This is exactly the video I needed to see = been watching Tech Yes City OC X58's and decided to go ahead and build one, Your video is extremely helpful Thank You : )))
Am also a Citizen of Yes City, nice meeting a neighbor... Just bought my first x58 PC and orderd a GPU and X5675 just waiting for it to land and do some overclocking
Last year I got a Xeon X5670 for 16 bucks on ebay - works fine in my p6-x58d-e (similar board) at 4.2Ghz (running at 4Ghz stable 73 degrees C) I also picked up a really nice EVGA 980 Ti superclocked last week for 145 bucks and it works very well, 1420Mhz GPU stable overclock, runs Witcher 3 all day long with ultra settings at 1080. I am amazed my nearly 12 year old system, with less than 200 bucks of upgrades can run like a modern high end PC costing many hundreds more!
Love watching these old X58 videos, just upgraded my system from an old i7 920 on a Gigabyte UD5 with 24gb triple channel memory and a really old ASUS GTX 460 to a Xeon 5680 with a Gigabyte 1050ti 4gb WF OC edition, getting 80-100FPS in nearly all current AAA titles, apart from Minecraft, that still plays at 5FPS :-)... you can stick your RayTracing where the sun don't shine RTX, as I often think "wow I look great in this mirror" just before I waste someone lol....
Did you do anything on your UD5 to make the x5680 run? I have the gigabyte x58a-ud5 on i7 920 and i tried the x5675, it turns on but gets stucked at 89 or 68 message on my mobo LED. You have any tips?
I did the same with my pc, i had my 930 at 4ghz clocked but its a higher tdp, 45nm process it's just an older chip(got hotter same temp as yours at 4ghz) it did perform great 611 cb in cinebench running rock solid at 4ghz. But I decided to upgrade to a x5675, got it from china. Passed IDT also at 4ghz 1.23vcore. Hits 900cb now :) 1444 single thread in cpu-z temp goes up to about 65c under full load 19c room temp. So happy with that at a really good price.
Great to know, i also have a 930 that has run at 4ghz for 9 years now. Just bought an x5675 as i never even knew i could do this. So looking forward to pushing it to 4 or even 4.2ghz when it arrives. To the other fella . Well i a 1060 6gb and it runs fine on my asus p6-58 e mobo which is very similar. Though i assume youve found your answer by now. Haha
Issue 1: Clean (toothbrush, air can) the heatsink fins of dust before reinstalling. Issue 2: Always Q-Tip at least the leading edge of the cooling fan - both noise and efficiency issue. Issue 3: After applying Arctic Silver, take heat sink back off to verify full coverage w. HS compound. Issue 4: Plug fan power in and set aside; then install the heat sink, then attach fan. Saves wrestling with power plug, in tight space between HS and enclosure. Really good video! Useful information on research approach. The follow-on video on overclocking was also very good and informative. Nice job!
really great video man! love that you detailed the shopping and research you did in addition to the actual upgrade and benchmarking! helps out SO much, so thank you!!
Dude x5650 overclocks really well, just like x5660. They're all the same CPU really. I'm running mine @4.0ghz with turbo core enabled. Averages around 40 idle and 67 load and 55 gaming hyper 612 v2.
Running a p6td v2 with a x5675 @ 4.3ghz 24/7, but will easily do 4.5 although my thermal solution isn't optimal at the moment. Using Duet to boot from an NVMe. 1000 in Cinebench and 17838 in Firestrike (GTX1080) on a 10 year old MB and 7 year old CPU, gotta love getting decent performance with old tech.
What an awesome video, I am doing the very same thing (i7 920 to a Xeon x5670) so I can run VMWare Workstation 15, this shows me everything I need to know to pull this off, I'd have never tried before!
This was a great video to watch. Very interesting. I have an old dell xps 9000 that I just upgraded from i7 920 to xeon X5690. I had kind of the same problem at first with it coming up in bios at 2.66 ghz like my 920. Even in windows. But bios is locked so all I could do is restart and pray. It adjusted itself luckily to 3.46 ghz. Only thing now is Speedstep seems to only work on first core (clocks down to x12) and the rest stuck at x26. It doesn't respond to windows power management at all and bios is yeahhh...it's a dell bios. I know for sure turbo doesn't work on this bios, but throttlestop software workaround at least gets the cores to 27x. Again, great vid.
I have a 920 that I was running on water, with a ROG Rampage 2 Extreme @ 4.0ghz for years, until last year it burned up a plug. I now have this board and I just picked up a Xeon x5660 for $23 :) Gonna try to install it next week!
Good demo of possibilities. I have a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 Zwith an originsl i7-920 as well. I was planning to upgrade to Ceon X5675. I haven't seen your final video but; apparently that model gives a stable 4.5GHz on the X58. I look forward to see you next videos!
I just got a P6T Deluxe bundled with an I7 920 the other day for £130. The guy wanted £130 just for the motherboard and I told him "Look, I need to install all the drivers manually and I'm paying in cash, throw in your 920 and THEN i'll pay £130" He accepted and now I've got the 920 running at 4.0ghz under a corsair h110 and an X5660 coming on tuesday. It's a bit of a sidegrade from my 3570K because I'm not losing any gaming performance however I'm starting to get into streaming and video editing/rendering which the 6 cores with hyperthreading will benefit me greatly!
luckyshottzZZ the overclocked xeon rapes your 3570k. Even in games. But yeah I also got a mobo,i7 920, 6gb of ram, and a cooler master v8 for 120 euros. I need to order my xeon, but I'm gonna try to oc the i7.
For People in 2023 there are 2 types of x58 Xeons the X & W versions. The X can do duel sockets and supports more memory but is more limited with OC the W is only single socket it’s just a better binned processor than the i series with Xeon features it’s fully unlocked. The w3690 is the 990x for example.
Thanks for the information. I'd like to add that you should only try using one of these older processors if you already have a motherboard that will support it. Trying to put together a inexpensive system from scratch using a processor this old and a motherboard this old and ram this old for that matter is not cost-effective. The vast majority of times. You're better off spending that money on much newer if not new parts.
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy You can get some decent deals on the 2011 platform nowadays. I’d suggest going that rout if you can find a decent motherboard that is. Kind of a trend older platforms always having higher costs on the motherboard. As to X58 they can be found at a decent price in bundles on locals although I’d say at most people have 2-3 years before they are just not worth it at all. There is also an L Xeon variant that has higher cores at lower speed I forgot to mention that. I’d say that x58 still has life if not for OC practice/pc building practice. I have a few motherboards I set up and donated to local kids for fortnight which they do well with the Spector/meltdown updates removed. I hate seeing working stuff go to landfills and recycling isn’t up to the task as of yet. I’ll do a video on x58 here see what kind of gpu maxes it out at 4.5 on air. Apparently there was also an i7 x995 but it either wasn’t released or is exceedingly rare I’ll try to hunt one down for the collection of mine.
@@michaelwoods7770 A little more info. Just because an older platform has the number of CPU cores, frequency, ram capacity, whatever it is, it will not perform the same as the current platform. Do the math on a full system based on older parts vs a current system cost. Also older parts are likely to fail. There are also compability issues to consider, mixing old and current. hardware If it still seems like a good idea, go for it.
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy I guess it comes down to what you’ll be using them for and what you can afford. I’ve dealt with new hardware as it comes out and I’ve had far more problems with these newer platforms more so than the older strangely enough maybe cause I use AMD for the newer stuff and Intel for older. Purchasing older used things come with inherent risks for sure especially without a warranty but I’d imagine that most people buy used things in todays market. I make a bit of profit from building these older used systems which I back with replacements myself as that’s just how I do it. I have had to replace a few older motherboards in the past as you said they will fail and x58 is getting to that point no matter the condition. If this current market comes down then I will switch to newer stuff but for now at least I’m sticking to 2011 and sometimes x58 I have reduced purchasing x58 as the boards are getting expensive. I’d also agree that mixing older motherboards and cpu with current gen nvidea I have had more problems now than ever. But I wouldn’t use them as I doubt x58 could handle them well I’m planning on doing a video on just how much a maxed out x58 can do just waiting on the asus rampage 3 board to come in to start. (It wasn’t cheap for an old board) Have a few gpu to find the best one to use. 980ti/titan X Maxwell/1080ti/titan Xp/5700xt/rtx3090. This is a last hoorah to x58 from me then I’ll be giving the thing away to a local thrift store.
very nice video and explanation. Just managed to get my hands on a brand new x58 rampage 3 extreme motherboard which was not cheap compared to the latest gen boards we have out now.. but excited to build my first xeon system.. loving them 6 dimm slots lol. going with an x5680 processor
I'm buying the same mobo but going with the x5650, what do you think? I've never overclocked but I'm going to do it anyways since I will be need 6 cores for editing and the high clocks for gaming. I mean honestly, for the price? those xeons are lit.
I haven't looked into it. What you're doing is the right thing to do though. Look around and find people talking about whether or not has can be done. Put more stock into the people that say that they have either got it to work or not. For just about anything you'll find a lot of people speculating about whether or not something is possible without having tried it.
sorry late question is that P6T and Xeon X5670 running on Non-ECC RAM? my question I have X5690 and 3x 8GB ECC RAM, will it running on ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard ? Thanks
Hi Michael, I have an Asus P6T SE and I want to upgrade the RAM with 8GB modules. Could you tell me what are the specs of the Kingston HyperX 8GB modules you use?
Hey Michael, I'm really happy as I managed to get a case pretty similar to the one in the video : D Now I just need to understand if this system with a Xeon X5690 would be able to take more than the set 24GB limit, I was told that with the new Xeon Processor it could. Another issue I was facing with the original processor was that the motherboard was really fussy in which ram I put in as it was working fine with 3 different brands for years but when I upgraded to windows 10 and did an update, it would only accept one brand? I have subscribed and have hit the like button and look forward to following more of your tutorials. Thanks Hugh
did you know you could crossflash pretty much any p6t motherboard with another p6t bios? ive easily flashed my p6t deluxe v2 to a p6t pro ws! I overclocked my x5675 from 3.7ghz max at 1.25v, to 4.6ghz 1.32v! (something about the old bios was bottlenecking the overclock!) you should try!
CyborgTechie really? My p6t is on the way, I might have to try that. Is there any special process, or do I just download the bios for the best of the p6t boards and install it like normal?
if you follow this guide ( www.overclock.net/forum/6-intel-motherboards/586111-p6t-se-deal-thread-turned-discussion-cross-flash-p6t.html ) properly for the Asus P6T line of X58 motherboards it works. i flashed my P6T to a P6T Delue V2, and then to a P6T WS PRO a bit later

@@asustablet7115 Windows 10 should pick up the majority of the drivers. Any that it doesn't that are on the motherboard just go to the Asus website to the driver section and get the Windows 7 64-bit drivers and they should work.
@@asustablet7115 To install Windows 10 you'll need to get the free installer from Microsoft. One of the other videos I have on here has the link for downloading it. Basically you use the tool on that page to create a USB flash drive installer for Windows 10 and then boot to it.
It's difficult to know since Asus doesn't list this CPU being a Xeon as being compatible. It doesn't hurt to do a bios upgrade. Failures during files flashes are extremely rare.
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy but it is nedeed a bios update? Because i just bougth one on ebay and a xeon x5675 but it does not post. It start but no image on screen also no beep from speaker.
@@z21ify If you just bought it off eBay there's a possibility the motherboard is just broken. It could just need a bios upgrade but unless you have a CPU that it currently supports with its present bios revision there's no way to flash the BIOS. What you could do is buy a very low and CPU that the motherboard supported with c first version of the bios. Check the support section on the motherboards product page for a list of CPUs that it supported with the first version of the bios.
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy hi, thank you. Yes already bougth an i7 920 it is an asus p6t normal i see other guys using it with xeons also ask to one guy and he told me to update bios if it not post with xeon. It starts all fans and also graphics cars fan and a it slow down speed but it does not give video. So maybe it is in an old bios. The guy told me he doesnt remember if he have updated it so maybe it is the first version. He say was working but u know it is ebay. Will wait for the i7 to arrive and check it. Hope all work good. Thank you.
It depends what you're using you computer for. The extra 2 cores a x5650 would give you is great for encoding media, rendering graphics, etc. If you are just doing gaming and web type things you probably wouldn't notice. Check out the overclock video I did on my x5670 or the overclock guide I made for the original Core i7. Both are available on my channel. Overclocking your 950 or if you get it the x5650 would make a big difference in overall speed.
So as of now, I got an older motherboard and cpu. I wanna switch it out and get a P6T with a Xeon X5670 just like your setup. Can I just switch the parts out and put the driver CD in the pc and it will work? Or would something happen to my Hard Drive? This is my first time fully upgrading my rig. (I got Windows 8.1 pro 64 bit By the way).
When you switch out the motherboard windows will see it as a new computer and will redetect the hardware. It probably won't be able to read the text all of the hardware and find drivers for it. What do you have to do then is go to Z motherboard manufacturers website to download the dryer. They won't have any for Windows 10 for a motherboard that old so you'll need to get drivers most likely for Windows 7 64 bit. Anything that will happen is Microsoft will save it your copy of Windows can't be activated because it's did detect a motherboard change. Before you do any of this upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 10. After the motherboard change you'll need to buy a new license. You can get one for about $16 if you know where to look. To ypgrade Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 check out the recent Windows 7 to Windows 10 upgrade video I put up. The process is the same for Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy so i got everything, and i put the xeon in the p6t, and my motherboard fails to post, not even a beep. Everything powers on, but does not post. What bios did you use?
Can i ask u a question? Im planing to have X58 rig. The mobo is EVGA X58 Classified3. I downloaded the specs PDF file. And it said DD3 800/1066/1333/1600+. Is 1600+ mean i can use DDR3 2400MHz ram or i just stay with 1600MHz? Im planing X58 + X5675 with AIO 240 OC to 4.5GHz, 5.0 GHz maybe in the future Please help me
Trần Lường you can use faster Ram. Or they're not you can get it to 2400 megahertz depends on the multiplier available for the ram in the Bios. You're not likely to get that CPU to 5 gigahertz. 4.5 gigahertz would be really fast for that CPU.
Trần Lường If your RAM is rated at 2400 megahertz it would not be overclocked to make it run that fast. Overclocking means making a component run faster than it's supposed to. It's difficult to get modern processors to run at 5 gigahertz. That processor is about 7 years old.
Trần Lường you have to go into the Motherboard BIOS and change the ram multiplier. You might not be able to get it up to 2400 megahertz but probably pretty close.
I have an Asus P6T SE what is the best possible CPU that can fit in the 1366LGA socket? Also What kind of cooler would be good to get for it? Current stock cooler.

THANX FOR RESPONDING@@MichaelTheComputerGuy yes I know I need a good x58 motherboard and some good triple channel memory to extract the best if it yes newer cpu or more efficient even if we compared 1st vs 2nd gen Intel CPUs there's some improvement but I'm just trying to build budget friendly WS
i would like to upgrade my 920 to xeon, but i'm undecided between x5670 and x5680. x5670 is much cheaper than x5680, is there that much difference? my 920 is overclocked to 3.8GHz, and I would like to overclock the xeon too: is there so much difference here too? I also read that all the ram is not recognized on asus P6T SE with xeon processor, is it true? I have 6 banks of 2GB 1333MHZ ram
The overclock ability comes down to what an individual chip can do not so much the model number. I don't know about the compatibility with a particular motherboard. What you find online people talking about and their experiences is usually correct though. Keep in mind that you should not be trying to buy an older motherboard like that only to put an old CPU in it. Doing this kind of upgrade only makes sense if you already have the motherboard and RAM and then you're just purchasing the cheap Xeon CPU.
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy Yes I have an asus P6T SE with i7-920, and i would only to upgrade the processor. X5670 or x5680 are the same (number of transistors ecc)? accepted that the OC depends on the single processor, is choosing the x5670 a good choice or a minimal improvement can be had with x5680? they are both cheap, I try for the ram issue.
If the price difference isn't much get the higher model number. It may overclock slightly better. But again it really comes down to individual chips rather than model number.
I'm looking to upgrade my 2008 Mac Pro to a 2010 MacPro because to my shock, the 2010 MacPro runs much faster than any current iMac (with their i5 and i7 chips). Of course, the 2012 and 2013 MacPro's run even faster, but the 2010 is in my budget, and again... the 2010 is STILL faster than all of today's iMacs. I'm editing in Final Cut doing a lot of processing with LUT's, color correction and most importantly (it slows my machine down the most) noise reduction. I know this is a PC video but does anyone think I'll see a significant speed increase? The GeekBench scores seem to suggest I will, but I don't know how it'll be in real life FCPX editing tests. Thanks!
Make sure you have the latest version of the BIOS installed on the motherboard. You say you don't have and I 7 to test it. Is this a motherboard that you have seen work with another CPU?

Pinkynuggah I suppose I could. Really just getting yourself a datavac electric blower and following the steps in the existing video is the way to go. I'll think about it.
Great vid man! I'm running a 920 with the same board and was looking at upgrading to the X5670 as well. I can't get much of a oc on the 920 anymore, since the temps shoot up way too high for my liking on stock settings. I mainly use the pc for work but also game on it, so I was thinking the X5670 would be a great choice, especially when they go for around $60 on eBay. Want my GTX1070 to be more satisfied, since 2.66ghz doesn't really cut it with that card.
Damian C did the same thing myself almost a year ago, been one hell of an upgrade. Where the 920 didn't ever really like sitting above 3.2, the 5670 is perfectly comfortable at 4.0. Who needs a new computer when a seven year old rig can run 6 cores at these speeds?

@@kevinnorman2588 That sounds more like something is shorted. Thing to do now is take off anything that's not required for the computer to turn on. Strip it down to power supply motherboard CPU. Even take the ram out. That means disconnect all other cables and take the graphics card or any other expansion cards out. Also disconnect everything from the USB ports and sound. Once the computer turns on you can add them back one at a time. When it stopped turning on the last thing you added is the problem.
I think im gonna get another mother board & maybe psu? I'm building it for adobe and that processor would be boss its been glitchy since the start cause it's my first time building a computer I think my starting parts were pretty beat up( mo bo, psu, graphics card and some fans, I7 940, and cpu cooler )
Look up the motherboard model on Google and go to the manufacturer's website. There should be a support section where you can download drivers. You're most likely looking for either USB or chipset drivers to get those red USB ports working.
After watching some x58 vids and yours man and I sold my i5 9600k set 270e to build x58 with same cpu x5670 gigabyte ud3r motherboard and overclocked it to 4.4. It can go 4.6 but my cooler cant cool it enough when stressed but when gaming only 65deg max. XD Cb score 1005 with 4.4 :P And by the way it cost me only 130e with 12g ddr3+mb+x5670. And I have the original cpu i7 960 which I am trying to sell right now :)
IMNOTA eh 1.39 isn't that much. It's a server cpu, they are meant to take the extra heat and stuff. My 2500k almost lasted a year at 1.5v 5ghz. Albeit it never exceeded 75c, but I'm pretty fucking sure the voltage is what killed it lol. But as long as you aren't super reckless like me and don't exceed 1.4 you should be fine with a xeon.
i mean technically any voltage above zero is killing them slowly. that is why ALL cpus will die if used long enough. now if he isn't at least running an AIO, and his temps are exceeding around 75c, i would personally dial back the voltage, but if his temps are under control, and he is running an AIO or a really beefy air cooler, i don't think he will have any problems. the only reason i let my 2500k run like that is because i didn't plan on it lasting much longer than a year, so i figured i would have my only criteria be getting to 5ghz with decent temps. i would have run 5.3, but i needed like 1.58-1.6v and the temps were too high for my 240mm AIO. i wanted it to last a year, not 3 months, so i decided not to run it like that lol
I really meant you to do update video till all this video that you just made and I would really like you to do overclock video man you got a lot of use for the video I just bought one I would appreciate it if you would do a one video of how to just over check for all the new B's on how you over o'clock and how you make sure that you got your buyers set an everything set right you don't have to do in debt but just run a quick tutorial on what you need to know I'm what you need to watch out for when you're upgrading the processor and when you're over clocking
jonny c 2.0 If you're looking for instructions on how to overclock the processor I made a video not long after this where I actually show the process of overclocking this Xeon processor.
that's one of the things I've been trying to find out, i feel like all i've been doing is trying to find benchmarks and compare prices like is the x5690 better then a x5675 and are they better then a cpu like a i7 6700k and then if i went xeon i would have to find a MB and transfer windows and make sure my ram is compatible and blah blah blah my head hurts.
These older CPUs are not better than a modern CPU. On the newer CPUs you can run them at a faster gigahertz and just beyond that they're more efficient per clock cycle. If you have an older computer that can take one of these 6-core Xeon processors they are a great way to boost the speed of your current computer.

Your old processor was OC'ed to 3.5ghz.The stock speed of a 920 is 2.66ghz. Its an unfair comparison running the new one at its stock speed 2.93ghz. Should have OC'ed it to at least 3.5ghz.
3fast5u WooowSoFast The risk of a bios update going wrong is very low. Even if there's a problem there's almost always a way to recover a wrongly flashed bios.
Michael Cooper You made me decide to do it. I'll do It soon on my MSI x58 pro so I can enjoy Xeon power on it. Thanks for your your answer and sorry if I wrote some letters wrong, smartphone keyboard sux.
i7 970 is not good for overclocking... trust me, I have one with a sabertooth x58 motherboard and I'm using stock speed because was never stable...I'm going also for a xeon...
well... I really don't know but it's too lagy... so it has better performance on the stock settings... But yeah I'm still happy with the performance :)
Is that what's shown in the bios or in the OS? If the bios shows 12 gig but the OS doesn't... you using a 32bit OS? 32bit OS will not recognize any more than 4 gigs of ram, 64bit is unlimited, otherwise, that issue needs more trouble shooting with several different possible solutions and causes.
MohiXYZ When I made this video that processor was well over $100. It has come down considerably in price. The more cost-effective option right now is the x5650 which you can pick up for $35 and can be overclocked to at least 4Ghz, possibly faster.
Love watching these old X58 videos, just upgraded my system from an old i7 920 on a Gigabyte UD5 with 24gb triple channel memory and a really old ASUS GTX 460 to a Xeon 5680 with a Gigabyte 1050ti 4gb WF OC edition, getting 80-100FPS in nearly all current AAA titles, apart from Minecraft, that still plays at 5FPS :-)... you can stick your RayTracing where the sun don't shine RTX, as I often think "wow I look great in this mirror" just before I waste someone lol....
are you kidding with minecraft? : )
Did you do anything on your UD5 to make the x5680 run? I have the gigabyte x58a-ud5 on i7 920 and i tried the x5675, it turns on but gets stucked at 89 or 68 message on my mobo LED. You have any tips?
@@daddybotz Flash the BIOS to F13 and retry.
My ud5 died before 4-5 years. I bought it for 270€ in 2010. Very sad, I have all the parts, I was thinking giving a trye with a Chinese motherboard.
Does this motherboard supports nvidia 1060ti graphics card ?
Thanks for going into details bro. I'll go with X5680. I like your ATX case.
Hey man, same mobo here, but i wont that juice ssd boot, pls?:)
What are you voltage settings to get 4.3Ghz?
Again, great vid.
i like your easy way not pushing ,just doing what you got to do :)

I mean honestly, for the price? those xeons are lit.
I have skimmed forum posts that you run into alot of trouble putting xeon cpus in SE version of the P6T motherboard. Any comment?
I haven't looked into it. What you're doing is the right thing to do though. Look around and find people talking about whether or not has can be done. Yes. ua-cam.com/video/79R8dLzsSfs/v-deo.html
1:12 what voltage were you running the highest overlock at?
ekdromoi A few videos after this I go over overclocking the Xeon processor. Check that one out.
I got an I7 950. is it worth it to get the xeon x5650? for $60.

Im planing to have X58 rig. The mobo is EVGA X58 Classified3. I downloaded the specs PDF file. And it said DD3 800/1066/1333/1600+. Is 1600+ mean i can use DDR3 2400MHz ram or i just stay with 1600MHz?
Im planing X58 + X5675 with AIO 240 OC to 4.5GHz, 5.0 GHz maybe in the future
Please help me
Trần Lường you can use faster Ram. Or they're not you can get it to 2400 megahertz depends on the multiplier available for the ram in the Bios. You're not likely to get that CPU to 5 gigahertz. 4.5 gigahertz would be really fast for that CPU.
Michael Cooper if it run at 2400MHz that mean i OC-ed my ram ?
Hmmm. Why u said that X5675 cant go to 5.0Ghz???
Trần Lường If your RAM is rated at 2400 megahertz it would not be overclocked to make it run that fast. Overclocking means making a component run faster than it's supposed to. It's difficult to get modern processors to run at 5 gigahertz. That processor is about 7 years old.
Michael Cooper so how do i turn my ram to get it to 2400MHz? EVGA X58 mobo said 1600+. I dont understand that "+" mean :(
Trần Lường you have to go into the Motherboard BIOS and change the ram multiplier. You might not be able to get it up to 2400 megahertz but probably pretty close.

i would like to upgrade my 920 to xeon, but i'm undecided between x5670 and x5680. x5670 is much cheaper than x5680, is there that much difference? my 920 is overclocked to 3.8GHz, and I would like to overclock the xeon too: is there so much difference here too?

Great video ! The XEON does not have a GPU so may run cooler ! Think my LGA 1155 only runs Four (4) Cores and have not seen any six-core XEON CPUs for this socket... tjl
on intels web page u can see how this processor cant work on p6t Deluxe. how can u do it? answer me pls
I showed how I figured out the Xeon Processor would work in this motherboard 4 minutes into the video. Please watch it.
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy so much thank u men.
Megahert is not the singular of Megahertz or whatever it is you mean.
BTW, you can find the x5650 at Amazon for less than $20
This was 2 years ago
If you set the multiplier to 22 you lose turbo must be auto or above the turbo speed witch is 25×133
zorry to botheryou but i am tring to overclock a xeon 5690 on the motherboard p6x58d-e premium i wanted to know if i can a applied this settings you use
It might work but also look at the Intel overclocking videos on the channel. They talk about the reasons for the settings bring set where they are and how to overclock.
can you do another dust cleaning video??
Pinkynuggah I suppose I could. Really just getting yourself a datavac electric blower and following the steps in the existing video is the way to go. I'll think about it.
This board can support even 48GB of ram, instead of the official 24GB of ram.
Thanks for that information
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy Your welcome.👍🏻
The Multi is 22 for x5670...
im using P6x58d-e...x5675.6c/12t...x5667 4c/8t.. 23 Multi..182 Bclk i think...i dont go over 95w Tdp..the rest are 120w..
For me I got a W3680 it has a unlocked multiplier and they cab go to 4.7ghz. But my mobo is limiting me so I can only do 4.2ghz.
asus p6t deluxe Intel Xeon E5645 (6x2,40/12M/5.86) s1366 working?
My system is still working if that is what you are asking. I'm editing a new video for the channel on it right now.
Do i need to change the fan because i have i7 950 fan
Not just because of the model. Is the cpu overheating or the cooling fan making noise?
Heating is same as before
I already upgrade to a xeon 5670
When i go to pc properties somtimes it shows 8gb 10gb or 4gb installed ram but i have 12gb. Is it normal?
Thanks for this video :)
XD my X5650 gets 632points in cinebench at stock speeds. I am looking for a good deal on a new OCable 1366 board cuz i used a Z400 board, so i hope with the good Mobo i can get up to 4,3Ghz-4,5Ghz
I know its late, but does it also work with an xeon x5690??
Ht99pro If you do a Google search for x5690 p6t deluxe you'll find several people talking about having made at work so it looks like it does.
When I put the xion CPU in my computer it turns on but does not boot. I put the old processer in rebooted windows 10 now PC won't turn on 🧐 help I have the same Asus p6t deluxe v2
You may have bumped one of the RAM sticks or graphics card. Try resetting those. That means take them out put them back in.
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy thank you but I tried that I'm leaning towards it being the motherboard, but I'm not sure what to troubleshoot.. it is now only able to display the power and reset buttons, and when pressed I get a little twitch from all the fans, then nothing just power and reset buttons stay lit up?
@@kevinnorman2588 That sounds more like something is shorted. Thing to do now is take off anything that's not required for the computer to turn on. Strip it down to power supply motherboard CPU. Even take the ram out. That means disconnect all other cables and take the graphics card or any other expansion cards out. Also disconnect everything from the USB ports and sound. Once the computer turns on you can add them back one at a time. When it stopped turning on the last thing you added is the problem.
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy alright tried that and same problem..
Anyone know how to get the red USB slots in the back to start working? Running windows 7 x64 and i7 960 at 3.8ghz
Look up the motherboard model on Google and go to the manufacturer's website. There should be a support section where you can download drivers. You're most likely looking for either USB or chipset drivers to get those red USB ports working.
Michael Cooper hey Michael, the motherboard is a p6t deluxe v2. I’ll do that as soon as I get home
Very good video, thank you
After watching some x58 vids and yours man and I sold my i5 9600k set 270e to build x58 with same cpu x5670 gigabyte ud3r motherboard and overclocked it to 4.4. It can go 4.6 but my cooler cant cool it enough when stressed but when gaming only 65deg max. XD
Cb score 1005 with 4.4 :P
And by the way it cost me only 130e with 12g ddr3+mb+x5670. And I have the original cpu i7 960 which I am trying to sell right now :)
i am running x5650 a4.43ghz @1.39ghz .. is that safe ??
X AK i guess you meant 1.39v if so it's okay, but you're not supposed to use that much.
BigMan7o0 Just do some research and see that around 1.4 is killing them slowly.
It's definitely usable, but not "safe".
i mean technically any voltage above zero is killing them slowly. that is why ALL cpus will die if used long enough.
now if he isn't at least running an AIO, and his temps are exceeding around 75c, i would personally dial back the voltage, but if his temps are under control, and he is running an AIO or a really beefy air cooler, i don't think he will have any problems.
the only reason i let my 2500k run like that is because i didn't plan on it lasting much longer than a year, so i figured i would have my only criteria be getting to 5ghz with decent temps.
i would have run 5.3, but i needed like 1.58-1.6v and the temps were too high for my 240mm AIO. i wanted it to last a year, not 3 months, so i decided not to run it like that lol
Michael Cooper i got a w3550 what u thinkong to blow this out water and be cheep to lmk what u think me i think x5670 or w5670 i think that is right
Go for the W3690 if you have a socket 1366. 3.5GHz 6-core for ~$80. It's faster than the X5690
that's one of the things I've been trying to find out, i feel like all i've been doing is trying to find benchmarks and compare prices like is the x5690 better then a x5675 and are they better then a cpu like a i7 6700k and then if i went xeon i would have to find a MB and transfer windows and make sure my ram is compatible and blah blah blah my head hurts.
These older CPUs are not better than a modern CPU. On the newer CPUs you can run them at a faster gigahertz and just beyond that they're more efficient per clock cycle. If you have an older computer that can take one of these 6-core Xeon processors they are a great way to boost the speed of your current computer.
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy i got a question if you had a choice between a x5690 w3690 i7 6700k which one would you pick?
im really on the fence on which one to get
The i7 is faster. The question is what is the total cost of the system?
@@MichaelTheComputerGuy my current pc has a evga 600w 80plus fx8350 and gtx 1060 GB 16gbram and i paid $550 for it 2yrs ago and i found a pc with a gtx 1070 founders and a i7 6700k 16gb ram for $650 i would sell my old pc for around 500 so the new system would cost $150 or I could upgrade my cpu to a w3690 with a x58 for around $175 sell my current MB cpu for $100 boom $50 buck upgrade of course i don't know if my ram will work with a x58 or the rest of my pc for that matter.
Your old processor was OC'ed to 3.5ghz.The stock speed of a 920 is 2.66ghz. Its an unfair comparison running the new one at its stock speed 2.93ghz. Should have OC'ed it to at least 3.5ghz.
i got a s20 mother bors and i need somthing batter xeon 4core 3.2
motherboard link?
It's a Asus P6T Deluxe v1.
I have a xeon x5650 on a dell t3500.
I've got 656 points with my i7 950 (OC to 4.2Ghz and stable)
618@4.0 on mine, been running this one for 9 years now so just ordered a 5675 to oc a bit over the same to not bottleneck my 980ti
i can get a 6 core 2.9 ghz or 3.2 for 49cash
cuz say i pay hard gpu game i did not over clock and its like a i5 chip so i like to beet it
I got MSI and I'm scared of BIOS update.
Ylber Lujkaj My 970 runs at 4.2GHz at 1.33v on P6X58D-E board. Either your settings are off or your specific cpu is just a bad one
well... I really don't know but it's too lagy... so it has better performance on the stock settings...
But yeah I'm still happy with the performance :)
Ylber Lujkaj if it's laggy, it's probably just overheating.
My ram always shows as 4gb even though i use 12gb..
Try moving the sticks of ram to different slots.
32nm cpu not 37nm
U think u emal ebay seller see if hill sell one for 40
my x5650 gets to 4.4 ghz stable so coulda saved 20 bucks
x5670 is like i7 980
just buy the Xeon x5687 3.6 ghz base frequency for 40 dollar on Amazon 0.o
MohiXYZ When I made this video that processor was well over $100. It has come down considerably in price. The more cost-effective option right now is the x5650 which you can pick up for $35 and can be overclocked to at least 4Ghz, possibly faster.
Nah, x5650 trashes it.
That's a quad Core with 8 threads.
