Dear sir, you are a wonderful guitar player, but your greatest gift in arranging the music, i never heard better, and i heard many great arrangements. I visited your online store and purchased few arrangements already, but looks like i'll have to budget for me, because they all sound great. Keep up with good work, maestro!
As I am working on my own arrangement I have seen and listened to all the arrangements available. In my humble opinion your arrangement is the best. Your choice of the A major is very clever and much better than D Major that is being used so often. And your performance perfectly combines the classical purity with the ragtime feeling, which is something that is obviously present in Joplin’s music.
That's very kind, thanks. It's a tricky piece. Have a listen to my arrangement of The Easy Winners on Spotify, you might get a few ideas. The album is called Summertime.
When I do an arrangement I make a point of not listening to others as I don't want to subconsciously take ideas and keep my mind open to different keys etc. So I haven't actually heard the other version! Thanks for watching 👍
Superb arrangement, musicality and performance! Close enough to the ragtime spirit (much more than John William ' version) and combining the refinement of classical technique. The phrasing's got swing and the tone is absolutely pure. Real mastery here a pleasure to listen too.
I was told Scott Joplin insisted it must be played slowly. I questioned this and it was added they played it fast because piano rolls were limited to 5 minutes. What do you think? Your speed is so good I love it! Thanks.
I would say that this one is better. I do not understand why to transpose the piece to D major (in the version of Richard Smith as well as many other arrangements for guitar) since one gains almost nothing but loses a lot - but here the A major brings lots of advantages, leaving aside the quality of performance which is stunning.
I prefer this tempo. If this is played on piano this tempo is normal. Nothing wrong with playing fast as long as the notes are clear. Actually playing fast is beneficial to our skills. The Villa-lobos Etudes is an example, it's meant to be played fast to improve our skills.
@@ruelguitar2k I don't prefer this tempo, but I think DPJ's playing is great anyway. The Entertainer is a great piece, and there's more than one way to play it well. This is true of many great pieces of music, but perhaps more true of Joplin's rags than of any other (that I know) -- they're great when played fast/ragtime, and great when played slower like classical pieces.
ruelguitar2k I love this tune. I guess I like it slower because I get to savor the tune. I get to appreciate longer the transition between the notes. Almost as if you’re vicariously composing it. For me it’s an iconic piece of music. In all of music history. It’s just perfect.
DPJFILMS it’s like sex. You can do it fast but then it’s over fast! This guy does play impeccably. Without any of the normal guitar clumsiness that is inherent in the instrument. He plays it with the perfect attack of a pianist.
@@davidjaggs Ha, I perceive your meaning. Incidentally I have just been listening to a great many of your other recordings and must say you are a top notch player and arranger. Ordered your books an hour ago, looking forward to breaking my fingers. You certainly deserve that Hauser guitar. I still do not like the Entertainer though, marmite.
Absolutely perfect David! xx
Ahhhhh! Bridget!! Thanks.. lovely to hear from you!
DPJFILMS you always were fantastic. I’m glad you’re still playing 😁😘
Always! Hope you are too.. one day I want to ask you about Frank Gamble!
Bravo, by far the best Entertainer rendition on YT. Really, a pity this has only 40k views. It should have millions.
Thank you Pera.. millions.... I wish!
Yes I agree god bless his fingers 👍
Thanks Rajkumar!
The Entertainer is really entertaining, thank you David for your energetic playing, bravo.
Absolutely stunningly beautiful. Clarity and tone are superb -- kudos to the recording engineer, as well.
I'll let him know ☺
Alien execution, just insane!
🙏
Love your right hand shape dude ! So clean, it looks like a printer
Perfectly tastefully played..
Thanks ☺️
Awesome David and Classical Gas 👏👏👏👏👌🇬🇧👌
👍👍😀
IMHO it's the best performance of this piece. It cannot be played any better! Well done...
Thanks 🙏👍
Richard Smith might disagree...
Superb playing ! Μπράβο !
🙏
Brilliant. Can't figure out why some people have put thumbs down. Goes to show you can't please everyone no matter how good something is.
Thanks Robert... one man's meat is another man's poison!
One of the best renditions of The Enterteiner I have heard!.
Thanks!
Richard Smith does a great version as well which you can watch on youtube
Love it! Im not an expert, only saw a few versions, but this is my preferred, its clean and beauty without losing the catchy sound of the original,
Pablo Heidenreich thank you Pablo!
That cured my depression . Thanks
Stay happy, thanks for watching 👍☺️

No one including Chet Atkins made any better version than this one on guitar! BRAVISSIMO!
Lol chet play it good

Wow lovely tone! The trebles sound like a piano!
Thanks WW 🙂
Brilliant arrangement. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Nick.
amazing play
Thanks Richard.
Fabulous! Just love this piece, and to hear it on my own beloved instrument is just a treat.
Thanks Dean
I have yo say that you play very good the whole famous methodes,
Thanks 👍😊
Love how you keep time true out, as far as I could tell.
Hate guitarist who just plays it like they feel it, with no sense of rhythm at all.
Thanks. . I do my best!
BRAVO!!! ENCORE ENCORE!
👍😊
This is a great arrangement. Right up there with Chet Atkins' arrangement of the tune. Very good!
Thanks Doug. I worked direct from the piano score.. it's a question of how much to leave out! Since doing this I've thinned it down a fraction more.
Fantastic fabulous 👍👏👏👏👏
Good arrangements dear
Thanks 🙏👍
Love the tone!
Thanks 👍
That was gorgeous David.
Brian Cullen thanks Brian!
One of the best!👍💪
Thank you.

Maravilloso como siempre!!
Gracias por ver.
What a fantastic coincidence! I just started learning this Piece today!
I'll be doing a film of tips on playing this piece within the next few weeks!
My guitar watches this when I'm not home.
😅
And cries
Wow!, lovely piece. Thanks David
ClevedonGuitarMan glad you like it!

I think it maybe was played a little slower. Tempi have sped up over the years.
that's the same tune as the piano! OMG! This is so hard to play!
Edit: Your guitar finger style is over 9000!!
Wonderful performance. Interesting to contrast this to Richard Smith's version in terms of arrangement, rhythm and dynamics.
Thanks for watching. 👍

Yes... they're available from www.classicalguitar.online
Quite amount of disconnects.. But still sounding good..i think this Piece is in ABA format..and first half not repeated again
Damn this guy knows is way around six strings!!!
Thanks!
Someone should make a piano arrangement of this song?
Hmmm. Good idea!
belle interprétation mais je dois admettre que celle de Richard Smith balance mieux en ragtime et plus dans l'esprit de S.Joplin
This is my song. 😀

Why does this kinda sound like the wii theme

almost onpar with Chet
That's got to be good then! Thanks for watching!
My guitar just packed up its stuff and moved out
It'll be back!
Watching this inspired me to quit playing the guitar
Too fast. But otherwise fine. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should! He’s a great player.
