- Welcome back to the Singer Featherweight Case Restore Along! If you are just joining us, you can catch up on Part 1 of the Case Restore Along right HERE: singer-featherweight.com/blog...
Now that the Featherweight case is completely stripped down of all the old tolex, and sanded to a smooth finish, we are moving on to the next step by removing all the outer hardware from the case: latches, hinges and handle.

Instead of gouging up the wood to remove the split rivets, grind off the heads with a dremel, being careful not to damage the latches. You can also get stainable wood putty.
If you ground off the heads from the front wouldn't you still have to remove them from the back since the tabs are bent over?
Drill out the rivets from the front if you don't want to make a mess.
I love this project. I’m hoping to repair my case and leave it as a stained wood. Thanks for the tip about the wood putty. I’m looking forward to seeing how you reinforce the dovetail hinges-(is that what they’re called?)
Part 1 on the Case Restore Along will show how to clamp, but just glue as needed. Thanks for asking!
I enjoy your viedows ao much, u keep using a term i can not determine what u are saying, the black product your removing what is it called exactly????
Annette’s fabrics for the featherweight are regular fabrics? The ofíciate gel coating is to protect the fabric? I never done this that’s why I have so many questions. Thanks 🙏
