This is a fairly simplistic overview of a few types of lighters for those just starting out in outdoor skills, prepping, etc. and who are deciding what gear to include in their pack or EDC. As stated, there are many other options which I do not cover in this video (maybe in a follow-up video someday). There are also "windproof" versions of butane lighters and torches, but I have not used them, so I cannot speak to their effectiveness. Many newer plasma lighters now offer USB-C charging, and some have extendable, flexible necks, which would likely be a fantastic option. Again, I have not used them, so cannot conclusively comment on them.
NOTE: always have more than one method of fire-starting on hand! Mechanical items can fail without warning, gear can be damaged or lost, and other unpredictable issues can arise at any time in an emergency. Learn to use - and regularly carry - a couple of different sources of fire. For those just starting out, I recommend at least one of these lighters as well as some quality waterproof matches. Later, master a ferro rod and possibly more primitive methods (flint and steel, friction fire variants, etc.).
