I just got one of these Wildwood Spec 1960 60th Anniversary Les Paul Custom Shop reissues. I sold 3 other guitars to get it. Was it worth it? Yes!! I can't put it down. It sounds so much better than the other 2 Les Pauls I sold to get it. It has bell like clean tones that are better than my 82 Strat clean tones. I will probably sell that now too, because thst is all I used that guitar for. Then the overdrive sound is Paul Kossoff / Bernie Marsden like. Hollow, woody and super resonant, with amazing sustain. The volume and tone knobs actually work on this guitar!! I have a Friedman BE100 amp, and had the gain set on 7 on the BE Channel. That is a lot of gain! I rolled the guitar volume back to 5, and it cleaned right up. A little fizzy, but a descent clean sound without touching the amp. NONE of my other 5 Les Pauls (80's and 90's Pauls) would ever do that. The tone controls also work better in that it doesn't go to mud when you roll it back. It just mellows out the sound. The action is SUPER low right out of the case, and it plays like a dream, with no buzzing or fret outs while bending anywhere on the neck. I am just amazed how much better it is than my other Les Pauls were. It really was worth it, and I will keep this one for life! Wildwood was also the best customer service I have ever experienced ANYWHERE! They were so great about everything!! They even plugged my guitar into a BE100 they had and did a demo for me and sent it to me. They shipped it so fast too. I got it the next day! Just awesome!!
Sorry, but you are preaching to the choir! :-) I have been a customer and fan of Wildwood since 1999! They have to be the best music store in the nation for everything from customer service to the variety of stock. I am so happy that you love yours and hope you enjoy it for a long time!
Gorgeous sounding les paul...the great old ones were very woody sounding, chimey, almost tele like...rang like bells...yours seems to "check all the boxes" as you say...congrats ..enjoy and thank you for sharing!
Hi Ian! What you say is so true. There was a time in the 80s/early 90s when I stopped playing LPs because they were so nasal and mid range sounding. Yes, the originals were open nd woody with a bite. That's why I like this one. Thanks again and keep picking!
So envious.....
