    This would definitely get a favorite point from me if I found something like this. One of my favorites was called Another Micro In The Woods, the size was "Not Selected", and the background of the cache page was a bunch of film cans. The cache itself was a plastic 10 gallon garbage can covered by a blanket. I made the find on that one 15 years ago.

      That would be awesome to find!

    Awesome to see you back. Dad is a natural geocacher. You will have to take him to an event. He will love it.

      I think he is good at geocaching too no matter what he believes. I wonder if he has gone to an event yet. If not, I should take him to one.

    Nice day out geocaching with Dad and Percy. I have found 3 or 4 microwaves in the woods used as geocaches before. One of them was a wherigo where the cartridge made you wait 10 minutes before giving you the coords to the final spot where the container was hidden inside a microwave. These kinds of caches are always favorite point worthy in my opinion.

    • @Stardustzzz
      @Stardustzzz  9 місяців тому

      that is awesome that you have found that many microwaves. I have been waiting for the day I found one. They are a unique container and that is what I enjoy about them. I am not sure I ever did a whereigo. I should probably look into doing one of those.

    It's always fun finding caches like the micro in the woods. For a while we had a blender, a phone, a piano, yes a piano, a handheld vacuum, all in the woors. Only the piano was not cammo taped 😊

    • @Stardustzzz
      @Stardustzzz  9 місяців тому

      nice, it seems like people are trying to mix it up in the area you geocache. a piano...wow that is definitely different but awesome.

    mostly we don't read the activity logs before we head out, we find a lot of caches the others did not, we like to hike so we tend to look for caches that are way off the beaten path, some several miles from parking!, we are seniors that are new to geocaching, coming up on two years in March, today we past 650 finds, we've done earth caches, multi caches and event caches. We also like the Adventure Labs, they are a lot of fun

      That is awesome! Congrats on all those finds. I like the ones you have to hike for also. I enjoy the adventure the hobby takes me on. Keep up the great work on finding those caches!

    Good to see you are still going out there. I do like to read the clues before I go. Once I get out there, I'll look for a second one that might be close and then I don't often look to see if it's been found.

    It's great to see another geocaching video from you. It warms my heart to see you and your dad out geocaching. You guys are truly blessed to be able to share memorable times together. I would give anything to have the opportunity to spend more time with my dad. He passed away before geocaching existed, but I know he would've loved it. I'm looking forward to watching you guys collecting more smileys in the future.

      @Stardustzzz  9 місяців тому +2

      Thank you. Ya it was rough not being able to do this hobby with him while I was in Georgia. Now we can spend more time together doing this. It is good for both of us to get outdoors and explore. Sorry to hear about your dad. Hopefully he is with you in spirit and helping you out with any of those tricky hides :)

    It ain't PA woods unless you hear some gunfire! I usually 90% "look ahead," as it were, for the reasons you described, like needing a TOTT. However, there is fun in the discovery, fun in not knowing what you are going to get in to. Of course, it is not fun to drive out an hour or two only to realize you need a USB battery pack or 9v battery that you don't have with you.

    • @Stardustzzz
      @Stardustzzz  9 місяців тому

      lol did that actually happen to you with the battery? That is a good point. I normally look ahead if i am going to make a long drive for a cache. I need to look up hunting seasons here. The gun fire scares me and I dont know where all the hunting areas are. It was probably just some rednecks shooting targets though.

    Great to see a new video! I have not found a micro in the woods yet but maybe I will someday. Outside of the monthly geochallenges, I don't plan out my geocaches much. I am trying to do it more. Like your Dad, that seems how I typically find a bison in a tree. Look look look look look and turn around to find it right in my face where I just looked. Usually it takes me longer.

    • @Stardustzzz
      @Stardustzzz  9 місяців тому +1

      ya definitely need to plan out the geochallenge caches to meet the goal . i cannot believe he found that bison. i am glad i got that one recorded. it was neat to see him stumble upon it so fast.

    It's nice to see Percy and your dad out geocaching.
    I belong to the group of geocachers who prefer finding geocaches and signing logs above LOOKING for geocaches. My normal weekly geocaching routine is to pick an area and use GSAK to load geocaches filtering for T-2/D3 or less. I look for DNFs, read the logs, and delete the ones that would lead me to believe they are missing. Not all DNFs are created equal. Thanks for asking.
    I love that the CO took the extra effort to put on cammo and mount the microwave.
    Congratulations on getting your first Micro in the Woods.
    If you had a spare log, would you have replaced the log? What would you do with the old log?
    With the number of active geocaches I own, I depend on people to log their DNFs or submit an Owner Attention Requested log to document when my caches need maintenance. Last year, GCHQ had 100 geocachers look for the twenty geocaches closest to their homes and report if they were missing or needed maintenance. Statistically, the sample would yield over 98% accuracy. The survey revealed that 20% of the geocaches were missing or needed maintenance. GCHQ has given us three tools; we should use them to improve the game board.
    I am looking forward to your next video.

    • @Stardustzzz
      @Stardustzzz  9 місяців тому

      I agree! Not all DNFs are created equal.
      Good question about the log. Depends on the cache and the size. If there is room in the cache to keep the old log in there, i will leave it and add a new log. If the cache doesn't have room for both, i will take the old log with me but inform the cache owner that i have the old log sheet and if they want it, I would be happy to give it to them. I have learned some cache owners like to hold onto their log sheets for various reasons.
      I didn't know GCHQ did that. That is neat that ran that test. I guess I missed out while i was away. I agree we should use those tools. I plan on making some more tips videos or don't be that geocacher videos. Even though the DBTG video tends to have fun there are still helpful tips there too.

    After watching the update video, I am so glad to see you actively geocaching and really like that you were out with your Dad. For the past 3 years, I have been taking my Mother along on the geocaching trail. Parents are the best (as well as pets).
    I haven't found a microwave in the woods but I have found a Flintstone's themed cache in the woods that was named Dino's Poo (I'll just leave that to the imagination).
    I hope you don't write off PA too quickly. It's really not that bad around these parts. I am across the border over here in OH. Maybe I'll have the chance to cross paths sometime.
    I am getting prepared to attend a great Mega event over here in a couple of weeks (Midwest Geobash) and next year's GeoWoodstock is in West by golly Virginia so that'll be a must as well. Keep smiling and cache on!

      @Stardustzzz  4 місяці тому +1

      That Flintstones cache sounds awesome and creative. I hope to get out there geocaching with my dad some more while I am in PA. There are some great places we can travel to find geocaches while I am here. I hope you have fun at those geocaching events. I got to go to a GeoWoodstock. It was great. Lots to do.

    Your dad is fun!!! I'm so glad ya'll went together. ☺️
    I like to just go. If I can't find it I check the DT. Then evaluate if I need to look differently.... then look at the hint. Then if I can't find it I look at logs..... 👌😎👌

    I am all over the place... when there is a bunch of snow on the ground, I will check to see that is has been found. I will check how new the cacher is for DNFs...
    That is some nice camo on that micro!

      Since moving back to PA, I have been thinking about hiding some caches. I have to think differently now because of the snow and I want to be sure they are also winter friendly. I wonder if many even check the attributes before going to find a cache. i usually just check if I can take my dog lol

    Great video and so happy to see you and you’re dad out Geocaching and of course Percy! As for DNF by other Geocachers , it depends on how many there are, and sometimes if it’s a difficult find, I’ll still go look for it because I like that challenge. Keep those videos coming.

    • @Stardustzzz
      @Stardustzzz  9 місяців тому +1

      nice! I am glad you are up for a challenge. It has to be a good feeling when you find a cache that others were struggling with, assuming it is still there.

  • @adairmd

    I’ve found one micro in the woods. I always look to see if a cache has been found recently, and if it has dnf’s, I always look to see how many caches they have found.

    • @Stardustzzz
      @Stardustzzz  3 місяці тому +1

      I think that is a good strategy!

  • @direwolf8213

    I'm curious if you ever let Percy off leash when geocaching in the woods. I've done that a few times with my dog, and she doesn't go too far away, but if she gets farther away then I like, I call to her and she comes right back. I have an old defunct microwave that I plan on putting in the woods someday as well. Fun find.

    • @Stardustzzz
      @Stardustzzz  8 місяців тому

      i haven't really taken him off leash. I tried in a few fenced in areas. Some days he is fine then other days squirrels are way too exciting and he doesn't listen to me at all. That would be neat if you hid the microwave. I hope you get a lot of favorite points!

  • @mat-ventures

    I often check if the cache has many DNF before trying to find it myself

    • @Stardustzzz
      @Stardustzzz  9 місяців тому +1

      would you still take a look for the cache depending on the number of DNFs it has or the people that marked it as a DNF? for example if they have less than 10 finds and put DNF would you still attempt to find it or pass it for another geocache?

    • @mat-ventures
      @mat-ventures 9 місяців тому

      Yes @Stardustzzz the value of the DNF is relative to the number of finds of the geocacher who logged it, for sure. So a DNF from 10-finder is less relevant than a DNF from a 5k-finder

  • @tubednhooked

      Ok well being close to family seems to help you a lot and you sure smile more often in that video than on previous ones (excluding the one where you talked about yourself). I know you said you didn't want to stay in this state, but is it that bad of a state to be in? (I honestly don't know, I'm just a French-speaking guy from Québec ;) )
