@@xtrekrex Idgaf about aftermarket. You’re paying $43k for a car that is no faster than an admittedly (performance wise) average $35k car. That Subaru will require $7k more in parts and labor just to be as fast as the average $45k car… and still be WAY slower than the average $50k stock car that’s still under warranty because it wasn’t screwed with. Apples to apples in the same price bracket the Subaru sucks in every measurable way. If we’re taking aftermarket a $50k Stinger with no more than a tune is a 3.5 sec car, with way better features and a more reliable powertrain. How is this guy so not in the know. Pro Tip- 2024: they are bringing back the sport package. It’ll be a premium trim with Brembos and Recaros. Nothing else will change.
So Subaru is just going to stick with the cheap plastic around the wheel wells? I’d upgrade in a second if they tweaked some things. Only color I’ve seen that looks right is black and that’s because it matches that awful trim.
What are the STI parts? What about rev hang? Steering feel? Clutch take up? I do appreciate that you mentioned an improvement in the ride quality, though.
At the beginning of the video Ben says this is how the WRX should look right? Hell no this car is hideous. This car should get an award for the worst re-design in automotive history! It's a complete turd and ranks in last place against every competitor in the segment. Seriously every single person at Subaru who laid hands on or approved this re-design should be fired.
Have you not read up or watched any other videos? This car probably is around 300hp from the fly, i said the same thing a year and a half ago until the videos and reviews began coming out and was like "whoa, this is a completely redeveloped over previous gen" Add a programmer with moderate tune and you are where you want to be, has a ton of torque making it feel even faster especially down low. Drives really nice too..i'm looking forward to add one as a daily when the right deal comes.

Nice footage of SLC. I usually walk to Nate Wade when I'm there, but I didn't venture that far from downtown this June. I was surprised that they are now part of Ken Garff group. Another great review. Keep up the good job!
I see the fender flare hate and I understand why. Buuuuuut I kinda like them. It's a functional/utilitarian change. You're not chipping paint on a dirt or gravel road.
Bought a brand new 2006 WRX when they came out, first year they had the 2.5l in them, for $24k. Looks like the price has gone up a tad lol. I have to say the interior is miles ahead now, but honestly the exterior is pretty meh. Not to mention the equal length headers make it sound like garbage. Not in the market for this type of car anymore but would likely look elsewhere now due to price/performance ratio, and that's coming from a person who's only owned Subarus for the last 17 years.
$24k in 2006 is equal to $39,668 today, so it looks like the car is holding its price point fairly well. Plus there are less expensive trims that have a few less high tech goodies available, and are still a lot of fun to drive. The rest is your well deserved opinion, but IMHO the current wrx is a great machine. And yes, I'm very happy with my '22 wrx
No it equals $36k…. Inflation from 2006 to 2023 is almost exactly 50%. A $7k increase for basically similar performance, an upgraded interior, and a huge downgrade on the exterior is a massive ripoff. Subaru was well ahead of its time from 1998-2012, but since then they’ve rested on their laurels and fallen way behind the competition. It’s a shame really.
It's going to be the addition of the 4 pot Brembos on the GT. I'd wager a guess that they also offer the GT with the 6MT as well. Otherwise, PP: Recaros/Brembos on the Premium trim w/ 6MT only, just like the VA PP. Power? They never once addressed that during the VA lifecycle. Subaru does not have the money of other car companies. I would be SHOCKED if they touch the tune/power on the VB at any point during its run. They'd have to run two separate tunes: one for the 6MT and one for the CVT (the CVT can't really handle any additional torque).
If they off the gt trim with manual, i will LITERALLY go out the same day and place an order. It's as simple as that, subaru. just give me the damn gt trim with a manual and my money is YOURS
On the fence about buying one. All seems pretty good but I don't like the styling. Initially was all in for a 370z but they have an obsolete interior and they aren't making them anymore I believe. Never buy the first year of a new model, let them work out the bugs first. So maybe a 2023 WRX around Christmas when the 2024 come out and the dealers push out the old inventory.
It's a great car. Powerful, practical, well made. You won't understand how good of a car until it's finally gone and you're literally forced into all the stupid new trends that plague the car industry. Most cars no longer allow you to shift your own gears. Use a physical hand brake. Have space in the boot for a spare wheel. By having a WRX you won't have to deal with stupid little things like the Start-Stop or the annoying lane switching warning. It's a modern sample of the Golden Age philosophy of cars.
Get a base model, use the $$$ saved to add a better sounding exhaust, nicer wheels/tires and a few other things. Can't go wrong. Best WRX to date IMHO.
I owned a new 2013 WRX and these cars are nothing but issues! Completely unreliable, and it's to bad because Subaru once had a good reputation when the STI first came out!

@Ben Hardy; as always I enjoy your reviews. What I like best about your reviews is you're always objective and you tend to focus on all the positive characteristics of a car, and you do not stay focused on all the negative; so many wannabe novice automotive journalist/everyday people, do this so often. I believe that they think it makes them sound more profound, however, in essence, it just makes them sound, well, STUPID. Furthermore, Ben, I LOVED this all new Subaru WRX right out of the gate. I Love the black moldings around the wheel arches, love them. It really makes the WRX look like the rally racer sports sedan that it is. When this car came out, I could not believe how journalists were nit picking and panning this cars design; how they didn't like the black moldings; they didn't like this or that. I LOVE everything about the styling of this new WRX; I didn't care too much for the previous design, though, a sporty looking machine, it was not my favorite. The only thing that I find disappointing about this car is that it has a large 2.4 liter 4-cylinder turbo, making 271 horsepower, and the same 258 ft Lb of torque (same as the previous generation 2.0 WRX, save for 3 additional horsepower). Though, power output is definitely potent, however, comparing it to the VW Golf R, and Civic Type R, each with a 2.0 liter I4 turbo; both making 315 horsepower and between 295-310 Lb ft of torque, from engines with far less displacement; in comparison this new 2.4 liter turbo WRX engine's output falls short of the others. I'm disappointed in Subaru for this. I owned a 2017 Ford Focus RS with a 2.3 liter turbo engine: AMAZING car; so powerful, with 350 horsepower and 350 Lb Ft of torque. Whewwwww, that thing was a ROCKET !! 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. I lOVED it; amazing engine. Why doesn't Subaru do the same, I wonder what their reasoning is here. However, this new WRX does not disappoint. It looks great; plenty enough power to get you to 60 miles per hour in 5 seconds; and wonderful ALL WHEEL DRIVE traction: exceptional for handling; great traction (it can lay the power down), and as a bonus, it will get you around pretty good in the winter time too :). There's also the legendary Subaru tradition of that beautiful Boxer engine, and Subaru's excellent quality and reliability. I just wish Subaru would up their game here; bump this 2.4 liter turbo 4 cylinder from 271 horsepower to 360 horsepower, and 360 Ft Lb of torque too -yeah, snake eyes !! Thanks Ben ! As always, a great review. Best-Tim

Looks like a honda civic on the back
It looks like Subaru has not been selling well lately.
Cars in general are expensive. And this expensive among cars.
How is this guy so not in the know.
Pro Tip- 2024: they are bringing back the sport package. It’ll be a premium trim with Brembos and Recaros. Nothing else will change.
In person I like the new wrx.. the rear is my only real gripe but that's OK rest of car looks pretty great, it drives very nice which is best part
So Subaru is just going to stick with the cheap plastic around the wheel wells? I’d upgrade in a second if they tweaked some things. Only color I’ve seen that looks right is black and that’s because it matches that awful trim.
I’ve always wanted a STI. Would’ve considered this if they wouldn’t have put on those plastic fender flares. Looks like shit.
You shouldn’t be driving the car at that high of a rev range. These cars shouldn’t be getting close to 4K rpm before 1000 mile break in is complete
WOW! IT REAL SPORT CAR
What are the STI parts? What about rev hang? Steering feel? Clutch take up? I do appreciate that you mentioned an improvement in the ride quality, though.
that side view🤮🤮🤮
Hoping the looks will change soon because it looks like a toyota. No offence. I really like to get one but they need to improve the fascia.
Too much plastic
What big changes?
Why does the dash flash
Click bait who ha ha
That's a gorgeous blue. I have a 2023 WRX Premium inbound to the dealer; I have not committed to buying it yet, but it is $2k off MSRP.
Supra all day
Very slow.
Its what makes a Subaru a Subaru.Their more concern with making their next "cool" dog commercials sorry not sorry!
My gain. I want to enjoy my car, I don't want it to look nice just for a problematic teenager to steal it and brag about having done it.
If they give more than 300hp and increase in torque then I would consider!
@@mitchoconnell6815It’s not. It’s .1 second faster than a Mazda 3 and .3 seconds slower than a Kia K5… if it actually had more power than it was claiming it would be substantially faster than both.
just drove one, 6 speed so smooth, great everyday car and fun comfy ride and roomy
My old Subaru had a roll cage, and it still has better mpg
Is there's base model on 2024 subaru wrx??
Nice footage of SLC. I usually walk to Nate Wade when I'm there, but I didn't venture that far from downtown this June. I was surprised that they are now part of Ken Garff group. Another great review. Keep up the good job!
I see the fender flare hate and I understand why. Buuuuuut I kinda like them. It's a functional/utilitarian change. You're not chipping paint on a dirt or gravel road.
I didn't like them at first, but now have a 23 base model, and couldn't be happier. Great car for $30K.
@@ken-il2tk Give it time, and you'll see that keeping it to long will be a mistake! Owned one , and made that mistake with my WRX!
Damn, these things cost around the same in 2006 as they do now in 2023 in Canada. The base model 2023 is actually even cheaper than 2006 wrx was..
Had a 06 Wrx as well was a steal for the price. No one buys a WRX for interior so think im liking Corolla GR or 400z way better cars.
would you rather buy this or the MK8 GTI?
Honestly Hawkeye was peak after that downhill
43k for that car is WILD
@@dash0173 I'm with you, brother. I love my VA, but the GT would be a real quality of life upgrade.
@@M1KEMEX well put. I hate all those things you mention. I don't want Lane assist, or electric parking brakes
Get a base model, use the $$$ saved to add a better sounding exhaust, nicer wheels/tires and a few other things. Can't go wrong. Best WRX to date IMHO.
Same power as my 2018 😂 the only thing they did is make the car ugly and bump up the price tag
The way it makes power is way different. I had a VA. The VB will clap the VA in a roll.
@@xtrekrexBoth get clapped by a Kia K5 GT ($32k) so is that really a brag?
I owned a new 2013 WRX and these cars are nothing but issues! Completely unreliable, and it's to bad because Subaru once had a good reputation when the STI first came out!
Not for me in my 23 WRX. Sorry for your bad luck.
@@thekingandi1705claiming a 2023 vehicle is “reliable” is so laughable I’m not even sure how to explain it to you without insulting your intelligence. Every 2023 vehicle should be absolutely pristine. Get back with us in 5 years.
Not for me in my 2024 WRX 🤓
To all current new WRX people commenting they're reliable!!🤣😂🤣😂
@@NeverFollowTheCrowd Naive people like yourself is why Subaru continues to build junk cars, and still have young people willing to buy them! Law suits for blown motors, glass tranny, crappy clutches, etc!!😄
WRX should add rear aircond vent.... Same like in cvt... 😊
An sport tech rs trim like we hab in Canada with brembos and recaro would be amazing
The additional low end grunt from the 2.4 will make daily driving more fun!
It literally doesn’t have as much low end torque as almost every other 2.5T on the market. That engine only performs at high RPMs which is why it has performance “potential” greater than the average I4T
Is it a better drivers car than a Miata?
Lol no absolutely not, but it’s not in the same class either. This make for a fun daily driver, the Miata is a purpose built sports car.
I appreciate the fa24 but the VB is not a good looking car. Especially from behind. The infotainment is dog shit. Wheel choices are ugly. I would rather have any ej wrx
Best-Tim
Am I the only one who thinks a 4 door sedan is just dumb for a WRX?
When it’s the only awd or rwd thing with 4 doors and a manual that doesn’t cost a fortune and actually available, it’s worth it. Fuck fwd and autos and all this self driving bs that will eventually just start taking you where the govt wants you to go…
@@utawofficial you can still get a Jeep with a manual.
for me this is the best looking WRX do date...rear bumper needs just red accent lip
Should’ve just made a damn sti if they want more power . Cheap
Cars have a lot of features they didn't have in the past. They are never going to be cheap again.

Hmm , I think they downgraded the hp rating ? Thought it used to be 305 hp ?
The STi was 305, WRX has always been sub 300
Now you pay more for a wrx than a STI and less hp than a 20 yr old STI lol no thanx!
Yep bad deal all around
