This is exactly what I was looking for when I looked up this piece. She really put everything into that piece. I've listened to a few other versions, but so far this is my favorite.
coffeespoons this is is late but try listening to Rubinstein
@@tobiaslim4709 If they're looking up Chopin I highly doubt they didn't listen to Rubenstein.
thefinalshoe surprisingly I haven’t even heard him play this one lol
Listen to the astonishing airshot by Myra Hess from the late '40s.
Listen to vilentina
i have always been a huge fan of tiffany, but she outdid herself this performance. the way she nods her head, as if she is having a conversation. the musicality and emotions displayed just from piano to her put her beyond any other pianist, giving soul and life to a piece that already held so much potential. absolutely gorgeous.
The head nodding is profoundly obnoxious for me
@@Bigblackpiano why? people have different reactions to music. if anything youre the one who's obnoxious.
When I was a little girl, many years ago, there was a movie called "A Song to Remember" about the life of Chopin. At the end of the movie, as Chopin was dying, the character, Liszt, played this Nocturn. I've loved it ever since.
Cornell Wilde, played Chopin...good movie ~
One of the most heartfelt, exquisitely detailed, duly dark performances of the mighty nocturne I've ever heard. What can one do but weep and give thanks for a realization so precious, so worthy of Chopin?!
Indeed, I say! Quite exquisite and robust... perchance.
My favourite Chopin Nocturne. This piece is very difficult to interpret, I could feel the desperation, every emotion flowed perfectly. That was real.
She is living this music. It's so amazing
So much melancholy, such frightening night terror and impotent passion exhale from this nocturn 48 1.
Today my heart is also filled with this sentiment, dear Hong Kong Chopin Artist.
Absolutely on par if not better than the people who passed, no reason why she should've been eliminated with such soulful dynamics, what a shame. I know you'll have success beyond this competition tiffany, you are destined for greatness and beyond.
compare 0:24 with the same notes that Cho plays, and compare the doppio movements between the two. She played very well, but she made more minor mistakes than Cho did, especially with the doppio
@@enriquemandas2330
I remember an interview she once gave - where she admitted that she is more concerned about being primarily involved with the Spirit and emotion of Chopin's work ...that a few minor mistakes are not as important as being immersed in the soul of the music. Her performances have been faithful to this commitment. Each pianist has unique talents - many of us are grateful to benefit from what she offers ❤
This is my favorite Chopin nocturne. But in order for it to truly resonate with the listener's soul it must be performed with exquisite musical sensitivity.
This is a sublime rendering. She has truly captured the score. Five stars.
Absolutely magnificent. For years, I've had a favorite recording of this nocturne, yours just dethroned it. So much control, power, and passion. Thanks so much for such an incredible performance!
Out of curiosity, what was your previous favorite recording?
@@yellow92959 Idil Biret, Naxos label
loved it also, but I play it better than Tiffany in my opinion
@@idanlanda6761 you should record yourself then!
@@idanlanda6761😋😋😋😋😎😎😎
Such brilliant sound, emotion and expressiveness. One of the best performances of this piece I've ever seen or heard. The jury screwed up eliminating her
She puts her entire soul in this, stunning performance
The "Doppio movimento" at the end is played in a fantastic way - a perfect singing melody in this extremely hard part (melody line and massiv chords in the same hand).
She perfoms this masterpiece like if she was a Polish. Emotions above perfection. Soul above the skills. Chopin (Szopen) musicwise means Poland. Believe me. I am one of them. And I am proud that this genious, sensitive and close to pefrection Individual gave us this one of a kind gem. Pure passion. Kocham ten występ, interpretację. Kocham wsszystkie pomyłki, wynikające z pasji, wrażliwości, prawdziwego czucia muzyki Szopena.
Gratulacje. Słucham niemal każdego dnia, a mimo to czekam na kolejny raz.
Chopin's heart was directly connected to Poland. Chopin's music speaks through the entire world
Tiffany's perfect rubato and perfect expression are two of the many ways in which she brings music to life with such loving beauty that her music sounds as if it loves her in return. Awesome performance as always! Very well done!!!
Her hallmark is her feather-soft touch
This is such a beautiful nocturne. And how Tiffany Poon plays this, with so much feeling.
Probably my favourite interpretation of this beautiful nocturne.
Dear Tiffany, please keep playing like you do now and keep on introducing us to all the beautiful pieces of Chopin which can not be better heard then from your hands and therefore your interpretation. I'm beyond amazed, every time.. Chapeau girl!
This is a very hard piece to play. Out from that fact Tiffany makes an impressive pianoplaying here. Both very beautyfull, intense and dramatic. Perfect - and really unbelieavble she was not in the finals. Bravo Tiffany!!
A very emotional performance, and I like it! Most people don't put so much emotional energy into the "Doppio Movimento" as she did!
Amazing interpretation of this nocturne! Perhaps my favourite recording to date. Loved the gorgeous tone and tasteful rubato in the C major section. No loss of clarity through chromatic octaves. Amazing voicing and flow in the final section. Absolutely stunning performance!! I am learning this piece and this is such an inspiration, Tiffany you are amazing!
Its one of my favorites version too, but i reaaaaally love the Yundi Li ´s version on Spotify, you should listen if you didn’t ;)
Tiffany is still going strong. The judges are long forgotten.
Huh? Long forgotten? Like Yundi? Argerich? Ohlsson?
@@aeroslothy I'm very active on classical music comment section. But I don't know if I gatekeep that often (if any). Nice to know you, nonetheless.
She scares me with this performance.
Goosebumps galore, so beautiful. And how she plays those large chords with such ease...
This is so beautiful. Tiffany thanks to young great performers like you classical music still is alive and brought into a new level.I hope you can aspire more people.
Literally I love every single pieces she plays. How talented she is.
Agreed
Stunning rendition..my favourite one..she owns it completely giving it such a modern and epic air at the same time. Greetins Tiffany
one of the most impressive pianist i have ever heard for this nocturne
This is technically difficult Nocturne, but Tiffany plays it with great feeling.
this piece isnt technically difficult compared to other nocturnes
secondintelligentWorld this is the most difficult nocturne. Name one other that is more difficult
secondintelligentWorld it seems you understand nothing in music try and play it
@@paulsheehan5087 :The Op 62 Nocturnes are more difficult. Do you play the piano? I wonder if you are just being dazzled by octaves and mistake them for a technical difficulty.
@@thomasmartin6046 It is not the octaves that are difficult. They may seem intimidating but you just have to play them over and over again to make them fluent. The hard part is the last section where the theme returns at double tempo and triplets both in the right and left hand. And also to top that off you have to play the rapid triplets very light while playing the melody with your pinky. If this is not enough the part after the first theme where you play in C major is harder than you think. I actually hurt my hand playing some of the tenths not arpeggiated(I did end up playing them not arpeggiated) and all of this is easier than op 62? One or two fast scales and trills are harder than this? C'mon man.
This is just too good! This might be my go-to recording now. Thank you Tiffany. Fabulous!
Wow, one of the best recordings I heard! Correction: THE best recording.
Indeed
not even close, many mistakes

1:21 hits me right in the feels every time I listen to it.
Just an amazing young pianist. I get thrills listening to her play. So inspiring.
Such a mesmerising performance! All her interpretation and phrasing was on point! Just can’t imagine how much it practice she’s put in this nocturne to perform it at this level! Such an amazing work!!!
Manifestation of beauty ❤
This nocturne was played much better by Poon here than most by most of the other contestants. Poon can certainly color her sounds and her touch was very supple. I really don't know why she was eliminated just after round 1. The feckless jury must answer to the public outcry. It was outrageous that Poon was eliminated and violated just like that. It was a brazen violation of public trust.
Seong-Jin has her beat. But no one else imo.
After Lisitsa's version this is a little boring and not very cohesive. Not as strong an idea of the whole. Sounds a little blue ad dry, not uplifting and bright
comment I don’t understand why so many people think Valentina Lisitsa is actually good. She is very technically skilled but her interpretation of this nocturne is so shallow and she plays it way too fast.
It’s fine for someone to play Liszt like that because Liszt was a showman more than anything but playing Chopin like that is just disrespectful.
Lisista’s Chopin is the worst I’ve ever heard. I wish she would delete her Chopin waltzes.
@@ilovemycatrussell9298 yo so true. Her op 69 no 1 is so bad it hurts. She plays it like fkin rondo
1:14 I have listened to this video so many times that I’m starting to really like this sound effect.
There is no secret that all sorts of factors govern the outcome of a competition such as this. From personal taste of jurors to personal interest. On the side of the contestants, a few unconventional slippages can be costly. In this case, I do not think Tiffany was at fault the way it turned out. Well, a polished diamond will always shine. I look forward to hear more good news about her. She deserves it.
Now we know you again, dear girl! With this performance, you are showing that you have the nature of a true artist. With this performance, you nearly get the total grab of what the term 'art' actually means. Something extraordinary will grow out of this, sooner or later, without a doubt!! Keep up the very good work!
Bravo! The best performance i've ever seen
A breathtaking & mesmerizing performance as always, Tiffany. ❤️❤️ You are art in motion.
Very sensitive, emotional, deep profound feelings. Thank you . Good luck.
Absolutely beautiful playing. Why are there so many dislikes?
+PikaPianist probably disliking the jury's decision
Dislikes for the jury.... I think
Because she do that with her head.
PikaPianist I think Seong Jin Cho is the better
성태규 that is no reason to dislike
Beautifully played, congrat dear Tiffany. I love this nocturne.
this rendition is absolutely brilliant
amazing performance, best interpretation for nocturne C minor ever
Just subscribed to her youtube channel and this video was recommended. Not sure about the judges but her performance moved me
Love to know there is still such talent in the world!
For me, it's the best performance of the nocturne I've heard.
Leo T then you need to hear more pianists
One of the possible reasons she's eliminated from advancing ---- She missed a chord on the left hand at 00:25. You can barely notice it but judges would immediately recognize that mistake and it's kind of a big no no in the piano world. Otherwise I really love her performance on this nocturne.
Well her performance was sure enjoyable, no doubt. But technically does not stand out among all the contestant, and there was Cho as well playing the piece... There was a quite resounding messed chord in the end of the middle section near 3:30 to 4:00 ~ as well. But more importantly and I think it's why she didn't pass, is because that's a nocturne and I think many people here are forgetting what it means. Her performance, throughout the whole piece, was just too fiery and passionate in my opinion for a above recital level degree of exigeance. That's not really, actually, the Chopin spirit this competition's judges are after. This extremely subtile mix of nostalgia, contemplation, grief, and sometimes only, fury.
@@rowanwild8445 Your insights are right on spot. But i do want to mention that most people do not care about the extremity of perfection. It's admirable to care about the originality of composer's intents but this is also why classical music industry is so culturally stagnant and antiquated. Fresh and diverse interpretations like hers should be cherished and supported. And individual creativity and musicality should be appreciated in this diverse and interconnected society.
@@CreativelyMelodicDiscovery Sure, I think we can all agree. The fact is that the recital culture has radicaly changed what the community expect of a pianist performer. Recitals have brought a new era to pianists, and the end of the late romantic era. To be fair, they indirectly even doomed the already ending great composers era by the way, as the expectations of a world-class pianist grew so ridiculously high and strict that it became nearly impossible to be both a renown performer and renown composer. So strict, that a standard has been established for almost every pieces, *there's a way of playing it* and so high that the amount of practice needed to get to this level left certainly no time for the increasingly complex composition techniques and sometimes not even for regular school education.
@@rowanwild8445 That is so very true! I remember having a master class on stage with a big time concert pianist and he was basically telling me that his way was the only way to play a certain piece. And my reply agitated him- "But I have my interpretations on the piece and you won't let me express it?" His expressions made me felt like my music freedom of speech was being silenced haha. After the master class I saw mixed reactions where some music students were giving me this look like "how dare you challenge him" but I also saw certain faculties were nodding and smiling at me with thumbs up and be like "yeah that's the way to do it." lol Anyway- I suppose you are still in the classical business?
@@CreativelyMelodicDiscovery Classical business ??
Tiffany‘s version is unique... she was young and passionate...At 04:07 she used a way that is different from other to perform. While other expressed the feeling of a silent desperation, Tiffany had more on that...it might be anger? or something other... It makes me feel even more emotional and despair...
and…
the sudden diminishing of volume at 1:09…perfect! Although other’s performances might also have their volume diminished at the same sentence, Tiffany’s performance is definitely more delicate. It seems that she is using the change of volume to emphasize that sentence as well as to create a atmosphere to make everything freezes in that moment…
최고의 연주를 여기서 찾게됐네요.. 와
Tiffany is inspired and masterly. She will have success without this competition.
and you were right!
조성진님도 너무 좋았지만 티파니님도 진짜 잘치셨네요.
진짜 제 제 마음속 투탑..
This is such a good performance, this is already my third time listening to this recording!!
I listened, waiting to hear what I had been searching for and to my delight this performance had everything I could have wanted from no. 13. Thank you for this truly amazing performance Ms. Poon!
this piece is an emotional roller coaster
This is too Beautiful.
she pays more attention to the sotto voce marking than most performers imo

Every time I listen to this girl play, tears are always streaming down my face. Can’t listen to her anymore 😂
This is a divine performance. Completely shaken.
My favorite interpretation. ^^

Best Chopin!!!!!!
L' INJUSTICE ne change rien à son talent, elle reste la meilleure pianiste pour beaucoup de monde ...

Exceptional and very interesting performance of this beautiful Chopin nocturne 👏
Beautiful.
I actually teared up at the third section
a true artist !

Impresive. Fantàstic. Full of soul.
OMG! Chills and suspense! This was incredible.
The recordings are SO QUIET. I can hardly hear them in my headphones.
But, what I can hear is amazingly beautiful.
Though I'm not and never have been a big Chopin fan, Tiffany Poon plays beautifully.
That was perfection!
Cheers!!
Heavenly music, perfectly played. It doesn't get any better than this.
best rendition of this nocturne to me !
the top spiritual harmony in this noct is great maybe more than a wood. your smiling simpathy gives to to this extreme level of art the importance of genius
Listening to this chokes me up.
After 3 months rehearsal, I don't find this song easy anymore.. but slowly increasing speed. Due to Corona I sell no POS to Chinese restaurants the next year, so time enough to rehearse and may finish this song in 2021. It's the best from Tiffany, although Op.27 No.2 was also nice to practice this year.
This piece is the most difficult nocturne

Whoever watching from doppio movemento, look at that furious octave jumping first.
Lovely performance……glad Ms Tiff hangin’ in there…….very high level Artistry
Better than many who passed.
