The CarGuys visit specialist racing dealership Duncan Hamilton to view and test drive an orange Rocket - 1 of just 46 in the world.
It’s so impressive that a deal is immediately struck, and within days, the Rocket is in The CarGuys garage and ready to be taken out for a damned good thrashing!

This concept with modern parts, and with a modern Crossplane crank r1 engine would be a MONSTER of a track car. They sound so much better, and make 190whp easily with just a cheap exhaust, flash tune, and air filter swap
This rocket and an Ariel atom plus a stig helmet = heaven. Several Jerry cans and never in that back seat be great 👍

I know I’m 3years late, but the second generation with the higher state of tune had 174bhp IIRC :) but I wish someone remade a thing like that with a modern 230+BHP super bike engine indeed.
Just watched the Gordon Murray garage video from Top Gear. Like you, I will remember when the Rocket came out. Lovely to see it again. Hope you still have it! I have a two similar machines; 190HP on 190Kg and 145HP on 160Kg - alas, both motorcycles. I have been looking at the GT3 RS but this might actually be much more up my street,

A naive question, perhaps, but does it have some plastic foil or fabric cover? I mean, not for driving, but for situation in parking, if left open under a rain, wouldn't it turn into a plastic bathtub?

TheCarGuys.TV I still love this car! I also went to the launch day at Chobham (if I remember correctly). Mental rides in the back with pro racing drivers and slalom competition. Some poor chap got run over by one!

Nice video guys, Damian pleased to see you got yourself a Rocket in the end. I knew the previous owner of this car he was Dutch and it spent a few years in Holland, hence why it is now orange I think, also prior to that it was covered in 'West' Mclaren type livery by another owner iirc. I am still in touch with my old car too, sold to a friend, wish I still had it though ! Enjoy.
Hi Charlie - fantastic to think you found this video, given your history with these cars. I hope I did a good job of showing off the Rocket, you're right - you hardly see anything on them. It's just me and Jay Leno! I guess I had to get one at some point, but it took 2 years after seeing yours for me to finally take the plunge. I have to say I do prefer the blue and white livery on yours, and I hope the new owner is using it as much as possible.
Ha Yes you did a lot better than my efforts with my Gopro a few years ago ! Not sure about the power to weight ratio compared to 918 Spyder ? You mentioned tyres easy to lock up, when you eventually replace those maybe try a set of Avon CR28 tarmac spec rally tyres, they were the best I used, a bit softer and easier to get heat into because it's so light normal tyres never get warm, also keep tyre pressures low 14 psi front and 18 rear, tyres tend to go hard before you get close to wearing them out. Not sure if you using clutch to go up through the gears but you don't always need to, if you reving it hard, small lift on throttle and bang the next gear in and it's very quick, change the oil every year or max 3,000 miles is a must to keep engine and gearbox in good health, otherwise annual nut and bolt check, particularly on the rear engine transaxle mounts etc. and that's all they really need. Oh and I ran out of petrol several times ;). Look forward to the updates.

I'd never try to drive or ride this witought a helmet on, at least old school pilot's leather helmet with glasses. And it makes me smile just watchng this video, and geting into one... oh my! That would be really something!
Guys, recently just found your amazing channel now going to have to binge watch all your vids! Would be amazing for you to do a vid on the lightweight pocket rockets including your Rocket, the Lotus 340R (I've owned one of these this amazing car from new since 2000), Caterham R500 or equivalent, Ariel Atom etc. Would make an amazing feature video, although might be best to film in the spring.

I love the car, I especially love their emblem, but car that light with no aero, you really have to be careful not to push it anywhere but a racetrack.

@Zac Ariah It means all kinds of parts or design that aim to create aerodynamic effects. Downforce is the most common of those effects.

Love these cars , though Orange does it no favours something dark - BRG or black , and then that beautiful red space frame will really pop. Fantastic, and Kudos to you for your good taste, now you just need the F1 to make the set ;-)

There's something to be said for simplicity .... early 90s cars often had the best balance of raw mechanics but high efficiency (Efi etc) before cars got weighed down with refinements, thus: central locking, electric windows, climate control, ABS, info-tainment systems and the wiring looms and ECUs to control it all. There was a periodical in the 1930s ' The Light Car' but with today's SUV bloaters on the streets / school run -we've rather lost that idea... except for the Smart car?

You appear at least to be using the clutch like you would in a car? With a bike it's the other way round, instead of giving it some revs then slipping the clutch you release the clutch until the audible change in revs then apply throttle. Most bikes are wet clutches too so not as much worry of burning them out. Another bit of advice would be to look into apex nurburg, the owner Robert Mitchell and his employees. Nurburgring videos are always going to be big, especially when you consider the cars you could take there, plus if you do a video with micsha (butchered the spelling but still) he already has a big following on UA-cam. Either way I really enjoy your content and like every other twat on the internet had to have my 2 cents but highly recommend introducing yourselves to Robert, you defiantly share the same mindset on cars.

Yes, this. I did buy a BAC Mono and can confirm that it is next level bonkers both on track and on the road. They’re not cheap but are worth it, there’s little else to deliver the full single seater experience.

I don't get why they made this a two-seater. Seems like they could have got an even better power to weight ratio and even better balance in the car if they would have made it a single-seater.
To make it more marketable. Some owners did exactly that and made the backseat a bigger fuel tank. Either configuration would still be far ahead of any road going open wheeler
