I like to think of it like this. The only other way we could have witnessed these cars in action is by 100 year old sparse and degraded films. We get to see what it LOOKED and what it SOUNDED like thanks to these guys. And now it will be preserved for a very long time thanks to our capability to archive this footage.

I was walking down the street in Athy when 4 of these old race cars drove past by. They were huger than these three. They were sputtering and backfiring. The valves were clacking and the exhaust was loud and thick with smoke. They smelled like the lube pit at Oil Can Henry's. The drivers and passengers were having a wonderful time.
Glad I got to see it.

Good work! I get negative comments from people when I drive my 1929 or 1931 Ford. Things like, "That belongs in a museum" or "You drive that on the ROAD?". I have to remind people: It's a car. It was built to be driven, not to be left in a large garage for dead, but with the lights on. Keep it up, and best wishes!

There are still some people from the younger generation born with gasoline in their veins. There numbers are much smaller that past years from the post WWII era up through the 80's and 90's but they are out there. They are often dismissed because they might be playing around with a 92 Honda but give them credit for being willing to open the hood and turn a wrench or two. There are no $900 dollar 69 Camaro's that run and drive like I was able to buy when I turned 16 in 1982. They are buying what is out there and affordable.

Friends used to ask me why I drove my '68 Buick Electra when I got her, instead of cleaning her up & putting her away( I had the trunk's floor replaced, but other than that, it was basic maintenance). I replied, "Sure, they're hard to find parts for, & maybe you worry a little about getting it hit - but it was built to be DRIVEN - otherwise, you just have a really large paperweight." I wish I had her today - she would start on the 1st turn, no matter what the weather.

The opening shots reminded me of the time many many years ago of the story from a young man whom I knew, he was then a 19 year old apprentice , submitted an article to a classic car magazine in which he described setting out in a veteran car and driving through the early morning mist. The magazine published the article which was so well received that the owner of an early land speed record holding car invited the young chap down to stay at his home , a stately hall and be taken out at dawn for a drive through the English countryside. I believe that the car was/still is known as the "Metalurgic" and has recently featured in the Classic and Sports Car magazine, regrettably they did not relate the early morning mist episode which would have provided the now septugenarian apprentice with bragging rights at our local car club. Wonderful memories.

I never understood car shows. It is so boring to just walk around and look. I love the show n go at Brainered international raceway. Classic cars doing what they are meant to do. I enter my "classic car" in drift events, track race and drag race it every chance I get. I bought it for that and that is what I do with it. My neighbor has cars he has never driven. I respect him for preserving original cars. But I told him he at least has to experience them. He now will drive them a few times a year. Seeing him now, he is even more enthused by the cars he owns. He is so excited now when he talks about his last drive experience. Cars are meant to be driven and taking care of. In a way they are a part of my family.

Well done for keeping the history alive. The oldest car I drive is an 1898 Panhard Levassier, it was we believe a factory race car although it now has a saloon body. It is part of the Shuttleworth Collection where I volunteer in the vehicle section, we also have a 1904 De Dietrich-also a race car, and a lot of other cars and aircraft up to 1939. The unique point of Shuttleworth is that all of the collection runs and drives or flies-it is believed that we have the oldest flying aircraft in the world. Shuttleworth collection is based at the Old Warden airfield in Old Warden Bedfordshire UK.

Great GREAT GREAT photography! So beautiful was the start up I honestly had tears in the eyes. Part due to the fact that the love of my life (KSK 362, a car which I built by hand over 86 weeks using only found junk as I couldn't work as I had to have major surgery), I sold i order to buy y house to be mortgage free. Not a summer goes by without my missing flies in my teeth. I drove that car in the 1997 Liege-Agadir-Liege Sahara rally, I came last... but you know what, I still finished which was more than the Porsche and the Lotus team did. Keep it shiny side up and Greasy side down people, these are more than machines... they are time machines with a beating heart. 🏆

I used to do civil war reenacting.
I have a collection of 1850s smoking pipes
I remember one guy whod always scoff and say " that belongs in a museum, you shouldnt be smoking it"
Why sit it in a case where one or two people might look at it
Just a stroll arpund town with it garners more questions than a museum would ever hope to
    (They're rather ornate little things)
I eventually told thw guy that if everything that belonged in a museum went to one, there would be no point in museums.
Now, pipes arent race cars, but it stands the same
Use the antiques as they were designed and love them the way the past 5 to 10 owners did
Dont let history grow stale behind glass

I enjoyed seeing you own and run these cars. Unfortunately, many rare WW2 fighter aircraft have been lost to attrition by flying them in airshows. It makes me sick to see pilot error crash and destroy such valuable pieces of history. Some make the argument that the investors and restoration experts deserve to make the call. They decide how these irreplaceable aircraft are shown and utilized. I cannot argue against that point with merit. However the fact cannot be avoided that more than several of these great fighter aircraft have been destroyed in use through error and gross negligence. I personally have witnessed the demise of more than a dozen rare airplanes including Corsairs, P51 Mustangs, Spitfire, Hurricane, Blenum Bomber, Stearman and the list goes on. It would be a shame to lose and use up these super rare racing cars in like manner.

absolutely wonderful! reminds me of the Rush tune; red Barchetta. that primal wind in your face, the smells of the leather, oil,the song of the metal clockwork machinery meshing in exquisite precision providing that exhilarating rush of speed and adrenaline. the uncertainty of missing that gear for the next shift or maybe throwing that belt or wheel passing you by from ancient fatigue or metal stressed failure leading to catastrophic entropy in the next corner! the cacophony of clattering solid lifters coupled with the exhaust smell and note, the crunch of the gravel so close under tire you can practically touch the ground and feel the pebbly spray in your face! primal indeed! I love y'all wearing the original type gear goggles and throw back uniforms of the time, it must make you feel connected through time with a hundred years ago long warp thread binding you to the hallowed golden pioneering days of motor car racing in its infancy. it truly is a wonderful exciting leap back in time, and people say time machines don't exist, I sincerely beg to differ. thank you gentlemen.▪☆☆☆▪

You hit on the major travesty of a once great hobby. Today old/classic cars have become so pricey that only the well off can own them and they gather them into large collections that are locked away. I love that you guys dress the part when driving. You are living the history.

It is nice to see these cars driven ad being active.
    But here is another view:
In a museum, all people can enjoy looking at the car. A museum shares the same fascination of such a car with millions of people.
That is something a person who owns such a car would not do - to share it with millions of others. Those keep the cars exclusively for themselves, nobody else is allowed to use that car as they use it. Not much of "heroism" here.

I have a 1955 Lancia Aurelia B24 Spider. I love taking it out and putting the boots to it. So much fun slinging my car around corners. And no it doesn’t have a lot of HP. But it’s still fun.

Very nice, I agree you should use these cars. I have 2 prewar cars that I use all year round even in damp Britain. These racers are very special cars, and yes, expensive to buy and look after. But, like most car enthusiasts, I am by no means rich, in fact the opposite, I get by, and yet I manage to keep 2 old cars. We are all enthusiasts and this is a hobby you can do at almost any level of income. Great video, wonderful cars. Hope it encourages young people to get involved. I shall go out in mine today!

The worst thing happened to the old car scene has been the arrival of investors who put thei cars away in climate chambers only for polishing to show them at shows like Pebble Beach or waiting for the next auction, maybe also for standing to death in a museum!
