Great video. you should probably mention that you can’t use this method for inserting a lifeline if you’re using closed stitch markers because they’ll get permanently caught in the lifeline itself. In this case just thread the lifeline in with a needle instead. Also if you’re working on a lace project, always add a lifeline on the purl side so you won’t lose any yarn over by mistake.
Thank you so much! I'm working on a simple lace pattern using many many closed stitch markers. Dister averted thanks to you!
I use Dental Floss because its strong and it works. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
This is great for beginning of repeats too. Thank you for this! Finally a video on how to actually do this haha. Thanks for doing the hard work for the rest of us! 💕 😊
Thank you so much! My interchangeable needles also have this feature, but no instructions - only says you can, but not how. Your video is exactly what I was looking for.
I've been knitting for a year and only learned about this last week. I had no idea that hole could be used for threading a lifeline. Thanks for demonstrating how.
So glad I could help!
I have used interchangeable needles for decades. Never ever thought to put a lifeline in by using the needles themselves. How awesome. See at almost 63 I am never to old to learn.
Thank you.
Wow! Never thought of that. Thank you!!!!
New knitter that has been struggling to add this ‘lifeline’ thanks for the explanation!
thank you for this!
Yay!!!! This is brilliant, I hate taking the time to put in a lifeline so being able to do it passively is ingenious! Thank you!!!
I always put in lifelines after completing a section like a collar, before a sleeve slip, after a lace section, etc. It really is a lifesaver!
OMG! I have been knitting for years and didn't know this! What a game changer! Thank you 😃
Finally found what I was looking for. I will be sharing this for sure. Thank you
Great - so glad it was helpful!
Wow, very informative. I'd never heard of a lifeline.
This is wonderful! Thanks so much for the tutorial. Putting in a lifeline has always felt so tedious, but I always regret not putting one in on the complicated projects. This makes it effortless. I'm trying to learn brioche knitting, and mistakes can be hard to fix for a beginner. This will be a lifesaver!
Thanks, I need to know about lifelines, and using the hole in the needle is very cool. I recently had to rip out a piece of my knitting and it really bothered me to the point I wonder if I can even enjoy knitting any more. This definitely will help with that!
Thanks for this - very helpful. I should get into the habit of adding lifelines so it would not be too daunting when I have to rip back. Sure, most people don't like to re-knit their work, but I dislike picking up live stitches especially when using dark/fuzzy yarn. This solves that problem.
Thank you for this video!!!
I'm finally using my ChiaoGoo set from last Christmas to make my first sweater in the round. I had no idea about this (wish I knew before I had to frog it and start over). Thanks so much for your video 👏
Thank you SO much! I've been searching for an easier lifeline for long pieces!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I have been looking for the answer to this question! You provided very clear & easy to understand instructions. Again, thank you 👍
(I don’t know if it’s the same with other brands, but this lifeline hole is also on KnitPro (aka Knitter’s Pride) interchangeable needles!)
Thank you for this great video. I wish I had seen it 3 days ago 😜😂 I just had to rip out a few inches of twisty knitting.
Oh no - sorry to hear that. I’m glad you found it helpful!
A few years in and I'm also just learning about this. Seriously, thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! It is so straightforward and to the point. I deeply appreciate you making it.
You’re welcome!
Thank you!
I've used a darning needle for mine because I wasn't certain how to do this. (I just got interchangeable needles for Christmas.) I've been using old fishing line (still on the spool, but no longer useable for fishing). It's small enough that it doesn't interfere with my stitches, it's still visible (although just slightly) and it's super easy to take back out. :) Thanks for a wonderful video on how to do this! :)
Thanks for taking the time to make this helpful video, much appreciated. Happy knitting.
Hi Allen, thank you for this valuable information and instructions. I recently received a set of HiyaHiya with the lifeline hole but no instruction on how to use it.
Omg 😮! I wondered what those holes were! I just figured it was a mold making hole. THANK YOU fir this video! 🎉👏🏼👏🏼💞
They are also used to tighten up the cables to the needles. Unless this is done, you're asking to loose stitches when the needles become unscrewed...and it does happen if you hold the needles the way I do! It didn't when I first started, and I'm not sure what changed, but they'll come unscrewed together, loosing ALL my stitches! HTH
Thanks Allen! I have to do a brioche ribbing on my Letho cardigan. It will make about 4 feet long. So the lifeline in the hole is, for me, just essential!
Thank you! I will be using this
Awesome…thank you!!
Thankyou so much!
Amazing! Can't believe I've only just learned this. Thank you so much for sharing 😊
Fascinating. So simple yet so saving! Love it.
Thanks!
Thank you for doing this video! It is exactly what I was looking for.
So glad it helped!
Thank you for sharing this ❤
Smart! Thank you!
Great video, thanks!
❤❤❤ Great tutorial! Many thanks!
Excellent , just what I was looking for 😊
Thank you so much! I will definitely use this from now on!
Instead of tying the NDA together at the end, I thread each end through a #6 bead, with slack.
Thanks!! I was totally wondering how to do it!!
Brilliant
Any tips on how to keep from knitting lifeline on the next row after you insert it? I can’t keep from knitting it into my row along with the yarn.
Knitpicks needles have that hole as well.
I've not used this method because I can't figure out what to do with the stitch markers. What would you do?
Great question - when placing a lifeline, I use stitch markers that clip on (see examples here amzn.to/3IympOU) so I can move them as needed without the lifeline interfering.
I use lockable SM, then I simply unlock when I come to them the row after the lifeline row - and move them back onto my needles!
I am knitting 1X1 ribbing in magic loop and tried this technique but something went terribly wrong! Help?
Y’all if I didn’t have one Hot mess . I’m working on a sleeve on my sweater. I did like 8 rows and realized I wasn’t doing a C2F correctly. So as y’all know on a sleeve it’s shape is different than just going around you work normally. Will I put a life line in and started at the left side of the add on stitches and worked my way around. Well I pulled my needles out and started frogging. Y’all I down have a clue what in the Sam Hill happened but on both sides of my under arm about 5 to 8 stitches up from the add on I had stitches coming out that I have no idea how they did what they did , y’all they was rows going in different directions from the rest .. All I can say is I got it back together the best I could with out ripping the hole sweater out . I’ve got like 2 or 3 holes in that area that when I’m done with the sleeves I will try to fix from the inside. So you can cool best believe I will be installing a life line just like this when I start the other sleeve. The C2F was only in the sleeves and a chain cable and I had the directions for the chain but not the C2F . As a matter of fact I had no idea what it was called tell I finally found the video that I got it from . So we see if my Hot Mess becomes unnoticeable when I’m done .
How would you add the lifeline if you only have the fixed needles, ( is that what they're called?), not the interchangeable ones?
I’ll have to add a video for this soon. I would take a darning needle with a contrasting color of yarn and run it through all stitches on your circular needles then tie it off and continue knitting.
@@doalong Thank you. I'll try that.
Be careful not to thread your lifeline through any stitch markers, like I just did.
I cant believe it isnt obvious to anyone SMH.
This tip is BRILLIANT! Thank you so much for demonstrating!
