- My first ever Super 8mm film that I've decided to shoot in the glorious Ibiza. I had two rolls of Kodak 200T and I run them through the Sankyo EM-40XL. It was a great experience, now I would shoot it in a different way, but I still love the whole film, it will be such a great memory in the years to come.

I was born in the wrong generation. Look at how warm and fuzzy everything looks! Super 8 and it’s analogues need to make a Comeback
Yes man! Me too! as much as I like the convenience of digital cameras the film look is the one that I’m trying to chase and get. Cine film is sill around but it’s very expensive. I wish they would’ve invented a super 16 or standard 16 in a cartridge and make it a bit cheaper. One day though I will have a real 16mm video!
@@girmonsproductions I feel like it is a format that analog-heads like us would find use in considering how much we’d be able to fit.
Excellent, looks like my parents old 8mm films from the 70s'.
Thanks! Yes 8mm film just instantly brings back those years
Loved the video timelapse at 3:20 to show the sunrise (or set!) the jump cuts are a cool DIY way to show the passage of time
Thanks a lot man! Yeah I really like using the jump cuts as much as I can, it works well for the sunsets doesn’t it. It’s quite easy on the super 8 because you can just shoot single exposures and you can make a real long time lapse. But I haven’t done that in this one.
Brilliant video! Exactly what I was looking for, I'm going on a family holiday this year to Ibiza and wanna do the same thing, looking to buy a super8 camera, any tips or recommendations? thanks
Hey bud thanks so much!
So I’ve got the sankyo xl 40 I think. Check the description for the exact model. My Auto zoom doesn’t work on it so I have to manually zoom, not an issue, I’ve paid £50 for it about 5 years ago. For the film I’ve used the Kodak 200T which worked pretty well with it, the camera has got an automatic orange filter in it so then the films becomes a 160ISO which is pretty good for the sunny Ibiza. And if you need to film in the evening or at night then you’ll have to accept some underexposed pictures. I would say also that try to combine some still compositions with some movement. But my style is that I prefer more still frames with the subject moving in there.
And definitely hire a car when you’re there and explore the north side of the island. It’s less touristy and more hilly, really good beaches to see.
I got a second video from Ibiza on my channel take a look if you want, it might give you an idea how awesome Ibiza is.
All the best!
@@girmonsproductions thanks for the quick reply! I wanna do as you say with the still camera and moving objects, but mix it up a little, I've recently been really interested in vintage travel documentaries, and love the style. I'll look into the film etc like you mentioned. I have been to Ibiza before, but not on a family holiday for a long time, so should be an experience with a 1 year old! If i manage to get my hands on one of these i'll be over the moon. :) thanks again
Cool.
great little film and nice editing.
That’s sweet, many thanks for the nice comment ❤
Did you shoot it at 18 or 24fps?
I shot at 18fps in camera, but told Gauge Film to scan it at 24fps. That’s why it appears it a bit faster.
@@girmonsproductions thanks! Amazing video
Really enjoyed that😊
Just sent my first roll of 200T off for developing and scanning. Hope it turns out as nicely 🤞🏼
Glad you enjoyed that! yes it should as long as the camera was working properly. I had no idea about my Sankyo camera just had to take the risk but it was worth it. What did you shoot on your 200T?
@@girmonsproductions I used a Eumig Mini3 Servofocus camera. It's so compact and neat to use, ideal for travelling with.Only paid £30 off ebay.
It all appears to be working ok in that the motor runs smoothly, light meter seems to work and zoom function is ok. Other than that it's really a nervous waiting game now to see how it's turned out.
I just took a walk around my hometown, on a dry bright day at the start of February, shooting buildings, landmarks and places of local interest. Probably not the most exciting subject matter for the casual viewer but hopefully a good way to test the camera and practice my shooting skills a little 🙂
@@MomentoMovies Well exactly, I think that's the best way how to figure out if the camera is for you and then once you'll get the film back you can plan to shoot more with it. Good luck! :)
@MomentoMovies Heya have you got your film back yet? How was it?
Just found the two recent super 8 videos! I'm going to watch them
How’s the song called ? I love it!
