- Los Apson? is a record shop in Kōenji, opened in 1994 by Keiji Yamabe after he became independent. The name is derived from a Mexican garage band. Having moved from Shinjuku to Hatagaya before settling in Kōenji, the store has been in operation for over 30 years. Known for its unique sections, such as the "Kōenji Balearic" corner, it features a distinctive selection of music curated with a personal touch. The shop also offers quirky objects hung from the ceiling, which are available for purchase. In addition to selling records, Los Apson? regularly hosts exhibition events, making it a standout in the bustling Kōenji record scene.

I am from the same city as the Los Apson mexican band. I was so pleased to visit Yamabe-san's store and to talk a bit about the band. Hopefuly I can visit Japan once again and bring him Los Apson merch from my hometown.

Immediately have my attention when there's a whole corner for Merzbow.

Sincerely thanks for posting this one… a totally new shop to me… clearly, I didn’t walk far enough from the metro station or was short on local knowledge…
Yamabe-San mentions the 90s record store called Wave Records... I can think of two other record shop owners (one in Tokyo & one in Osaka) who also have talked about Wave… both of which have a very diverse and personnel selection of music for sale much like this store… can anyone provide a back story on Wave Records as the shop seems to have a bit of history in the evolution of the shops we visit today as buyers...?
I hope Ella Records don’t mind, but Los Apson has me thinking of Los Barbados - all this shop-to-shop leg work does work-up an appetite… previously we had a store that did food… how about a place that does great food & great music, but you can’t buy a record ;-)
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! We're glad we could introduce you to a new shop.
Vinyl with Obi Japan will be expensive to resell in my country Indonesia. Also viral city pop vinyl such as Tatsuro, Mariya and Miki. Tatsuro was my fave far before this city pop trend was worldwide viral because I watch j-dorama Good Luck circa 2003. And now I'm very curious with 70s girlband Candies because I watch j-dorama Oshin and the deceased Sue chan became Oshin's foster daughter. I also watch j-dorama doctor and j-movie the boy with letter O where Ran Ito act brilliantly
Thank you for sharing your story! It’s amazing how J-dramas can introduce such great music and artists. Tatsuro, Mariya, and Miki are truly timeless. And Candies are a fantastic discovery - their music still holds so much charm. 'Good Luck!!' and 'Oshin' are classics! It's wonderful to hear how these shows have shaped your love for Japanese music. Hope you enjoy exploring more records!
