Regarding why the dali didn't move. The AP just had a brief interview with the lead person from the army corps of engineers. He answered a question by saying they had recently pumped 10,000 tons of ballast into the bow of the Dali specifically to keep it from floating. The demolition crew setting off the charges was on board the DALI with the crew, which was ready to control the vessel in the event that it had refloated.

Thanks for the info on the ballasting. I wondered why bow did not begin to rise after the bridge railing were blasted and released from the forward deck area.
THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE TIME &ALL THE VEDIO. I JUST CAME ACROSS I 95 U CAN SEE IT CLEAR AS DAY. IT'S A BLESSING THAT THE BRIDGE WASN'T LOADED DOWN WITH TRAFFIC. I CROSS THAT BRIDGE TWICE.
Pure Awesome Coverage Capt. Andy! Unfortunately I missed the actual live but Thankfully You recorded it and shared this event with us. Your coverage has been second to none! Thank you , be well and Stay Safe !
Hey Captain Andy & ALL Crew that helped with this video & it's short comings with the video interruptions !! WOW !!!! What a show to watch for sure !! Wouldn't have missed it for the World !! 🙂🙃😉🤠😎😮👍👍👍👍👍
This was a marathon warch, but we'll worth it. Thank 4 streaming it live. I, as a South African, was following this saga avidly. There is still a lot of work 2 do, but, all I can say, is WÉLL DONE!!!❤
Thank you heaps for the coverage, great view and clarity with the camera equipment you have available, many thanks, and great commentary too! Take care! 👍😉❤️
Wow I had no idea Sal was DOC Sal! He is AMAZING, I have learned so much from Sal! I'm hear because Sal recommended your channel, looks great so far!!! God Bless!

Hey! This worked out fine for me in Ohio! I had to take a nap at 5pm EST, I thought I was going to miss the action, BUT I didn't! My husband had BBQ'd chicken wings when I was sleeping, he did real good, now I can sit and watch the action thanks to YOU! BOOM!
Thanks for your streaming and coverage! It was nice to come home and be able to see it! I look forward to your posts and thank you tremendously for your work.
this was the best angle and with sound. Very cool. Thanks for sharing. The ship did not raise as the deck still has the cement columns from the bridge sitting in the bow.
Thank you sir for all you do as someone whos 15-20 minutes away from the site I thank you I only know of one spot around it I can go to check it out and to be honest I would rather watch your stream again thank you. Enjoy being home your very well appreciated I will be donating
I understand they would remove the remaining bridge structure either right before they return to port or immediately after. By the way, thank you for the coverage. It was well appreciated.
Thank you for this video. I think you're correct that the bow didn't shift. If you line up the top of the big solar panel next to the pylon with the hull of the ship there doesn't seem like any change in the ship's attitude. Between all that junk to be cleared and suck of the muck where the ship is stuck I guess that's to be expected.
Those shaped charge cutting explosives certainly did the job, with almost surgical precision. They cut through thick steel like a hot knife through butter. A major step forward toward moving the Dali and the full reopening of the port. Are they planing to remove the road deck before they try to move the Dali, it must still be a huge weight across that bow section.
its pretty staggering to think all that weight didn't cut the front of the Dali off altogether - i guess the containers acted much like a cushion absorbing the impact, but then you have to also consider the large chunk of concrete laid across the bow even with all that weight, i doubt the Dali will rise that much if at all, she is resting nose down in the mud i understand, and with that mass of concrete on board, i reckon she will stay nose down until she can be moved i kept my curser registered on the Dali during the demo, she didn't even flinch, still a mass of weight to shift, but now i wonder if they will need to remove the concrete remains of the pier, she could be unstable with that chunk still onboard great coverage Captain Andy
I just heard that the reason the steel is still standing on the deck is because there are broken containers at the base with flammable material in them. That is probably why I saw an arial shot shortly after the boom with firemen on the deck.
A great view of the explosion from the opposite side can be seen on the Reuters youtube. The other views are from upwind of the Dali. So the smoke blows away from camera. This view the smoke appears to blow towards the camera or at least that general direction.
Thank you for choosing my home to do your streaming I am glad me and my family got to know you you’re a blessing and I want to thank everyone and you who has contributed to helping us moving is going to be hard and having to move not by choice is difficult the owner wants to evict us because he wants to go section 8 now I have 60 days to find somewhere to go and I don’t know what to do great live feed your streams are a masterpiece ❤❤❤❤❤❤ I also apologize for the dogs and the background noise 😢😢😢😢
re: "Did the Dali rise up?" IMHO, slightly. Before the demolition, the upper right-hand corner of the solar panel shows no blue hull above it; it is exactly in line with the gunnel upper edge. After the charges, there is a slim line of dark blue hull visible above that corner of the solar panel array. At this distance, is that about 1 or 2 feet of rise?
It DOES rise slightly. Rmbr half a millimetre on your screen is a meter on the Dali. I used the skyline of the containers against a black dot on the pole/mast in front of the ship. Its darker down at the solar panel and the edge of the gunnel is a bit blurry. The Dali is still sucked under by the mud, it will unstick itself in an hour or two.
If you wind the video back to just before the blast and look at the small crane arm just left of the solar panels you see debris hanging off the ship and after the smoke clears that debris is about 6 ft higher above the crane arm.
He also said that the current plan is to leave the roadbed on the DALI until it is docked back in the shipyard and remove it there, but that could possibly change after they do all their inspections
WJZ has the best copter video of the demolition today, they were upwind of the bridge, not obscured by the smoke. Meanwhile, WUSA copter is still on scene, people boarding the DALI and now up on the bow inspecting the results
It's a plan undoubtedly concurred by the salvage master; USCG; port of Baltimore, MD; MD dept of Trans; etc. With controlled explosions, the ultimate goal of accurately displacing material. You know Sal, in the end, regardless of all the "mistake proofing" everyone hopes for the best and prays for the rest"😮

The most of the weight, bridge concrete deck and traffic barriers, are still on the ship. The pieces which flew off were light steel members.

Yes it's all good
When you look at the top of the containers against the transmission tower, there was no discernible rise after the demolition.
Sounds great
well done sir

Good to Northern Ontario
Just checked PBS coverage showing STARBOARD side. Bow never moved
It didn’t appear to have raised the bow of the ship any. Hopefully they can get it unstuck from the mud and moved.

Can actually see the Dali rise up slightly after the blast.
Using a mark on the pole in front of the ship against the containers on the ship.
Funny, I couldn't see any difference, scrubbing the video to check it.
@@charlestoast4051 Its very slight, use the skyline of the containers against a black dot on the pole in front of the ship.
Good observation! It looks like, maybe, a 2 foot movement.
