I love what you are saying around the 11 min mark. There have been a few time in my life where I really spent time on making every day lovely. I really focused on my outfits. On my bedding. My morning and night time routine. On grooming. On decorating. How my home looked and smelled, etc. I always let it slip away and became less discerning and, frankly, lazy. And I know that I felt just so. much more content when everything on me and around me was lovely. You just inspired me to go back to that!
I very much agree. Mrs Millen Gordon has a very special gift for motivating us all. It takes hard work to have a lovely quality life but it is so worth the effort. 💕💕
Don’t skimp on the safety gear. My mom is an equestrian. Helmets have literally saved her life and the Kevlar vest she rides in has saved her ribs on several occasions. What you feel, your horse feels and if you feel safe and comfortable, your horse will feel that as well and you’re more likely to have a safe ride. Likewise if you feel unsafe, your horse will spend the entire ride looking for the “threat” it thinks you’re responding to which puts you in an unsafe position. Don’t worry about what anyone else thinks, don’t skimp on the safety gear, and don’t let anyone kill your joy.❤
Totally agree! I’ve been hospitalized from being thrown - 10+ years ago, safely equipment is always getting better and should be a priority. (I’ve been through several hats - frustrating but a must).

When you spoke about the jokes and criticisms you get about all your riding gear, I felt that.
I started many new hobbies as an adult and take so much pleasure in that preparation, and dare I say it, shopping 😅 my family makes fun of me because I have ballet gear, swim gear, yoga, pilates, dance, boxing GEAR, and now I think, who cares?!
I like it and it makes me even more excited to do the thing so let me live 😆❤

Well done you for standing your ground re your riding and for being so positive. I can’t understand why people have to be so unkind, maybe it’s jealousy thing , I don’t know ?? But you’re doing great and the most important thing is that you enjoy it. I too have recently returned to the saddle after 20+ years and I LOVE IT , I know I’m not a great rider but just being with the horses & nature brings me so much joy . In fact I’m just off to ride now so I’ll be returning freezing cold but with a huge smile on my face, which is worth everything 😘

Haha so true about riding. There’s Western and then English riding. I think a lot of kids went to dude ranches (I went every summer as a kid), you’re thrown on a horse and go! I just wore jeans and tennies. All fun and games until your horse throws you, your foot gets stuck, and you are then dragged. It’s why I don’t ride today. My husband played polo all through college and didn’t even wear a helmet. Very smart to be gearing up!!

I loved the scarf, but they didn't have that one available her in Vancouver. My winter colours are defiantly in the warm off whites and I love the deep burgundy.

Can I say Lydia that I use your style as inspiration to up level my outfits for dog walks, holidays etc and some people mock me too. But most people tell me how great I look and that it’s so nice seeing someone put in an effort. You are an inspiration for all of us working to create a bit of magic and luxury in our lives.

I love sailing and I've sailed in all sorts of weather here on the west coast of Canada. There is something more raw in sailing, when the weather gets unruly and yes it's rejuvenating. Of course I'm not talking hurricane force weather...nobody needs that stuff.

Lydia i love this brand of bags, i first discovered it at John Lewis about five years ago, i brought a long type shopping bag in tan leather with like a brown rope detail sew on the leather then finish with both leather and rope on the handle, ive had so many compliments, i tell them its British, so thank you so much for featuring these on your channel. Incidentally your reminded me to go and give the leather a polish, very horsey leather.
The handbags you showed were stunning. Glad to see a British band being featured. Loved the way you described them. But the irony is you only carry Hermes which is the antithesis of the British bags.

I grew up with horses and still have my mom’s English riding saddle. I’ve never used it before. Being on a cattle ranch, I have been bucked off and it hurts so much! I would love for my daughters to take riding lessons and I would insist on the protective wear. Love your video!

Good for you. My friend was an amazing equestrian who was thrown (wearing a helmet, chin strap undone) and ended up with a serious head injury. She is fully recovered but can no longer ride, ski, ride bicycles, or anything that might cause her to hit her head. So thank you for promoting safety. You are always better safe than sorry.

Hi Lydia, We do ride with hard hats when riding English. Western riders generally do not. I agree safety is best. Happy trails!

I had an x student that began her working life in stables. Was moving a horse from one paddock to another, thought a helmet wasn’t necessary and was thrown. The fall killed her instantly. She was very experienced. An incredibly tragic loss.
Our steel fridge freezer combination lasted over 20 years and we only got rid of it because of the electricity bill. The newer one is less expensive. But still if you buy good products they last longer. Same with Miele Washing Maschine. Yes, they are more expensive as other brands, but they are better quality.
So glad you're bringing a spotlight to equestrian life...! But, we do wear helmets in America; we're into safety also... but there are some, who for some reason, think they will be ok if their horse dumps them on a hacking trail or in the pasture. To me, that's not safe. Typically, folks like the British who ride 'English' style wear helmets - mine was a racing helmet with interchangeable silks - my black velvet helmet was only for events and competitions, not for everyday. It's the western riders who typically ride with a cowboy hat or nothing... but I'm sure there are some western riders who put safety first... keep bringing folks along on rides, it's good for the horse world. ;-)

We have had our Liebherr wine storage fridge for 20 years. Constant temperature is key. You run the ri so of your wine spoiling when it is stored on open shelves in an area which is heated

A hair product I like to keep my hair style, and it’s not crunchy at all, Kérastase, L'incroyable Blowdry Hair Lotion. You can use it wet and dry. My hair is chemically relaxed, but if I was the add waves, this keeps the wave, and my hair still feels moisturized.

Did you ever try organic cold pressed castor oil? It works for me. I use it 2x a few week, day before wash day. It does make your hair greasy. If I have to go out I wear a hat! Lol

I have been riding horses for 21 years (since I was 9) and you should most definitely wear a helmet, ESPECIALLY when you are still learning. I have trained horses, shown the most talented show horses in the USA and also ridden in rodeo style events. Know the event you are partaking in and the risks that accompany it. As well as how seasoned your horse is, and how experienced you are. I stopped wearing a helmet at 18 when my mom allowed. But to this day, anytime I get on a horse I have never ridden before, I wear a helmet. YOU do what makes YOU feel the safest and most comfortable, it doesn’t matter what others around you are doing.
So disappointed that I can’t get that sweater-I’m in the US & they don’t have them available here! 😔

You talking about your horse ringing and uniform Lydia, reminded me of the time my sister bought me salsa dancing class course to get me out of my comfort zone and socialise. In excitement I bought ballroom dancing shoes ($350aud 10+ years ago) only to wear them once. I was the only once wearing them and it was so embarrassing as for 1 you need to have experience to use them for performances and 2 nobody else was wearing them. I think if it was private lessons it would have been another story.

I was looking at the Tusting bag, such a gorgeous brand. What is the color of the small bag you ordered? Yours looks burgundy and I only see a dark brown on the website?
I also have all the gear, but I have one of these jackets that blow up, in case you fall off. The only thing is, that with your back protector you won‘t be able to wear your beautiful equestrian jacket on your horse….It is either safety or style, both is difficult. Maybe an idea to take to your sponsor….why does safety gear have to be ugly?

@@missybelmont9830 Yes, in polo that is quite common. It has a cartridge…these jackets are quite expensive. 600 EUR, but my saftey is worth it comes with the advantage that I do not look like a Michelin man, these jackets are thinner than the protectors like the one Lydia just got.
@@lydiamillenAn idea could be that they make exchangeable covers for the protectors. So they can be adapted to the look of the day and also be washed or taken to the dry cleaners. Tartans are nice, but herringbone harris tweeds would be elegant too.

Random but I’m on the part of the video where you are talking about horseback riding. People in the west or south may not ride with helmets and ride western style but I grew learning English style and from New Jersey. Depends on where you are and the type of riding you are doing
You seemed to be more worried about your hat and your gear than about the horse, because you decided to go that day knowing perfectly well it's going to rain. You love animals, yet you kept saying after your ride how you don't care, the weather won't stop you... while not thinking there's an animal bringing you in that rain and wind. I love riding too, I understand it gives you a good feeling and while "do it for me" attitude is good sometimes, that's very inconsiderate, Lydia, when it involves an animal who has no say in this.
She's obsessed with filming herself ride to show us all instead of enjoying the experience
