It always amazes me how many shows from my childhood actually weren't around that long, and yet I remember them so vividly decades later. Also interesting that this, Space 1999, and Star Trek TMP had such similar ideas for the uniforms

Shazam!/ISIS hour. Before that was The Tarzan/Batman Adventure Hour. After Shazam!/ISIS Hour was Space Academy with Johnathan Harris. Bet none of you know that Les Tremayne(1953 War of the Worlds-General Mann/ Monolith Monsters)was Billy Batson's mentor?

@@musicman201047, I remember those Saturday mornings. I don’t think it got any better than that! Kids now missing out on Saturday morning cartoons and live action kid shows is a shame. That was good quality entertainment. Somewhat intelligent, too.

I loved Ark II as a kid. It was one of those shows that if even the opening wa missed I'd be deflated for the most if not all the Morning/afternoon. It had everything: a kid to project into, a cool lead guy to project my future self into, someone to crush on and a talking chimp. It espescially helped growing up in the South West and getting to see the land out my window reflected in their adventures. But we just couldn't where they toys were. Where was Remco's utility belt version of this show? Where were the action figures and coloring books? Was there even a comic series? (Charlton, maybe?). Great video, great details I never knew.

Ark II, Space Academy and Jason Of Star Command should be rebooted, but not today. Maybe in another couple of decades when the 'stupid' trend that's ruining all the great IPs has run its course.

". . . every episode began and ended with a numbered entry into the Ark II's log by Commander Jonah, which more often than not contained the weekly moral that the kids learned while watching that particular show. Wow, morals and kid's television, certainly something you're not going to see in 2024." And this, my friends, is why the world is a desolate place in the 25th century.

Hi Dan.......as you probably know, anyone can talk about the stuff you discuss on your channel, however, it's the presentation and articulation that makes the difference. and yours is excellent. I was 14 when the show premiered and although I loved it, I was confused by the fact that there was no bathroom/shower or sleeping quarters aboard the ARK. Had they not had to garage the ROAMER, perhaps those thing would have fit. Take care.

One unanswered question I have about Saturday morning TV shows: Why were 95% of all shows just one season long? In that TV era to be profitable in syndication typically 3-5 seasons of a prime series was required. There were exceptions, such as The Outer Limits which was only two seasons long. And I seem to remember that for the Outer Limits, they only package the very best episodes for syndication, which was less than half of the total episodes.

All of the jet pack shots were done in one day, it was flown by a teenager. a copy of the jet pack was built as a prop, which is why you never see Terry Lester actually flying it; every take off or landing is achieved with a cut. You look carefully you will see minor differences in the prop and the actual jet pack (Bell Jet Belt, which is powered by steam generated by running pure hydrogen peroxide through a silver catalyst with pressurized nitrogen.)

Whenever I see full-sized, large vehicles built for shows and movies, I'm always curious how much of an interior, if any, they had. I know the filming sets weren't actually inside the vehicle itself, but it had to have enough of an interior for the actors to go in and out of it, and I always wonder what that was like.

I often wondered why the episodes replayed so often in their short syndication. Now I know . They only had a handful of episodes to begin with. The feature I loved so much about the 70's Saturday morning shows , is that they chose to create such creative live action. Wish they would have had more longevity though.
