  • It's been a hot, miserable day. This was not how I planned to spend my free time! But, there's nothing to do but keep plodding along and try to make the best of it. At least we had the emergency hand pump on hand (still in the unopened box). I highly recommend hand pumps for backup for anyone who has a well.

Hopefully it's a worn pump switch or control box/condensor issue. A dry rope with a weight on the end works in a pinch to check the staic level. Your neighbors to the north have water, odds are your well isn't dry. If you have a tester, check to make sure you're getting power on the load side of the pump switch. Good luck!

Once I got the cap off the wellhead I was able to shine a light down and see water, so that was a big relief. I now have our hand pump installed and can at least fill up water jugs here. That's much better than having to go get water somewhere else.
A friend did some checking and thinks it likely is the controller, not the pump itself. Hopefully today I'll be able to get a definitive answer and get it fixed, or at least repairs underway.

@@republicjim120 If it's a 3 wire pump the capacitor is in the control box and may be the culprit. It wouldn't hurt to replace the entire control box considering it's 20 years old, a new one at Fogle's is around $80. I'll be going by your place later today at 6:00, if you need a hand lemme know and I'll bring the required tools.

@@danlutjemeier4183 It's working!! Fogle's didn't have the capacitor for our old controller, so I did end up replacing the whole control box. As soon as I turned on the breaker I heard water in the line. What a relief!
Thank you for the advice and for your kind offer to help.
