Hearing about Kris , helps in the grieving process. Memories and relating to people ie stars like Kris Kristofferson , Vince Gill makes for feel grounded. Thank you.
Heard him at Barts' theater in Barcelona some 9-10 years ago I think. I was a lonesome fan here in Europe where country music does not exist. Or so I thought.. I brought my guitar player to the gig and the theater was packed. I thougt the ole man would have brought a band but he played solo. For almost an hour and a half you could hear a nail drop, the presence and delivery of this man singing his poetry was just amazing. The crowd was mesmerized, the only sounds heard between songs besides the applause and cheers was the occasional muffled "did he write this song too?". RIP Kris!!
Great interview! Having watched all these wonderful singers and performers over the years, I feel so lucky and blessed to have many years to experience the joy of all the music these men & women have given us throughout my life. And Kris Kristofferson was a definite standout on that stage!
That’s right Johnny didn’t know Kris when Kris landed in his yard. That is amazing how good of a writer Kris was with is raspy voice but every song of his told such an unheard story that kept us intrigued that like Vince said who cares. But a true Kristofferson song has to be sung by Kris.
Vince hit it one the head right there.. Kris wasn't a great singer... but he was great as a songwriter, a person a friend. You really just enjoyed his singing too.
Kris did not fly in Vietnam. This doesn't take anything away from him. He did serve and flew helicopters. His songwriting is beyond words. I just covered Help Me Make It Through the night on my you tube site. I personally have always liked Kris's voice. No one does Why Me Lord better. R.I.P. Kris Kristofferson. Burlington Bill busking on the road and here on you tube.
And Johnny or June were not home the day he landed the helicopter and he gave the demo of a song that was never cut by anybody to the gate keeper. Still a great story.
@@Soundhypno I have heard so many different versions of this story. Like you said great story. I did a video on my site Burlington Bill and I tell stories before I cover a song sometimes. I almost always add that some of my stories are even true! Have a beautiful day.
All pop music follows the same formula and patterns. It's impossible to write a song that doesn't sound similar to something that's already been done. Most people don't realize this. If you turn on the radio and really listen to the music you will realize all the songs sound the same
I am a huge fan of Kris....have been my whole life. However, he did land a helicopter in Cash's yard to bring him a tape. John was not home. And they did know each other as Kristofferson was a janitor at the recording studio where Cash recorded and gave him dozens of songs. Kris has personally said it never happened the way Cash told it, but it was such a great story and it was, after all, Johnny Cash...so he just let it go. Still, one hell of a move on Kris's part. His songwriting was incredible...he was one of those few writers that could tell a whole story that everyone could related to, in one sentence...just bring you to your knees. "Loving her was easier than anything I'll ever do again"...wow! OR just listen to any one of his songs...they all have lines like that. One of the only good things about the progress made in electronics is we will have his music and videos forever to go an listen to and watch....like Prine, Guy Clark, Merle, Jones...the list goes on. The sad part is I don't think we will ever see the likes of them again.
@@robertparsons5295 Over the years in interviews, Kristofferson said with all respect to Cash, while he did land a helicopter at Cash’s house, the Man in Black wasn’t even home at the time, the demo tape was a song that no one ever actually cut and he certainly couldn’t fly a helicopter holding a beer.
@@Upsidedownguitar63 I have never heard a version of the story that had KK drinking a beer while flying the helicopter. I have heard a couple that had him landing in the back yard and coming out with a 6 pack of cans in one hand, the tape of SMCD in the other.

Nice from Vince, as was his talk about Arnold Palmer. BUT, Johnny knew Kris when he was a janitor at the recording studio. Still...nice remembrance from Vince.
I saw Amy when she was a young Christian singer. She looks great. At the time, I thought, “It must be tough to be a young Christian singer.” At the time, there was controversy for a Christian to sing, “secular” songs and then all the temptations of fame and such. Then, she had that bad marriage. I am glad that she met Vince, it really worked out.
He did serve and flew helicopters in the Army. He met Johnny Cash previously working as a janitor at Columbia Records recording studio, he did land on his lawn to pitch him the song. ua-cam.com/video/PxxmLddmMRk/v-deo.htmlsi=b54xxi0OKp_TnUYy

Condemning that bald headed brave little girl

And she's never been partial to shackles or chains
She's too old for breaking and too young to tame
It's askin' for trouble to stick out your neck
In terms of a target a big silhouette
But some candles flicker and some candles fade
And some burn as true as my sister Sinead
