It's not an easy thing to do, I'm a Baritone and I can sing this and hit the notes. You need a hell of a lot of space in your mouth and your throat. Also a lot of support otherwise you ain't getting to those notes.

Once it finally moved to broadway it was discovered by a lot of musical theater people, making it more well known.

He's actually one of the most talented Broadway singers I've experienced in a very long time. If you watch other videos of him, it's pretty clear that high notes and falsetto are no issues for him whatsoever. If he seems to strain a bit here, it's probably just fatigue and nerves.

This performance compared to the movie, Evan seems more awkward and nervous but in the movie he just doesn’t know how to talk to people his anxiety is so bad and debilitating and seems more sad and less just awkward.
He's 22 here and much better suited for the role, it's true he sounds great now but he's 28 and while they tried to make him look 17 again he looks 45, which in his defense is young for trees but still

I'm so obsessed with this song now I wish I could see the full play 😩 Reading the description I feel like I can relate so much to Evan, the main character, in terms of suffering with social anxiety. And he has such an amazing voice. I like the way his voice trebles which adds to the effect of the shyness of his character but who is also dying to speak out and be heard ❤️👏🏼 I could go on and on about why I love this performance but I think I'll just stop here.
The full show is an absolute spectacle to see. We sat in the third row and my god, I don’t know how this shows songs are so powerful but it feels almost spiritual
Just saw this Sunday. Unreal. Ben Platt's performance is amazing. The one thing you don't get from listening to the soundtrack is all of the dialogue that takes place, which is even better than the music. I'm pretty sure the entire audience was in tears at the end. Truly amazing. Go see it.
If anyone's wondering what Dear Evan Hansen is about, here: A senior in High School with a broken arm, is suffering from really bad anxiety. His therapist told him to write letters to him self. One day, some boy named Connor Murphy, finds the letter and thinks it's a prank from Evan. Connor killed himself that night. Connor's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Murphy finds the letter and thinks it's a note to Evan. The entire school now thinks Connor and Evan were best friends. Evan, instead of coming clean, he goes along and writes E-mails to prove they were friends. I would tell you about the rest, but you'd have to see it yourself ;)

This video will never do justice for how well Ben performs live. I've seen my dad cry once in my 17 years of living and at the end of the first act i turn to him and he has tears rolling down his face. Absolutely incredible!!!!

I live in Scotland so if I don't want to see a touring production, which take years to exist even after the show moves to the UK, I have to go down to London and it's annoying because the prices are huge if the show is popular, or was on Broadway. Also, I would still have at least an hour's travel for a touring company as any half decent one tends to only go a few places in Scotland.

He hits that high note on "waving" much better and more consistently now in falsetto, he was really skrelting back then.
This performance compared to the movie, Evan seems more awkward and nervous but in the movie he just doesn’t know how to talk to people his anxiety is so bad and debilitating and seems more sad and less just awkward.
I got that vibe too. He seems to be genuinely anguishing over so many aspects of just being alive, much less being socially anxious
He's 22 here and much better suited for the role, it's true he sounds great now but he's 28 and while they tried to make him look 17 again he looks 45, which in his defense is young for trees but still
the raw emotion that ben platt has when he sings any of the songs is amazing. his voice will sound how he feels, not perfect, realistic. its absolutely amazing.
Just saw it last night and was blown away. Best musical I've seen since Book of Mormon. The lead (Platt) was amazing

Riley Brinser you would get a good portion of the story line, but in my opinion there is still a lot of the story missing if you only listen to the soundtrack and nothing else.
Riley Brinser what i do, since i cant see shows on broadway, is listen to the songs with lyrics, try to figure out whats happening, and if i cant, then i follow along with the songs on wikipedia. does that make sense?? i hope it does

Ben's voice is SO powerful in person - it's unreal how he can control the different emotions he portrays throughout these songs and somehow sing with the voice of an angel
normally a casting director for a stage production has to pick between prioritizing a perfect voice for a part, over a perfect characterization or vice versa . This casting director hit the lottery.

I'm so obsessed with this song now I wish I could see the full play 😩 Reading the description I feel like I can relate so much to Evan, the main character, in terms of suffering with social anxiety. And he has such an amazing voice. I like the way his voice trebles which adds to the effect of the shyness of his character but who is also dying to speak out and be heard ❤️👏🏼 I could go on and on about why I love this performance but I think I'll just stop here.

Just saw this Sunday. Unreal. Ben Platt's performance is amazing. The one thing you don't get from listening to the soundtrack is all of the dialogue that takes place, which is even better than the music. I'm pretty sure the entire audience was in tears at the end. Truly amazing. Go see it.

If anyone's wondering what Dear Evan Hansen is about, here: A senior in High School with a broken arm, is suffering from really bad anxiety. His therapist told him to write letters to him self. One day, some boy named Connor Murphy, finds the letter and thinks it's a prank from Evan. Connor killed himself that night. Connor's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Murphy finds the letter and thinks it's a note to Evan. The entire school now thinks Connor and Evan were best friends. Evan, instead of coming clean, he goes along and writes E-mails to prove they were friends. I would tell you about the rest, but you'd have to see it yourself ;)

This video will never do justice for how well Ben performs live. I've seen my dad cry once in my 17 years of living and at the end of the first act i turn to him and he has tears rolling down his face. Absolutely incredible!!!!
I made a lyric video for this song. I really like the message and it speaks the truth "if you're falling in a forest and there's no body around did you ever really crash or even make a sound?" because the truth is it is the people in our lives that give it meaning. Being alone is no fun.
When you live in the UK so you can't see amazing shows like this and where barely anyone appreciates Musicals like in the US...

I live in Scotland so if I don't want to see a touring production, which take years to exist even after the show moves to the UK, I have to go down to London and it's annoying because the prices are huge if the show is popular, or was on Broadway. Also, I would still have at least an hour's travel for a touring company as any half decent one tends to only go a few places in Scotland.

Danielle Wilde Actually I know more than fifty people in the U.S. who are obsessed with Newsies, Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, and more. If we are,so,ungrateful, why do we watch the shows? I can't go to New York. It's way too expensive. I'm grateful I have the privilege to even listen to this, so I'm in the same spot you are.
