Note about wrapping the handle- you could use a layer or two of felt for padding it out, which is what I did on my 1940 case. I drafted a different style template and from that cut a black and white paisley reproduction print to wrap the handle. The handle had not been removed but the felt would probably have worked even better if it was.

What are the dimensions of your cut material? I am a beginner trying to fix a similar handle with little loops vs the D rings.

Some of my not so old cases have these plastic type handles and mine are all in good condition. The leather older handles get brittle and fall apart. You probably won’t need to do anything with yours. I did make a fabric cover with some cute ruffles on both sides for one of my cases!
