My guess about the button is that they made a larger button smaller to fit a smaller button hole, and it was easier to do that by making it square rather than trying to keep it round.
Agree with this theory rather than needing a square button.
That's what I was going to use as a comment on the modified button.👍
I vote for cufflink
What about a gaming piece?
Maybe trousers or a heavy jacket? Gaming piece theory is pretty good too.
By far my favorite metal detecting channel
I used to watch every metal detecting video on UA-cam. Now, though, you are the only one I watch. Your genuineness and historical commentary along with your excitement and improvements you've made keep me coming back. I do envy your location and its history. I live in a location in SoCal whose history only dates back primarily to the depression era. I'm too poor and too old to travel to locations like yours so I live vicariously through your videos. Thank you for that and please keep doing what you do. You are the best!
Sitting enjoying fresh ground and brewed coffee, homemade sourdough toast and my favorite Friday morning UA-cam show. What a fun hunt!
This is the kind of outing I started watching Gmmd for long ago. Fine job Brad.
Let’s gooooo. Been sitting here holding my phone waiting for this to drop!
Jefferson would have been quite intrigued!
Awesome opportunity to hit untouched land like that! So excited for you that you now know there are other sites you have permission to hit! Thank you for taking us along!..
All metal detecting videos are not equal! Thank you for sharing your great content!
Hi Brad! This treasure hunt was so much fun! But wait… there’s more??? I can’t wait! Thanks for taking us along with you. These adventures give so much pleasure to us all! Hugs from KY💞TK
An amazing place. If we had a time machine, can you imagine sitting with Washington and explaining what a metal detector is in our time?
What an Epic day detecting untouched ground! From the British copper, to the State copper, Knee buckle and shoe buckle pieces. Piles of buttons too. Those are the best days digging history!
Great finds today Brad !!
Love you're videos !!
Nice hunt!! I love untouched home sites.
Great finds Brad. I LOVE your show. It was one of the reasons I bought myself a metal detector. Then I got Covid and haven't been able to get out there yet. Stamina seems to be keeping me down now. I usually watch on the TV but today I get to watch on my laptop so I Can send you a post and thank you for your show. Some day it would be awesome to see ALL your finds/Collection or displays. Have a GREAT DAY and stay healthy.🤩
He has a couple of videos showing his displays. Just type in Green Mountain Metal Detecting displays in UA-cam search. Several should come up.
A good Day For You Brad….
Great video, again.. Thanks…
Good morning Brad, thank you 😊
I always look forward to Friday’s knowing your out hunting for history and treasure. Thanks again for another great escape to the mountains of Vermont.

I love your videos Brad! I love your music too!
Definitely a great day in the woods Brad!!!
Brad. What a awesome day of metal detecting for you especially the buttons and the British copper and the very cool knee buckle under a rock. The suspender clip, etc. this video really rocked like all your videos do.
I was just starting to comment I hope you keep these up, love the OG colonial woods metal detecting you do! Thanks so much awesome finds.. wish I could find cellar holes this old in pa!
Just another awesome adventure back in time- you can almost picture the people living there. Amazing history from an incredible site. Well done!

Thanks for including us, Brad! I'm glad that the Great green greedy bird hasn't gotten to you! You always seem to be happy with whatever you find, even if it's not worth lots of money.
I could watch you find buttons and buckles all day. Nice spot!!
28th like, happy friday, i always watch your videos.
Awesome video Brad! Can’t wait to see what else you come across on a return trip. All the best!
So, along with your finds you now have more historic places to detect. That's what I call a real bonus. Thanks for taking us along with you!
Loved that cuff link with the fox on it. My favorite
Great day! Enjoyed as always!
Hello, this is my great friend 👍
Wonderful haul of relics Brad.
The mountains on Vermont are breathtaking this time of year, and your camera skills are exceptional. Always brings me back to Wheelock decades back. I bought land on the western slope of Stannard Mountain. The winter scared me away, though. My SoCal blood could not cope.
It is so fun to walk with you. Thank you. Would love to go in real time but 2000 miles prevent that. Blessings
Brad thank you for all you do and love the mountains of Vermont . Hope to someday to get back
Fantastic finds! Live that square button!
Thanks again for an amazing episode.
Always great to see what you're up to.😁
Congrats on an awesome hunt and some great old colonial-era finds. Kudos for braving the woods in warm weather - I avoid detecting the woods in summer months due to ticks and poison ivy, but I am looking forward to returning when cooler weather comes back. HH!
Brad, you are the penultimate treasure hunter and You Tuber. From the beginning of your productions: 'I do this every Friday ...' . I feel that too many You Tuber's want to almost demand us viewers to 'like and subscribe'. You do not, and I appreciate that. BTW I am subscribed. Hopefully, you know how awesome your productions are, and "begging for clicks" is obviously below you. I totally appreciate that. When you added your shoulder cam it added more proof (as if we needed it) of the find and was as real as you can make it and you have mastered it - well done.
BTW - thanks for your music that often rings in my heart and soul, and to be selfish, would also write more of that.
Awesome finds Brad!!!! Thanks for taking us along!!!! ❤️
Brad, noticed your shovel was having a problem with roots. I purchased a shovel for my detecting that will cut through roots...its called 'The Root Assasin', I bought it at Home Depot.
Awesome finds. Square button was interesting. I have found two repurposed square head stamps. Both from the same site although made slightly different. Thanks for sharing!!!
It doesn’t matter what comes out, you’re enjoyment is infectious
What an amazing site! Why were these people trying to homestead in such an out-of-the-way place? Their courage never fails to amaze me. Thanks, Brad!
I love the quivering excitement in your 'Oooooohhhh", You found some great items! Thank you for sharing such a great hobby. So Fun!
Awesome colonial day! Good hunt!

That "square" button is super neat!!! Love it!
i been watching you a long time and enjoy your videos
Good seeing you again. The cuff link was a new one for me. Thank you much for taking the time to share these trips and fines. God bless be safe stay well until next time.
Awesome video! I’m up in the NEK and a few years ago I found a lib cap large cent and a very thin and worn out silver spoon just under some moss on top of a stone wall that borders my property. They were right next to each other…I was blown away and they’re still one of my favorite finds
Great finds!!!
Awesome!!
I always enjoy your videos, Brad. When I saw the title of this one, I was intrigued as once I was hunting an early colonial site here in Canada. Well, under a large flat rock(over two feet at least), I found a pair of silver rings wedding bands, I assume. There are no hallmarks on them, unfortunately which makes me feel like they were made local. Along with those were rev war buttons and early french colonial tokens. You just never know when or where. They continue to be one of my favorite recoveries. A fantastic site for my area. I hope that you ome across one yourself soon. Keep up the great work.
the square.. a cuff link perhaps?
Another cool video
Beautiful video.
Brad,
I think you most valuable find in an old dirt road
has to be that big gold nugget!
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Hope your family and home are safe from all the flooding. Can't wait to see what you find at the new places!
Great finds Brad! I do enjoy watching you find the 1700's items! So interesting in history!!
Beautiful knee buckle piece.
Sweet finds this week. Congrats. Best of Luck on your bucket lister of the silver thimble. It was when I did a door knock at a mid 1800's house that I dug mine. Took me 6 years to find it back in 2022. The CONNEC : coppers where made in Vermont I think. Enjoy your weekend.
Tallio It's a Treasure Hunt 🦊 (New Merch alert ??!!) Cool graphic -- it went into my sketchbook today
Awesome hunt 👍👍❤️
Great video. Thanks
❤😊I really appreciate your posts. I would’ve enjoyed doing what you are doing. I’m enjoying watching what you are doing 😅
Absolutely gorgeous knee buckle!
Nice finds Brad!
Wow, an old Connecticut copper. I'd love to follow along with you in the woods sometime...perhaps get you back down in CT.
Thanks!
Brad - Do you know Tom Wessels? He is a forensic ecologist who is expert at reading the forest woodlands. By looking at the stone walls, trees and terrain, he can tell you the history of the land, and he is a college professor in Keene, NH. He has excellent educational videos on UA-cam.
I always learn something from you. Part of why I enjoy your channel. And I loved your movie ❤❤😂😂
Well done.
Good stuff thanks so much
Nothing beats a virgin hunt! My favorite is the knee buckle, but it was all very good.
Nice Dig Brad!!
Maybe they were considering manufacturing square buttons and this was a prototype? You know, thinking outside the box, ummm, I mean thinking outside the circle and into the "box". LOL Seriously, nice hunt, Gotta Love It!
