@@IndependentLogos I live in Boston but you can't count metro areas because they are their own cities such as Quincy, Revere, Malden, Medford, etc. Boston as a city has a population of close to 700,000 but on work days it does grow to over 1 million because many people commute due to the high cost of living. For example a 3 bedroom apt in Boston will cost you 4k a month. If you travel South to 45 minutes to New Bedford same apartment will cost you $1k
In some places, you even have unincorporated areas becoming minimalist cities to prevent larger nearby cities from annexing them and charging the residents higher taxes.
There’s a big difference between city population and metro population. Boston has a small population because the city boundaries are small. But if you count the metro population it’s 4.9 million - much bigger than Jacksonville. Jacksonville has a large population because it annexed most of the surrounding communities into its city boundaries. The metro population of Jacksonville isn’t much bigger than its city population (1.7 million vs 950,000)
Yeah. I grew up in central FL. Everyone says Orlando even though you really live in a suburb. Very few people live in Orlando (approx 300k). The greater area is 2.6 million.
Yesss!!! Please come to Michigan!! I'd say the west side of the state next to Lake Michigan is beautiful..and definitely the upper peninsula!! I'd say come close to me but I live at most 15 mins from Detroit lol..and I know how people feel about that, I'd still like to be your free but lovely tour guide!!
Actually, Sioux Falls is on the other side of South Dakota from Mt. Rushmore. Sioux Falls is more than 5 hours away by car, and it's closer to Minneapolis, Minnesota and Omaha, Nebraska, than to Mt. Rushmore.
Jacksonville has such a high pop because the city is the size of a county. Miami only has a pop of like 400k but the metro that covers 3-4 counties is 6mil
Daz if you come to Michigan you should check out Grand Rapids and traverse city, also there’s a lot of great towns on the way up from Grand Rapids to traverse city if you drive the Lake Michigan coast.
If you visit Nashville, you should also drive down to Chattanooga, but take the backroads (US Hwy 70S from Murfreesboro to McMinnville [stop at C&K Donuts if they’re open], TN 8 to TN 111 south, and then TN 111 to US Hwy 27 [not to be confused with US Hwy 127, unless you want to visit Lodge Cast Iron in South Pittsburgh].
I’ve watched several of the challenge videos. Keep the buzzers, but each buzzer should have a distinctive sound. One sound specific to Gaynor, the other to Daz and you’ll know instantly who tapped in first.
I enjoy watching ur videos. Keep them coming. FYI, Sioux Falls is no where near Mount Rushmore. Rapid City South Dakota is the closest city to Mount Rushmore. Sioux Falls is on the other side of the state.
Boston was founded 1630ish, right after Plymouth with other towns right nearby founded not long after, so it’s boundaries are very close in. Metro area is usually stated as 2.5m or there about.
Although the northeast is the most densely populated area of the US, a lot of the cities there are small as far as the official city limits go. Lots of people live in unincorporated areas or suburbs that are cities in their own right (like Cambridge, Mass right next to Boston). In the olden days, cities were closer together because it took longer to travel. As you go west, cities are further apart. This is why Salt Lake is so small at 200K, even though the metro is over a million. Same with Denver, which is only 730K but the metro area (CSA) is around 3 million.
Daz is on fire. Sioux Falls' population is high, because of the strippers. 😆 If you and G ever come see Cara, my husband and I would be pleased to show you around Lexington. We welcome your friend to Kentucky!
I was born and raised in SE Massachusetts and many people insist Boston is over a million that's because they count other cities in the metropolitan area. However that's understandable because the borders overlap. Example there are streets in Charlestown that 2 buildings next to each other ones in Charlestown and one in Boston
Yeah these numbers are just the central city population numbers, not the metro area of the city which is like 10 times the number of that very small area, also at the very end you said you'd like to visit Wisconsin, Daz you would have a blast going to a Badgers football game at Halloween time which is the best party in Madison with bars everywhere
Daz, when you lived in NJ, you were part of the NYC metropolitan area. That is not counted in the NYC proper population. It is the suburbs that brings the metropolitan area totals up.
Most people in big cities live in the suburbs which are other cities connected to the main city. So That's why we use metropolitan areas to determine how big a city is rather than the actual city's population. Atlanta is a great example because the city is about 500k people but the metro population is about 6 million
With each video, I say, “this is y’all’s best.” Darren is feisty like me; but Office Lass Gaynor is my spirit animal. Keep up the excellence, sis 💃🏼. I’m SO here for this video. I adore y’all. Your knowledge of our country (I know you lived here, but still ….), is impressive. You make me ashamed for not having a better grasp of the UK. At some point we need to share some cocktails and love. Big fat hug to you both 😊! Sidenote … *HOUSTON* loves you.
I'm admittedly pausing in the middle but it's driving me crazy there's no clarification between metropolitan population and actual city population. It's a pretty important distinction. Maybe London is all one city, but I'd guess it's the same as the US where London is small relative to the London metro population. Lol I've seen UK UA-camrs react to populations of US cities and they were like "I didn't realize London is bigger than New York..."
Major cities' physical limits vary in physical size wildly from small (Miami, Boston, San Francisco)) to really huge (Jacksonville, Houston, Oklahoma City), and they alone don't tell the real story of how many live in their metros. . For example: There are only about 450,000 in Miami proper but 6 million in the metro area.
Detroit actually peaked in 1948 with an estimated population of 2.1 million and 2.2 million if its 2 enclaves of Highland Park and Hamtramck was included. Making it briefly the 3rd largest in the U.S..
Here's some helpful size numbers that explain why some populations seem off. (Numbers are Sq. Miles and land only). Boston: 48 Jacksonville: 747 Miami: 36 Phoenix: 518 New York: 300 Houston: 640 Atlanta: 135 (This one is weird. A lot of Atlanta's population is in unincorporated areas outside city limits) New Orleans: 169 (It's also been losing population since before Katrina, although Katrina did not help)
When it comes to the US, one thing you need to remember about large cities is Americans love to live in the suburbs. So a cities population might be smaller by numbers while it's metro area will be massive.
Let's see how many likes I can get for my birthday. Also, OB Daz, not only do u have people moving to Phoenix back in the day because it was cheap and new but also they have an NFL franchise in the city and an NBA and MLB team near by so naturally attraction would be higher. This may be a cheat code for future video about city population because of franchises. So if it is I am sorry lol
No, I'm afraid that Sioux Falls, SD isn't the home of Mt. Rushmore. Mt. Rushmore is on the other side of the state, & is near the city of Keystone, SD.
Blokes, and family of blokes. It might be Boston Proper that these numbers are based on. They aren't considered the 'suburbs,' so to speak. Hardly anyone will say, 'I'm from Johnnytown' if they're in the suburbs of Boston. Most people consider it Boston metropolitan area
Daz continues to impress and embarrass me. I'm so impressed by understanding and recollection of not just the names of these cities but how accurately he guessed the populations. And, I feel truly embarrassed that he continues to outscore me on all of these US challenges. I'm a 61 year old American from San Diego. I salute you Daz. You would probably beat most Americans at this game. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I'm really enjoying you and G. Hope this channel grows to rival OBR.😀😀😀😀😀
Boston population in 2022 is estimated to be 693,417, and area is 89.62 sq miles (232.11 sq.km) and the 21st most populous city in the United States. This is for Boston proper, not Boston’s metropolitan area. In 2021, the population of the Boston-Cambridge-Newton metropolitan area in the United States was about 4.9 million people. This is the same as last year's population, which was also about 4.94 million people.Sep 30, 2022
Wow I feel old that they didn’t know happy days that was my childhood right there aye shout out from the Rosebud Indian reservation in South Dakota. You are right that strippers and the junkies live in Sioux Falls😂
Most people don't realize that most well-known cities in the US are not that large by world standards. Most are under 1 million. New York city has more than 8 million, and that's the largest city in the US. The second largest city, Los Angeles, drops down to about 4 million. The third largest, Chicago, is less than 3 million, as is Houston, the fourth largest. Cities like San Francisco, Boston, Seattle, Washington DC, all less than 1 million.
City population is just the population within city limits. A more meaningful number is the metropolitan population. That's the true measure of a city's size.
You have to realize that these populations are the population of inside city limits. If you look at the population of the entire metro of each of these cities is going to be a lot higher. Denver for instance is about 800,000, but the whole Metro area is around 3.3 million. So Boston probably has a way higher population because the city limits aren't all that big. More people live in the suburbs then in the city limits.
Populations of the cities seem smaller here cause the metro isn't being counted. City-limits of a lot of these cities are surprisingly small
Boston & Atlanta are 5m each, Chicago is 11m, Houston 7m
Yeah fr, Detroit has a pop of 632,000 while metro Detroit has 4.3 million

Exactly. Just like the Miami metro area is nearly 6.5 million. Jacksonville doesn't even compare
Absolutely but the metro are is made up of different cities. So the answers to these questions are not based on metro but each individual city.
Yeah. I grew up in central FL. Everyone says Orlando even though you really live in a suburb. Very few people live in Orlando (approx 300k). The greater area is 2.6 million.
