Hola buenas. Good work, and a good demo, Dave. Fun to watch when you fired it back up again ("moment of truth....yes!"). It does appear that you need to have a rather steady hand to do this, though. Count me out. :-) Thanks for posting this and 73! de WX0V
Scott, I've been putting this one off for that exact reason. I was afraid I was going to "brick" the radio in the process but tbh, the procedure was fairly simple. Thanks for watching es 73!
I have the same problem. Didn’t notice it until I turned it on one day and noticed 7.025 had been burned into the display. That’s the local aussie east coast unofficial daytime 40m CW call frequency. I can put out a CQ call and get more responses than in do on any of the local Sydney 2m repeaters. One mod I did to my X108G was to repurpose the aux Jack at the back. I took the pre volume control audio, attenuated it with a resistor, and send it to the tip of the jack. That gives me a separate audio line out for digital / CW decoding independent of the volume. I also rerouted the aux audio in to the ring on the aux Jack. I made a Y split so I can now do digital modes without killing my audio as well as monitor my straight key sending with FLDigi One other mod I did was to shorten the screws that held the high power devices to the aluminium plate. They were protruding proud of the plate and keeping it from coupling to the case. They made up for it with heatsink compound. With the shorter screws, it was able to couple better and while the case got hotter faster, it kept the overall working temperature down. What’s your rig like on receive? I find mine a little quiet. It also has a slow QSK cut over from TX to RX when it’s cold. Like a really slow AGC. As it warms up, the problem goes away.
Hi Chris, To be honest, I haven't used my X108G lately but the last time I did the audio was decent. I've seen some guys 3D print out a little fold over deal to place over the speaker to direct more audio to the operator. Mine seems to produce enough volume. I do notice that when I key the mic, it spits out a "blurb" tone for not even a second. Not sure why it is doing that. Just a quick "bleep". Thanks for watching the video. Also, I appreciate the mods you left in your comment. Take care
@@ZedBeeE cheers. I’ll probably be putting up a teardown and reassemble video on mine. Not on this channel, but a new one I’m creating with a friend. All ham radio stuff. There are enough of these radios out there to make it worthwhile. I posted a bunch of info on that DK Mods some time ago. Anyway. Good chatting. Going to get on the air again tonight. Sorry that my link is outdated. I did a Google search for "maithoga 1.77 inch 45PIN Full Color OLED Screen SSD1353 Drive IC 160*128 (Short FPC)" and found them on Ebay now. Not sure if you can find them cheaper somewhere else but here is the direct link to it: www.ebay.com/itm/155045021849 Good luck and 73!
No, I never did. I just turned the radio on one day and the screen was pink. I searched around google and saw this was a common issue with this radio. A lot of people were having the same problem. Might have been just a cheap display they used? Thanks for watching and 73!
