Rented one of these in Ireland drawn by a horse. It had a double bed across the back and had 2 beds that folded down from the sides. It was a cool experience, except the horse had a mind of his own!
Thats awesome ! ours is pretty small but were going for a traditional layout like the one you mentioned, except ours will be pulled by a suburban lol ! it too has a mind of its own.
Love your project ! I am currently building a caboose style Tinyhouse ..just getting the trailer ready but want to use the vardo style roof and a cupola. Good craftsmanship as I see it on yours. Details on methods for vardo roofs are scarce. You have utilized the thoughts I had and it was good to see it live. My caboose will be 17 feet long and require a inner wall which will support the longer rafters or about 1/2 way maybe.
I have built many trailers at home in my back yard over the years, and they have lasted for years. Later I either gave them away, or sold them. My last trailer build was a "Tear-Drop" camping trailer which my wife and I are still using. Therefore, I Love the "Gypsy Wagon" style design, and have thought of building one myself, as it is something from out of history itself, but this one being built upon a smaller scale. - Even though the weight is only around a 1,000 lbs. I can see where even more weight, and cost, could have been cut (saved), by using alternate materials in certain areas. - - As is well known in manufacturing processes by manufacturer's world-wide. The overall strength is not in each board, material, or component in itself, but lies in the overall whole structure when (after), it is completely assembled. - - Therefore, smaller and yet lighter materials can be used in the building process, but yet still obtain the complete overall structural integrity and strength necessary and needed for years of continued use and durability, but yet save many dollars of costs in the end when building.

Hi this is a very helpful video Great work. It looks like your overhang is about 300mm (1ft) . in Australia we are only allowed to go over the trailer by 150mm. What type of timber did you use for the hooped over roof battens? Did you need to steam the timber?
Robyna Smith-keys no I used clear pine strips they bent very easy . Here in the stats's your allowed to be 8.5 feet wide . I'm glad you like it ! Sold this one just recently.
Am. Blades maybe but it has 3/4 inch stops and the hardware clamped them shut pretty good . Honestly didn’t build it for too much traveling especially in the rain . More of a yard art piece . Thank you for watching and commenting !
Diana I'm designing one for my Chevy one ton duelly 8ft bed. There is a guy that designed one with queen bed, eating table bench seats facing each other. Porta-potty. Cooking area, room to spare!!!
Put cotton sheets soaked in UV rated PVC glue over the tarp/roof when smoothed out repaint with PVC glue. It sets rock hard and is wealtherproof You can also cover the roof with paper dipped in PVC.
You've done a great job there sir. Like it very much.
+Mr.H thankyou so much !

Prospector 1950 I'd like to see your builds ! Got a website or pictures ?
Is that a harbor freight trailer? I think that they are only good for about 1100/lbs
this one is 1720 so no worries.
10 foot long and about 7 at its widest point but the inside is a bit bigger than a queen size bed about 6 foot standing room.
I love your trailer!! Whats the measurements of the everything? I have been looking for something like this to build.
I had a cheap trailer the barrings for it were cheap couldn't do this too it.... Amazing all that weight. Cute doggie house on wheels Great JOB
We just used it for our Airbnb .
I love it
Best I've seen hope you don't mind but will copy to live in as easy build to copy. Thanks
I'd love to see your build ! Let me know if you need help .

Looks great. What size trailer did you use and where did you get it?
the trailer is 4x8 and hold 1720 pounds from harbor freight paid about 300 bucks.
i was thinking to go above the cab by 1 to 2 ft for window and the bed would be perfect with looking out. and ;ave my kitchen on right "!???
Diana Long that's what I'd do too ! Give a bit better aerodynamic too.
@@6bettyboo9 if you pulled it around in the rain front windows love to leak!!!

how can i buy the trailer ? and cost ?
Harbor freight you'll have to check but I think around 550$ for the 1720 pound capacity.
Can i build one on the back of my dodge quad 6 cylinder"!!!???
Diana Long for sure it not that heavy and this one does have a queen bed in it.

Could you tell me what the material is that you used on the roof ?? Thanks
+eaglehill6 poly tarp ! in retrospect I would buck up and use copper.
6bettyboo9 Yea after I watched a bit more I saw the tarp tie down holes. Not sure how that would stand up to traveling.

I've heard that these trailers are only rated for safe travel at 55mph... have you any experience with faster speeds?
No I personally have only pulled these around my yard but the tires are rated at 55 mph I'm sure if you changed the tires you could go faster.
Nice...........
do you have plans for the front and back wall?
+george vansumeren no im sorry if you check instructibles.com there is a picture there of my drawing .
ok thank you
Did you use plans or was it just your design
.
Scott Newby it was by my own design.
How did you figure out the radious for The roof
how did you fasten it to the trailer?
+george vansumeren if I remember right about 10 carriage bolts through the frame from underneath . It could be easily unbolted from the frame.
Uh...isn't it too heavy for the trailer?
David Hefner definitely not . The trailer is rated 1720 pounds . It weighs les than 1000. This thing is tiny ..queen bed on wheels.
also could i come a foot off tailgate "!??
Great
The GVWR for that folding trailer could be easily exceeded after you fill it with the load.
1720 pounds
Thats like a toy lol
Absolutely agree.
The music absolutely ruined this video.
thank you for your input ..what would you suggest ?
6bettyboo9 Why The Gypsy Kings of course.
kill that awful music
