Even if the 0 wasn´t as good as the first season I love this series because it made my love for steins gate grow even more and that is something truly special
Seriously agree, Steins Gate 0 may not have been as good overall as season 1. But it brought the series from my 6th favorite to my 3rd favorite anime of all time. It added so much to the series and characters.
And we never got Maho wanting to call Okabe, “Okarin San” :(. Also Faris was way too far removed at times.... She should have been to one to call Okarin “Kyoma” after the re-awakening.
@@Phantom-kc9ly That's one of the only things I credit the anime for doing well/better than the VN. The additions to the return to the alpha line (not beta I know it gets confusing) were great for developing Okabe and Kurisu's characters, and for going further in depth on explaining/showing how Kurisu shows up and pushes Okabe to jump back to the beta worldline by erasing SERN's data. Aside from that one episode, like episode 11 I think it was, the anime really only fucked a lot of the shit up.
Honestly I think if anyone wants to watch the Steins;Gate and truly get the 11/10 experience they seriously need to: 1.) watch S;G 1-22 2.) go for S;G 23β 3.) watch S;G0 1-22 4.) stop S;G0 23 at 18 minute mark 5.) watch S;G 23 from appx 15 minute mark 6.) finish it with S;G 24 and last couple of minutes from S;G0 23 When my friend watched it like this he became even more crazed about Steins Gate than I did :)
People have leveled complaints at Zero against MAHO?! I have literally never seen a single complaint against her, I've always seen people say that Maho was one of the best parts of 0.
i couldn't speak of the VN as i never play it but for the anime , the best surprising part was the addition zero did to mayuri and daru characters , they are far more superior in terms of characterization from the original as we see the motivation for daru to build the time machine and specific scene which surprise the hell out of us and the same could be said about mayuri Maho was great too
@@MohamedSalahUA-cam Daru best dad of the year. And I'd say both him and Mayuri are much better in the anime than in the VN, but the VN does a much better job with Moeka (Maho's ending, that isn't shown in the anime, really shows a different and more compelling side of Moeka. And it also has a much better version of Amadeus' goodbye), Maho and Okabe himself. Faris sucks in both, but she was the worst character from the start anyways,
I have seen plenty complaints about Maho dub VA - which I don't agree with. I do not like eng VA that plays her in general but she actually fits and did good job on Maho
You know, i tried rewatching the whole series in this order, Original 1 - 2 ---> 23B missing link ----> Steins Gate zero. And now i always see the original eps 23,24,25 (and plus the movie) as some sort of OVAs, because to me, the REAL original ending to steins gate, is the ending of steins gate 0, the original anime's ending only happens because of the ending of Steins Gate 0. And there's nothing could be more excited than suddenly hearing hacking to the gate kicks in in the last episode of SG0 .
Agreed, a lot of peoole shit on 0 cos it filled it all in at the end, but tbh, i didnt mind it and i loved how it went from somewhat chill and stuff at the start to murder and time travel by the end, so og steins gate and 0 get a 10 out of 10 from me.
Having only seen the adaptation, I was very moved by Okabe's portrayal as suffering from PTSD. I was equally moved watching him regain his mojo as a mad scientist.
This series worked for me because it works on an emotional level. As much as I loved the original story of SG, it was the characters that drew me in and put it at the top of my anime list. I like 0 because it works as a story of loss and grief, of finding that will to stand back up even though it hurts, of finding a way past failure, to settle for being Salieri after Amadeus has gone. The interactions with Okabe and Maho are incredible because they constantly remind each other of their grief but at the same time are forced to be the ones to settle Kurisu's legacy. They're both the lesser minds chasing the ghost of a genius.
*Spoilers for VN* To be honest, I feel like there was no way to properly adapt zero, as the true ending required two extremely different plot lines. Not only that, but some of the best parts of zero took place during the bad ending (though I could just love tragic endings). The betrayal of Maho was one of the best developments of Leskinen's character, and could have replaced the air time where the fake "convergence" happened, which really made no sense narrative-wise. I feel like this would have been a perfect way to transition to Okabe waking up in 2036 as well. To make the plot line more interesting and more cohesive, the anime should have taken more liberties with when events happened as well as from which ending they were taken from.
I agree. This adaptation wasn't perfect, but I really can't think of a way to improve it (except improving the animation a bit and the infamous rooftop fight scene) without messing too much with the source material. I'd even say in some places, like episode 8, the very last scene, and the travel back from 2036, it's better than the VN.
Honestly almost every problem S;G 0 has is due to what it is: a sequel to an adaptation of a visual novel about time travel which also exists within a closed loop. There were definatley some things that could have been tweaked or done smoother but I really enjoyed it nevertheless
Steins;Gate 0 did about as well as it could. It’s hard to top a masterpiece. Do I think it’s a worthy second season? Yeah it’s pretty good. Not a masterpiece though
It's not really a matter of "topping a masterpiece," Steins;gate 0 had just as fantastic source material to work from and dropped the ball with boring direction, bad camerawork, animation and pacing to name a few things. From just the first few minutes of Steins;gate you knew you were in for something good based off nuanced interactions between Okarin and Mayuri, compelling pacing and scene composition. I don't know shit about film or animation technique but it was just good. Played the VN in anticipation of the Steins;gate 0 anime adaption and was engrossed. When the anime came out, I watched weekly until I just got burnt out 13 episodes in on how lifeless the whole thing felt. Just a cash grab.
Gigguk is still more comedy focused though. I think Ark does now what he's always done best, get to the heart of a show, of what we all love about anime. He's gotten me to watch so many shows throughout the years because of this.
@@ShroomRPG Agreed! Ark is way more analytical on a serious level, and Gigguk is analytical, but as you said is waaaay more comedy focused. But he always speaks the truth!
Personally I adored the Steins;Gate 0 anime, I love it almost as much as the original Steins;Gate anime, even if a lot worse than the 0 VN. I like how it became its own work near the end. The beginning is weak but I love how they managed to weave the different endings into its own and still have epic moments, especially how they take their time with 2025 and have THAT FUCKING AMAZING SEQUENCE THAT PLAYS AMADEUS AND FATIMA AND THEN FUCKING OUTDOES ITSELF MORE WITH THE PHOENIX AND THEN HACKING TO THE GATE LIKE THIS MUSIC IS SO GOOD. Ahem.
As someone who has played the VN (all of it) i think the story would have been amazing if they had left 33% of it on the cutting floor. But they just had to make it full length and pad it with some lame stuff. Throughout it all, one truth still stood like a rock: Makise Kurisu is the perfect woman.
Yeah I agree with basically everything you said here. I also think some other things are worth mentioning such as the unnecessary and goofy action scenes peppered throughout. These scenes almost felt like a joke. (Kagari decapitating a guy with her hand. COUGH) I also am personally not a fan of how some returning characters were portrayed compared to the original. (Suzuha in Zero vs the original is a good example, even if it made sense story-wise.) But at the same time I love how it portrays certain other characters even more than the original, (Daru, Mayuri even,) so that's sort of a mixed bag for me. And finally the animation was also of a notably lower-quality than the original. Now all that said I do think the show does some things incredibly well, even better than the OG series. Certain character moments involving Mayuri and some others were easily highlights for me. (Also Episode 8, WOW) Anyway, it may be far from perfect in the end but I'm glad we got what we got at the very least.
@@MohamedSalahUA-cam Calm the fuck down dude, the action scene is just adding salt to the injury. Steins;Gate 0 was garbage compared to the original and the shitty action scenes ruined the anime even more. It's better to not have any action scenes at all than having shitty action scenes. Apart from the shitty action scenes, everything else felt flat, the anime wasn't going anywhere for the most part and it mostly consisted of cringy and boring slice of life. There's much better slice of life animes out there.
@@d-hunter9801 it wasn't going anywhere ? most of the screen time was dedicated to characters interactions and interesting conversations , the action was alright not terrible or forced just alright.
They could've done a much better job at intertwining the plots, they spent way too much time on filler the first 15 episodes and tried to cram everything in at the end.
I won't pretend it wasn't filler, in many ways it was, however the other big issue with that "filler" for the first 15 episodes was that they introduced the beginnings of some plot threads and character developments but then just never finished them, left them as is, therefore making them POINTLESS filler that made no sense. This was because they failed to properly adapt what was in the VN. God I fucking hated Steins;Gate 0's adaptation, it was awful, and I do agree their failures as directors and writers caused the ending to be insanely rushed.
@@LilJbm1 Couldn't they have just chose the "best" (objectively) ending from the VN and just done that for the adaptation? Why would they go through the trouble of trying to include all plot lines (fucking kagari)? Just asking cause I haven't played VN but am considering, but also am curious as to why they would try to intertwine plots.
@@donutminion8881 Because unlike the original, Steins;gate 0 has a really weird structure where you have to play all the small different endings to get to the true ending. If they just adapted the true ending, the anime would be way too short and wouldn't have enough content or even be an enjoyable and comprehensible story.
Funnily enough, my feelings are almost opposite - while there was a lot of stuff I was sad to miss, but ultimately I felt like the anime was better in the end because of my biggest complaint with the VN - how disjointed it felt in the end. While I loved the individual routes, the lack of a proper “true ending” in favor of an epilogue that did nothing for the actual plot threads and such left it feeling like less than the sum of its parts; and, ultimately, the anime fixed that for me by putting the routes together and including some dramatic payoff moments that were teased for the whole visual novel and never actually payed off.
8:58 Well, that is just disappointing. That is one of my bigger complaints with the anime. We needed some emphasis on Kagari and whatever the hell she's been through. Too bad that never happened. Dangit. 😁
First of all, Steins;Gate 0 anime WAS NOT AN ADAPTATION! Here is my interpratation about Steins;Gate 0 (and how the VN and the anime complete each other): "In terms of worldline iteration chronology, the events of the anime takes place between VA and MWC. The anime is not really an adapation, it's like the 8th and final route of the VN. Steins;Gate 0 is about worldline iterations. You can play 7 different routes in the VN. Every route begins with Okabe fails to save Kurisu, and every route ends with Suzuha traveling back from 2036. When a route ends, a new route starts. Iterate the routes over and over again, until you reach the starting point of the anime. Then the anime will take you directly to the true end, MWC. The whole point of 0 was that there is countless failed worldlines and futures which needed to reach Steins Gate, because you can't get to Steins Gate directly. You need to try dozens, thousands, or a million times to reach it. So there was many Okabe who tried to reach it, but only the last Okabe (anime Okabe) succeeded. But the other Okabes was also needed for the success." Secondly, you are always talking about closed loops. Closed loops are not a thing in Steins;Gate. They are not exist in this universe.
Finally someone that mosly gets this. Only thing you missed is that MWC is not continuous of VA. MWC is essentially a time-skip, countless of iterations into the future, and doesn't necessarily have to take place directly after V&A, although V&A needs to have happened for MWC to happen.
Matsubara (producer) said that while they couldn't fit stuff from the VN in the anime, they were able to put stuff in the anime that they weren't able to have in the VN. Examples being episode 8, showing how Okabe got back from 2036 in the past, etc. He said that the two of them together are what make 0 what it is. I think the anime was able to fix a lot of things such as developing on the Hashida Family in ep 15. While some plot points were cut out, I don't think they heavily contributed much in the first place such as the Soviet Union World line, which while it does cause RS for a bunch of others, it doesn't change Okabe's viewpoint or progression on reaching S;G nor do the patients ever get saved or mentioned in the end. There were also some plot holes that were fixed from the VN such as Okabe sending D-RINE at the end of the PR route should have triggered his RS yet it didn't. Additionally I think you are confused about who was the woman in the biker helmet at the Vega and Altair climax. It wasn't Yuki but Kagari with plastic surgery who somehow was able to act like Yuki exactly. The small hints of Yuki being a spy were a red herring that also existed in the PR route.
@@arjunsingh8219 Hinamatsuri was great. Still there are even better ones in my opinion (Megalo Box and Lupin III Part 5, for example. And now that I saw the last episode I'd add Zombieland Saga too). But to me the only good parts of Violet Evergarden were the visuals and the soundtrack. Most beautiful show of the year, absolutely. One of the best, not really.
When I first watched steins gate (very recently) my friend told me to watch up until the part where Okabe comes back from failing to save Kurisu, then watch Steins Gate 0, then come back to Steins Gate. Definitely a good decision.
I think of 0's anime as much less as an adaptation of the VN, but as an extension of it. Steins;Gate 0's anime shows quite a lot of the content that wasn't adapted into 0's VN (You heard that right, adapted). The 0 VN cut massive parts of the Arc-light of the Point at Infinity story, which was shown in full in the anime. The first few episodes also adapted more of the Epigraph Trilogy than from 0 itself. It also expanded upon the Recursive Mother Goose arc with it's anime original content in a way that I didn't think possible. I also don't think this is just the story of one of the thousands of Beta incarnations, rather I believe the anime tells the story of the final one. The final worldline they end on recites the Fibonacci sequence, representing the culmination of all the previous Okabes. If you'll give me a moment to shill the rest of the SciADV series, this divergence is possibly gonna be important in Robotics;Notes DaSH. That's not to say the anime is without it's issues. Nor is the VN, but I do believe they're in a symbiotic relationship, with the anime covering up some of the problems of the VN, and the VN covering up some of the problems with the anime. That said, I do have a warning for anyone wanting to see the 0 anime dubbed: The dub is absolute garbage. The writers clearly didn't read the source material or do even the most basic of research and it shows. The first episode of the dub has a Maho literally speaking Japanese in the dub. This could have been avoided by having Leskinen speak Finnish in the background. Instead they chose to have Maho speak Japanese because Leskinen is very much American (never mind the name being extremely common in Finland and that the Epigraphmanga design was based off the Finnish prime minister at the time) The dub also manages to remove catchphrases that does have quite the bit of plot relevance. See "Okey-dokey". It also manages to get the date of Tanabata wrong, this is bad, because a huge part of the symbolism behind the Arc-light storyline relies on the legend of Tanabata, that is, the story of Orihime and Hikoboshi, or Vega and Altair. Granted, the subtitles also gets this wrong, but fans have already taken care of fixing this, among many other subtitle mistakes over on the r/steinsgate subreddit. Lastly, both the sub and the dub gets the logo textblurb wrong at the end of 0 when Maho recites it. The dub makes the more agregious missteps of these, where it turns it into a freeform poem: "The universe may not have a discernable end, it's infinite, but it had a beginning. As for its component parts, the stars, those definitely have a limited cosmological shelf life, they're finite. If history tells us anything, it's that scientists often make very poor poets, worship of fools, chasing phantoms, heedless of what underwrites natural law. If we could somehow attain that wisdom, perhaps it would only plunge us into madness and ruin. Humans exceeding the speed of light? It's more foolish than fish attempting to make a life on land, and yet... These words, they're meant for those foolhardy enough to defy the Councils of Fate, An Epigraph for their Obstinance." Compare this to the VN version: "The universe has a beginning, but no end. - Infinity. Stars, too, have their own beginnings, but their own power results in their destruction. - Finite. It is those who possess wisdom who are the greatest fools. History has shown us this. The fish in the sea know naught of the land. If they had wisdom, they too would be destroyed. And it is more absurd for man to travel faster than light than it is for fish to walk on land. This is the story of those who fought against God's final warning. This is the epigraph of their obsession." The word choice obsession is incredibly important here, as this is a common theme of all of SciADV, which repeats itself in all of them. And Arkada, if you're reading this: You're doing yourself a misservice if you don't read the other visual novels. Most of them are equally as good as Steins;Gate. ChäoS;Child in particular is commonly regarded as better than Steins;Gate. However, please do stay away from the anime adaptations of ChäoS;HEAd and ChäoS;Child. They're both regarded as completely abyssmal.
I hard disagree that the dub of 0 is garbage. There are some liberties taken, like with the logo text, but the meaning behind the words haven't changed just said differently. If anything, the dialogue used then comes full circle with what was said in the beginning of the OG Steins;Gate dub which I was super grateful for since the perk of dub Okabe is his grandiose vocabulary and so it came full circle. Plus the actual text is broken Engish so saying it exactly would make for a clunky speech. Literally from the logo: "There is no end though there is a start in space - Infinity. It has own power, it ruins, and it goes though there is a start also in the star - Finite. Only the person who was wisdom can read the most foolish one from the history. The fish that lives in the sea doesn't know the world in the land. It also ruins and goes if they have wisdom. It is funnier that man exceeds the speed of light than fish start living in the land. It can be said that this is an final ultimatum from the god to the people who can fight." FUNimation takes great care with the repeated phrases for the SciAdv to be consistent (They have all five entires thus far), see Chaos;Head/Robotics;Notes for "Whose eyes are those?" which was localized to "Those eyes, whose are they?". The scripts for both the OG series and the film was penned by J Michael Tatum who also voices Okabe and he holds the franchise and his role in high esteem and his work is consistent throughout for those with sharp ears. Sadly he didn't work on 0s script fully due to it being a simuldub but I still feel it's on point for the most part. If anything, at times it felt too ripped from the subs but when Hououin Kyouma returned, his dialogue felt very consistent with his localized characterization which was bitchin'. I don't understand the "Okey-Dokey" argument since the dub still retained that. As to the Maho/Leskinen speech, I agree maybe him speaking Finnish would have been a better solution but lore wise what they did couldn't have been done better considering they are American scientists from America and with it being a dub it wasn't too bad an idea to reverse languages. This was the first time the localization teams came across a situation like this too. As to the Tanabata date, I'll have to rewatch it but if so I would say it's a minor discrepancy. Yes, it's a shame but the meaning behind Hikoboshi and Orihime/Altair and Vega still stands despite this and it's not exactly the first time in pop culture to have something akin to it happen. Some may take issue with these "changes" or simply prefer the OG Japanese version , which is fine and dandy, but these complaints, no offense, come off as really nitpicky and incorrect. To assume the team behind the dub don't care is wrongheaded especially when they go through the licensors/creators for validation and hold the work in such regards. I'm a huge Steins;Gate fan of both versions and the V/Ns and I say they did a serviceable job if not better at times, which is to say nothing of the excellent voice acting performances throughout.
I do agree with your overall assessment of 0 though were the anime improved on certain parts of the V/N and vice versa. The ending in particular had me in tears.
@@OtakuLunar >Liberties with logo text because the original is a mess I agree that the logo subtext is a mess. That's why the translations fix these. >Funimation takes great care of repeated phrases Yes. They have the repeated phrases, but some of their translations are just hillariously unfitting. Hoppy the Frog has become a meme, and I'm honestly not sure if I like or dislike it. "Those eyes, whose are they" is unfitting, considering the line got a follow-up/answer in C;C. They couldn't have known that back then, though. That care, though, also removes any corrections made later on though, such as with the Luka/Ruka debarcle. >OG Scripts by Tatum I'm not really sure how confident I am in Tatum's knowledge of Steins;Gate or SciADV. His Steins;Gate (OG) recap is what makes me question it. Generally, I am not fond of Tatum myself, I don't like his Hououin Kyouma, but that's up to personal preference. >Okey-dokey Yes, after the writers realized that it was re-occuring. There was a removed "Okey-dokey" in Episode 1, which was dubbed as "I am SO on it!". Further supports my theory that the 0 scriptwriters know even less than Tatum. >Maho/Leskinen Maho is a Japanese-American. Leskinen is a Finnish-American. The reason I suggested Finnish was because lore-wise, there's so much to support the theory that he's at least part-Finnish that it would be stupid to not make that decision. Reversing languages isn't bad in theory, but it turned out really poorly in practice, since the Japanese was god awful and the transition back to English was extremely jarring. >Tanabata Until you realize what Tanabata actually is. It's the one time of year where Orihime (Vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair), seperated by the will of Orihime's father (Tentei, the Universe itself) over the distance of the river Amanogawa (The Milky Way) are allowed to meet once a year. This takes place on the 7th of July, the same date Operation Arc-light (and presumably Operation Altair) takes place. Considering this, it's a major part of Mayuri's characterisation during 0. I don't think the team didn't care, by the way. I just thought they're quite plain incompetent. Especially regarding Suzuha, her anger came off as completely out of character at times. Sure, she was more angry in 0, but not as much as the first few episodes of the dub portrayed her as. As with regards to the voice performance of the characters in general. I think 0 tested the limits of the VAs. Kurisu's gossip felt completely off. It felt like a 30 year old woman gossipping like a high schooler. Daru was no better or worse than the OG dub, even if his trademark "fat otaku voice" is kinda a part of his character imo. Mayuri has always been unbearable in the dub for me, although I'll applaud the first thirty seconds of the first episode where I really felt she for once hit the crux of the character. Faris just feels cringey in English, and the cat puns are pretty bad.I do imagine this would be the same way for a native JP speaker with regards to the cat puns in the original, though. Tatum feels too douchey in 0. He feels like he's Hououin Kyouma with his voice tone, even if he isn't. Also, nothing matches Miyano's mad laughs. I personally can't recommend the dub to anyone. It'd be a disservice to pretty much everyone
I wouldn't even call it bad compared to the original. Just a bit worse. I'd give Steins;Gate a 10/10 (and I only gave one other series in all my life a 10/10), and 0 a 9/10 The opening is great, but Golden Kamuy 2 has the best song, Zombieland Saga has the best visuals and Jojo part 5 is the best overall. Though technically Mahoutsukai no Yome's 2nd opening (the version they use for the last episode) was my favourite this year.
@@madengineerkyouma Exactly my feeling, i would be very pleased if this is how Steins Gate ends, the second season really showed almost no weakness against the first season.
Reading some of these comments like a year+ later I'm kinda sad to see how many people didn't like it, seems there is a pretty big split of loved/hated it, honestly, loved it, I even re-watched S;G before going into this so it wasn't like I was recalling some past memory of the original being great, which it indeed was, re-watch was just as great. Sure there is some stupid plot points in S;G 0 that never felt needed, but by the end its still a 10/10 for me, or a VERY strong 9, it has a different feeling to the original which I guess it what makes people love or hate it, the more "real" take of Okabe living with his failures and having to be built back up was great, where as I feel like the original feels more "hopeful"? since while tragic, for the most part he doesn't give up to the point of being broken and S;G 0 is like 90% a broken man and it can be hard to watch, also guess people miss the more time travel/sci-fi elements of S;G since a lot S;G 0 doesn't really go into it. I mean... its not like the original doesn't pull something stupid with the whole MESSAGE FROM MY FUTURE SELF, if anything S;G 0 gives this context, now looking back that was like a convenient way to give the original a happy ending and you accept it since after what he does go through that's what you want and its not out of the question it could happen, as we finally see how it does in this. Honestly, feels train hit me way harder in S;G 0 than S;G was a lot of raw emotion seeing what all these characters have gone through, while they don't remember losing Kurisu they did essentially lose their friend and seeing the toll it also takes on them is great, I mean just the couple of scenes with Daru/Okabe (you know the ones) is great and in part this is why I feel its just as great, any anime that can get me emotionally invested is kinda hard to say its not great. Having no S;G to watch after a 2 day binge of both shows is going to leave a void for a couple days...
I agree, but the way they handle the anime was kinda disappointing, but still great overall regardless and i would still say is one of the best non-fiction story/show I've seen, but they tried to fit everything within one season without explaining much of the contexts from the VN. What i wish they'd handled is they do the true ending in Steins;Gate 0 and start another season called Steins;Gate 0 Alternative. Because from what i remember, you need to get two endings before getting the true ending in the VN, and the third season would be the two endings being in a form of 12 episodes each and taking the third season with another 24 episodes. Well this is my opinion.
@@majestic6592 cant agree more brother people hate way too much to zero but for me some moments in it hitted harder than any scene of original or any anime in general mainly okabe leaping 3000 times and the laugh scene when he was laughing while we all were crying after seeing him overcoming from that much trauma being hyoumin kyouma again chills man and the declaration of war on top of radio building to leskenin saying this is the choice of steins gate and also him saving mayuri and suzuha at end in unknown earth i think i remember more scenes from zero than original in more hype moments and people dont know the highest rated ep on imdb in both parts is ep 21 of steins Gate zero still people cant get though it
TBF, in the vn Leskinen also only shows up and reveals himself deadass for one scene (once in his OWN route, and iirc like twice or so in Mayuri's) and then becomes irrelevant again. Not saying the anime did it optimally, but I also feel like the vn could have done much more with Leskinen. (Also lowkey kinda okay with Reyes being cut, she shows up like, twice??? in the route she shows up in??)
@@mondeiya9017 my only problem I had about them adding Reyes at all was they were trying to make it seem like Amane was the one that attacked the science lab (like copying how moeka did from season 1) but then they shown it might’ve been her (covering her hand In the plane) and then it just went nowhere for the rest of the season which tbh annoyed me
I think you did the anime justice. But yes, the girl from the S;G OVA is Suzuha's mom. They retconned "her looks" and in the movie, she's a lot more similar to how she looks in the S;G 0 anime. So, in short, I think S;G 0 is a suffiencet experience for those who won't read the Visual Novel though some side-plots will be underdeveloped. And if you read the Visual Novel too, it will amplify your experience more (But I'm not saying hey, go read the VN lol. The anime has its goods and bads. It compliments the VN and can work without it - for the most part - all at the same time!!!)
I mean retconned seems a bit much here, in the OVA they're on the Steins;Gate timeline where her and some of her friends were taking a trip to America, so she probably just cut her hair and dyed it a shade of red for the trip, meanwhile on the Beta timeline she doesn't take the trip for some reason and keeps her hair the way it was.
Hey aren't u the guy who has a S;G page on fb? Its name is Lab member 00 (I think). Just wanted to say that I really like the content of your page. (If it was indeed yours and I'm not mistaken lol.)
I agree with madestmadhatter, the changes to Yuki Amane could boil down to separate worldlines and the butterfly effect. Even the Steins;Gate 0 V/N changed her depending on the route taken.
y'all don't know what retconning is, any ova's and movies are not canon, the anime is canon within itself and the visual novels are canon within themselves. If you're going to consider this retconning then lets talk about how okabe "fades" from the steins;gate worldline in the movie, which retcons the established laws of the universe
As someone who has never played the graphic novel and has no intention in playing it anytime soon, I loved Steins;Gate 0 just as much as I love the original.
I extremely enjoyed this series, both 0 and the original, I watched them both back to back and the change of pace and mood in 0 managed to maintain my interest. From what I have seen of the public opinion of this series is that you either loved it or hated it, literaly no in between, and while I can see some of the negatives presented, at the end of the day I enjoyed the hell out of this series and I think that is what matters the most.
I'm so glad you talked about "welcome to the NHK" at the end of the video. So, my sister for many years talked me about NHK, saying it was the best anime she ever saw, well, at the end of last year I saw it and I become in love with it, I saw myself and also my sister in Sato's character, I went to speak with her about it, but then she was like "yeah, It was my favorite for some time", that awnser stunned me because she was always so insistent into making me watch the series... After a month or two she took her own life, only then I knew what passed through her mind... She saw in NHK some hope, at the end lost it... Needless to say, this anime means so much to me, to her, and to her friends too... If possible, please, make a review of it someday.
Digi's thoroughly destroyed this show hardcore. I don't know if I'm 100% on the hatetrain but I felt closer to digibro's viewpoint on my initial viewing personally.
Lar's Gaming Channel Now no one who watches his shit review gets to form their own opinion about it, and that gets me really angry. Bad media review is already a problem on youtube, and its not stoping. Its “entertaining” to watch someone insult and try to pick apart a show or movie you like? He’s just a sad guy sitting at a computer and everyone takes his view as absolute fact? What the fuck?
I watched 0 about 10 years after I first watched the original. I waited a few years after 0 came out to go watch it, as I had largely fallen out of watching anime around 2016, feeling like I didn't have many stories growing up with me that I felt I could relate to the way I was able to in college before then. I watched it for the first time last year and I was stunned. I got just as into it as the original. I felt like I myself had traveled back in time to a place I was years ago, but, at the same time, I felt as if it was not me travelling back, but my past travelling forward. I felt that the series had grown up with me. I could relate to Okabe Rintarou more than ever, even up to the final moments when he realized that his character wasn't just a playful facade, but a necessary part of him to truly achieve the best outcome. I wish the anime could've been longer to be an even more faithful adaptation, but I am truly just amazed and grateful for what we got. This is a series I love, and it really is something special for me
The problem with S;G 0 is that the whole plot revolves around different time-lines depending on others, this is why condensing all the time-lines into one was a terrible idea. The most prominent example to show this is the song mayuri sang to kagari when she was a kid; the song doesn't apear from nowhere as it seems in the anime, it actually starts in the time-line in which okabe switches time-lines to a war ravaged one. The song can be heard coming from the music box that is gifted to maho, then the song makes its way to the future probably through the interactions between the main characters, being passed onto susuha in some timelines, or kagari. And actually in the game it shows that kagari taught okabe the song when she escaped from the facility in one of the time-lines. The actual song we hear being sang by kagari is a song which lyrics were written through many time-lines. Same with most of Kagari's plots, she is herself in some timelines and in others she pretends to be Yuki, this all has consequences on other timelines since timelines are connected through time travel (susuha and kagari). In a way the true ending in steins;gate only exists because of the hypothetical results of other time-lines which influence each others. This is why in the game each ending is a path to steins;gate, because through susuha they change the timeline constantly.
I probably got the best experience with 0, having watched the first series, but long enough ago that I forgot about several key details, most importantly the video from Okabe's future self. So it was actually a surprise for me that this timeline tied back to the ending of the original series.
I hope the title means what I think it means- My thoughts regarding the anime: S;G 0 Visual Novel: This game is all about Kagari. S;G 0 Anime Adaptation: Where the heck is Kagari's story?!
What I like about steins;gate is that even if they don't show or explain everything, you can still understand it all somehow, there's been many times during watching the series when I wanted to just open youtube and watch some explanation videos. But then I thought about it for a little and suddenly it all made sense.
The badly animated one? well it's true that Steins;Gate isn't the best anime when it comes to fighting scenes... but that's really nowhere near the focus of the story
i'm getting tired of the action scene argument it was literally less than 3 minutes ! and the original didn't have an action scenes to begin with So WTF does everyone mean when comparing this scene to the original and saying the original was better !!? what are you comparing this scene to ?
@@MohamedSalahUA-cam It was bad. I didn't mind it, I don't really care about action in this kind of series, and I LOVE S;G 0, but we can't deny that specific little scene was bad. Still a 9/10 series and one of the best of the year along with Golden Kamuy and the ending of Mahoutsukai no Yome.
last 2 years how long i watch your channel, for anime your videos are fun to watch and your opinion have credibility because in most of time your recommendations i did like. so i hope that your work continue in next years !!!
Is this for real? That said it's not that hard to have mental slips every now and again. Especially since all that separate the titles is a simple "0".
The Steins;Gate 0 anime is amazing! To think the anime adaptation doesn't quite live up to the original is expected, but also a good reason for me to get into it again when I revisit it in the future!!
So, I just recently re-finished watching Steins;Gate to then watch the movie for the first time, and now of course start S;G 0. This video in particular has been sitting in my Watch Later since it came out (about a year and a half ago) because I wanted to of course get that reviewer start from you, Glass Reflection (because who better then someone who is just as much of a fan of the series)! Needless to say, I am glad to have finally watched your review, and am excited to start S;G 0! However the amazement doesn't stop there, because you actually, in this VERY same video, not only mentioned my favorite anime (Steins;Gate of course), but my SECOND TOO! To anyone who hasn't seen it yet, take GR's recommendation of Welcome to the NHK, it is hands down charming and hilarious, has that sad undertone of brokenness that everyone has (albeit in different ways), and reasonably holds my heart as 2nd favorite! It is very underappreciated, and I do wish they would have continued, however if that would bother you, you could easily just read the manga or novel or whatever it's original was. Anyway, sorry for the ramblings of a fan. I'm glad to see you have such good and similar tastes my boy, and hope that maybe you'll see this! Until your next video, El Psy Kongroo.
steins;gate is my favorite anime (behind brotherhood) and i was happy with how 0 came out. but i wasnt the biggest fan of kagari either... but yes!!! i love erased!
Bruh, it makes sense why suzuha didn’t talk about kagari. Since in other world lines, kagari was never brought to the past since in the previous world lines the time machine was a 1 person seater.
It's nice to see that some people really enjoy Steins;Gate 0 the anime, knowing that many others think it's really lacking. This video changed my mind about Steins;Gate 0, and I think that now, 1 week after watching Steins;Gate and the amazing movie for the first time and 1 day after watching it again with my friend, I'm going to give Steins;Gate 0 another chance. Thank you for this. This really is the beat anime of all time.
I finished all the routes for the visual novel on the same day the first episode of the anime came out, so the content of the VN was still fresh in my mind. I liked the anime, but loved the VN !! The thing I was most disappointed in the anime was the future time when the world was on war, and Okabe suddenly appears there. It was a huge reading on the novel, but in the anime it was like 30 seconds and screw the rest. This was one of my favorite parts on the VN, and in the anime it was forgotten...
Those that say the characters were OOC in 0 are fans that don’t understand the point of the steins gate series. That point is deception. Also steins gate never had amazing animation. Amazing animation was never the reason why it’s a beloved franchise. It’s due to the characters and their reactions to certain events. I thought 0 was a pretty good sequel overall. Obviously not as good as the original but it’s a must for fans of the original imo.
@@justyouraverageweebwhocana2924 If that wasn't his real personality then why does he act like it all the time, even when Mayuri says she doesn't need him to act like that anymore and she isn't even there.
He acted like that like to cheer her up when her relatives died and it just became a habit of him. Who actually acts like that irl 24/7? There were flashbacks that had okabe acting like a normal person before her reletives death. Plus he was breaking down after experiencing mayuri’s deaths over and over again. You wouldn’t break down after experiencing what okabe had to go through?
@@justyouraverageweebwhocana2924 Mayuri literally says: "You don't need to act like this, I'm over it". Not to mention all the times when he does his act when Mayuri isn't around. It goes beyond habit and into personality. He initially did it to cheer up Mayuri but, now can't stop acting like it.
You should make a video of your complete anime collection, Maybe go over a few of your favourites, would be really cool to see! I started buying & collecting anime myself about 3 years ago, and as a fellow enthusiast I would love to see all the gems you have gathered over the years!
Two things: You referenced the fourth motorcycle helmet girl and how it is alluded to in the show, just wanted to confirm everybody else thinks it Yuki, right? Also, at 13:25 you said "Nothing will have you grinning like a madman at the prospect of a guy putting on a lab coat quite like zero". Honestly, that moment in Zero was so powerful and so symbolic I would dare say grinning doesn't do it justice. I nearly cried when I first watched that scene purely because of its significance for not only the show, but also Okabe. It truly was the resurrection of Hououin kyouma and the death of depressed Okabe. It was probably the best moment in Zero imo.
Steins gate was so insanely impressive, mind breaking and emotional, that this very video about it, that i watch weeks and months after BINGE WATCHING the entire steins gate saga in anime form in less then 4 days, makes me cry, depressed and wanting to turn back time....just to watch steins gate again. For the first time. Because thats the emotional rollercoaster walkthrough im always trying to get from anime, and i HIGHLY doubt i will ever get an experience similar to Steins Gate again. Since you sincerely recommended it, i will buy the Steins Gate Visual Novel saga, and play through it. Its my first time ever playing a Visual novel and i cannot wait.... to sit in a corner and think about very existance itself after finishing an arc. Thanks!
i thought the reason they didnt introduce kagari till season 2 was because mayuri dies in ever other world line and she only comes to the past in zero because it's the world line where mayuri lives and adopts her in the future
Well... I loved Stein's Gate, and I really tried to love zero as well. I went in accepting the fact that zero probably wouldn't match up to the original in terms of quality... but I was still disappointed. I wouldn't say Zero is a BAD series, but even as an average series it was really disappointing. The first half dragged on unnecessarily and the second half had some good ideas but didn't take them anywhere. Add to that that as you said many things didn't make sense to people like me who haven't read the VN... More than all I didn't think Zero really added anything significant to the near perfection that was the original, so if someone asked me for my opinion I would strongly recommend watching the original series and skip zero.
Totally agree with everything you said. Steins;Gate 0 had some good moments like episode 8 which I loved, episode 13, 19, 20 & 21 were pretty nice too but that's about it. A couple of memorable episodes is not enough to save this anime, apart from those good episodes the rest of the episodes were mediocre at best and crappy at worst.
As someone who immensely enjoyed the original and hasn't read any of the visual novels, I didn't enjoy Steins;Gate 0. The narrative would often ramp up before immediately switching to some random VN filler, then it proceeds to begin the cycle anew. Overall, I felt like the show was mostly jumping around without going anywhere until it got closer to the end. Furthermore, that combined with just straight up poor writing made me feel as if I'd have better off not seeing the show at all, even with some of the great moments it did have.
yeah, i kinda have to forget the OG steins gate for a moment to enjoy 0, that's a bad sign. It's a disappointment, but i don't regret watching it just for the great moments it had
Because to get to the true end, you have to see all the bad ends that don't directly lead up to it. Some character developments will not happen at all if followed straight to true end (like Moeka). Finishing the VN the first time, I knew they would have trouble adapting to anime.... either they follow the VN's method or what will happen is the Studio Deen version of Fate Stay Night.
Steins;Gate 0 is awesome, It shoes us more mature sides of the characters and how much pain Okabe had to endure in order to reach the Steins;Gate worldline. My whole view of the series and its characters changed after S;G 0. I like them much more now. And I wish we can get more...
Man this show deserved to be better than it was. I was so damn tired of the jokes at Maho's expense to her crush on Okabe it was so repetative and boring at times. The original Steins;Gate's "filler" was great character development and adorable friend interactions, MOST of that felt empty here with twice the run time. I didn't HATE this show, moments of brilliance were brilliant and J Michael Tatum needs a damn award already, but MAN this show still dissapointed me, especially animation wise was the budget THAT low or was it just laziness??? Baffling :(
The description is my outlook on most adaptations, Steins;gate was a great adaptation but something so good is very rare. You have anime like Elfen Lied, Grisaia no Kajitsu, DEEN's Fate/Stay Night, TNK's Highschool DxD, Danganronpa, and the new Utawarerumono are all great source materials that got bad/unfaithful adaptations. In particular F/SN UBW and Highschool DxD both got new anime done with the intention to follow the original material, and they're both much better than the previous adaptations because of it
@@MrBronx819 could say that the adaptation makes justice to the manga(they are all trash) but you got a point, they cut the trash making impossible to pratically watch, is far more terrible the show with his end and an OVA for the story of Nyu, is jokeable like the adaptation of Pupa
BeThomsen dunno, they have different perspectives of the anime like a perspective where they think the anime is good. They might want to hear someone say a different opinion and see a different perspective of the anime or something. Just assuming.
S;G0 had a lot of potential but fell pretty short for me personally. Kagari’s entire character arc in particular was pretty dull. And most of the new and returning characters didn’t really contribute anything period. Hiyajo just feels like a replacement for Kurisu with less personality. Mayuri was turned into a boring and one dimensional character. The new girls are just... there for most of the scenes, for no apparent reason. Only Suzuha and professor Leskinen were really that interesting to me. There were also a bunch of really predictable “twists” and “mysteries” that you could see coming miles away. There were more action scenes that the original series and they were even more horribly put together, which is saying something. That’s not to say the the show isn’t watchable, I just don’t think it comes anywhere close to the magic of the original. I think mostly because of the boring and one dimensional characters.
I was able to watch steins;gate and 0 back to back in a way that made them seem like the same show. And I can say with confidence that looking at them as one stand alone entity seriously increases the level of enjoyment. I highly suggest watching through them both then if you want, go back and play the VN
I really cannot recommend S;G Zero to anyone as a huge fan of the series, because: (e.g.) the artstyle was changed to sell more merch by making the characters more busty/ attractive, the characters where less fleshed out and much less organic then before ,the dialoge and story have declined in quality, etc. ... The S;G Zero adaption only exists because of the brilliance of the original Steins;Gate anime, and it pales in comparion. The orginal was made by people who had passion for the VN and made an excellent, faithful adaption, and to me, it felt like the sequel only exists to make money - because they know fans will watch it, even if it is mediocre. It's the same BS fans of Berserk must endure.
idk what your on about lol, S;G Zero is fking lit, got 2 episodes left. I actually thought the first season was meh, never got the hype over it, after watching 0, first season holds so much more importance. lmfao I love going into things blind, cuz when I see comments like this I kinda laugh, then I also feel sad for you lol.
Actually, the art style, specially about the "busty" part, is more faithful to the source material. If you see the original Steins;Gate's Suzuha, the anime version is flat compared to the VN version. The story in 0's visual novel was amazing, but for the way it was presented it was almost impossible to adapt faithfully, and I think they did the best they could, even improving on some parts, like episode 8.
@@meeranhaq9479 the last 2 episodes are amazing, some of the best shit in the entire series. I think even the 0 detractors will admit they were done really well
I disagree to the anime being worse than the visual novel. It's true that they cut plot points from the novel, however the biggest one that was left out was... messy to say the least (the Yuki stuff, basically). Also, I feel like you completely avoided talking about the additions that the anime had. And in my opinion BEAUTIFUL additions. For example (spoilers, I guess) the whole episode in the alpha world line, which is one of the best episodes ever in the whole series (counting the original S;G too), or that one scene in which Okabe and Moeka discover the place in which Kagari was kept. In my opinion the anime is actually a better experience overall in many ways, thanks to these additions and to a more linear storytelling and less confusing plot points (again, Yuki). However, as you said, yes. The adaptation is not perfect. The beginning of episode 4 is extremely stupid and out of place, it has no reason to be there and it's just... bad. And I also agree with the fact that they shouldn't have mentioned the cut content at all. It just leaves the anime only watchers more confused. I'd say that S;G 0 should be experienced with both the anime and the novel, because they both have their strengths and weaknesses that the other doesn't have.
agreed in full. i can see wat you mean about the supposed "daughter" of kurasu. it would have been nice to see her character a bit more fleshed out. i didnt even play the VN an still thought that. tho i must pity you, being patient for the adaptation was well worth it. the only regret i have is starting to watch it wen only 20 episodes were released (the fact that i binge watch brought on a huge weight of anxiety during the last few weeks of waiting for the remaining episodes). though as an anime tied with fullmetal achemist for my #1 favorite of all time, this was just about everything i could have asked for in a sequel. highly recommend to any fan of the 1st season. love ur recent activity after the vacation u seem to have taken. lol. good to have ya back buddy.
after watching digibro savage this series it is nice to see you pick up the pieces and put it back together to something we can all love despite how broken it ultimately is
I can't speak for the visual novel, but the anime was nothing like what I expected. It felt meaningless, like the only reason for it to exist was to cash in on the popularity of the original. Characters and plotlines just felt shoehorned in for the sake of nostalgia, as if to say "you liked Steins;Gate right? Well here's all these characters you know and love, see, they're doing stuff! How is it relevant? Look, boobs! And time travel, you guys like that, yeah? Does it make sense? ...look, more boobs!" I wanted so badly to love this. This had everything it needed to be a Fate/Zero-esque masterpiece and it just fell flat for me. For the first half of the series, I kept telling myself that it would all pick up and get better in the second half...but it didn't. Everything about Kagari especially was a let-down, especially considering how well-written the original was. And the ending was muddled and confusing, to put it mildly.
The anime is trash, even as Kagari is still a dissapointment in the novel, the novel is 10000x better. The anime took pieces of different endings and put it stupidly togheter
@@JacesSanctum I don't really see how it could have turned out any better though, unfortunately. VNs aren't really designed to be linear most of the time, making adaptations difficult. The adaptations of the "chaos" VNs (different series of visual novels by the same developer) didn't really turn out that great either. The og Steins gate, with its particularly linear story, was an exception.
@@christiant.g.994 I'd say Robotics;Notes was another exception (Not amazing, but still pretty good and much better than C;H and C;C), and honestly I agree, there really wasn't a way to adapt it better.
That's exactly what i think as well. In started out interesting but quickly it became totally absurd, had no logic reasoning behind it, was full of stupid decisions and wrong character depictions. And the last episode...wtf, how quickly he then changed back...it was absurd. It felt like a bad fanfiction.
@@KubusSc7 It really did. The original Steins;Gate has been my favourite anime for years. However, there comes a time when you must set aside your personal affection for a specific show and face the fact that it's stupid. Steins;Gate 0 failed in every single category. Literally every single one of them.
All these RVofA videos are so high quality, I feel like I'm being spoiled, it's gonna be a hell of a wait for Arkada to return, let's savour the moment.
Its just sad that we didnt get any Okabe X Maho moments, as understandable as that is. Fortunately, for the die hard shippers theres always the Logic:Gate fanfic.
Let me just shill something here. Steins;Gate isn't the only show in it's series, and the fans of the overarching series as a whole are trying to get more games in the series localized. This is an initiative known as Operation HiddenHand, which currently aims to bring Robotics;Notes to the west, but also wants ChäoS;HEAd NoAH. Check out twitter.com/ophiddenhand for more info.
Not really sure why but watching SG:0 broke my heart, seeing everybody depressed (especially mayuri) was heart wrenching.A part of me wishes that I never watched it.

I have that feeling that never goes away from watching it. It is just..... I don't know what to say, it is hands down my favorite thing that could ever be viewed on a screen. Don't think I am being over dramatic or anything, that is honestly how I feel.

The whole episode dedicated to the Beta line that was only a 10 minute scene in the Vn was heartbreaking

People have leveled complaints at Zero against MAHO?! I have literally never seen a single complaint against her, I've always seen people say that Maho was one of the best parts of 0.
Maho and Maho's bio hazard of a hairdo are some of the best parts of Zero.
Maho was great, the people criticizing her are mad that she was stealing Kurisu's place.
i couldn't speak of the VN as i never play it
but for the anime , the best surprising part was the addition zero did to mayuri and daru characters , they are far more superior in terms of characterization from the original
as we see the motivation for daru to build the time machine and specific scene which surprise the hell out of us
and the same could be said about mayuri
Maho was great too
@@MohamedSalahUA-cam Daru best dad of the year.
And
there's nothing could be more excited than suddenly hearing hacking to the gate kicks in in the last episode of SG0 .
thats just nonsensical
Fancy seeing you here lol
Both Steins Gate 0 and the OG Steins Gate are incredible
*Spoilers for VN*
To be honest, I feel like there was no way to properly adapt zero, as the true ending required two extremely different plot lines.
Now that I’ve watched 0 I feel empty again like when I watched steins gate. Time to search for something that will fill the hole in my heart 😢

it was boring, cringey and badly animated ... the first one was great tho
adolf hitler I didn’t know Hitler watched anime
ngl loved the og but really hated zero. I felt like there was so much wasted potential.
that ending though
So you started using gigguk's style of not showing your face while gigguk started using your style of videos , nice
Gigguk is still more comedy focused though. I think Ark does now what he's always done best, get to the heart of a show, of what we all love about anime. He's gotten me to watch so many shows throughout the years because of this.
@@ShroomRPG Just because you laugh doesnt mean its comedy. its probably just so true you have to laugh at yourself :(
@@ShroomRPG Agreed! Ark is way more analytical on a serious level, and Gigguk is analytical, but as you said is waaaay more comedy focused. But he always speaks the truth!
Yea, I mean who is that guy at 0:36 that talks for over a minute. Where is Arcada
That is WEIRD.
STOP WITH THE 3 MINUTES ACTION SCENE ARGUMENT ALREADY
Steins;Gate 0 was more of a sequel to Stein;Gate than it was an adaptation of the Steins;Gate 0 VN.
Here is my interpratation about Steins;Gate 0 (and how the VN and the anime complete each other):
"In terms of worldline iteration chronology, the events of the anime takes place between VA and MWC.
But the other Okabes was also needed for the success."
Secondly, you are always talking about closed loops.
@@SeralyneYT Oh yeah, I know it. But yeah, I agree, I should mention this too.
Dood! You should be a Steins;Gate UA-camr and make videos! This was info that not even I was aware of.
It might just be my bias as an SG fanboy speaking but SG 0 was hands down my best show of 2018 BY FAR.
same
sounds about right
I agree, but not by far. Golden Kamuy is a VERY close second.
@@madengineerkyouma Golden kamuy is pretty good. My #2 though would have to go to Violet Evergarden followed by Hinamatsuri at #3.
The moment Kyouma returned, I almost fell from the seat
When I first watched steins gate (very recently) my friend told me to watch up until the part where Okabe comes back from failing to save Kurisu, then watch Steins Gate 0, then come back to Steins Gate. Definitely a good decision.
Oh man, that was a risk, but glad it worked for you. I definitely would not recommend that for other people.
@@SonicSpeed440 why? i also watched it in chronological order and imo it was great.
That said, I do have a warning for anyone wanting to see the 0 anime dubbed:
The dub is absolute garbage. The writers clearly didn't read the source material or do even the most basic of research and it shows.
The first episode of the dub has a Maho literally speaking Japanese in the dub. This could have been avoided by having Leskinen speak Finnish in the background. Instead they chose to have Maho speak Japanese because Leskinen is very much American (never mind the name being extremely common in Finland and that the Epigraphmanga design was based off the Finnish prime minister at the time)
The dub also manages to remove catchphrases that does have quite the bit of plot relevance.
The dub makes the more agregious missteps of these, where it turns it into a freeform poem:
"The universe may not have a discernable end, it's infinite, but it had a beginning.
These words, they're meant for those foolhardy enough to defy the Councils of Fate,
An Epigraph for their Obstinance."
Compare this to the VN version:
"The universe has a beginning, but no end.
This is the epigraph of their obsession."
The word choice obsession is incredibly important here, as this is a common theme of all of SciADV, which repeats itself in all of them.
Thanks for the info..So what's the final correct version after all the corrections?
The vn one seems more accurate to me...
Literally from the logo:
"There is no end though there is a start in space - Infinity.
It can be said that this is an final ultimatum from the god to the people who can fight."
FUNimation takes great care with the repeated phrases for the SciAdv to be consistent (They have all five entires thus far), see Chaos;Head/Robotics;Notes for "Whose eyes are those?" which was localized to "Those eyes, whose are they?".
@@OtakuLunar >Liberties with logo text because the original is a mess
I agree that the logo subtext is a mess. That's why the translations fix these.
>Funimation takes great care of repeated phrases
Yes.
>OG Scripts by Tatum
I'm not really sure how confident I am in Tatum's knowledge of Steins;Gate or SciADV. His Steins;Gate (OG) recap is what makes me question it. Generally, I am not fond of Tatum myself, I don't like his Hououin Kyouma, but that's up to personal preference.
>Okey-dokey
Yes, after the writers realized that it was re-occuring. There was a removed "Okey-dokey" in Episode 1, which was dubbed as "I am SO on it!". Further supports my theory that the 0 scriptwriters know even less than Tatum.
>Maho/Leskinen
Maho is a Japanese-American.
>Tanabata
Until you realize what Tanabata actually is.

Pretty much this.
Though I'm not entirely sure I'd agree on it having the best OP though XD

I wouldn't even call it bad compared to the original. Just a bit worse. I'd give Steins;Gate a 10/10 (and I only gave one other series in all my life a 10/10), and 0 a 9/10
The opening is great, but Golden Kamuy 2 has the best song, Zombieland Saga has the best visuals and Jojo part 5 is the best overall.
Though technically Mahoutsukai no Yome's 2nd opening (the version they use for the last episode) was my favourite this year.

Exactly my feeling, i would be very pleased if this is how Steins Gate ends, the second season really showed almost no weakness against the first season.
@@majestic6592 cant agree more brother people hate way too much to zero but for me some moments in it hitted harder than any scene of original or any anime in general mainly okabe leaping 3000 times and the laugh scene when he was laughing while we all were crying after seeing him overcoming from that much trauma being hyoumin kyouma again chills man and the declaration of war on top of radio building to leskenin saying this is the choice of steins gate and also him saving mayuri and suzuha at end in unknown earth i think i remember more scenes from zero than original in more hype moments and people dont know the highest rated ep on imdb in both parts is ep 21 of steins Gate zero still people cant get though it
The anime adaptation of 0 is way too obvious when it comes to who's the villain, while when I was reading the VN, I was like "wtf Leskinen?"

You start by saying it's a terrible idea but you continue to explain why it works,I'm confused.
I probably got the best experience with 0, having watched the first series, but long enough ago that I forgot about several key details, most importantly the video from Okabe's future self. So it was actually a surprise for me that this timeline tied back to the ending of the original series.
I hope the title means what I think it means-
My thoughts regarding the anime:
S;G 0 Visual Novel: This game is all about Kagari.
S;G 0 Anime Adaptation: Where the heck is Kagari's story?!
Wow, I actually asked for it 2 days ago and GlassReflection actually uploads his points of view about Steins;Gate 0. This is a happy holiday!
Still gave it a 10/10, cuz it's Steins;Gate
What I like about steins;gate is that even if they don't show or explain everything, you can still understand it all somehow, there's been many times during watching the series when I wanted to just open youtube and watch some explanation videos. But then I thought about it for a little and suddenly it all made sense.
I seen an action scene from 0 and all I could say was OOOF.
The badly animated one? well it's true that Steins;Gate isn't the best anime when it comes to fighting scenes... but that's really nowhere near the focus of the story
Yeah I agree, that scene was really off putting, but compared to how well literally everything else is animated, I didn't mind.
I'd say it was the only bad part of the series. Also the BlueRay version improves the animation A LOT.
i'm getting tired of the action scene argument
it was literally less than 3 minutes !
and the original didn't have an action scenes to begin with
So WTF does everyone mean when comparing this scene to the original and saying the original was better !!? what are you comparing this scene to ?
@@MohamedSalahUA-cam It was bad. I didn't mind it, I don't really care about action in this kind of series, and I LOVE S;G 0, but we can't deny that specific little scene was bad.
Still a 9/10 series and one of the best of the year along with Golden Kamuy and the ending of Mahoutsukai no Yome.
last 2 years how long i watch your channel, for anime your videos are fun to watch and your opinion have credibility because in most of time your recommendations i did like. so i hope that your work continue in next years !!!
I balled my eyes out through the entirely of Steinsgate 0. I don't know why but I found it to be incredibly emotional. I loved it!
Loved it!!! I watched your previous video before the anime was released and now this one. You are really good! thank you.
I can't believe he called it Steins;Gate 0/10
"Too many characters, NOT GOOD" - Anthony Fantano
(I love Anthony Fantano)
Is this for real? That said it's not that hard to have mental slips every now and again. Especially since all that separate the titles is a simple "0".
You run that shtick on Melon's page, buddy! Not on these sacred holy grounds!
The Steins;Gate 0 anime is amazing! To think the anime adaptation doesn't quite live up to the original is expected, but also a good reason for me to get into it again when I revisit it in the future!!
I just got S;G out of my system..... Now I gotta rewatch it
So, I just recently re-finished watching Steins;Gate to then watch the movie for the first time, and now of course start S;G 0.
1 day left for the ovaaaaa......
Loved hearing your viewpoint. Thank you for making this!
4 days 4 posts???? Is this really Glass Reflection??
It's nice to see that some people really enjoy Steins;Gate 0 the anime, knowing that many others think it's really lacking.
This video changed my mind about Steins;Gate 0, and I think that now, 1 week after watching Steins;Gate and the amazing movie for the first time and 1 day after watching it again with my friend, I'm going to give Steins;Gate 0 another chance. Thank you for this. This really is the beat anime of all time.
The soundtrack at 6:15 already almost got me to tears. God, I love this anime.
Same here, it was _such_ a great part in the VN! ;___;
OG S;G was a lot better directed though. And how does deception have anything to do with the characters changing personalities?
People think that okabe’s mad scientist persona was his real personality when that was hardly true. Plus I already said that the original was better.
You should make a video of your complete anime collection,
Maybe go over a few of your favourites, would be really cool to see!
I started buying & collecting anime myself about 3 years ago,
and as a fellow enthusiast I would love to see all the gems you have gathered over the years!
Thanks!
Steins Gate 0 anime is 50% slice of life. Too much time wasted. Instead more could have been explained about Kagari and helmeted assassins
i thought the reason they didnt introduce kagari till season 2 was because mayuri dies in ever other world line and she only comes to the past in zero because it's the world line where mayuri lives and adopts her in the future
I feel like a lot of good would come of you and Digibro having a podcast-like discussion.
Agreed. It just ruined the legacy of the original Steins;Gate, which was in my opinion near perfect.
I also agree.
yeah, i kinda have to forget the OG steins gate for a moment to enjoy 0, that's a bad sign.
Baffling :(
@Lain Someone's been watching Digibro...
@
Kelly Joule
I agree with everything you said and goddamn, Leskinen was indeed getting annoying with the same goddamn lame jokes.
In particular F/SN UBW and Highschool DxD both got new anime done with the intention to follow the original material, and they're both much better than the previous adaptations because of it
I guess you knew about how TNK fucked up Highschool DxD S3.
wait, so there is people who believes that Elfen Lied is good?
@@cloverfield085 I really liked the manga, it was really dark and had a sad ending but I finished it in a couple sittings
@@MrBronx819 could say that the adaptation makes justice to the manga(they are all trash) but you got a point, they cut the trash making impossible to pratically watch, is far more terrible the show with his end and an OVA for the story of Nyu, is jokeable like the adaptation of Pupa
Can you review Happy sugar life
Ian Botello Yes please
Ugh why?
BeThomsen They want to hear opinions from him I guess.
but its just trash, what else would one want to hear
BeThomsen dunno, they have different perspectives of the anime like a perspective where they think the anime is good. They might want to hear someone say a different opinion and see a different perspective of the anime or something. Just assuming.
Steins gate is like a video game with 3 endings : Good ending (None dies ) , bad ending. (Mayushii dies ) , secret ending (Stein gates 0 ending)
I thought that this was the perfect side story for a time travel anime
There is no Steins;Gate without proper, real Makise Kurisu. A cheap AI/clone substitute will simply not do.
I was able to watch steins;gate and 0 back to back in a way that made them seem like the same show. And I can say with confidence that looking at them as one stand alone entity seriously increases the level of enjoyment.
I highly suggest watching through them both then if you want, go back and play the VN
Had to drop this one mid season, its terrible
that moment when slapping to the gate begun made me smile
I really cannot recommend S;G Zero to anyone as a huge fan of the series, because: (e.g.) the artstyle was changed to sell more merch by making the characters more busty/ attractive,
the characters where less fleshed out and much less organic then before ,the dialoge and story have declined in quality, etc.
The story was written into anime form by the same exact person tho
idk what your on about lol, S;G Zero is fking lit, got 2 episodes left.
I think even the 0 detractors will admit they were done really well
So Suzuha and Mayuri DID look different from the first anime! I knew it!
Oh boy, ive been waiting on this review for a long time.
Yuki is just a red herring and Daru's gf. She has no character of her own so to speak of.
Also boobs.
@@PinClockFuntime Yeah. In the anime. Not in the VN. Also, she's not really such a flat character (that honor goes to Kaede)
agreed in full. i can see wat you mean about the supposed "daughter" of kurasu. it would have been nice to see her character a bit more fleshed out. i didnt even play the VN an still thought that. tho i must pity you, being patient for the adaptation was well worth it. the only regret i have is starting to watch it wen only 20 episodes were released (the fact that i binge watch brought on a huge weight of anxiety during the last few weeks of waiting for the remaining episodes). though as an anime tied with fullmetal achemist for my #1 favorite of all time, this was just about everything i could have asked for in a sequel. highly recommend to any fan of the 1st season. love ur recent activity after the vacation u seem to have taken. lol. good to have ya back buddy.
Steins;Gate 0 was one of the biggest disappointement of the year.
Not the worst anime, disappointement.
after watching digibro savage this series it is nice to see you pick up the pieces and put it back together to something we can all love despite how broken it ultimately is
I can't speak for the visual novel, but the anime was nothing like what I expected. Does it make sense? ...look, more boobs!"
I wanted so badly to love this.
Overall, I'm just sad at how the anime turned out.
I don't understand the fate/zero comparison. What exactly did it have that it needed?
@@christiant.g.994 I'd say Robotics;Notes was another exception (Not amazing, but still pretty good and much better than C;H and C;C), and honestly I agree, there really wasn't a way to adapt it better.
took me 4 videos in a row to realize this is review week of awesome...
*Steins;Gate 0 was the biggest disappointment of the year.*
**SteinsGateFanboy69 disliked that**
Yes.
Never really expected it to live up to the main series success, can't be disappointed if you didn't expect anything.
Steins;Gate 0 was my fav anime last year. The first ending theme was amazing and it just came together so well.
Both visual novels are on steam. Let,s buy it,people. Steam needs more VN.
Before I even watch this, I gotta say, I am very very happy you made this video.
Not really sure why but watching SG:0 broke my heart, seeing everybody depressed (especially mayuri) was heart wrenching.A part of me wishes that I never watched it.
I loved Steins;Gate 0. Fantastic review. The characters have much conceptions of reality. I liked much that all plot and feelings of all characters.
I'd say other than a few animation problems and the rooftop fight, it was almost perfect.
No matter how much I talk about Steins;Gate, I can never express how I feel towards it, it is something far beyond any other anime I have seen. I have that feeling that never goes away from watching it. It is just..... I don't know what to say, it is hands down my favorite thing that could ever be viewed on a screen.
Don't think I am being over dramatic or anything, that is honestly how I feel.
loved to hear you do an audible book on things like the manga novels
I can easily say steins gate (and zero ) is my favourite anime of all time 😭😭 I love it ❤❤
