I distinctly remember the game being on when Utley got hurt . I was like 9 and remember my dad being super concerned. When he explained to me just how serious that type of injury could and unfortunately turned out to be I understood why . I believe it’s Edward scissorhands that you can hear his name being announced in a scene where a game he played in was on a tv .
I was watching Monday Night Football when Joe Theisman's leg broke and it was pretty awful but a few years later on MNF Raiders running back Napolean Mcallam's knee bent the wrong way and it was even harder to watch.
The Joe Theismann injury was chronicled in The Blind Side. More recently, Damar Hamlin has made an inspiring comeback from a life threatening condition, cardiac arrest, following a seemingly routine tackle.
There was a particularly gruesome injury I saw in 1994 or 1995. It was a Raiders running back. He planted a foot and spun, sending his body one direction while his leg under the knee stayed put. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it live on national television. His foot was 90 degrees in the wrong direction. Anyway I can’t remember his name or exactly where or when it happened. Any of you can help, I’d appreciate it. Someone in the comments have to remember it too. It was a Sunday or Monday night game, and in 94 or 95.
Chazier played at plantation high in plantation Florida. I wonder what happens to a players contract when they get a career ending injury during a game. I'll never gorget theismans injury. You could see the compound fracture on tv.
He keeps mentioning they hold no bad feelings to football like it's a surprise. Why would they? No one forced them to play and they were paid handsomely for it. They knew the risk and clearly were willing to take them on.
You shouldn't have such an exuberant tone when speaking of events in football careers that severely changed lives nt for the better. As far as Stingley, Tatum hit him in the head with casts on his forearms. I don't know if there was any steel in those casts, but considering Tatum was a well known cheapshot artists, I wouldn't put it past him. The legacies of John Madden, Al Davis and Pete Rozelle can never be completely tallied without considering what they were complicit in Stingley's injury and death. Pete Rozelle in particular shld have been protecting players from debilitating dirty hits instead of being the commissioner of peecups and pot suspensions.
Alex Smith is an alltime inspirational figure, I will never forget him ❤
he really is

I actually saw 6 of these during the live broadcasts. Yeah, I'm old. There are at least a dozen others. You could make a part 2.

Some of these players were only making about 50-60k a year to play...if I was paralyzed from that I would be pretty pissed
Does Korey Stringer count?

You do know people dying on football fields used to be a routine occurrence right?

Dave's last name is pronounced "Krāg"
