Wow…. I had not known about pulling the end caps off of the brush roller before. Did that on my DC33 and suddenly they rotate easily! Thank you very clear video, no BS just straightforward useful info.
This is like having Rik Mayall tell me how to fix my vacuum cleaner! Very animated! Thank you for the vid. Interesting how you (and others) cite this as the 'last decent model'
Thanks for the vid. My cat decided to wee on our hoover and had to strip it right back to parts as it had managed to get all the way inside the motor chamber.
Hi from Las Vegas. Just bought a non working dc 33 for 60$ and the Brush don’t spin. So thinking it is the clutch seeing the belt on the brush is not broken. Thanks for a delightful video.
Great job!! Just picked o e up at local good will. 25 bucks. + another 32 bucks of parts.... great Vac. I'll have to break mine down soon.....Thanks for the show and tell!
Wow! That’s very generous of you of putting this vid together! QUESTION. As I was vacuuming/dusting my stereo, my DC33 sucked a knob. I disassembled the hoses and filters but still can’t find it. It’s a mid sized knob. Can you please give me a clue on where to find it?
Oh no! If it went up the hose, then assuming the hose is clear, remove the u bend on the back of the machine and check there, then remove the elbow on the side. The air path goes into the bin from there, if you've got a scrap bit of flex or similar rodding impliment rod through the chassis ducts too. Hopefully it's wedged somewhere handy to get at 🤞
great vid man fair play i have a dc33 iam haveing a problem when useing it dont pick up very well when i use the pipe part i have full sucktion very well but when i used the hoover in normal use is really bad dont pick up any idears please
Hi! Thanks. Underneath the machine is a hose, is that perished or clogged? Also remove the base plate and check for clogs under there.. Is the brushroll spinning when reclined?
Somewhere there will be, but the end caps slide onto the shaft in the middle after the bearings are on each end. Then just push both ends together until they push in no more, then rotate so they both align the same way. Then it'll slot into the housing, clutch/non clutch dependant
I’ve followed your strip and rebuild tutorials to change a burnt out motor and brush roller on my dc33 but since I changed the motor it doesn’t have the suction it used to have, it used to be quite difficult to push it along our carpet with the suction but now it pretty much glides over the carpet. Any suggestions to what I’ve done wrong?? When I turned it on before the motor burnt it literally planted itself in the pile of the carpet. Btw the videos are very thorough 👍
Assuming the suction through the wand is good, give the spring hose that runs to the brushroll housing a slight twist to one side. That pipe forms the spring action that pushes the brushroll housing down into the carpet. If it's too far gone their cheap on ebay. If you've not got good suction through the wand either did the motor seal on properly?
If the clutch will not engage is it totally gone or are there adjustments that can be made to get it working again? When the switch is turned to carpet mode it does not engage the brush Thx 😊
I found one on the street the head doesn't rotate. The suction is poor and the suction from the wand is weak. I bought one on eBay too for £18 they changed the motor but never got it going. I'll see if I can follow your video to make myself a working one👍🙂
So, currently in the middle of this, but getting stuck trying to remove the clutch knob. I'm possibly just too worried that I'm going to break it! Any tips?
With the cleaner reclined, get the screwdriver in as close to top and bottom as you can, that's where the latches are. Perhaps a tad more leverage but too much and you'll crack the clutch housing (but that isn't always an issue)
I started the process before I found this video and I managed to assemble almost everything back where it goes, but I have a spring left over that I cannot figure out where it goes and I don't think it was covered in this video. I also can't find it on dc33 diagrams online. Could anyone help me identify where it goes?
Does your cyclone empty with the red lever? There's 2 that go in there. Bar that there's not many other springs. One in the clutch, one behibd the wand release latch, a small black one that goes under the recline latch... Hard to tell without seeing it, feel free to email me a pic and I'll tell you. S.c.g.watson@gmail.com
I've stripped the slimmer ydk out of a 33, can you help with putting it back together.. I've got new bearings for it, but need to know exact placement.. and all its little spacer washers etc... Oops Did it after a couple of tins.
Usually it's the little spacer bit first, then a washer, then the fan, then a washer, then the nut. Inside the motor there may or may not be a little spring washer to go behind the rear bearing, but ive not taken a ydk apart for years, not since doing my video on stripping them down... Maybe have a look for that! Type in ydk beko and it should come up.
Thanks for that. How about bearing spacing. They were very tight to get off, but didn't leave marks on the shaft, so need them to be back on the right position.
Overall an extremely helpful video considering that my dyson is currently in the dishwasher on a cold wash. However, the repair technician side of me cringed so many times at how you just pulled apart so many one way clips with barely any attempt to pry them up first, in particular for the rubbish release and the handle (which were the exact reason why I watched your video) they've both got one way clips that can easily be pried up with a flat screwdriver. But nonetheless, I applaud your specificity in how completely you took it apart, thank you.
After (I'd guess) 30/40 DC33's you get a feel of how the plastic bends and flexes. Never broken a part yet! You can't do it so much on the newer ones though, the tolerance becomes much less the newer you get
@@beko1987 ha ha, yeah that makes a certain amount of sense for sure, you grow relaxed with the familiarity. Where as I'm always a little bit timid, especially my first time into any given machine. However my familiarity lies with power tools and lawn mowers, where the cable management tends to be easier to keep up with and the plastic bits are older and more brittle.
I've been thinking of replacing my boring aldi electric mower with an older more fun small flymo or similar, would I have much trouble? Guess they won't be a million miles from a vacuum cleaner...
Cleaning Dyson hose by chucking it into the wash! Seriously? Does doing so actually get the yuck out of the nooks and crannies? This, sir, is a demonstration video for you to produce!
I clean a lot of hoses in the washing machine! A good soak first to get the worst off, then in with some towels or similar so it doesn't bank around. 40 degrees thougb, I've found 60 shrinks Dyson hoses and makes them too tight on the wand
Not sure without seeing it, I'm assuming this is for the brushroll? Does my rebuild thread help? manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php/topic,1961.0.html
Thankyou! Excellent helpful video. Just replaced the motor in my 2011 DC33
The best guy ever on break down to the minutest detail videos
The best Dyson ever made.

Thanks for the instruction... broke it down to the little blue filter clip. hat a great place for a clip repair!! 😂

Where does the black bearing clip go in my DC33
How do you get the rubber part for the cleaner head hose on without a air leak
The grey end bit of the inner hose? It pops onto a tiny lip around the edge, doable with a small wriggle and it should pop on
Helpfully for my repair.
Thanks for the vid. My cat decided to wee on our hoover and had to strip it right back to parts as it had managed to get all the way inside the motor chamber.
Yikes, that sounds fun! Enjoy your accidentally refurbished Dyson now though 🤣👌
good stuff! I knew they are easy to maintain and thats why we use them in our residential cleaning company.
I was just about to buy a new Dyson cause mine was losing suction. Turned out that it just needed the cyclone cleaned out. Thanks for this video!
I'm saving this video in my playlist. Thank you!
Our Dyson dc 33 was on facebook for free and they said it didn’t work so we replaced the plug and it worked so it was a $10 repair
Thanks for this! Somehow a toy car got sucked up and stuck in a tube. Got it out easily because you showed me how to take it apart!
How can i change a fillter cover
Just buy a replacement (all dc14 filter covers are the same) and fit it on 👍
It is mission critical that you don’t throw the parts into the bin make a racket!
you are really great

What is the best brush roll replacement?
Is there a video on putting it back together??? I got the brush roll back in but can’t figure out how the end prices are supposed to fit it or lock in

Love all u video can u do a video putting it back together
Thank you sir!
Are you planning on doing the dc14 stripdown?
Any chance on how to show us how you wash you bits, in a video as you have not done, i wash all mine by hand, what a ball ache. Great video.
That's how I do it too!
I changed the clutch recently on my Dyson dc33 and the bar beater still won’t work. Any idea of what else it could be? It still turns on just fine.

Beko1987 yes the wand suction is good ( I should have put that 🙄) thanks for the quick reply, I’ll order a new hose 👍
And why does my Dyson dc 07 clutch make a very wired sound when I turn it off
great video thank you
If the clutch will not engage is it totally gone or are there adjustments that can be made to get it working again? When the switch is turned to carpet mode it does not engage the brush

Fantastic video! I
see sparks through the top filter housing at the motor and it smells like electrical burn. New wiring harness or motor?
Thank you! It's the motor, a small amount of sparking from the carbons is normal, but if you can smell it its not long for this world im afraid

Once apart gather some filler and a large box so you can ship to Dyson and have them put back together.
