This was so helpful. My boyfriend had a favorite jacket and he was going to donate it since the teeth were coming undone once the slider was moved up. I gently squeezed on the slider on both sides and the teeth connect and stay connected now. He’s so happy he gets at least another season with his favorite jacket!
You just made my day, ordered a jacket from a Chinese company and the slider was on the wrong side, took off the zipper stops, switched the slider to the other side, put the stops back on, works like a charm. Thanks a TON for taking the time to make a concise video on how to fix.
Lady, thank you so much. I was about to buy a new jacket thinking the repair could be costly. I fixed it with your simple instructions and saved money, and also I'm not gonna be enduring cold winds anymore.
Had a favorite jacket for 8 years and the track started coming undone. Thank you for the tip about pressing down at the back of the teeth! I get to keep it
Simply amazing and thank you. You videos are clear and well recorded with great audio. You have actually saved on "landfill" as I was going to throw away my rucksack which had 2 zippers that had broken. I have watched your videos and fixed both zippers, so thank you from Sunny England 🙂
Great! I would love a follow up video on how to change the actual zipper from a jacket. Sometimes, often, the zipper itself is broken with missing teeth’s etc Have a great day!

Computer bag with enclosed zipper. Went in behind with needle nose pliers, tiny little squeeze each side. Nope. Second slightly tighter squeeze each side, run zipper back to start. Perfect. It works and it's easy. Thank you! Subscribed.
My problem is the bottom metal ferrule on the left hand zip has pulled away from the jacket, making it practically impossible to feed the zipper side in on the right hand side. But I cannot see a way of reattaching the ferrule or replacing it.
i hat the problem like this becouse the bottem part wasnt fully seated maiking it come apart when used so i had to force pull the zipper down after getting the jacked from over my head and than the issue was solved it was brand new jacket so its fine now thank you tho i know how to replace it now if needed
Hi good question! For molded tooth zipper chains you would install zipper stops like these: sailrite.com/shop/notions/zippers/stops?facet_chain_type=Molded+Tooth
This video was exactly what I was looking for I have the exact same zipper! I do have a question though, mine has the plastic stopper at top, do I pull/pry it off? Will it go back on, or will I have to use a metal stopper on that side? Thank you.
Hi! Yes, you will have to snip and pry the plastic stop off like we did in the video at 1:27. However, you will likely have to replace that zipper stop. Depending on the zipper chain size and style, you can replace it with a metal or plastic zipper stop. You can find some replacement zipper stops on our site: sailrite.com/shop/notions/zippers/stops?facet_chain_type=Molded+Tooth Hope that helps!
I'm a 77 year old guy... I just bought a great Winter coat at Goodwill... I liked everything about it until I got it home and tried it Zip it up. The Zipper works fine but it is on the Wrong side for me. How do I go about getting it Reversed ? Do I remove both Stops and get another Slider and Starter piece...or Replace the whole zipper assembly ? Liked/Subscribed ! THANKS !
Hi there! Unfortunately, when it comes to separating zippers like the one on your winter coat, it's not recommended to try to replace individual components like the starter box. Attempting to take apart the zipper from the bottom can often damage the zipper permanently. If you need to fix the issue with the zipper being on the wrong side, the best solution is to seam rip the entire assembly and install a new zipper. Thank you for liking and subscribing! I hope this information is helpful to you. Let us know if you have any other questions!
Can I ask if you have a plastic zipper stop and it has to be removed by breaking it off...what do you do to replace the zipper stop. Stitching one by had with thread??
Hi, Thanks for reaching out! On jackets, it is easiest to replace them. Here are all of our zipper stops for molded tooth chains. www.sailrite.com/search.php?query=zipper+stops&facet_chain_type=Molded+Tooth These can be attached at the top of your zipper chain. Just make sure to select the correct size for your zipper (e.g., #5 or #10). Please let us know if you have any other questions.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I was able to fix my boyfriend’s favorite jacket that his ex broke the zipper on! It only took me five minutes to fix it 😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️
Where do you find those pliers? I was at Home Depot in every department but only found various sizes of needle nose pliers. Hobby Lobby didn't carry those either. Thank you for your reponse
Hi, if you're referring to the smooth pliers with the red handle you can search the web for "smooth jaw duckbill pliers" and you should be able to find a retailer that carries them. If you're referring to the Zipper Stop Pliers we sell them on our site: www.sailrite.com/Zipper-Stops-Pliers. Hope that helps!
any zipper expert out there, if i am invalid with only the right hand usable what kind ofzipper do i need, currently the one hoodie that i have has the rail on left, and that works for me. all hoodies that i have tried to buy online arrive at me with rail on the right and those are useless, therefore returned because i cannot close the zipper on them. thank you for pointing me in the right direction
Why are there no videos on a how to repair a 2 part zipper anywhere on the internet? My winter ski jacket has one of those zippers thays composed of 2 parts. You have to line them both up (both are on the same side) before the jacket can be zipped up. Zipper size is SV8, it's a big zipper. Anyways, im missing the bottom part of that 2 part zipper. All of these instructional videos are great, but they dont cover replacing those blasted 2 part zippers. Somebody, please, help!!!
Hi James. Zippers come in many different sizes. Sometimes, you can find the size of your zipper on the back of the slider. (Like the size 5 zipper in the video at :26) If there isn't a size listed on your zipper, you can measure the width of your zipper teeth in millimeters, and that should correlate with the zipper size necessary for a replacement. You can see an example of this at :28. Hope this helps! @@kimsmith6469 I have found a few here and there mainly in western and farm stores. Military jackets used to have them but not sure anymore.. locally there is a person here that seam rips and resews any zipper you want however I imagine by the time one does that it is just as costly as going and buying another jacket or coat. I have found in my experience with plastic zippers using a silicone lubricant seems to help as much as oil helps on the old metal ones. Hope that helps and if anyone is actually looking for metal zippers for a do-it-yourself kind of thing they can be found on Amazon in several different brands.
