- There's no dearth of automatic options to choose from anymore. Want two pedal convenience on a budget? There's the iMT and AMT to choose from. Conventional automatics like the CVT, Torque Converter and DCT bring with them a higher degree of sophistication and smoothness, for a higher asking price, of course. Question is, which automatic makes the most sense for you?

Even after a yr this will still be "The best transmission comparison video on the internet". Thanks guys for this great video. Very informative and will definitely help decision making easier.🙌
Thank you. Keep supporting!!
Even after 2 years, it's the best video on automatics. I used this video to explain the difference to my father. 🙂🙂
I searched and saw 4-5 videos to understand different transmission, but none could make me understand. This video is so detailed that I can now explain to others as well. Very well explained. Keep up the good work. Kudos!
Same with me.
Being a mechanical engineer, I love to see the experiences knowing the in-depth working technologies behind all the above transmission mechanisms.

I have Rapid MT which is super smooth and high performance experience. Imagine, with Torque Converter the drive experience would be much better. Thank you so much for your unbiased professional review.
Bumper to bumper traffic needs cvt and tork converter . In heavy city traffic don't use dct car. But if you drive more on highways then definitely choose DCT. To maintain cvt and torc converter is cheaper than DCT.
30k in 3 years Delhi traffic , just put In NEUTRAL if u r stopping for more than 20 sec and let the car roll in bumper to bumper traffic don't give any acceleration input. DCT is super quick with no jerk and super fun to drive
I hope this kind of format continues throughout . Happy to see Tushar and Arun Sir back together😊😍
@Arun Shenoy Needless sir ji!!
The reviews should be always like this... You prove your point and let people decide by their choice. Great video
You guys are awesome. Loved the entire review. Huge respect!
Thank you and keep supporting..!!
I will prefer "IMT" & "CVT". Both are easy to maintain..also drives well.
Very well explained,
I would prefer IMT as It gives some amount of control on immediate acceleration needs. Also not too expensive.
Very well explained👏👏👏. Even a layman would understand. I would definitely go with IMT as it relieves me from the hassle of clutch-brake-accelerate in heavy traffic, gives me control over gears, costs less and is easy to maintain...
Great comparison, very informative....especially for ppl like us who are used to MTs. I have driven an AMT (Celerio) and hated the jerks it gives. Also driven a TC (Harrier). Yet to drive a CVT or a DSG.
Have read about many DSG issues (in Vento TDI) like Mechatronic failure and they are quite expensive to repair. CVT may not be my type as an enthusiast, so TC maybe my type!
Brothers, mujhe sabhi k sabhi transmission k bare mein pta tha, lekin fir b aapki iss video ne mujhe car chunne mein help kardi. Torque convertor le rha hu brothers.
I will choose iMT out of all as gear shift is very smooth in kia/hyundai. You also don't struggle with clutch in traffic as it is clutch less. it is also pocket friendly therefore it just best in all respects..
Bhai clutch to kisi automatic me nhi hota!😂
Aur bhai imt introduce hua tha to cater to those customers jinko manual ki feel chahiye thi. But in my opinion, imt can also not provide that manual feel, coz main thing in manual is clutch!! If u have removed clutch, then how can it provide that manual feel!!
@@vaasuagrawal4062 imt best option
@@amalnamirvilla8838 economically it may be. But overall, my choice would be either DCT or Torque Convertor.

Fascinating theme, concept and presentation. You two are amazing in presentation.
I was just thinking of understanding more about DCT, AMT NT ...and this video uploaded.

Already bought a Rapid TSI AT. It's pretty good.
What is it's fuel efficiency bro? Thank you
Mileage bro
Well, now you have Lamborghini's mileage within the city in bumper to bumper traffic.
@@avinash.h2 8-10kmpl
Congrats man
I am using Slavia 1.0 TSI Torque Converter, the gear shifts are so smooth that I never bothered about checking the gear number while driving, plus paddle shifter works extremely well, when needed to accelerate to overtake a vehicle. Seriously, no jerks!
I love this channel.....they always make exclusive contents.
Yess
You are right bro
Exclusive.. This is one of the most common videos. Its so common that even GeekyRanjit has also made a video.
This video gave me all the answers I was looking for. Simply fantastic!
We're glad it was helpful! Thaks for watching. :)
Been driving honda cvt since 2010 and love it, like you mentioned, have to be a smooth driver n not aggressive to fully maximise the efficiency n driving satisfaction.
do u see any performance lag of cvt transmission on hill roads.. does it struggle to climb steep hills ? I am planning to buy elevate cvt , I live in Himachal and need to know if automatic can work in hills
Best video on different types of transmissions on UA-cam .. covers everything that i wanted to know.. Great work.. keep it coming guys..
Thank you for watching the video. Keep supporting!!
DCT reliability is a issue.. Ford had once introduced DCT in a hot country like India.. Within 6 months they recalled all of them... Otherwise DCT is the best.
Torque converter will give less mileage as they tend to shift gear at a higher RPM.. Give paddle shifters, issues will be resolved..
CVT is very good...With paddle shifter it is the best. .Not best in pickup due to rubberband effect..
AMT is jerky so not that comfortable..
For the people who are enthusiast but are lazy for them iMT is suited...
But for me MT is always the best...
Yup man.... driving a manual feels more natural, missing out on clutch feels weird... it’s like driving a Scooty
Bhut achhe se banaya hai video in all aspects be it explanation, sound quality, camera angles etc. Very good job CarDekho.
Thanks a ton
I drive Aspire DCT and I have never found any problems on stop-n-go traffic in city. It’s smooth and on highways it’s really fun to drive. Overtaking is a breeze.
hows the performance in mountains?
You nailed the explanation. Great efforts guys.
Cardekho always has such unique content. Kudos!!
Thank you for your appreciation. Your appreciation is like music to our ears. We just got re-energized to provide an even better experience to you.
Absolutely fantastic evolution , I have driven AMT duster for 2 years , verna 1.6 diesel with converter , and Venue DCT ( of a friend ) I have driven
which is better cvt or torque converter
Thanks Cardekho for such a detailed comparison.. Loved it👌🏻
Low cost - imt
Allrounder for ibdia - TC
MT - for toofani Suvs
Best a real solution video thanks
Torque converter 😍😍
2023 February
Test drove Kiger CVT - good for relaxed rides. Can feel the headnod heavily on slightly pushing hard the accelerator. High rubber band effect on pushing the pedal.
Test drove Venue DCT - Smooth. Doesn't feel the gear changes while at slow speeds or pushing slightly hard.
Didn't test drive Fronx TC - Still booked TC Fronx expecting balance of performance, leisure drives and little bit of extra mileage over Dct.

This is the best explanation over the internet to understand all types of currently offered transmissions. Great work. Now I am able to make a decision to choose right transmission for my requirement. Thank you so much.
The final verdict matches my new car preference. The tossup was between Kia Carens DCT or Maruti Suzuki XL6 Torque Converter. I will most likely go for the XL6, as need to drive in city start stop traffic on narrow arterial roads, often at speeds of 0-10 kmph.
Isse jyada behtar video koi youtubers sayad hi bana payega lajawab hain aapke har jawab
My Skoda rapid AT IS best value for mileage n performance, shifts like smooth as DSG n have long life than Dsg, city 10kmph , highway 14.6 kmph , it's an enthusiastic car go for it if u need performance put in sports u can even beat manual if u drive properly
I just booked Grand vitara Zeta plus with E-CVT, after watching this video i am relieved that i made the right decision with the transmission for my driving.
I will go with Torque Converter - planning to go for a Skoda Rapid rIder plus / Urban criuser Auto.
Is At and toreque convertor same ? Sir
@@Don-mf4kq no
@@Don-mf4kq Yes it is bro!
Go for an Indian Car Company
Skoda rapid service cost of yearly once Rs12,000 plus and Toyota Yaris CVT is Rs 4,500
Using a Turbo petrol DCT Venue since 6 yrs tye gear shifts are very smooth on highways and the pickup is also good but only downside is when sometimes in traffic after like 10-15 mins it starts giving jerks
I was unsure about S-Cross Torque Converter. Thanks. This gives a lot of clarity

Hi, am planning for the same car. May i know the top speed which you have reached in Seltos Diesel AT and how about the performance in hills with five passengers. Please revert as soon as possible.
@@karthikbalan9279 Max speed I've touched is 130 kmph and the car was quite stable. Haven't been much to mountains though but have been little bit, the car is quite wonderful and infact was fun to drive on swirling roads on sports mode.
If you are a driving enthusiast, GTX AT is the best you can buy at this price point.

Very good review. Unlike most other channels.
I will always go with DSG. I have VW AMEO DSG. It's a fun to drive.
I was planning to buy one however had to drop the plan after hearing the news of discontinuation.
Like they mentioned, does it have heating issue in the traffic?
I am first time car buyer I will be preferring iMT as it gives me the spots feel of changing gares and hassle free traffic control
Very nicely made video; starting from the concept of comparing cars from different segments, not using a lot of technical data and still delivering the points. Kudos!
Have booked amt swift after watching your review
You 2 are my favorite😍
I have driven , torque converter, dct , CVT and AMT. I loved torque and dct. But to be Frank i was surprised with the smoothness on Hyundai nios AMT, it's quite good. But yes for overtaking u have to be well prepared
Very good explanation! I would prefer IMT as it gives good control over gear shifting and automatic driving experience in city conditon. Bye bye knee pain :-)
Verywell explained. You guys are superb . No other video explains it well than you. Hats off.
I am driving Toyota Yaris CVT since October 2018, seamless driving comfort. Overall milegue in city around 11 km to 15 kmpl and highway around 17km to 20 km.
Yarris is a very underrated car. Best value under 11 lakhs are Yarris j cvt and Nexon XMA
My Suzuki Access two wheeler uses CVT, but it has got no rubber band effects. Why in cars, this notorious rubber band effect is present and is so pronounced.
Thanks for a fantastic explanation of all auto gear boxes. Really useful.
I am sorry to ask this silly question, but as a typical Indian this question came to my mind is that can we do "dhaaka start" an IMT transmission cars.

A more simplified conclusion
AMT - Fuel Efficient AT
CVT - City Drive Petrol Engines
TC - Diesel Engines
DCT - For enthusiast who don't want give up on Manuals at all
iMT- don't fool around it's not an automatic.
Imt - only because it is sponsored by Koreans
I like ur description of IMT👍😆😆

Which car you bought and how is your experience so far?
I think this is the best explanation I have seen on automatic transmissions , but please explain further what happens to CVT/DCT/TC when coupled with turbo engine. Does CVT turbo engines give that extra performance edge that we are missing?

I own an i20 cvt and if given choice I would definitely go with an imt (simply because it has best of both world characteristic)
This is only channel and portal on which can rely.
i like CVT so much very smooth
Cvt - for smooth driving but loses out on performance
Dct - the sportiness performance but has heating and little more maintainence issue
Dsg - fastest shifting and best performing but has breakage issues and high maintainence
Torque converter - a blend of smooth drive and decent performance
Amt - for the budget buyers , but is very jerky to use
Imt - command of gears are in your hand with no clutch
My favorite Manual 👍
yeahhhhhhhhhhh, we want videos like this.
I want feel of shifting gear.. so I would prefer IMT
