Hi Emma, that plant with the 'exploding' seed pods, a type of oxalis I believe, can be an absolute nightmare as it also produces bulbils on its roots. They tend to drop off when one is weeding and each will produce a new plant! I enjoy your videos, just the thing when I am unable to get to my own plot!
Hi Emma they are seed pods and the plant there from is an absolute nightmare to get rid of as it spreads everywhere .we have the same thing on our allotment
Sowing carrots in compost is to rich for them, you'll find they'll have loads of tops with no bottom. Your pumkins are heavy feeders give them tomatoe feed every 2 weeks 👍
Oh yeah I no that feeling I was in my garden earlier this year and I kept hearing this little noise were I was but can't see anything but I keep looking around come to find out it was an oil leave tree at the other side by my neighbor the dry seeds were just going crazy in my garden, I had to try to find those seeds they had good size that was something else I had to cut them down hope you get rid of yours.
Had a strange stressful time in my plot today, went to start clearing my new plot only to end up disturbing a hedgehog, she walked away suddenly leaving me with 2 abandoned babies about a day old to deal with, if mother returns she is likely to eat them as their life has been threatened. Managed to finally get hold of someone who had experience raising them with an incubator and substitute milk, their lives now partly depend on how much colostrum they have had from their mother, apparently they will let me know what happens and if they survive will eventually bring them back to where they were found, fingers crossed they survive especially as hedgehog numbers are in decline in the UK
Hedgehogs! For me, here in Australia, that's like seeing a fairy at the bottom of the garden, or an elf, or THE QUEEN HERSELF!! I hear of gardeners around the world dealing with gophers, squirrels, racoons, voles, rats, deer, rabbits - none of them desirable, all of then destructive. But gee I have a soft spot for hedgehogs!! Seriously, I understand your distress, I would feel the same, but can you please post the outcome - I'd love to know.
@@andersonomo597 yes will update when I know, I'm now down as a contact to be used as a release site, so looks like some of my allotment plot will be dedicated to making sure it's the ideal habitat for them, providing easy access to water, hibernation shelter etc. I'm thinking of setting up a wildlife camera and starting a UA-cam channel so can post clips of them for others to see
@@andersonomo597 hoglets update: they are still alive and gaining weight, however they are still not out of the woods yet, was told there is still the risk of bloating and infection due to them being only about 20g and need to reach a safer 120g, so far so good, they are feisty apparently, but still a long way to go
Update: unfortunately the hoglets didn't make it, one passed away last night, the other one this morning, at least they slipped away peacefully rather than being mauled to death, I'm absolutely gutted, they did well to last a week I guess.
@@mikinswales Oh, I'm so sorry! That's so sad. 😢😢I'm sure everyone did what they could - the wildlife careers will be upset too.......and you're right - at least they were given a fighting chance but sometimes there's nothing more we can do.
hi Emma, ive just found your channel and i love watching you. this is my first year growing in my garden and im growing in containers. i harvested 20lbs of cara spuds in july! i was so excited! my moneymaker tomatos have been rubbish , but my gardeners delight ones have been brilliant! ive just froze most of them to make tomato soup in the autumn.bit gutted today though, a pidgeon dug my beetroot seeds up over night, but ive just wacked more in and lets hope for the best!
That is oxalis, try to weed it out before it develops it’s seed pod, it’s hard to get rid of. As for your pumpkins I would try feeding them and probably give them lots more water as well.
peppers tolerate dry soil so much more than radishes so in this heat to plant in hothouse radishes without watering them like daily is bit pointless. I don't want to be Debby downer i have just made the same mistake last year :) radishes like cold whether and a water so they send them for fall planting.
My jack be little's are about 3-4 inches so far, the Baby boo's are just bigger than golf ball size. I lost a few of each to begin with but so far so good! I had something similar to your 'exploding fly weed'. I found the best thing to do was to burn them with a weed burner, burning from the bottom up, that way they burn before exploding.
Finally the tomato fairies have turned up to me now with their red spray cans 😀 I’m the same as you, give it a go, it’s better than doing nothing. And if you get something out of it, it tastes so much better than any shop
I'm having the same this year with my pumpkins and squash, they grew really big last year. This year I have one growing big and the rest have stopped growing 🤷🏻😅
Those cherry tomatoes look awesome, Emma! I'm waiting for mine to turn color. Some animal is eating a lot of them before they even get a chance to turn. I picked an orange cherry tomato today and I am letting it continue to ripen on the counter. I want to eat at least one! Last year I didn't get any...there is a lot of wildlife on my property.
Brilliant doing great... Always watching the videos... I grow radishes alot... My dad really likes them... They are easy unless you over sow them... Which think maybe you over sowed... Most won't have room to grow and will get stressed and bolt... When they get bigger thin them out... Replant the others in other gaps and roughly 6 weeks the root fills out... French breakfast is really nice and can cope with being a little cramped...
My pumpkins are the same this year, bit tiddly but producing flowers. I think it's the excessive hot weather and very little water... Plants will always prefer rainwater over tap 😑
There is one pumpkin in my garden that is not getting bigger as well 🤔 It's really strange. I think mine is in a pot with old soil but yours is in the ground and it should grow like the other pumpkin that's why it's really strange. The seed heads are popping 😂🤣 I felt like you when I experienced it for the first time 😉Take of your gloves and feel how they "jump" into your hands 😂
Those seed pods are your worst nightmare .They can travel up to 40 ft and you will never ever be rid of it .Every year I've come to hate summer as every pot, bed, plant is covered in it .It will grow through any mulch .it's red oxalis and is a nightmare weed 😞
Your plants probably could do with more water and water early morning or evening otherwise the water just evaporates. What compost r u using, it looks a bit like the type with wool in which is rubbish. Water the seed trough first before sowing the seeds and again when they are covered up. But give your whole plot a very good soak, could take over an hour, but worth it. Whatever was in those dried seed pods now look to be distributed far and wide by running your hand through it.
Wow those seed pods were awesome. Isn’t nature amazing. Littterally going to seed. Pumpkins are about the same as mine. I sowed the same week as doing the let’s grow a pumpkin grow along. Mine doesn’t want to grow either. I’m guessing they will soon
My pumpkin is escaping my allotment and has climbed through the chain link fence 😂 where did you get your dungarees from Emma? They’re lovely you look beautiful in them xx
i personally think its the table salt you have been putting in and around your pumpkins, salt will stay in soil for a long time and will be difficult to neutralise and leach out with rainwater, salt kills alot of microbiology in the soil so can make it hard for plant to harvest nutrients from the ground. just my thoughts having watched your videos around when you have sown and planted the pumpkins
All of You Tube is so very confusing to me there is to much stuff flying at me to know what I'm suppose to do to see my favorite people why are you charging more money and cutting my channel off unhappy veiwer.
Oh Emma you made me laugh, exploding flies, brightened my day as I'm having a bit of a rough time at moment. Keep making people happy. Thanks
take the flowers off, emma. let the plant put its energy into growing.....................brian

I totally agree Emma nothing compares to picking food you have grown yourself 🤤😊

Hi Emma 👋 oh l love your Dungarees, you have some nice clothes, but these are my FAVOURITE nice tomatoes too 🍅🍅🍅
i sowed 90 pumpkins 45 baby boo 45 jack be lill and only got 2 or 3 alive lol
I think you'll find the popping plants are a variety of oxalys. We used to have them, they are hard to get rid of
Agree
Yellow wood sorrel

Hiya Emma oh another duckling lol. Popping seeds? Crazy lol. Enjoy your harvest! Blessings luv Ontario Canada Thankyou 🐝🇨🇦
Love 🥰 Emma's allotment diary video's. Thanks for sharing what you do on your allotment. Have a great weekend.

I think that is Wood Sorrel. I try to get them before they develop seedheads...
I'm having the same this year with my pumpkins and squash, they grew really big last year. This year I have one growing big and the rest have stopped growing 🤷🏻😅
I think they are a weed called balsum they have pink flowers.x
We put a fair lot of water on them and chicken manure pellets and ours went nuts x
Your garden looks great

I have seen those bursting seed pods in our paddy field long ago it pops when touched by water
My pumpkins are the same this year, bit tiddly but producing flowers. I think it's the excessive hot weather and very little water... Plants will always prefer rainwater over tap 😑
Mine got eaten my slugs 🐌 and snails 🐌 but 1 out of 8 is growing we will see xx

Hi Emma, You have one more pumpkin than me, all mine gave up the fight for survival.
Those seed pods are your worst nightmare .They can travel up to 40 ft and you will never ever be rid of it .Every year I've come to hate summer as every pot, bed, plant is covered in it .It will grow through any mulch .it's red oxalis and is a nightmare weed 😞
I've had a handful of female flowers on my mini pumpkin vines but all have shriveled up and died without opening.

Maybe Those small plants are not pumpkins. They look more like bush squash of some kind. Seller could have mixed up seed.
they will grow. its just time in the ground. probably putting roots down. when they come of age they will thrive im sure.
Hi Emma just wanted to ask a stupid question what will you do with the pumpkins
Wow those seed pods were awesome. Isn’t nature amazing. Littterally going to seed. Pumpkins are about the same as mine. I sowed the same week as doing the let’s grow a pumpkin grow along. Mine doesn’t want to grow either. I’m guessing they will soon
First love your videos Emma your a right entertaining gardener
three are quite a number of plants that disperse their seeds by " popping "....................brian
I blame the spiders for your pumpkins :)
I think the small pumpkin isn't growing because the big one is taking all the space food and energy of the soil l think Emma 🤔 xx
My pumpkin is escaping my allotment and has climbed through the chain link fence 😂 where did you get your dungarees from Emma? They’re lovely you look beautiful in them xx
A duck baby omg 😂😍🥰🥰🥰
👍👍✨✨
I don't know what that plant is but why do I have a feeling of dread you just released millions of evil seeds 😁🤣
Weeds get rid or you will never get rid of them x
Pumpkin needs a feed it's stop growing so it can flower and grow pumpkins
Maybe you need to feed them
i personally think its the table salt you have been putting in and around your pumpkins, salt will stay in soil for a long time and will be difficult to neutralise and leach out with rainwater, salt kills alot of microbiology in the soil so can make it hard for plant to harvest nutrients from the ground. just my thoughts having watched your videos around when you have sown and planted the pumpkins
Plot looking fab... however I would haved loved to see your children pick even one tomatoe and pop it in their mouths to see how tasty they are.
