This kit looks amazing Ben, I'm super excited for this one when you get to it. I recently purchased a couple of wooden ship kits from OcCre and will have to check into Vanguard Models now as well. Thanks for sharing and see you in the next one!
I have not forgotten about the Smith. Yes I will show more, I’m not sure when yet. I am going to finish my clients Titanic and then take a break for a shop renovation (should happen quick) then maybe work on Smith for a minute before getting back into my Titanic build.
Ben, I have no problem with having to become a Patreon in order to watch Duchess of Kingston build and will! It looks like a great kit and am thinking of building it myself. I am a little worried about some of the detail painting but what a great kit!
Thanks John! I’ll probably do a “finished” video for regular UA-camrs. I’m just trying to do something for people who are on Patreon. I’m not sure why some folks don’t understand that.
been wanted to do a wooden ship kit for some time. Been trying to find a good wooden USS constitution kit. Was attempting to build the 1/96th revell kit for 10 years now but its my unicorn kit.... i cant bring up the courage to finish it.
Chris has done some very simple fishing ships that are designed as beginner kits with file guides marked into the bulkheads to help you shape them and learn the techniques. He also designed most of the kits for Amati and Caldercraft. He's designed the caldercraft Victory which was considered the most accurate stock kit until he did the 1/64 victory for Amati (still not released yet but oh man, look that up it's gorgeous)
Besides being, as you correctly observed, a really nice guy, Chris is one of the true innovators in our hobby, and he never rests on his laurels. Each new design of his includes features borne out of the experience he has gained with previous kits. This keeps Vanguard Models firmly in the forefront of wooden ship kit developments. Vanguard kits are not cheap, as other commenters have observed, but in this instance you really do get what you pay for. And, since a kit like this may take a year or more to build, the cost per hour of enjoyment is really quite reasonable.
Love your videos. I watch a few modelers from your recomendations. Here is one for you, Olha Batchvarov. If you havent seen her wooden model ship building you should check her out. Shes pretty good. Look forward to seeing this one finshed.
I agree with all below comments; looks like a great kit. Bad news: at over 400 pounds, it’s a bit out of range for most I think. Certainly for those of us on a fixed income.
I'm looking for "KA's" detail up sheet "O" for my second Titanic building. I only want that one sheet. I have emailed KA as to this issue but no response...any ideas? And of course I have been following your channel for months and it's very good.
That kit looks fantastic! I'll be looking forward to seeing this build.
Whoa! This kit looks both magnificent and intimidating to build. Fantastic details!
i look forward to getting back to model building after my rehabilitation from a stroke i survived until then Ben is the best alternative!

Hi Ben. Will we see any more of the USS Smith kit?
I have not forgotten about the Smith. Yes I will show more, I’m not sure when yet. I am going to finish my clients Titanic and then take a break for a shop renovation (should happen quick) then maybe work on Smith for a minute before getting back into my Titanic build.
That looks like a great kit-great review! When do you plan on starting the kit?

I enjoy doing the rigging.

I completely agree.

I watch almost all of Olha’s videos. Her builds are amazing!
I remember the days when I could get a 1/25 scale Revell model car on sale for like $3.50.

Looks amazing no sails ???
No sails. I think it’s about a 50/50 mix on kits coming with sails or not.
How do I get to join the patreon group
The link is in the video description. www.patreon.com/TheMidwestModelShop

Not sure what to tell you. KA doesn’t do partial orders. (I wish they did) Your best bet is to hunt around FaceBook and see what you can scrounge up.
@@TheMidwestModelShop Thanks for the quick response
Looks like a great wooden ship kit ...for someone younger than I am.
Put this build on general release for the great unwashed!
I’ll probably do a “Finished” video. There’s plenty of new content coming for the channel. But it’s time to give back to the people on Patreon.
Chris really deserves more love. So much talent
The word you were looking for is capstan
That IS the word!!!
No, it's a windlass. A capstan has a vertical drum
Until further clarification, I will call it a “Windlass Capstan”.
