Very good metaphor for how a lot of kids grow up parentless in hood. Parents absent for all kinds of reasons: clubbing, running the streets, whoredom. It was a very good scene.
This movie was actually sad asf . Having lived in the hood my whole life here in Philly , this was just fkn sad . The part where Fontaine ask his mom to talk to him broke my heart . Great movie .
Growing up in Watts, and for the movie to come full circle in LA was surreal. The hopelessness John Boyega was able to convey through his eyes while playing Fontaine was beyond real. As I recall, Boyega grew up in an inner city of London with a high crime rate as well. That combined with his performance arts education made him the perfect fit to guide us on this journey. Genuine performance.

I love this movie, but I am scared, too. My mom used to say every movie and story got a little truth to it. It's all a matter of how far they stretch it. Think about Black mirror metalhead( robotic attack dogs) police are using that tech right now, Arkangel( parents tracking kids use tablets, air tags etc), and Joan is awful why did actor's join writers strike? I have a theory that Tyrone is in LA. As a LA resident, I recognized the setting and came to the conclusion that Tyrone may even be a crip, not sure from what set though 🤔 but the face tats, blue flannel and palm trees gave it away to me. And idk I think the Glen may be set in Mississippi, maybe? Seeing as how Yo-Yo wanted to go to Memphis, I’d assume they are somewhere close to Memphis to take a Grey Hound or something. I’m probably also only thinking this because the actor that plays Isaac (J. Alphonse Nicholson) was also in the show P-Valley which is set in Mississippi and the setting of the Glen reminds me of that a bit 😭😭💀
Accoridng to info on the movie they say it takes place in the south but the palm trees in the movie almost seems as if it is in California, and some parts of the neighborhood in the movie remind of compton California.
@@AM-fb4pb right and if you listen closely, when Tyron wakes up you hear Big Boy on the radio (92.3) who happens to be in LA. That was my main conformation that he’s in LA
This was not a 70s to early 80s period piece. This was current day. They mentioned Blockchain, Bitcoin & Bitcoin being a scam, making it present day. Visiting some of those neighborhoods is like going back in time. I personally grew up in the Philly version of one of those places. I left at 18 & went back 20 years later to visit & it was a damn time warp. As I drove around, I noticed everyone who was still there was still doing the same shit they were doing 20 years ago & nothing changed. All of the stores & shops looked exactly the same & nothing new was built over those 20 years. The internet wasn't even a thing in that part of Philly when I went back there. The biggest change was all of the stores & shops were owned & run by Asians instead of Black Americans like they were when I left. Nobody I asked knew or cared why that was the case either. However, when I went downtown nearly everything looked totally different & brand new.
That Bikini Bottom reference and history of the real life location is mind blowing 😮 This is the first I’ve ever of it. Wow, now I have another rabbit hole to go down.
I loved the way they set it up, isn't some crazy shit that would never happens and makes no sense, the way they get dragged into it makes sense and it's on the correct pace...
Not gonna lie I flipped this on Friday night wit my girl & the first 15 mins I was trippin cuz the quality wasn’t sharp…it then hit me that it was by intention & I was on board cinematography was excellent , the use of colors , the grainy effect truly captured the essence..great movie an great casting , we were pleasantly impressed with the movie 👍🏽👍🏽
I love the methods they used to film the movie, it had a nice rough/grainy style that added to the environments perfectly. The characters meshed together well and felt believable. I like how they weren’t dumbed down like most movies try to make their characters - they each had a lot of shining moments where they really grew on me as a team that was slowly uncovering the mystery and helping eachother. I loved the movie and it definitely has replay value in my opinion.
The homeless man kinda reminded me of snowfall .. he knew the whole time but only way to get freedom is just accept it and lose your mind . Same with Franklin
This movie is great! When the 3 main characters came out of the underground thru the strip club the secret door was some lockers. The two lockers belong to Unique and Dominique. Then when the DJ is alerted to stop them he scrolls down his playlist and one of the artists was Raheem the Dream(an ATL strip club rap legend)...Who mentions in a few songs about twin freaks Unique and Dominique! Thats a deep easter egg 😂
Did anyone notice how Yoyo was the ONLY one during the car scene that DIDN'T get controlled by the commands. So was she the only one there that WASN'T a clone?🤔
It may have been weird and wacky to you because you are vastly removed from the narrative of any of the characters and environment of this instant classic movie that puts the agenda meant for so called black people,in OUR faces. While it is a cute campy movie for you,its is REALITY and a dam F...ed up one at that. For me it is a call to for massive CHANGE!!It brought tears to my eyes as i am about 99.9 percent sure it did not for you.
This was the best conspiracy, black Sci fi thriller since get out in my opinion. A little more on the nose but definitely original and enjoyable. I want more black casts and micies in this genre Like From and the Sheriff on that show
The song at the end was the cherry on top for me. I spent the entire film humming it and I said to my husband they have to use the song somewhere. So when I heard the song They cloned Tyrone it made my day.
@@smiffenwesson2281That's their point. They got the original Erykah Badu to REDO the song specifically for the movie theme. If you listen she saying CLONE TYRONE and even the lyrics are different to match the movie. That was dope as hell whoever thought to contact her to even see if she would do it.
The absence of the mom intelligently displayed emotional breakdown that creates distance between generations and causes so much distress in black communities and we must heal our generational bonds
Honestly I don’t how but from when he first time he tried to give her the sandwich I knew she wasn’t real Thought he might be imagining her great reveal of her not existing every time he was in his home I so badly wanted him open that door it’s just how could you go days only hearing a person you live with i wouldn’t be able to
This film is intended to make you look objectively into the current status or conditions of the “hood.” That’s the reason there’s no specification on what “hood” it is or where it’s at because “news flash!” They’re all laid out the same. Don’t believe me? Majority of black neighborhoods have a layout of the following things. Gas stations on most corners, liquor stores on the other corners, of course chicken spots and last but most important “churches.” I’m willing to bet in anyone on here that in they’re very city the black neighborhoods have more church homes than any other part of town. This isn’t by chance it’s a economic blueprint for poverty. Ever wonder why black neighborhoods don’t have many black own businesses? Notice on the film everyone in the “Glen” is trying to hustle just to make it. Woman of the Night, a Pimp and a Jackboy/DBoy. This is everything you already know but much like the film you don’t question why because you’re playing your role. The culture, the beliefs and way of life are all tampered to condition you… Can say more but iykyk…. Great film btw and know I didn’t make it 😂
You kinda missed the mark with spongebob…the point is that they used SpongeBob as a cartoon in subliminally program us to thing a certain way. They out it right in our face …especially the fact that Espsteins island is the address to spongebobs pineapple.
The reveal of Fontaine’s mother was huge. We can’t be complacent and predictable. We have to care enough to open the door and verify. We have to hold corporations accountable for poisoning us. The ending was not as satisfying as everything up to the town destroying the lab, but the movie is so good it doesn’t matter.
"Please pass the Tabasco"???? Oh dear boy. We don't eat Tabasco in the hood. We eat straight up Frank's Hot sauce!!! I hate going to a restaurant and asking for hot sauce and being told "I'm sorry, we don't have hot sauce. But we have Tabasco sauce" - Tobasco is no substitute for Hot Sauce!!!
Nah I'm on Houston and down here we got Hot Sauce and then we got Tabasco and everyone got their choice. So almost every restaurant (white or black) has to keep both Tobassco and then another regular hot sauce so you can pick which one you want.
Love this review! Just subscribed. Totally agree with everything. Found it so interesting in the testing labs how they showed the use of watching something (tiktok/Instagram), music control(radio) and good (whats in our products/what we're allowed to purchase) etc
This definitely was a good movie, especially if u already knew that most of the shit it was exspoing being done to so called African Americans is REAL and has been going on since slavery
I also find it interesting that the lead actor is British/Nigerian. He is "acting" like an African American stereotypical male. I wonder where he drew his references from?🤔
Remember Popeyes chicken sandwich 2-3years ago had a lot of people mainly in the hood going crazy being violent. The line inside and drive thru line was down the street long 😮 and when Popeyes ran out of chicken sandwiches all hell broke loose. There is a line of UA-cam and TikTok videos about this.
I’m glad I ran across this vid, because I haven’t seen this movie but it looks like something that I most definitely wanna check out thanks bro💯💯💯….oh yeah again don’t say “GHETTO” say “HOOD” my guy ….. PLEASE lol!🤣🤣🤣
Notice jamie character is wearing red, the woman us wearing yellow, & fontaine is wearing green. They Jaime was always hesitant character to move, the woman was slow moving, & fontaine was always on go
Actually I don’t think the titular Tyrone was a clone, he was a random guy from across the country who happened to live the exact lifestyle as the Fontaine clones. It’s a commentary on how every “hood” has a “Tyrone” in it, that round the way dude that smokes drinks, hangs, and bangs. Tyrone is a genetically black name, which tells me it’s symbolic not of the actual character, but an archetype, that almost “comes standard”with our environment. All the clone/sci if stuff was commentary/ metaphors for that
Perhaps my cultural connection gives me a different perspective, but my rating would have been 9-9.5. Between the original Blk humor and the conspiritoral aspects of the movie, I found the movie's genius so Jordan Peele-esq. Jordan Peele, being my favorite Blk sci-fi writer, personifies originality in that he manages to tap into a relatable Twilight Zone for Blk viewers. In the past, movies with black themes often are of characatures of Blk people rather than real people which I see as insulting. Up until "They Cloned Typrone," I could not have imagine anyone else who could have come up with such an authentic conceptualization of a real Blk sci-fi movie without going over the top.
But why does this remind me of two distant strangers and Joan is Awful episode of Black Mirror, the fact that theyre all on Netflix to me says NF is def tryna tell us something
This movie is almost similar to the 1974 movie "Dark Town Strutters" because in that movie they were cloning babies and the women were getting pregnant without having sex.
I would love to see a prequel of Tyrone’s story being one of the first clones I presume and how the doctor got started cloning himself. I would also like to see a sequel of Tyrone now finding out he’s a clone.
Minor detail but you stating that Fontaine means fountain or source of water makes so much sense why Frog in the beginning says “It’s in the water Youngblood” meaning he knew he was the one.
Yo dead ass I just finished watching the movie shit was different I new something was telling me Jamie Foxx character was going to end up a clone and he was I drop my fucking blunt 😂😂😂😂

Accoridng to info on the movie they say it takes place in the south but the palm trees in the movie almost seems as if it is in California, and some parts of the neighborhood in the movie remind of compton California.
@@nunugirlswag109 Tyrone is definitely in LA, the whole aura of his setting feels just like LA

Wow this reminded me of undercover brother and the Popeyes chicken sandwiches when people were really fighting people over these sandwiches. True❤
Ahhh man, I completely forgot about how eager everyone was for those sandwiches!
Ratio
I love the methods they used to film the movie, it had a nice rough/grainy style that added to the environments perfectly.
The characters meshed together well and felt believable. I like how they weren’t dumbed down like most movies try to make their characters - they each had a lot of shining moments where they really grew on me as a team that was slowly uncovering the mystery and helping eachother.
I loved the movie and it definitely has replay value in my opinion.
Great film, With someone who has locs but has used relaxers for so many years, it hit home.... defo things hidden in plain sight!
Low key was happy as heck, when Yo-Yo tricked them in the end with her Afro!! She smart!!
The homeless man kinda reminded me of snowfall .. he knew the whole time but only way to get freedom is just accept it and lose your mind . Same with Franklin
This film is a Masterpiece 10/10
This movie to the 2020s will be what, They Live was to the 80s!
Or Repo Man.
Good movie. I'm always amazed by British actors playing U.S. black people flawlessly.
Why do you think the projects are called.... well, the PROJECTs. We've been an experiment for a long time.
That chicken scene reminded me of that Popeyes Chicken sandwich. People were acting silly as fuck behind that sandwich.
and it was overhyped lol
One has to be blind asf or guilty of their own prejudice to miss anything . This movie was spot on with everything we've seen throughout the years etc
If the movies Undercover Brother and Groundhog Day had a child, out would pop They Cloned Tyrone. Very enjoyable movie, quite a nice surprise!
Yeah yeah, solid mixture for a great movie
Did anyone notice how Yoyo was the ONLY one during the car scene that DIDN'T get controlled by the commands. So was she the only one there that WASN'T a clone?🤔
Yup.
Loved it all! Crazy this could be a true story disguised as science fiction 👀
I want more black casts and micies in this genre
Like From and the Sheriff on that show
It’s like they make movies and people think everything’s fake because it is a movie. Ideas come from somewhere.
Art imitates life
The beginning art shows you, "the white man will put it right in your face & smile.
I did not catch the SpongeBob Easter egg and the Rodney king one either THANK YOU

And more
The song at the end was the cherry on top for me. I spent the entire film humming it and I said to my husband they have to use the song somewhere. So when I heard the song They cloned Tyrone it made my day.
That song came out in the late '90s maybe early 2000s is called you better call Tyrone from Erykah Badu
@ArrogantGoddess u paid more attention to me, when it got to the end I tuned out when the song played
Honestly I don’t how but from when he first time he tried to give her the sandwich I knew she wasn’t real Thought he might be imagining her great reveal of her not existing every time he was in his home I so badly wanted him open that door it’s just how could you go days only hearing a person you live with i wouldn’t be able to
That's only because he's been cloned, he only remembers seeing her because he's programmed. It's a continuous simulation for him.
I completely did not pick up on that point about MJ
great catch!
The culture, the beliefs and way of life are all tampered to condition you…
Can say more but iykyk….
Feels Like A Jordan Peele Film.. Really Good!
definitely feels like his style of work
The reveal of Fontaine’s mother was huge.
😂😂 I have failed the comments sections
Nah I'm on Houston and down here we got Hot Sauce and then we got Tabasco and everyone got their choice. So almost every restaurant (white or black) has to keep both Tobassco and then another regular hot sauce so you can pick which one you want.
Black Dynamite, Us, Sorry To Bother You, and Atlanta had a 4-way clone.
No doubt, lots of similar elements
It’s just something about the word used to control the clones that really stuck out
Good point that could be an Easter egg to search and research on its meaning or if it was a historical event or place
Love this review! Just subscribed. Totally agree with everything. Found it so interesting in the testing labs how they showed the use of watching something (tiktok/Instagram), music control(radio) and good (whats in our products/what we're allowed to purchase) etc
Cool little Easter egg, but at the end when Tyrone comes out of the store, on the wall you can see an anaconda malt liquor poster from black dynamite
Ahhh nice spot!
Loved this fresh cinematic view, with great acting by the whole cast and superb direction. The pop-culture and political references were very funny.
The vibe of the whole film was very legit , like the weirdest of it keep you in it! the characters being so 4th wall with it .
Old Fontaine is a reference to Yakub (NOI)
I looked this up, and dang. Kicking myself for missing this
I just told my daughter this reminds me of Yakub. This gonna be a classic movie
Thank you.

This definitely was a good movie, especially if u already knew that most of the shit it was exspoing being done to so called African Americans is REAL and has been going on since slavery
I also find it interesting that the lead actor is British/Nigerian. He is "acting" like an African American stereotypical male. I wonder where he drew his references from?🤔
Rodney king middle name was Glenn
Ohhhhh shiiiiiittttt. GREAT catch
Love the original ideas of movies coming to life.
The West Coast Tyrone Dress Way Better Then Atlanta Tyrone 😂😂😂😂 Sounded Just Like Uncle Jerome. This Movie Gave Me “Boondocks” Vibes💀
Haha no doubt 😂
Notice jamie character is wearing red, the woman us wearing yellow, & fontaine is wearing green. They Jaime was always hesitant character to move, the woman was slow moving, & fontaine was always on go
Lmao U thinking too deep
this movie is incredible. it reminds me of a 21st century They Live where true reality is exposed...more of a documentary in sci fi form.
This is a great comparison
Man after jamie got sick it makes since
Brilliantly done...A "Stay Woke" Production💯😉✊🏾

They need sequels for every demographic... they cloned Billy Bob, who is the first Juan?, There are MultiPatels, etc. 😅
As a black dude, I've never seen undercover brother
But i did see this..... And it was Great
It's a great movie but it's more of a comedy.
I would love to see a prequel of Tyrone’s story being one of the first clones I presume and how the doctor got started cloning himself. I would also like to see a sequel of Tyrone now finding out he’s a clone.
Does any one know the name of the song that starts to play as fontaine limps out after getting the og killed

Just watched it an typically we all can pick up quick on what and why something is happening in a movie but truthfully this one STUMPED ME 😂😂 I was utterly confused, engaged, lost, highly interested the whole entire time 😂
By far one the best movies on Netflix it is a must see. It's exactly like content creator said it's nothing like what you would expect. Imagine hood movies, sci-fi movies, comedy movies and mystery movies came together and had a baby 😂 this is what you get. The creators did a spectacular job making this movie it's well put together and I'm sure will become if not already an instant classic. Also to the content creator I really enjoyed watching this video I'll like and subscribe thank you so much💪🏾❤️
