I had lunch with Marta Kristen and Mark Goddard once. It was at Motor City Comic Con back in around 2002. When my friend was getting an autograph he mentioned that I was a teacher at the time at a foster care facility to Marta Kristen and she called over Mark Goddard. Goddard was teaching at a similar facility in Philadelphia at the time. We all struck up a conversation about working with kids and Marta Kristen invited my friend and I to go have lunch with them. Both were really nice and down to earth. It was weird for me talking shop with the pilot of the Jupiter 2.
RIP Mark Goddard
I can never hear that "We locked Bobby May in the robot over lunch" story enough times. Always a favorite.
Mark Goddard lead a life I admire. He entertained via tv then for decades a Special Needs teacher.
Thank you. I loved the show as a kid. The joy never leaves. I got a red Remco B9 robot for Christmas. I was real happy. I always wanted it to do more and be gray but it still is a great memory. 2 D batteries inside the tracks and behind the mouth was a standard flashlight bulb. It steered with a single wheel attached to and "arm." The arms had a squeeze control and popped back with an internal spring. It didn't say anything that I remember but boy I sure wish it did.
LOVE the Remco Robot!! Thanks for reaching out!!
I’m slightly younger. I think in 1970 I was looking through the 1968 Montgomery Ward catalog (my mother let me have outdated catalogs) and wanted the Robot so bad. I even called them to try and order one, but they no longer carried them. When I grew up, sort of, I tried finding one on eBay. They were like $400 and rare. I’ve purchased newer releases of B9 and Robbie that were probably much better. But I envy you actually getting one at the time. I have one that’s like 18”-24” tall with remote control.
@@MoviesMusicMonsterscan't wait for a planet of the apes. The original films were mind blowing
This is odd- the Robot turned up in discount stores and could be seen for sale as late as 1970 !! Then , I have even seen ones with " 50 cents" written on the box - they were at garage sales too! My situation was unique: My cousins were moving in 1974: they had some toys they no longer cared for - they gifted me their Lost in Space Robot ! (barely working, no box) but I had a BLAST with it! @@kenkoehler594
Marta Kristin is so hot! Legs to die for! Had I known about that convention I would have been there, but it was pre-internet, so living in Detroit meant I had no clue. At least I have had the chance to get autographs from Bill, Marta, Angela and Mark at local shows over the years. Sad to hear Mark passed away in October. Thanks for another great vid.
2015/2016 I was facebook friends with Bill Mumy. I would catch him at late hours 2-3AM Playing guitar, responding to facebook communications & doing goofy stuff. We struck up a dialogue several times & discussed music mostly. Mumy is a cool dude and is the one and only thing I miss about facebook - deleted in 2017.
Best to leave that stalker-cyborg Zuckerburg alone.
Attended both days at the Bayside LIS reunion. Such warmth and happiness filled the air . All around were smiles and laughter. Basking in the glow of seeing our old television friends. Lucky enough to catch Bob May on the side and asked if he would go around the side of the red curtain where the Robot stood and have my picture taken with him. He did not think twice and said sure! Got a picture for a lifetime of he and I on either side of our mechanical friend. Unreal!
This is fabulous, Dan! Thanks so much! My friend John met Jonathan Harris!
'More coffee, Don?" --PhD Biochemist Maureen Robinson
In the pilot, she was chopping carrots!😂
@Plisken65 , it's funny to watch now that we know. And while they were trapped in contracts, that easy work probably paid off their homes, so...
Another great video, Dan. When the question came up about the movie, I thought it was notable that they all said "No"...except Bill Mumy. Ironic because when the 1998 movie came out, June Lockhart, Mark Goddard and Marta Kristen were in it and Mumy was not. BTW, when I saw the film version in '98 I couldn't have been the only one who expected Mumy to show up as old/future Will. To paraphrase you..."How COOL would THAT have been?!?!?". Thanks again for the great content, man!
As a kid, my brother and two sisters would line up on the floor in front of our new RCA TV at 8 PM and watch Lost in Space; what a great time that was. Mom had one rule and that was all home work and any required study for test be complete B$ the set could be turned on. After LIS, we quickly took our time sequenced baths and went to bed.
Thanks so much for bringing all of the neat stuff out regarding this series.
Looking back it was really hoaky but from my 8-year old eyes then, it was a blast into the future and an amazing time.
What a crime it was that BATMAN was on ABC at the same time ! Must have been torture for families with 1 TV set !!
That was and is my all time favorite show
The CBS affiliate in San Francisco, KPIX, also had a “People Are Talking”.
Just bought the 25th Anniversary Reunion video. I was hoping someone would have had a good quality, good recording of the event and after many years, I finally have it. Thanks SO much! Highly recommended!!!
Hey Dan....I'm really digging your page!!!! Great walk down memory lane. Me and my brother were probably standing next to you during the convention and never knew. Keep the videos coming!!!
Hey, thank you so much for the support. You really have no idea how much I appreciate it :-) and yes, you probably were :-) hope you had a great holiday and I hope you continue doing short the content. Thanks again, Dan
Quite an experience. I took a vacation to Canada. Found out a few months later the Boston event has happened. I live close to Boston and could have changed my vacation to attend.
You missed a really good time :-)
Billy Mumy. Just watched him in a episode of The Munsters. Loved him in the old Twilight Zone episodes as well.
I wish I had known this reunion was happening at the time, I could have easily attended. But seeing these videos makes up for being out of the loop then
As a kid, I could tell how good an actor Michael Renee was.
Great show as usual, Dan.. terrible about losing guy Williams so early. Listening to the stories and seeing the robot assembled pretty cool.. oh no, you didn't!!! They sent you the vhs tape.. lol, pretty cool.
Excellent Dan, at least here in Australia l got to see Jonathon Harris and that was a Buzz. Fewer Channels then but what memories and shows
I was there. Good times indeed! Thanks for the video :)
Love your channel Dan,keep up the great work.
It was great. I was there, I got tons of pictures with the cast. Your videos are unique and very interesting!!
Bill mumy was in another sci-fi classic Babylon 5 playing Lennier
Only actor to do Twilight Zone, Lost In Space, Star Trek:DS9 and B5.
Thanks, Dan!
The stories you have! Thank you and looking forward for the next!
I'm really enjoying your channel. I was a big fan when I was a kid. I bought the entire episodes on DVD a few years ago and watched them. I was amused how campy the show was. I'm 65 now
I watched Lost in Space... this brought back fond memories...
Thank you Dan, great to see u on UA-cam! Love your vids! GeorgeM #58
Thanks 👍
That was interesting. I watched the show as a kid when it originally aired. When I look at it now as an adult it's hard for me to watch because it was so campy and silly. It did have some great props.
I love these LiS videos! Keep 'em coming!
I was there for day 1. It was amazing and so crowded. I couldn't believe there were so many fans of this show.
RIP Mark Goddard.
There's a good video out there of bob mae talking to a comedian as he goes inside the robot An operates it exactly the way bob mae had to. Very funny.
FUN FACT: Mark Goddard's real first name was Charles, but was convinced to change it by Chuck Connors...
I was there as well I won tickets though wbcn radio station and became friends with Mark
Wonderful stuff.
When I was a kid, I always laughed like everyone else at Dr. Smiths complaint about his back. Now that I am older, I have diagnosed his troubles as kidney stones. I have had them and have had two surgically removed. If they stay in your kidney, they can provide back pain at the most inopportune time but it can fade. With pain killers, you can get through it. But it is debilitating.
Would love to hear Will Mumy's thoughts on this interpretation. Thoughts from a urologist would be interesting too.
(You heard it hear first. Or please point me to another reference. I'd be curious if anyone else thought the same.)
As a kid you never noticed it was a spoof. The one that sticks in my mind is the one with the silver space lady that Dr Smith kept seeing at the window. PS. If you ever go on location with a prop robot of any kind, the sight of crew struggling to carry an ungainly torso will bring back smiles.
I believe she was green, not silver. (Floating and "singing", right ?)
Even as a child I knew that many of the b+w episodes were "scarier"
My favorite is the one where Debbie pushes Penny through a magic mirror, into a dimension inhabited by Michael Pollard. Tragic ending, I still think of it occasionally when looking into a mirror.
I think there was a Sliver lady in another episode and she may have been played by the same beautiful actress. I LOVE THE PENNY Magic Mirror episode !!!!!! It's weird and scary and plays out like a child hood NIGHTMARE . @@kurtbarlow9402
Thanks Dan
You can see Mumy didn't want to talk about TGVR.
This was a great video. I got to meet them all but not at the same time .Sad that at the time got campy..I knew you were going break our Hearts on copyright of that show
Great footage Dan.
You look like a rock star bro
I love Lost in Space BUT for GOD'S SAKE ; I wish people would stop focusing on the Carrot Man episode ! It's like a bad punch line. And by the way - it was one of the LAST episodes too. There was so much MORE to the show ! What about the GREAT episode with the Frozen Ship of Prisoners ? That was almost on par with a Star Trek episode! On a side note: I am also a HUGE fan of the Mary Tyler Moore Show and let me tell you ; Chuckles the Clown (his death) is the Carrot Man of the MTM show !
I wouldn't say "Condemned of Space" is on par with a Star Trek episode. Well, maybe "Spock's Brain" or "Turnabout Intruder". Episodes on par with Star Trek would be like "Invaders from the Fifth Dimension" or "The Keeper".
Lost. In. Space. Cast. On. People. Are. Talking
Nice shirt yo'
Great footage and story. Started watching Netflix series. Decently done. Slow at times. Keep up the scifi stuff
It'd be nice if stuff like this was publicly released. Then again, I want all of the TV season soundtracks released to buy for retail price--and NOT scalper prices...but that's probably not going to happen.
Again quite excellent!
I loved the movie remake.😊
I saw the reunion in Atlantic City, a little while later....
Dan, the 1999 LIS was a confused mess, that's for sure. What's your opinion about the Netflix version from a few years ago?
I liked it at first, I thought some of the general changes were okay, but overall I felt it was just a little too much "today" for me, if you know what I mean. Thanks for writing :-) Dan
Very cool
The "Lost In Space" movie was pretty terrible. I've never seen a more tonally jarring movie in my life. BUT the theme music by Apollo 440 was the best reworking of a them I've ever heard. It was outrageously kick ass but kept all of the elements we love so much about the original. They included the majestic trumpet section in all it's glory. It was my most important music when I went running for many years. If you can get your hands on it and you run or walk, play it and just TRY to slow down!
cool
I have a question. Did Irwin Allen have ideas for the show that he couldn't do because of budget or studio issues? Or that he deemed too outrageous for the audience to believe?
Wow, the Star Trek cast also didn't get residuals after the early 70s
There are several TV series,I wish the story was resolved, but sometimes the ending they come up with is disappointing…
Billy mumy, the Kid who played will robinson, actually had a script where they got back home. The remaining members of the cast did a table read and recorded themselves portraying their original characters. I believe it is available on the Lost in Space Blu-ray set.
With the budgets for TV shows back in the 1980's, I think it's probably a good thing that Lost in Space didn't get revived to see them come home. I personally don't want to see a repeat of anything like Galactica 1980, where it seemed like the network was so incredibly cheap. Then again, back in the late 1960's, the budget for Batman Season 3 had been cut so much that--more or less--ruined the show. (Added) Heck, due to cheap networks, we couldn't even see the full potential of The Powers of Matthew Star.
👍
Anything from Fireball XL5, Joe 90 or Captain Scarlett survive
Not as good as Star trek . I know, save for another time.😂
I would hardly bring Lost in Space up to Andy Warhol status - or any status. Stupid show that the cast actually hated when it was going on.
Here's the rain on our parade, everyone! Debbie Downer.
But still cooler than you. Ain't that somethin? 😁
@@ericfranchi1354 🤣
@@ericfranchi1354 The actors thought the show was stupid. But I guess the network found the right audience who wouldn't catch on.
