when this song with THAT scene came in the movie everyone went dead silence you could only hear some people crying, its so beautiful billie and finneas did a great job capturing Barbies feelings in the movie
omg, i felt embarrassed that I was crying, I thought I myself was the only one crying. Glad to know people were crying along with me at the time :)
Same I was close to crying but listening to it here and when I just listen to it when I’m doing something I cry
That was the first time I had heard the song.....tears!!! SO beautiful
FR 😭😭
@@desireszsI was crying, my friend was crying, I heard sniffing behind me so I think they were crying too. It was such a sad but also beautiful scene😫
i cant listen to this song without crying it is honestly heartbreaking and relatable on another level
Omg fr glad I’m not the only one
Same here
Same here. 🥺
Same 😢❤
real
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the fact that she wrote lyrics based on scenes from the movie played for comedy, and managed to make them so poignant just shows how good of a songwriter her and Finneas are. 😭🤚💕
She was shown the whole movie
She actully didnt write for the movie... she worte based off of her life and emotions.... there's a while interview about.... it just fit with the movie.
@@okayfloatstudios3097no..she wasn’t shown the whole movie. The movie wasn’t even finished when they wrote the song. There’s an entire 30 minute interview about how the song came to be and the process of writing it. All you have to do is search “Billie Eilish Zane Lowe Barbie” and watch.
@@andy-leecollings5963I understand that it's about her life but the "something you paid for" just seems to fit very perfectly to the Barbie movie
@@andy-leecollings5963it was the opposite! she wrote intentionally for the movie and afterwards realized she sub conciously also wrote it about herself
she already has an oscar and tbh she definitely clinched another nomination with this one
March 2024 update: :-)
It might won
No time to die was terrible. Both. Song and movie. So they deserve each other
@@jessicaseventhat was one of the best bond movies!
@fashionablechangeling1988 if a song about ken won an oscar for barbie it would be obnoxiously ironic and infuriating lmfao. it was a funny song though
Let's hope it's not only a nomination. She really deserves one for this!
This song doesn’t even have to be relatable it’s done so good it allows u to feel someone else’s pain through words and hella good singing
Absolutely.
And possibly a lot of people's feelings.
Agreed ❤
but it is relatable. It encapsulates humanity as a whole and our search for meaning... It's so emotional because it's a moment of shared empathy, towards everyone else and ourselves.
This song fits so well with Barbie’s theme of the human experience and wondering what your purpose is. Thanks for reacting to this. I almost cried.
Not even though. This is literally the point of the movie. It is about the human experience.
Yes I couldn’t agree more like I cry every time I hear this song cause it’s so relatable to how I feel sometimes
that was essentially the plot to barbie
@@eboniz yes I apologize I never saw the movie and I didn’t realize it had a deep message.
the fact that this song played every time barbie felt and experienced emotions and realized how fucked up the real world is didn’t help at all like I was CRYING
THIS
I loved how the main melody was sprinkled across the length of the movie!!! it really made the close your eyes and feel part much more powerful
I would LOSE it every TIME!!!
Same girl I loose it everytime I hear this song
They strategically placed the melody in EVERY emotional moment and built it up until the moment you actually get to hear the vocals. So freaking smart.
It’s not just Billie..it’s the combined talents of Billie AND her brother Finneas. He’s a wizard. A musical wizard of a producer. When they combine their talents? It’s magic.
in this case no, there is nothing special in the production, only a piano with a simple melody like Imagine by John Lennon/ Oasis and the orchestra part in the production is from other 2 producers not Finneas .. it’s the Billie voice everything. Even if she sings corny lyrics people will still cry the same. Trust me. It’s the way she sings ballads the real magic.
And the vocal producer was Billie
@@Jack2729o 🤦🏻♂️ yes there were other producers as well. Finneas was one of them. The track wasn’t produced by just other people.
That doesn’t change the fact that when Billie and her brother get together and make music? It’s magic. I don’t understand why this has to be debated. We already have an EP and two albums and then another EP that already prove this.
@@akaLids77 I was talking about this song
“IN THIS CASE” .. CAN YOU READ?!?!
@@akaLids77 ok, but this song is more from other producers and her voice .. lyrically is nothing special pretty simple
I remember when I heard the song during THAT scene in the Barbie movie, I was just breathless the whole time, it blew me away with so much emotion.
yes, i didn't cry but my breathing felt funny. it was so powerful seeing her live through the life of every little girl and woman, feeling all of those emotions at once.
The lyric about forgetting how to be happy, something she’s not, but something she could be hit me hard. Wow. That’s a powerful song.
same i was holding it in but then when that part came in i broke down
That last part gets me everytime. The “think I forgot how to be happy, something I’m not but something I could be, what I was made for” tears
I think part of her breathy vocals and the stylization of the production lend this song to truly feel like someone’s mutterings under their breath, inner musings, or the thoughts that you only ever have in your head and you never say out loud. It’s just so heartbreakingly beautiful 💔
It’s as if she’s just singing quietly to herself in a room
Oh my gosh, so true!
I’ve watched so many reactions to this song and Hannah is the first one to actually acknowledge that riff Billie did!!! Billie ate that up! This is why Hannah is the best❤️
Fr!!!
stop ik it’s so under appreciated 😔😔
hannah girl, i just know you'll be a sobbing mess when you hear this song playing during the barbie movie 😭❤
I spontaneously burst into tears when I heard the first few notes in the movie. It was such a great addition to the movie that kept being sprinkled towards the end.
This song in the movie had me in puddles and the line “We mothers stand still so that our daughters can look back and see how far they've come" hit me so hard as a mom of a 4-year-old daughter.
Would love to see a reaction to Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo!
Same ❤
Watched the film lastnight & as a 30 years old man that enjoys football, marvel and things of that nature, I had to hold back tears for this scene and it just put a massive lump in my throat, it’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard in the moment and pictures of kids growing up started flashing, I have a 2 year old who is world! Now the following day I just see Margot Robbie’s emotional face laying bare to all. How did this song fit so well for a Barbie doll & real Human life! Seriously touching. ❤️
Yesss, these outfits are hers of many important moments in her life, like the Oscars, the bellyache video, the Bad guy video, the lovely video, some of her merch too. She has a UA-cam video showing and telling the story of all of them
Yes! That UA-cam video is amazing! There’s another where Finneas explains his process of producing it. Such a talented duo!!
Billie and Finneas are just too good together, this song is excellent
This song makes me bawl every damn time. I’ve been in a period of feeling on the outside looking in, what’s my purpose and just wanting to feel good again, and that’s what this song puts into words for me ❤️
I'm right there with you 🖤 I hope you figure things out
@@michete thank you ❤️
I am a 61 year old man and one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Beyond touching. And yes, Hannah like you, everytime I hear it I get a couple tears. So worth it!! Billie Eilesh and Finneas OConnell are definitely a once in a lifetime and I am hoping we get many more decades of great music and artistry.
so a lil origin story here for the song, Finneas was the one who suggested writing a number for the film, at first Billie didn't want to write a song for the Barbie movie cause she didn't think they could top what they did for "No Time To Die" and then Finneas just sat down and started playing some melodies, and then the famous opening line came to her and then it was full speed ahead.
Yep they wrote the song in 30 minutes
I wasn't expecting the music video to make me sob the way it did, my goodness. Doing her task, despite all the obstacles put in her way. Not allowing herself to get frustrated. Even when she does, she composes herself and moves on. So powerful and sad.
I absolutely love, ‘’don’t tell my boyfriend, that’s not what he’s made for’’ cause men are not prepared to hear everything we go through, and we can’t escape from the stuff we have to go through, girlhood is the most powerful thing
Believe me, girlfriends are not prepared to hear what guys go through, either.
@@leftwingersareweaki think it's equal but honestly girls usually tend to be more openly empathetic and open, i guess? And men aren’t as much which that leads to a whole conversation of why but yk.
I'd say it's a general, sometimes people with partners no matter the gender... just kinda assume that and or/ the isolation of only thinking you feel what you feel and are alone
Her boyfriend, Ken, was made to be happy, something Barbie was made for too. It's got nothing to do with women's problems. Get it? I didn't think so . . .
That line is effing genius.
I genuinely don’t know any women who don’t tear up at this song. She really wrote it for all of us ❤
She wrote it for men too. Enough with the feminism BS.
Feeling lost or not knowing your purpose in life is a universally human experience, not unique to women
Uh oh… you triggered the men. It’s a woman singing about women… deal with it.
@thepoetthatwasi1722 do you even know what feminism is 💀
@@thepoetthatwasi1722 it carries more meaning for women. Get over it? We’ll pray for you
This song should win the best song Oscar. On one level it's so deep and emotional but it's also literally summing up the plot of the movie. How? How can you sum up a movie plot AND make it about so much more?
I agree 100%! I hope she wins an Oscar for this. There's only a couple songs that can bring me to tears, this is one of them. I think it fits the movie so well but also hits home for so many. Absolutely beautiful.
She just won a golden globe for it!!
It just did
I love how the theme of this song is utilized throughout the whole movie. Using the theme this way really adds a layer of depth to the movie.
I cried to this yesterday, the last lines broke me. We were made to be happy. It may be difficult, but we can do it. All of us. We were made for life. And we were made for a happy life.
Great Gerwig loved this song so much that, with Billie's permission, she gave the chords to their score composer so they're incorporated in the score of the film prior to the scene this song appears in
I can't listen to this song without crying. it's so relatable and sooo sad. her vocal is so beautiful and I can feel her emotions. I love her music so much
This song makes me cry within the first few notes. It's the fact that I've always known what I wanted to be when I grew up, and now that it's time for me to make that decision a reality, I'm just so unsure of myself.
I'm going through the same thing🖤 wishing you the best
Jump in. You'll never feel ready. Just go with it. ❤🎉
You got this 👌❤
im in a similar place, we can do this ❤ we will find joy in our jobs and in other things in life :)
I have never related to this more
Billie’s song is incredible, it fits the Barbie movie so much too and it’s so freaking emotional!! I would love to see Hannah’s reaction to Just Ken!
Billie has always been amazing at holding back in order to push her melodies forward and bring the most out of them. It's why she's the one artist me and my grandma both enjoy listening to together
Jesus Christ I was sobbing… the lyrics devastated me. No matter who you are, we all feel this one way or another. All I can say is she’s a master at taking complex relatable human emotions and translating them into songs that seep into your core
You think so??? ❤
I cannot listen to this song without crying, god, not only does billie make everything sound so relatable even if you haven't gone throught it, but if you are going or have gone through something like that, it absolutely pierces you through
I cried at the theatre because of this song.
I believe its the realisation of who we are and knowing all the innocence is lost. While Barbie realises about the real world, we grow up from being as a kid to also one day having this epiphany or rather, a “flip the switch” moment, knowing that we are all grown ups now- and this is why we can all relate to this song.
oh my god PLEASE do a commentary on the Barbie movie! It's still in theatres, but the music I thought was surprisingly good, and especially this Billie Eilish song in context of the movie...truly wrecks your soul in the best and most cathartic way
There is so much to do on this video! First, her voice. Second, the lyrics. Third, the video (which she directed of course) showing her trying to keep moving forward while everything falls down around her. As her life (the doll clothes/storm) hits its peak…she gives up - but with kind of a smile, to do it again tomorrow. Amazingly deep and ethereal.
finally somebody who reacts to songs who understands how important it is NOT to interupt the flow and vibe of a song, especially not the first time u here it
the scene where this song plays has made me cry each time i saw the movie (i’ve seen it 3 times already it’s so good). i get moved very easily by music so i love this song so much.
I wasn't expecting to cry during the barbie movie but God damn did I start silently bawling during this scene.
At an iMax screening months after everybody had seen it twice over, half the audience lost it just the same. And that was early afternoon....
When seeing Hannah cry at the end I just wanted to go through my phone screen to give her a big hug to comfort her 🥺
This song just perfectly encapsulates all the feelings I came away from the Barbie movie with. I went into that movie expecting just a silly little comedy about some dolls I played with as a kid and came out with tears in my eyes and this song brings me right back to that feeling. A beautiful song for an amazing movie
No words, Billie is way before her time! One jd the strongest musicians today! Just love her! I always knew she and her brother would make it huge!!! Such a beautiful song!
I watched this movie twice in theaters with my mom and it hit so hard. And on the second watch this song is baked into so many parts of the movie and it's breathtaking
This makes me sob so hard, I’ve got some stuff going on at the moment so my emotions are kind of near the surface anyway. I went to see the Barbie movie with a friend and had a great time, then this came on during the credits and I was a mess.
billie slays every song she sings, her voice is so nice, also hannah, i love you!!
The song adds the emotional gravity that's needed in the movie. It connects the audience to the movie. It is such an ethereal song that it grabs you sonically and then knocks you out lyrically. It's perfect. Oscar and Grammy on the way.
she is amazingly good, there aren't enough words to describe her and what she does in those lyrics and with her voice! I'm a super super fan ❤
i also teared up watching and listening to this its really so beautiful and such a masterpiece
This song captures the human experience so well. I cry every time I hear it.
I really love this song I love how everyone can connect to this song in some way I really like Billie elish and how almost all her song are so soft and quiet and not loud like other songs
Seeing Hannah getting emotional by songs is just so meaningful to me, it just shows how connected she is to music, Hannah deserves the world and we really need more people like her❤️
I tell you....I'm going through something so incredibly hard in my life...a life change I never thought I'd ever have to face and my goodness this song hits me so hard. I can't not cry when I hear it. I love Billie and the emotion behind this song is just woo💔
Billie is killing me with this song. I can barely get through it without becoming a weepy mess.
Who hasn’t had a moment where they questioned their own meaning or purpose of existence. We all long to be made for something of purpose. It’s that struggle to find the purpose that can crush u. Billie never seizes to blow me away ❤
I think this song also does a wonderful job of summing up those feelings of worthlessness and uncertainty about being a teenager. I don’t know what I want to do, there’s so much I want to do but in the end, I don’t know if I’m doing a lot of it for the sake of other people or myself. I’m so insecure I hide so much of who I am from my friends (“Looked so alive, turns out I’m not real”), it’s like the real me isn’t real to them because I’m showing a completely different person to them, and it’s my fault because I’m the one hiding it. I don’t know what my talents are, and I’m uncertain about my future. Whenever I’m listening to this in order to relate it to myself, I substitute the line “don’t tell my boyfriend” with “don’t tell all my friends”. It suddenly becomes 100x more heart wrenching because I want to get out how I’m feeling so badly, yet I don’t want anyone around me to worry or feel stressed because of me.
The lines that probably hit the most are “When did it end? All the enjoyment. I’m sad again, don’t tell my boyfriend”. I already explained the last one above, and the lines that precede it just make it even more meaningful. It’s like that nostalgia I have for when I was younger and not so insecure and afraid. I don’t know whether this is all just a phase or something more, but what I do know is that someday I’ll find who I am. Whether it’s tomorrow or years ahead, someday. And I still have hope, cause at the same time I love being a teenager. Being better at things I previously was absolute shit at before, being more self aware of my mistakes and being able to correct them, etc. It’s a love hate relationship. And to anyone out there feeling the same way, regardless of your age, background, color, gender or whatever (S.L.U.T reference teehee), I hope you’ll find something to continue living for. And I’m so glad to be alive in a time where Billie exists, and much more. Without music, I’d probably be dead by now. ❤
That feeling never goes away, it just changes shape. We're all just trying to figure out what we're made for, from the day we're made to the day we move on to whatevers next.
@@wwaxworkfor real. I was coming here to say that as an almost 30-year-old, I still feel this. My mom watched the movie with me and she still feels this. It does change shape, and it ebbs and flows, but I think it's probably one of the few constants of the human experience.
46. Same
Billie and her brother are so talented. This song works on so many levels. Whether your a living doll or a human!
There is a video with her and Finneas about how they made the song. The complexity and time it took is crazy. Highly recommend watching it
Yes! Great video! Also watch the one where Billie describes the tiny clothes in the music video.
I saw that too it was really cool. A lot of layers to this song from both Billie and Phineas. They are great.
It’s so good and when the scene comes up with it in the movie it’s so fitting and it makes me cry every time I see the scene
this song hits so hard and it came during a very very low point for me so when I listen to it it really feels like it was made for me it’s so accurate I always cry 😭
Now I wanna cry... my tears are just hanging on the edge of my eye lining...just when her things or I say her dreams are being blown so hard and she's trying to pick up things as much as she can..
The harmonies are so intricate too. She’s awesome
Can’t even with this song- goosebumps and tears. Seen the movie 3 times and the scene the song is for is amazing. This song is so deep💔
This song is so gorgeous! So glad you’re reacting to Billie💖
This is the most beautiful and heart breaking song I've heard in a very long time. And Billie Eilish is an incredible singer. As you pointed out, she knows when less is more. And, at 73, I'm not even the intended audience for Billie or this song. But man, she just has such superb control of her instrument! I bow before her!
One of my favorite songs she’s put out
Billie is such a beautiful person and her music is so beautiful, just a bunch of beautifulness!
i hiiiiighly recommend listening to the recent upload to her youtube where she sang this song at lolapolooza, it was such a stunning vocal performance, and the video itself is SO touching, everyone enjoying the music for what it is and relating was just SO incredibly human. it brought me to tears SO fast, i just admire billie so much as well, it was such a performance
So hauntingly good, truly amazing vocal and the simple piano makes it all the better. This 53 year old Father of two girls loves it. I’m calling it now, this song will win best song for the Oscar.
As a 100% disabled combat veteran, like so many people, I relate to this piece. Her music gives a voice to the depths of our human experience. Billie talks to us and her brother is a musical genius.
At everywhere around the world, we all cry and think about the meaning of life when seeing the scene in movie with this beautiful song. We are human and emotionally the same. Thank you Barbie, thank you Billie!
You for sure need to make a video about the Barbie Movie!! It's incredible!!!
THAT scene had everyone collective sobbing. Me included.
When this song played in the movie, I was completely overwhelmed. I was instantly a hysterical mess, sitting next to a complete stranger. I tried to hold my breath to stop the tears, but I think I was shaking the seat. All I could think is "We're all Barbie. Barbie is me. Barbie is all of us."
Not me totally giggling at the Dumbledore sock on the mic when I realize what it is during a time when Hannah is being super serious. This is why we're "friends" even though you have no clue who I am. 💗💗😁😁
still LOVING that Dumbledore sock on the mic❤️❤️
re the simplicity of the song, it's definitely what the scene in the movie called for. I for sure would love to see you react to the whole movie, I think you're going to enjoy it a lot
Its gorgeous but once youve seen the film and know where it is its even more amazing to listen to. It's basically about what its like to be human, good and bad and its amazing
Every once in a while a song just hits the soul and this is one of them ❤
Your reaction is so pure. I've had same when i listened to it all the times. I was teary eyed while your were listening to it and talking about.
I love how understated her vocals are and only Billie can sing like that. She's a superstar!🥰
Hannah, I don’t know you but your videos give me some indescribable thing that makes me the version of myself I strive to be. You are who the internet was made for. God bless you.
You made me cry more than I usually do listening to this 😢 I have severe depression and this song perfectly describes how I feel. And your reaction is so pure 🥺
Yessss react to the movie cause when she says "dont tell my boyfriend, thats not what he is made for" just amazing
7:21 Billie and Finneas just did a Vanity Fair interview and Billie kept saying how hard this song was to sing… No disrespect to Hannah here at all - I just think it’s so incredible that even to an ear as well trained as Hannah’s, Billie just makes this stuff look and sound SO easy for her!! 🔥
Ha, I just commented the same thing without seeing your comment. Her explaining it in that interview makes you realise that that effortless vibe takes a lot of work and talent
I've been listening to this song all day on repeat. I've just been feeling very depressed lately and this just hit so many spots for me.. I ended up crying for like an hour straight while listening to it.
Hannah, when you commented about how strongly that you feel music strongly, I could not relate more and made me tear up knowing that someone else that is out there like me. Thank you for sharing that about yourself.
Loved your reaction! I saw a video of her singing the track live and it truly was stunning. I think some people confuse singing lightly as she does as lacking power, but it takes so much control to sustain those notes and stay on key. She and her brother Finneas are musical geniuses in my opinion.
^_^
This song has brought me to tears every time I hear it, especially because I’ve been struggling a lot lately with my life purpose and depression and some past traumas that I’ve been through. Billie did a great job
I'm not sure why this song gets to me. I haven't watched the movie, I haven't heard it outside the couple reactions I've seen about it, I haven't really wondered about what I was made for...
It just shows she knows how to make you feel what she wants through her sheer talent.
When you watch the movie you’ll bawl! Seriously, I don’t usually cry but I found myself tearing up at the movie
There’s something SO beautiful about this song. I can’t listen to it without crying. Maybe it’s the lyrics, maybe the way I relate to it but a lot of it is her voice. I’m not a huge billie fan BUT she absolutely NAILED this!
Loved your heartfelt reaction. This song gets to me like "The 30th" did. I don't know if you've seen Billie's take on "Fever" she did for a Peggy Lee tribute buy I think you would love it. I think Billie's voice was made for jazz and she killed that song.
Oh yes! The 30th emotionally destroyed me and i loved her performance of fever and also is that all there is at the tribut
Everything about this song, from the breathiness to the subject matter, gets me right in the heart every time.
I love billie so much for this song
Hannah, knowing a bit of your story, I was crying along with you. Being a woman, dealing with mental health, this song hits hard with such simplicity. "When did it end, all the enjoyment?" and "Think I forgot how to be happy" UGH cuts deep.
hannah for vocal reactions, you should start watching the videos twice! like watch it all the way through once and then watch it again to pause at certain parts you wanna talk about
Exactly my reaction to this song. I watched it 10x in a row and ugly cried. She truly is one of the most important artists of the century. Her music is on another level.
this song was absolutely beautiful and fits so seamlessly with the scene in the barbie movie 🫶🏻
I cried at the theatre. The scene is so connected to the song. Billie Eilish is so good here
you are adorable!
i cried during my first listen too
such a beautiful song
