I recommend mixing the clove oil with the glycerin before adding them to the rest of the ingredients. Otherwise the clove oil may separate out of the binder after a few days.

I'm not to sure about the high fructose. But yes you can use different sugars. You can also make your own sugar water mixture. Or just go without the sugar. It will probably be a bit more hard to rewet.

I use sodium benzoate and a live enzyme Bac-out... no refrigeration needed, just air tight storage. Thyme is stronger than clove and tea tree is stronger than all those. When I 1st started making watercolors, I would mix all 3 of those oils together and put drops of that mixture in.... but it still needs to be refrigerated that way. It's a huge pain in the arse having to keep storing everything in the refrigerator.
I use sodium benzoate and an enzyme active Bac-Out together. Thyme is stronger than clove and Tea tree oil is stronger than both of those. I use to mix clove, thyme and tea tree together to put in my watercolors at 1st, but keeping it in the refrigerator is a Huge pain in the arse.... so now I do it the way I suggested at the beginning of my comment. No refrigeration needed
This was pounded (in a friendly way) into my head from childhood: That is a *water* kettle not a *tea* kettle. 😁 Other than that it's a great tutorial, thanks.
Tim Berry as someone who has an English mother and learns from her, it makes me really mad when someone says tea kettle. You don’t just use it for tea!
Some brands like Sennelier and M Graham use honey because it keeps the paint more moist and easier to re-wet I think. I've read that you can substitute honey with glycerin, and they mostly add flow to the paint when you use it
The honey acts as a preservative, or I've heard you can use thyme oil. Though, I'm not exactly sure if it's necessary to add preservatives if you're going to use the binder right away and if you pour the paint into pans to dry
I used an only honey water and gum arabic,it came out to be very sticky.I dried it with my heat gun started off nice and dry. After it sat it became very sticky. And the pans never dried out.My honey was very granulated so not real sure how much I used. Was I using to much honey?
I tried. :) If you get the pure powdery mica you can do it with no effort. You do not need a muller for that to be honest. Mica does bind very easy. But do not use ready to use eye shadow. That contains buttery stuff and makes not for a good watercolor for various reasons. (I tried it. *lol*)
Wait im so confused so the binder can last up to 6 months yh, so what about the paint u make by using the binder does it last forever or only for 6 months?
No, the paint lasts way longer. But it's best to let it dry in a pan. Mold usually only grows in moist surroundings. Let your paints also dry before you close your palette after drawing.
You might try making a super saturated solution for the thicker version. I miiight try putting the gum arabic into a pot of boiling of water and do a small expiriment. Id slowly raise the water to gum ratio and keep jars with a bit more preservitive after taking samples of each ratio. You could see how long it takes each sample to coagulate or crystalize. That should tell you a bit more about the length of time itll keep and how thick you can get it. Theres probably a better way to say that and make it more scientific.. Hope it helps
Yes, just add honey and glycerin. Liquid gum arabic is the 1st thing she made with the powdered gum. Then just added the other ingredients to the Liquid gum arabic she made. I don't use oils in my watercolors tho, I use sodium benzoate and a live enzyme bac-out and I don't need to put/store anything in the refrigerator.

Or just go without the sugar. It will probably be a bit more hard to rewet.
How do you know what the ratios need to be?
what is the paint palette that you are using?
Do i water color? No but I might after watching you!! I honestly love you now haha your so cool!!!
AAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Arlee, your videos are always so relaxing, thank you so much for inspiring me! 😭 OH MY GOODNESS I’M SO HAPPY YOU WANT TO SELL YOUR PAINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just got a Visa gift card given to me as a late birthday present, and I’ve been beyond conflicted on what to use it for, (to buy books, or order a print from someone, or just to save and treat myself to the occasional McDonalds milkshake with, etc.) (I’m bad with decision making) but I think the fact you’re going to eventually sell your paints tells me that I should probably just tuck it away for that 😉😉 I’m so happy for where your art has been going lately!! Your work is always amazing, but it’s been cool to see you kinda experimenting! My art has been in a really weird transition phase lately, so it’s nice to be able to just relax and watch your videos and be inspired. I love this piece it’s so visually interesting!
Can you use lavender as a preservative?
Very good. I like it. I love it.🥰♥️💓
Would it be possible to use other kinds of oils as preservatives? Like rosehip seed oil, tea tree oil? What kinds are OK to use?
I've also heard you can use thyme oil as well, or 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of sodium benzoate (a food grade preservative)
Can you use liquid gum Arabic instead of the powder?
Do you have to use clove oil or can you use a different type of oil?
I've also heard you can use thyme oil as well, or 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of sodium benzoate (a food grade preservative)
Other than that it's a great tutorial, thanks.
I've just been singing "I'm a Little Teapot" for SO LONG. xD
Tim Berry as someone who has an English mother and learns from her, it makes me really mad when someone says tea kettle. You don’t just use it for tea!
What's the honey for? Earlier this year I made a batch with only glycerin, gum arabic and water, what difference does the honey make?
Some brands like Sennelier and M Graham use honey because it keeps the paint more moist and easier to re-wet I think. I've read that you can substitute honey with glycerin, and they mostly add flow to the paint when you use it
Are there any alternatives for the Arabic gum?
How long does the paint take to dry once u pour them into the pans?
Question: would like to know if i can use other oils as substitute? Or vinegar/lemon as preservatives? 🤣🤣
The honey acts as a preservative, or I've heard you can use thyme oil. Though, I'm not exactly sure if it's necessary to add preservatives if you're going to use the binder right away and if you pour the paint into pans to dry
Are they become solid or remain in a liquid form??? Plzzz tell me I'm beginner 😳
Is there any way to make this without the powder and glycerin?
From what I know, you can substitute the glycerin with honey. You can also use gum arabic crystals instead of the powder
I used an only honey water and gum arabic,it came out to be very sticky.I dried it with my heat gun started off nice and dry. After it sat it became very sticky. And the pans never dried out.My honey was very granulated so not real sure how much I used. Was I using to much honey?
do i have to use clove oil.
Can I use liquid gum arabic instead of the powder?
Minh Anh Vũ yes! I don’t know the specifics of how that will change ratios and things, but you definitely can :]
arleebean Thank you very much! I really love your videos!♥️
Hi, have you tried making watercolor out of eyeshadow pigments?
I tried. :)
If you get the pure powdery mica you can do it with no effort.
@@Erdhenne TYSM!!
Am I first? Yay! Wishing you a good day and as always I’m loving your series on making watercolors.
Thank you so much!! I hope you have a wonderful day as well. ♥
If the binder only lasts a week or 6 months in the fridge, how does it remain stable once mixed with pigments and made into paints?
Yes if you let your paints dry. The problem is only with moisture.
Does it have to be unsweet honey?
Is there another alternative to clove oil? hehe
I've also heard you can use thyme oil as well, or 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of sodium benzoate (a food grade preservative)
So if you don't add glycerol the binder is edible?
You talk like Ross from Friends and I love it 💗😁✨
Can I use liquid gum Arabic?
Yes, just add honey and glycerin. Liquid gum arabic is the 1st thing she made with the powdered gum. Then just added the other ingredients to the Liquid gum arabic she made. I don't use oils in my watercolors tho, I use sodium benzoate and a live enzyme bac-out and I don't need to put/store anything in the refrigerator.
yo i need help in Australia i can only find gum arabic in liquid form. will this work the same??!
Yes, it will. :)
It's a bit more expensive but they basically did the boring job off dissolving the gum arabic for you.
