everything, but my school district is doing it and in the sheet music it says "to the rhythm of harch harch harch" but you put "to the rthym of heart heart heart".
Me, a trombonist, YOU DON’T NEED THAT MANY GOSH DANG TROMBONES
I remember this song man. I had to sing it in like third grade and now finally in 7th grade I have to play it (this song is legit haunting me)
So? Is it still haunting you to this day?
IS IT STILL HAUNTING YOU THO???

As a trombone and member of a marching band I’m gonna go ahead and let everyone know that you DO NOT NEED FREAKING 76 TROMBONES HOLY CRAP
RICHARD STRAUSS PUT IT BEST... 'NEVER LOOK AT THE TROMBONES. IT ONLY ENCOURAGES THEM"
There can never be enough BRASS
Not with that attitude.
Yes you do! Only trombones!

Me, a flutist: That's a huge band.
Ender-Chan as a drum major I was pointing out all the inaccuracies in it as well. It just shows you how gullible the people in river city are 😂
Ender-Chan I play trumpet

I love that you don’t march with tympani or bassoons.
It shows you that he’s really just pulling stuff out of the air
My pop was singing this today smiling hes 84 still strong. Just had to here it myself 😀

As a freelance captioner, these captions are killing me!! It's a billiard PARLOR
Thank you for posting this it came in handy when I was practicing for my show.
HOLLY COW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS AWESOME!!!!! IT HELPS ME 'CAUSE I AM SINGING IT IN MY TOWN'S MUSIC FESTIVAL!!!!
I am doing this for my spring play and I just got the part of Harold hill. OMG I love this song!
Congrats! It's a fun part
Harold Hill is such a con artist. He's going to be fun to play.

Band and theatre nerds unite over this song
So a marching bassoon huh? Sounds painful.
Especially the fluctuation in heat and moisture? I'm gonna stick with my tuba. Thank you very much
I tried it in high school, and you are spot on.

0:55 - It's not "something against", it's "something akin to". Do you know the word akin?
Also "Harch, harch, harch" and not "Heart, heart, heart". The subtitle writer never marched anywhere in the USA.
We played this with only 2 trombones you dont need 76 freaking trombones
Its the finest virtuos, so's the cream of every famous band. Just thought I'd let you know. Anyway, love these lyric vids, you did a good job =) I am in this play at my dinner theatre and I just love all the songs

We played this marching in Disney
what?...this is goodnight my someone in a different tempo?....MIND BLOWN
I was holding this up to my ear, and I wonder why it sounded muffled, then I noticed my ear lobe was covering the speakers 😂😂😂
this song got stuck in my head
More typos in the lyrics than you could stake a drumstick at.
You're complaining about typos? "Stake a drumstick"?

You have ended your sentence with a preposition.
FAIL!
@@jonp4846 your misplaced pedantry is the sort of nonsense up with which I will not put

Robert Preston still rules
No band starts marching to "Harch, Harch, Harch!" It's typically whistles or "Band! Ten Hut!"
My school is doing this musical and i play Zaneeta Shinn i love dancing to this song. :)
It’s actually, “Harch! Harch! Harch!”
we had to sing this last year in choir :D XD
No mention of cowbells?
This song was always a banger
Just one thing. It's 'to the rhythem of Harch! Harch! Harch!' on the sheet music.
THIS MOVIE IS AWESOME AND I DID WATCH IT!!!
My class watched this in school, every one was humming this song no joke.

He's a good actor, but badly miscast as Harold Hill. Too low key to be a pompous, fast-talking huckster.
lincolnlobster go watch his younger years movies like Ferris Buelers (sp?) Day Off. you'll see differently 😂

I have to play it... But god is it fun
