Aerosmith has had an amazing career. I can find something to like on every record. Get Your Wings, Rocks, Permanent Vacation, Nine Lives, Pump and Night In The Ruts are probably my favorites.

@spiffy8576 that's completely fair and true even their worst albums have at least one or 2 songs I like such as fly away from here lol but that album is very bad. Nice lost there for sure. 70s Aerosmith is my fav for sure.

@@retro_wanderluster9962 I agree, Just Push Play is definitely the Aerosmith album I listen to the least.

    Nine Lives is super underrated.
Done With Mirrors is their most overrated.
    Rocks is the best one.
    Just my two cents.

I agree with both of these. 9 lives is definitely overlooked by most and done with mirrors I am fine with but a lot of people tell me it's not that good.

Very difficult to rank their albums, I grew up listening to pretty much all of them. Cool seeing Nine lives higher on the list. Great video

yeah it is so many are of similar quality even the bottom 4 or 5 is hard to really do. haha. Nine Lives gets way too much hate honestly. Pink sucks but there is a lot on there that's worth a listen or relisten.

Awesome man! Like you and I have spoken about before, the stuff one hears first is usually near and dear. Night In The Ruts isn't one of my 1st, but close. Likely fourth or fifth I heard. I definitely remember my brother bringing it home and dropping the needle and loving it! Obviously Rocks, Toys, Wings, Draw and Debut are mainstays...But Ruts is near the top for me! Not much into anything from the 80's after to be honest. I can listen to Mirrors and Vacation reminds me of dating my wife, so yeah, you know lol! Pump I guess is definitely Aerosmith sound. But I don't like ballads lol! Good stuff my friend. Cheers Cody! 🍻✌️🤘🎶🤘

Night in the Ruts grew up me a little bit. I never really liked it outside no surprise for years but when I revisited it recently it was better than I gave it credit for. You can tell at the time the band was falling apart. As for the poppy sound yeah it's not that great minus some songs here and there. I don't mind some of the ballads because I grew up with "hair metal" and you know how that is ballads on every album lol. I will say their classic hard bluesy sound suited them and not the poppy stuff but they had great ballads early on too like Home Tonight from Rocks. lol Women love Permanent vacation and Pump for sure :P I always dug Pump though. Aerosmith and Def Leppard really went on a rollercoaster to off a cliff later on in their careers DL especially pretty much once Steve Clark died. They raked in the money though so good for them I guess.

Agreed Just Push Play is definitely worst of their catalog. MFAD isn’t great but it’s definitely better, even though it’s too long.

I think Rock in a hard place is Great! You don't like Joanie's Butterfly? I bought it but I never reach for it and that is Permanent vacation... Pump was the last Aerosmith album I bought. Not really into what came after but I will say I like jaded.

I have to go back in listen to it I do like Lightning Strikes though it was even on Ozzy's boneyard last week! It's not a horrible album just didn't leave a big impression on me. Permanent Vacation I can't listen to that much. I didn't care for the singles that much and only really like Angel. I get that was their true comeback since DWM didn't fare too well. Jaded was good. I liked Get A Grip when it came out but it has cooled a lot since. I really got into Aerosmith at a young age and that was the new hip album of the time and the hot videos lol so maybe that's why I liked it so much. Sorry for late reply once again didn't get notification. I had to go to comments tab under the analytics page. Sometimes UA-cam just doesn't notify me for some reason.

I like the 80s metal Aerosmith productions best, and Steve Tyler far better as a yak-yak-yak-yeow metal screamer rather than a tender-sweet soul singer trying to hit higher notes than opera singers. For me, the best Aerosmith albums are heavy with great rhythm and catch, with dark spacy sounding guitars powered by millions of watts inside a massive arena
1 - 1987 PERMANENT VACATION, A++, 80s metal guitars, fast, heavy, energetic, uplifting, Tyler is a cool metal screamer all the way, masterpiece of all time
2 - 1977 DRAW THE LINE, A+, sounds like a prequel to GnR's Appetite For Destruction, great guitars, cool singing
    3 - 1976 ROCKS, A+, fast, energetic, catchy songs,
4 - 1975 TOYS IN THE ATTIC, A+, eclectic mix of 70s metal, stones rockers, orchestra ballad and blues, perfect song writing
5 - 1985 DONE WITH MIRRORS, A+, hard rock steak, macho guitars and Tyler bravado. zero choruses, horns, strings, producer gimmicks
6 - 1982 ROCK IN A HARD PLACE, A+, 80s metal guitars, fast and energetic, great songs, slick production through and through (opposite style of DWM)
7 - 1974 GET YOUR WINGS, A+, 70s hard rock guitars hard rocking and acid rock
8 - 1989 PUMP, A, hard rock, catchy pieces, unfortunately Tyler changes to soul music style and drops the metal screaming altogether
9 - 1973 AEROSMITH, A, 70s heavy blues pieces, fast and energetic, full of hip shaking rhythm and blues jive
10 - 1993 GET A GRIP, A, fast rock, fast ballads, catchy tunes, only the opening track qualifies as "heavy" though, hard rockers might be disappointed
11 - 1979 NIGHT IN THE RUTS, B, half the album is raw gritty super catchy hard rock, the other half: bloopers
12 - 2001 JUST PUSH PLAY, B, fast, slick and catchy. lyrics: too corn syrup sap, Tyler speaks directly to girls all the time, boys ostracized from lyrics
13 - 1997 NINE LIVES, B-, Falling In Love saves the album, 90s metal too unhappy and abrasive rather than adrenaline, not cool or uplifting. soul queen sound
14 - 2005 HONKIN ON BOBO, C-, a blend of blues and soul with hard rock instrumentation and Tyler singing soul queen style. zero metal screaming
15 - 2012 MUSIC FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION, F, zero masculinity all kinky jive or soul ballads, zero metal screaming. not rock music.

I think the 80s productions do sound very good like you said. I love the breakdowns of all your reasons for the ratings. You're way more in-depth than I am. You could do this better! I just love the classic mid 70s sound the best to be that was their heyday and just at the peak of their game but the 80s albums definitely had the arena hard rock atmosphere songs from dude looks like a lady to lightning strikes to what it takes. It was definitely the era of big ballads and hard rocking arena rock. Steven could hit the notes with the best of them in his prime no doubt.

@@retro_wanderluster9962 thanks for the complement! I've been commenting on lots of aerosmith reviews and I pretty much have my own thing written up, and tweak it a little each time I post. you've got a great review, and I agree on Pink being awful... it's actually catchy, but I think the video is awful, and the lyrics/vocals are awful, which is probably why it won a Grammy Lol. Keep up the great reviews, an keep rockin' !! ps -- I just listened to Get Your Wings again and couldn't get over how great the guitars sound, and how cool the lyrics and vocals are, each song so cool. probably their best 70s style and sound

@@markwiygul6356 Thanks a lot. Are you thinking of doing your own reviews you should. :) That video is really weird and just insane. The lyrics can get caught in your head especially if you see anything pink sexual or not lol but song is just way too over the top poppy crap for me. Get your wings is great and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Seasons of Wither one of if not my fav ballad and contender for top Aerosmith song for me. Very moody song.

    • @markwiygul6356

Ive definitely been thinking about doing reviews.. I have zero gear to do it though right now, will need to setup a little area. I'd like to focus on album reviews of hard rock, metal bands that were popular in the 70s and 80s, and hopefully still around. Aerosmith would be number on my list to do. Appreciate the nice words from you! Seasons of Wither, Spaced and Woman of the World are fantastic for me, and Seasons of Wither has the best lyrics of the three . . I love those and consider them moody acid rock rather than ballads (not sure if that's accurate). Of the other songs, I think all of them are top 40 hard or fast rock singles, so love the guitar and lyrics. Pandora's Box the weakest of the album, but still worthy. Aerosmith has so much diversity in music up until they scored their number 1 hit single after Nine Lives came out, sorry to say I think it ruined them and set them on the wrong path, steering them away from their core fans, and besides, the movie Armagadden was responsible for it going number one. I don't think it had a stronger grass roots following than their other ballads, and I like most of them better. They started releasing garbage as singles when Big Ones came out (Blind Man, etc) that's just me ;-/ @@retro_wanderluster9962

@@markwiygul6356 I don't have much equipment or a good set up either and I think it helps a lot. I do the same 70/80s hard rock and metal bands and sometimes I do bands people don't know here or forgotten about to give them some lovin'. I agree the sell out era of Aerosmith is mostlyl bad and not their strong suit. The Armageddon song was really cheezy. I know some fans say Done with Mirrors is the "last true." Aerosmith album because they went poppy after that and since. I kinda agree but I do love Pump and parts of Get a Grip and Nine Lives.
