    Should we be concerned that it will kill friendly animals/insects like bees, lizards and frogs? What solution have you found to help eliminate this? Perhaps some smaller-hold mesh wire around the unit so just small insects like mosquitoes, flys, moths can enter through adapted smaller holes? What idea have you folks come up with as a solution because it's one of the dangers/disappoints at this point to use electronic to "throw the baby out with the dishwater?" Thanks

      As far as animals go, up here in MN, I have yet to see sign that we zapped anything. I thought I had a frog sitting on the side of the old medium sized zapper until I saw it was a giant cecropia moth in this video ua-cam.com/video/oitvGlF2m5I/v-deo.html
      As for other insects, I can definitely see remains of flies, moths, wasps, yellowjackets and other bugs. A bug zapper doesn't eliminate all the bugs in the area but lightens the felt presence of the bugs. Here in MN, the mosquito is basically the state bird, so the zapper has helped with the sheer number we run into when we go outside, but beleive me, you still get bit as its impossible to just eliminate all the insects in an area.
      As far as pollinators go, my strawberries and other plants are getting pollinated without issue. But using something like a mesh smaller than a bee but bigger than mosquitoes may help target the little blood suckers a little more.

      Thanks, being built around swamp and woods is the New Orleans/Baton Rouge/LA way of adopting mosquitoes. However, I just wish to use it to catch the nasty flies since I want to use it only during the daytime. I'm not wanting to kill anything at night, when I lock my doors. :-) Thanks, Mike. I'll have to figure things out before I buy the bug killer.

    I love your laugh! They should rig these zappers to play your laugh every time a mosquito 🦟 dies :)

      Thanks for the comment and the funny idea of a zapper playing a recorded noise every time has had me chuckling to myself all week. I think the best sounds would be either something kind of like a fairy magic noise or Gandalf saying that "You shall not pass", but the one that has me thinking of the million dollar idea is song verses. So like MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This" or Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust" or even the old "Snap, Crackle, Pop" Rice Krispies jingle. Thanks again.

      @@bigmikebeardwisdom 😆 yesss or even a zapper that you can add a custom recording to it! Personally I’d record Dave Chapelle saying “Gotcha Bitčh!!”

      Ya, I just finished packing mine away for winter. Definitely looking forward to busting it back out for next year. Thanks for the comment and the view.

    So does it work better than the smaller one?

    • @bigmikebeardwisdom
      @bigmikebeardwisdom  6 місяців тому +1

      They both work really well at zapping bugs. With the increased size, I would say the big one takes out more bugs in about the same amount of time. You really can't go wrong with either one, it just depends on the size of the area you want to cover. I'll be putting the big one back up this weekend as it's finally warmed up here in Minnesota. So it has one year under its belt about to roll into a second year. I also have a small one that I'm putting up for a second year as well on the opposite side of the yard in some bushes that Mosquitoes like to occupy, which also worked really well last year.

    Do you have to ground that screwdriver to test that.?

    • @bigmikebeardwisdom
      @bigmikebeardwisdom  Рік тому +1

      No, I just held the screw driver by hand with no grounding. For safety though, I used a screwdriver with a plastic and rubber handle for a little bit of isolation. I don't know if the zapper has enough power to harm a human but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

    This video could have been 20 seconds long and delivered the same amount of information.

      LOL, I bet it could have gone like this, "Twice as big, black light for the win, happy zapping."

    Why it needs to be 20 feet away?

    • @bigmikebeardwisdom
      @bigmikebeardwisdom  Рік тому +1

      You want it at least 20 feet away from where you will be most often as the bug zapper attracts bugs to it like a black hole. Your breath attracts bugs like a black hole as well. So being close to a bug zapper would be like having a really really big black hole pulling in as many bugs as it can to a relatively small area. So by placing the zapper a good ways away, it will attract bugs away from you lessening the bugs you will encounter in general while also zapping away and decreasing the population of bugs. Thanks for the question.

    Your constant laugh is a bit annoying to hear every 20 seconds but appreciate the feedback.
