The US funds them, arms them and even trains them, now we want to fight them 🤯 Sounds like something we've heard before in the past. As long as a billion dollar demand exists there will always be someone somewhere who will provide, the only real option is to stop what fuels them.

If we do take on the Cartels. Are we going to build COPs and FOBs like Iraq? Will we have The 1st CAV and other Army Marine Units deployed to do local patrols of Villages, Coties and towns, while the Seals, Delta, and Rangers attack Cartel Targets?

    • @xrbperformance4290

Follow the money, the US spends around $360 Billons on drugs yearly, every single dollar the cartel has started in the hands of a drug user in the US, and those users are directly responsible for financing the drug market, every dollar they choose to invest literally makes them an accessory to murder, so a zero tolerance policy and sever sentences will undoubtedly deter most users and prevent stubborn offenders from buying again. Truth is, as long as a demand this big exists there will ALWAYS be someone somewhere willing to supply it, over 40 years fighting the the War on Drugs have taught us this. No demand, no supply.

I agree. We have to look at to what has happened and what is happening in Mexico. We have to look at the "War on Drugs" and why it did not succeed. Do we want our country to turn into Mexico? The hard thing about this is potential actions of terrorism happening in the US. Wasn't that exactly what our security posture during GWOT successfully countered? I think action needs to happen; American lives have already been lost due to inaction, and more will continue to die.

The US needs to fix itself first. American society has deteriorated with all the drug users and mass shootings. The US is going to do things the most inefficient and complicated way, as always, such that there will be troops fighting the cartels while those troops' relatives or neighbors consume drugs from Mexico.
And in the end, probably $100 of billions wasted, troops with PTSD who will be ignored, refugees from Mexico coming into the US due to the destabilization, and an even stronger battle hardened cartels will rise.
Look at Afghanistan. Trillions wasted, 20 years of war, and we left the Taliban a battle hardened and experienced organization with lots of modern military gear.

I disagree with what you guys are saying.
I worked close to the border as a deputy and police officer in az and I can tell you the damage and nightmare of continuing to not deal with with this problem is far more destructive to Americans and the country, then to continue with what we're doing.
If there was any military action in the last 50 years that would be justified, this is it.
We are already at war guys. You have a nation doing nothing, instead, many times aiding armed militants and insurgents crossing our border with weapons, slaves and poison and intentionally killing Americans.
I know you're concerned about what it could spiral into,
But hundreds of thousands of Americans are dying and will continue to do so.
Comparing this to Afghanistan and Iraq is false logic.
    This is nothing like that.
The motivation for the cartel is profit, plain and simple.
    It is NOT ideology.
You cannot compare jihadists who are devout in their religion and have a ideological idealistic push to do what they do, and compare that to people who are motivated only by money.
Money, does you no good if you're dead.
If the cartels are being heavily targeted, there's a little motivation to join a suicide pact for money, they'll never get to spend.

I think the biggest fear about labeling cartel organizations as terrorists is more about protecting rich businessmen and politicians on both sides of the border that have ties with the cartels. If they would be found guilty of working with these organizations they would now be charged with crimes related to terrorism. And we all now many politicians and rich businessmen aid and fund these crime organizations.

@@slayermill8621 bingo. These 3 letter agencies have MASSIVE budgets. If they actually do what they are supposed to do, then crime falls and so do their budgets.
Example: the FBI was given a massive budget increase after 9/11. Well...they smoked out the terrorists and could no longer justify their budget.
Well...they aren't going to just watch all of that money and power disappear, so they started to "create" new terrorists. This is why they keep expanding the definition of a terrorist and have turned on the American Citizens.
They have to create a threat to "fight".
I don't know how many, but several mass shooters were groomed and encouraged by federal agents online.
I even know of one case where undercover agents talked two brothers into robbing a bank. These guys had no intention of robbing a bank until they were given the plans, guns, and even a ride to the bank by these agents.
The feds freaking served as the getaway drivers! They talked these guys into robbing a bank. They helped them rob the bank. And then they arrested them for robbing the bank! You can't make this sh*t up.

The facts are there all you need to do is research, for starters operation fast and furious for the US-Mexican connection, The School Of Americas has been documented as well, which by the way a lot of dictators have graduated from, As for the possible formation of Los Zetas there’s many stories about how they were originally formed but they were a security force for a cartel that they later left. And the other country special forces being in the cartel have been verified by cartel members, journalists, and army personnel. So either your lying that you were in the Mexican army or you just don’t know the truth which is also a possibility seeing how corrupt things are.

@@victorygarden556 If the US wants to curb human trafficking they need to invest in the root causes for the emigration from their home countries. As they said a multi-tool would be needed to solve this crisis. Most likely legalizing drug use and moving production of these substances into the US would be the best bet. Legalized production under regulations and taxes would completely remove the need for drug smuggling routes which are currently conveniently effective for human trafficking side hustles for these cartels. Additionally, it will remove demand for drug manufacturing away from central and southern American countries, this would in turn reduce the footprint of cartels there and therefore make it safer for potential emigrants to stay in their countries instead of going to the US.

Good discussion. The size of this problem has blown up in every direction.
Not only is the Mexican government corrupt, our own government is as well.
We all know that cartels have bought influence in state and local governments and the legal profession.
Then to think of, let’s say 2% of the 10,000,000 illegals are soldiers, that’s 200,000 men!
We could have anarchy the likes of which we’ve never seen.

You guys went into this discussion from well-informed positions. I agree very much with the positions you’ve presented. Figure out a way to include former Sec State Mike Pompeo in a future round table on this subject. THE FIRST THING WE NEED TO GET IS GET OUR OWN HOUSE BACK IN ORDER. Corruption in Mexico is, indeed, an issue, but we’ve got our own. I think an “Edward Landsdale” approach would be a good place to start with Mexico, however, along with the offer of applications LTC H. John Poole (Tequila Junction) recommended in terms of strategy and tactics. The big issue to overcome is that the Mexican people, when stirred up by politicians who really don’t care for anything but their vote, will have major problems with US troops on their soil. It ultimately might not hurt to, at least, in theory to have a big stick in the closet if certain governments continue to choose to be ineffective, but US boots on the ground should be a last resort. When Mexican citizens realize they’re free to enjoy Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness and cartel members and other criminals realize they are not, then things might change for the better.
