We're with Jad Ghosn for Episode 288 of The Beirut Banyan.
We discuss his journalism career and transition from mainstream media to independent podcasting, and the common criticism both of us face when recording episodes with 'regime' figures.
Our conversation includes a look back at the March 14 movement, investigative journalism's role in the port blast aftermath and the potential for October 17 parties to win seats in next year's parliamentary elections.
Jad Ghosn is a former television host and documentary producer at Al Jadeed and currently hosts his independent podcast 'Reflections with Jad Ghosn'.

Jad use the patches they work cause you have the right mind set to stop smoking. Never stop trying to stop. Fail as many times you need, it’s a process. I finally succeeded after 10 tries, i’ve been trying since 2016. Keep it up
Respect to both of you gentlemen!
Hello Ronnie, it was great running into you on Gemmayze last week. This is Adnan Nasser. I found your article on Robert Fisk a good read. Hope we connect soon.
Appreciated the civil conversation. Thank you both...
Fulfilling discussion!
A great two-hour conversation - enjoy it a lot - amazing insights from both hosts - Thank you so much for this fruitful and valuable exchange.
March 14 and Oct 17 failed for the exact same reason: against HA weapons but bring in 0 program or concrete ideas to build a state.

I think that one of the main March 14 " intellectuals " so to speak is nabil abou monssef.
Jad , if you are reading , please take this into consideration
I agree!
Nabil Bou Mounsef or Feres Souaid
@@madridistas4 From Hariri's side Mustapha Allouch or Rachid Derbas
👍
I think it’s simpler than you think jad .
From someone who lived through the war , and the post war so called peace and the post hariri assassination and lately the 17th October I tend to look for patterns .
You make it look as if these people got together and discussed for years how they were gonna build a free independent state .
First of all these are a bunch of people who , when left alone could neither govern or oppose because during most of their political careers were told what to do and when to do it . Second, they were not the ones who started March 14. It was the people , and the civic society .
So when the traditional parties got on board it was aborted even before it was born .
I never for a second believed , no matter how much I wanted to that the street was gonna to manifest itself later in politics. The minute they decided that Berri was coming back even before the elections it was obvious they were going back to old patterns. We saw it again on October 17 . No matter how much they hate each other , they can’t exist without one another.
لا غالب ولا مغلوب is another pattern in the Lebanese politics.
And the most shinning proof for me is the fact that not once in all what they wrote or said as March 14 movement ( the famous bayan every Wednesday read by fares saiid ) did they once mention a civic state .
Once asked why is that , fares saiid answered in a public event بدكن تفرطوا ١٤ آذار ؟
As roni told you , the ones who were there in it for the sake of change were all killed .
I think trying to find a logical or political explanation is just a waste of your precious time .
I don't agree with the MCN : Sami Gemayel analogy. The first held a position in a single government (whether she is truly independent is a point of debate). The second has been in the political scene for at least 10 years as an MP, the leader of an old political party that once had a militia, and a descendent of one of the country's elite dynasties. Not the best analogy.
Great episode nonetheless!
When it comes to March 14 intellectual that Jad is looking for, I would recommend going for Boutros Harb, hands down.
I know Jad Ghosen but sorry who is the other guy?
Civilized Lebanese Citizens. Finally :)
This guy Roni is too americanized for even Americans taste
