To understand the monsters in this and the logic behind what they do and how they act, you need to have read some of Lovecraft"s works. Alone in the Dark is a lovecraftian story about Nyarlathotep (the dark man/the black pharaoh) and Shub-Niggurath (the black goat of the woods). Both of these entitites are also mentioned by their proper names within the game, only once or twice though. The lovecraftian theme also explains the setting, like the 1920s rural south, the cult, the ritual at the end, and a bunch of stuff Jeremy says.
My understanding of the bridge and car scene is that Grace was the kidnapped daughter in that case and is his personal connection to Decerto. After catching up to the father and daughter, their car ended up running off the bridge and into the river. Edward managed to rescue Grace from the car but the father drowned. However, as it turns out Grace didn't actually need to be rescued from her father. By reading Grace's patient file, her reason of admission is that her mother sent her there to avoid 'corrupting influences'. I've taken it to suggesting a neglectful and/or controlling mother and that the father may have had good reason to run away with Grace and away from the mother. I also think it's telling that the mother chose to send Grace to Decerto as opposed to anywhere else, Decerto which is a 'home for the mentally fatigued' isolated from everything and everyone amongst other things.
Edward's sense of guilt here lies in his rescue of Grace who didn't need to be rescued in the first place and indirectly killing her father. When grace said the she and her father are still in the car, she only meant it in the context of the memory she and Edward are currently in. Edward's guilt compelled him to try and save both from drowning even though this is a memory and Edward can't actually change the past. In the process, he was nearly drowned by his guilt. Literally and figuratively. I chalked that up to the Dark Man's influence, who's presence alone has already nearly had Edward shoot himself.
Yeah in that scene Edward literally says something along the lines of, “I’m sorry I thought I was doing the right thing. I didn’t know your mother didn’t care about you” (paraphrasing)
But my question tho.. is grace just a figment of Edward’s imagination then? I thought that but Emily can also see grace and she interacts with the other patients and she lives at the end of the game as well and is just kinda chilling with Edward and Emily. And on that note why the fuck are they so chill about her? She has some of the creepiest and straight up threatening lines in the game and they’re just like “we need to protect this little girl” like what??? She literally wanted nothing but murder and chaos she’s basically the spawn of satan
my biggest gripe with the game is the two sides you can play. i don’t like the fact that they’re essentially separate universes. i wish they had been the same story but just seeing both perspectives. Edward and Emily both experiencing different (but connected) things, and coming together at the end to have the whole story.

So you're playing the new 'almost not-quite remake' game: that'll be enough to explain why you get a bit lost. It's a late game, and a retelling of parts of an earlier game, kinda like Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. You're straight up not gonna understand some bits without earlier context from the zeitgeist or personal experience, never mind that it's a detective game: you probably should read everything if you want all the clues.
There's someone else in the comments referencing Lovecraft, and they're right. There's some small stuff, like the 'scarab bats' being a not uncommon interpretation of Mi-Go, or bigger stuff like the Dark Man being Nyarlathotep or the Dark Young (not itself the Black Goat) at the feast, but there's even larger narrative cues from some of his writings just in terms of story structure.
The beast in the woods, by the way, is likely another manifestation/aspect of Nyarlathotep, or a servitor.

I’m not gonna lie to you, being upset about having to untwine the story of a detective game by reading clues is so counter intuitive, it’s literally the whole shtick of any game you play as a detective… even the Batman games to an extent.
I feel like it should be clear regardless though. Not everyone wants to go that deep into it, it's good to have the extra there for the people that do, but IMO it shouldn't be a requirement

I think you would enjoy the game "In Sound Mind" it can be done in 1 playthrough but lots of the achievements can be hidden pretty well. Might be cool to see on the channel and I'd love to see you play through it.
Great video as usual Jazzy! A good game suggestion for the achievement grind would be: Control (preferably the ultimate edition for extra Alan Wake lore) . Lots of lore, collectibles and a good story. Keep up the good work regardless!

Exactly what i was thinking. He feels a moral weight dragging him down for not saving the father but also the way it is implied by the trophy name the father could have been abusive and thus Edward willingly left him to drown amd and may even be haunted by said abusive acts...
@@REAPERGAMINGGRthe father was actually the good guy. In that scene when Edward is talking to grace he says something like “I’m sorry I thought I was doing the right thing. I didn’t know your mother didn’t care”.
So basically the dad kidnapped the daughter and was trying to take her away and Edward thought the dad was abusive but it was actually the mother who was abusive bc the mom was extremely controlling (based on notes and comments made by grace) the mom wanted to send grace to the institute to keep her away from “bad influences” or something to that effect and the mother overall didn’t seem to care much for grace’s actual safety and comfort. Edward’s guilt comes from the fact that he thought he was rescuing grace when in fact grace was already being rescued by her dad and that got them killed.

A great video... I didn't even know a new Alone in the Dark was in the works. Feels weird to not be recommending my usual game. Still, if you want something a bit fun for an day of downtime from the grind, (or perhaps a lot longer if you decide to collect every artifact of the prestige mode) take a look at Universal Paperclip.

My guess on the confusing drowning part
During the old case he tracks down the dad and Emily they are in a car drowning
Given the case leading up to that our detective knows the dad is abusive so he rescues the kid and lets the dad drown
The reason it’s a zombified version of himself is that it’s his own guilt at leaving someone to die and taking justice into his own hands

I completely understand the bugged trophies. In Shadow of Mordor I completed the Flames Make it Go Faster! achievement over a dozen times and I never got the trophy, some games just like to bug I guess.
I wont lie, i came here to see if you found a way to get throse trophies that are bugged, and sad to know theres nothing i didnt know about it or the issues. Great videos Jazzy regardless.

I would totally buy this, but everyone says the trophy system is bugged.
I'm stuck on the chatterbox trophy I've done four playthoughs two as Emily and two as edward and i spoke" to everyone fully like and still don't have it and received the Plat too. 😔 i Absolutely, Love Alone In The Dark Remake and I'm frustrated i can't plat it like. Same with Alan Wake 2 I'm 89% on Trophys and there was glitches / bugs at the time an i was pissed i couldn't Platinum Alan Wake 2 either like. I think Alone in the Dark 2024 game laid a solid enough foundation in reviving and bringing the series forward. It plays very much like a game from the early to late 2000s with modern graphics and 3rd person OTS. It's far from a masterpiece, but has reasonable cult status material for the coming years after. Unlike the 2001 reboot, this 2024 game is very faithful to the 1992 original (plus trilogy) in spirit, essence and flavor. There aren't many adventure horror games out there with an early 1900s setting, and that will be Alone in the Dark 2024's biggest strength and attraction. Also helps it's in 3rd person OTS, something most Call of Cthulhu themed games are NOT. So far, only The Sinking City (which is getting an unexpected sequel) is the only other Lovecraftian themed game I can recall that is in 3rd person OTS.
If The Sinking City is getting a sequel, despite getting review scores in 2019 so similar to that of Alone in the Dark 2024, then I don't see why the latter can't get a follow up game itself. It all depends on sales performance and a sales tally of 1-2 million could guarantee a sequel in a few years. Since the game is also AA, and didn't cost much to make unlike a certain The Callisto Protocol ($162 million budget cost).

I've heard tales of the original _Alone in the Dark_ was a PlayStation boi so unfortunately missed out. Never knew there was a _remake/remaster?_ so might have to pick this up if it's quite faithful.

Glitchy trophies or really finicky bug me. There are some trophies out there that just bug me because of how finicky they are like apocalypse burn out trophy in days gone, or the trophy in assasins creed mirage when u gotta be in a constant fight for like 10 minutes or when u gotta be blended in a crowd and stealth kill people etc. Trophies that are straight up bugged shouldn't even be a thing anymore in today's world. Majority get patched but there are still some that aren't fixed yet after years of being out already
I couldnt get the submit ending on xbox no matter what its bugged as fuck I couldnt lower the gun and raise her hand even though I used the paint thinner.

Thats still bugged for me, technically i havent popped the trophy yet, hopefully it will be fixed in a future update!

Just seems like a THQNordic game through and through, a really cool concept but always just seem a bit lacking in the execution. Please dont get me wrong, i do enjoy these games but there just seems to be something missing from them for me

When it comes to games like this Im always very disappointed when it wastes your time. I thought the other character would let you see things play out from their perspective with more lore being revealed, not that they would just have the same story excluding their background.
And a personal pet peeve is that you dont get a "save everyone" option or ending, I know it wouldnt make much sense for something Lovecraftian but its just something my sappy side enjoys.

@@steelbear2063 In my country that game costs almost a week of work. I did bought Baldurs Gate 3 at launch, but i currently have 300 hours on it.
The only scary thing on whole game is the amount of text (even tough narrated).
Otherwise it´s pretty boring and has nothing to do with Alone in the Dark series.
