The funny thing about the censored dos release The women you can pay to shake it dont actually get removed, instead. All their sprites just get replaced with no texture, if you were to go to a spot where one is in the uncensored version and interact. Duke will still hand over some cash to nothing
I was really surprised that this video didn't include the Korean DOS version where the colour of blood was changed to white. It's a pretty hilarious censorship that ends up looking worse than what it was they were attempting to censor.

Good Old Boys is a layered reference, in the movie the Blues Brothers stole a gig from a band named the “Good Ole Boys”. My head canon is that they probably conned their way into another gig with a fake band name so the cops wouldn’t bust them again.
the n64 version definetly has a bunch of cool ways to get around the sexual stuff. While I am not a fan of censorship its always nice to see it done creatively. Also being able to save the Women is great. As much as I myself dont see too many issues with Duke 3D handling of women (as in I can see that it is outdated but also see it as playing into the cheesy action movie parody the game goes for paired with the time the game released in) I like not having to kill or leave them to their fate. Something DNF atrociously mishandled. DNF really has no excuse for how it handled that stuff. It was many many years after Duke 3D and yet was even worse.
I think that's down to 2011 Forever being a weird rerun, the more you look at it: Between hitting a lot of the same beats (Uniformly in worse ways), and seemingly ignoring everything past 3D, Forever wound up ignoring little bits of development that things like 64 or Manhattan Project added. Those games fully transformed Duke into the American Austin Powers, well Forever actually regressed him into a largely uncaring psycho.
I had a censored version that was sold in WalMart. I later found a patch that restored the gore and other material, and was surprised how gory the game actually was when I saw a door close on an enemy and a gooey string of guts stretched up as it opened.
As an Aussie gamer of the 1990s, our local censorship body insisting on the 'adult mode' toggle being permanently off was frustrating, even more so for the fact that the illegal assets are still there, just made invisible. So, you'll still bump into the babes, you just can't see them. At every turn you're reminded how you don't get to play the real version of the game. To add insult to injury, less than two years later, both the PS1 console port and the Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition were released with that content intact, with out censorship board passing them uncut despite it having been "too hot for Australian audiences" only 18 months before. Truly a low point.
In my childhood I began to play the N64 version. Few years later, when I played the original one (PCMsdos) I was genuinely shock by the fact that you have to kill the babes. I think what's consider "genuine" depends mostly of what's the first version you played.
I can’t believe I didn’t tell you about this one. You probably might not know this fact, but this game also saw its release for South Korean PCs as well. As far as I can remember correctly, the blood for the enemies dying was recolored entirely white. There might be some more changes though.
They didn’t update unused sprites because they wanted to be extra safe, they updated unused sprites because someone went through a big list pf every sprite and replaced the crosses with pills, and none of them have a little note attached saying how often theyre used in-game
Yep-you look at the sprites for games (especially older ones) and you'll find that they're all basically shoved up next to each other in a single big file, sitting in rows and columns, waiting to be used.
Duke Nukem 64 was incredible, and actually broke some new ground in the console space. As far as I'm aware, it's the first ever console FPS to have a campaign cooperative mode, and AI-controlled bots in multiplayer
Honestly I like the N64 version much more than the original due to all the little references and jokes added, really makes the whole thing more enjoyable in my option.
I've never been able to get past the removal of the music, Duke 3D has one of the most iconic soundtracks of all time and the game feels kinda lifeless without it IMO.
5:50 the hanging monk was actually taken out of all versions of Duke 3D on the PS1, not just the Japanese one 7:39 The two posters inside the cinema were changed in the western release as well, I think it was less about censorship as other posters are unchanged and more about wanting to make their version a bit more unique. I had no idea they changed the graphic of the exotica poster for the Japanese version though 8:22 I always considered the geishas to be animatronics (especially as they are killable in the N64 version unlike any other women in that version) 9:50 awful indeed, and you didn't even mention the framerate 13:49 probably a space-saving measure, the game was released on an 8 MB cartridge after all
Nintendo 64's cartridge space was probably taken into the consideration, thus I can see why they would opt to remove the cutscenes and put static intermission images instead in their place. Plus, I don't see any reason why Holocaust would cause a controversy as a word itself. The fact we've associated it with just one particular disaster doesn't actually take the original meaning from the word itself, plus it's even less problematic in Duke's case since "Hollywood" already provides enough context for the word itself. Overall, I think Nintendo 64's port surprisingly surpasses the original's quality in spite of it being considered a "censored" version. To me personally, Duke 3D didn't quite hold up to the time as compared to Shadow Warrior, or especially Blood. N64 port seems to have introduced enough new features and updates that it feels on par with Blood and Shadow Warrior. I believe it's about time that we give Night Dive studios a call :P
To answer your question, as most people are unaware of this: The meaning of "holocaust" is actually rather disturbing. Its literal historical meaning is "burnt offering," in a reverential religious context. It was the Nazis' preferred name for the genocide they were committing. They saw it as an offering to God. That was the literal only meaning of holocaust before the Third Reich. So when we call a genocide a "holocaust," we're using a word with traditionally positive connotations.
18:49 I wonder if Coincident knows this, seeing how reluctant he is shooting them even if it's necessary for maxing a level - modulo that wonky kill count...
Aw hell yeah, showing off the best version of Dick Kickem - the Cursed Randy Bazinga version! It's pretty fascinating going over the differences not only between the separate ports of the game but the _regional_ differences as well. Great video!
on a topic of N64 and gore, remember how Resident Evil 2 and Turok games (notorious for the cool gore and violence) were also on N64, along with a few more. so gore isn't completely out of the box for Nintendo at that point
@@GermanPeter i mean yeah, imagine missing out on the hottest new 3D titles just because something as minor as gore and blood (especially when most of the consoles at the time allowed them to exist in games). still an interesting commentary on a time long forgotten
Another instant classic masterpete! I’ve always liked how a lot of Duke 3Ds censored versions try to keep the atmosphere intact. Replacing porno movies with action movie parodies and porno shops with gun stores are both perfect! I never liked the babes begging for death in the original either. I guess it’s dark humor, but for me it always felt more gross than funny. If there was a way to turn them off entirely without removing the rest of the mature content, that’s how I would always play the game. The N64 allowing you to rescue them was a great change!
What's really weird about the babes is that killing them does punish you by spawning monsters in. So the developers were very much aware that shooting defenseless humans is a no-go. But then they still allow you to do so, intentionally place a lot of them near explosives, and will even make it rain cash when you kill strippers. It's like you get baited. And while killing the breeding slaves is pretty much the most moral thing you could even do (as they're clearly in pain and will die once the aliens hatch), you STILL get punished for it. So why even have them? Why allow the player to kill humans if it's always the worst choice? It's just mixed messages all around. I think it was Yahtzee who said Duke Nukem 3D was the first time an FPS game had a coherent mood, but I don't think I've ever played a single FPS game with a more detached tone than this. Maybe Shadow Warrior with its blatant racism.
@@GermanPeter Duke Nukem Forever caught a lot of criticism for the way Duke acts around the babes in that game, but it did really kind of start in Duke 3D. I think it was just easier to shrug off the dissonance when they were pixelated 2D sprites. Shadow Warrior has its own set of babes that are actually treated far worse, but because they are pretty much just easter eggs and have nothing to do with the game’s narrative or Lo Wang’s character, they don’t bother me nearly as much. Or at least not for the same reason. Still really sucks that the only women in games for a while existed only to get naked and die!
The N64 port was an almost perfect example of bowdlerization done right. It took away the contested content, but had fun with it and even added features. I swear save-able babes _has_ to be backported into OG DN3D by some dedicated modder. The only bit I don't care for is what they did to the suspended babes. Those girls need love and protection too!
I always thought on the Dukai Sushi place, those ladies were mannequins, i mean, the way they are positioned does feel like it, and how they are, well, static, or how they are completely white, i don't think it was intended to be an actual human being.
But then how in the hell do they show you her breasts? If it's Duke posing them, then that's incredibly sad, but also still questionable. Animatronics, maybe? But then why do they shatter into pieces of glass?
@@GermanPeter Fair enough i suppose. Maybe they picked whatever was closest to mannequin's color, maybe they didn't know what to use for its debris graphics and wouldn't bother to make unique ones for a mannequin, which, well they aren't fragile like glass but, strange... I guess Duke posed it, it is sad, but also quite comical, which fits i guess, i always saw Duke as a comic book hero, maybe at least not in Forever.
@@GermanPeter i no longer know if you are doing to piss people like me off but CMON its just a easter egg On the comically over the top action movie game Its a gag, a goof if you will, a one off joke Like how in paper mario theres this guy that clearly dies on screen but they later make a running joke that he somehow survived and its never explained
@@GermanPeter You're drastically overthinking the woman part in general here, in all honesty. Duke, Shadow Warrior and Blood all 3 share the same sort of crude and crass humor. It's hilarious that you've mentioned "parody of action movies" throughout the movies but didn't think once that the entire woman part is also a parody of a trope. Looking at a game that's parody of action movies after drinking a gallon of political correctness wouldn't get you anywhere.
Duke Nukem 64 is my favorite version out of every version! Also the voice acting sounds better on the N64 version. I'm not sure if they re-recorded the line or what, but they just sound better than the original.
They did re-record the lines, I didn't know that at the time because I hadn't played much Duke. But he says "alien scum" instead of "alien bastards" in the intro, for instance.
@@GermanPeter that's what I thought! Although there is some language toned down, it still has swear words in it and sounds way better. I never liked how monotone Duke's voice sounds in Duke 3D. :)
Honestly I'd imagine a German localization of Duke Nukem 3D would just give him an Arnold Schwarzenegger-like voice considering he's one of Duke's biggest influences to begin with lol
I know that you're German focused, but i really enjoyed the expended analysis of other censorship difference of different countries and consoles. I hope to see more like this in the future. As for DN, I also like the N64 version for the same reason.
I've played so many FPS games without music that I don't even notice that anymore. I played through Wolfenstein 3D on the GBA like five times, and that game just doesn't have an OST for me. Only the other ports do.
In an interview made during or shortly after the port's development the developer said they could only manage to play either Duke's one-liners or music, and they considered the former more important (the N64 doesn't have any dedicated sound hardware, all sound mixing has to be done on either the CPU or GPU) A couple years later the same developer made Duke Zero Hour, which did manage both music and one-liners, but they also had more development time on that one.
Hell, I'd even argue that the changes to Duke Nuke 64's *weapons* were also for the better. Some days I feel as if I actually prefer the N64 game over the original. On eDuke32 of course. ;)
One thing, Duke Nukem Total Meltdown (PS1) had I think at least 2 new enemies. "Zombie Pig Cop" that wields two handguns instead of their usual shotgun as well as one called "Pig-in-a-Dress" or "She-Pig" that also wields dual handguns, I don't know exactly what made those be added but it is quite silly. One extra thing, said two Pig Cop variants are from the PS1 exclusive port episode called "Plug 'N' Pray"
Soda fits well with Duke because in the original Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem 2, soda is a health item, when Duke collects a soda can, he is healed by 1, and if you shoot the can, grab it before it explodes for points. Yeah, Duke should focus more on getting his act together, save women, instead of thinking of getting drunk and laid, since Duke was a great hero. Before the events of Duke Nukem, Duke Nukem worked for the US military, then he worked for the CIA to stop an evil scientist named Dr. Proton. Then in Duke Nukem 2, since Duke was really strong, an alien race known as the Rigelatins kidnapped Duke so his brain can be surgically placed in a war computer to conquer the Earth. The censorship for the JP PS1 port was inconsistent. I thought Japanese loved violence and sex in their games. Changing the lines for the PS1 version felt like censoring lines from a language you don't know. Japanese people can speak English but only what they know and short sentences.
Oh, man, the N64 version is so close to the version of Duke3D that I wish existed (and for a short time tried to create myself). I feel it goes a little too far in some places, like the removing of alcohol, and not quite far enough in a couple places, like one of the movie replacements I felt was still a bit much, but getting rid of most of the explicit sexual content while not only keeping the gore but for the most part *improving* it? If it were ported to the original DOS version so I could play it on a period-appropriate computer that would be perfect.
The N64 version does come as a surprise. The game doesn't get as mature as "Conker's Bad Fur Day", but it definitely feels like playing a whole new game.
about that women statue that flashes her breasts. I would guess the idea is that its just a function of the staue. Like you were to press a button and it does that. I also... am unsure if the game really does objectify women. Yes there are alot of stripclubs a porn theatre and dirty book store and alot of women are seen in revealing outfits and are under the threat of being raped by the aliens. But also something to consider is that you get punished for killing any woman by the game spawning enemies. Duke himself also never makes any uncomfortable remarks with him only saying shit like "Shake it baby" with strippers who... i presume are doing that stuff because they want to and not because they got forced to. Atleast thats how i see it. If you wanna call a duke nukem game problematic in its handling of women look at the official release of Duke nukem forever.
"Duke gets punished for killing innocent women in cold blood" is not a good response to the claim that women are being objectified. Being punished for slaughtering innocents is such a low bar to cross. It should be the default. Especially if they could have also just made it so you can't shoot them at all. The game does objectify women, and that's not a controversial statement. Almost every single female character is either half-naked, a sex worker, or both. Nothing wrong with any of those, but it IS objectification. They're portraying women as sex objects. Something for players to oggle at. They don't have any agency, they're just decoration. I mean, you literally said it yourself: "there are alot of stripclubs a porn theatre and dirty book store and alot of women are seen in revealing outfits and are under the threat of being raped by the aliens". That's pretty much the definition of sexual objectification. I didn't call it problematic or anything, it's just super immature and aged horribly, and even within the context of the game it's shlocky. Yes, Forever is even worse at it, but to pretend like it came out of nowhere is silly. You already had alien breeding slaves in DN3D, very prominently so.
yeah you are right. Guess i phrased it a bit weird. That and I am used to poeple claiming the game is problematic and bad for these reasons. Again sorry for being a bit to hasty there. @@GermanPeter
i like to think the updated graffiti in the n64 version was just the texture artists for the port having fun. after all they already changed so much and they were clearly having fun with it so why not take a crack at making their own graffiti for the game as well
I had both the ps1 and N64 ports of Duke Nukem 3d, and I loved the N64 port. It ran and played better, looked better, and was fun in multiplayer with bots and friends and there was coop too iirc. The PS1 version had horrible framerate but all episodes.. but to play multiplayer you had to use a link cable, something I was NEVER able to do as a kid in the 90’s. No one I knew owned the same game as me or a link cable, and you had to bring a TV and console and the game.. who would do that as a kid?? The N64 was the best multiplayer kids console.
As a 10 year old in Australia, I was mad at the censored Australian version, I wanted full blood and gore and pixelated nipple tassels, dammit, lol. From memory, there was some kind of code or patch that you could put in to uncensor the game. The only time I can say censorship in gaming was actually kind of cool was turning the dudes of Contra into cybernetic robots in Probotector.
If you ever decide to do one of these about Duke Nukem Forever, you HAVE to check out the Japanese version, which has some creative censorship specifically in the strip club level. Not only do they cover the exposed women like you'd expect, but two of the more "adult" fetch quest items are swapped out for a Duke Nukem action figure and a hard hat, with the dialogue changed to reflect it. Duke even says "I think this was something different overseas".
Duke3D64 is possibly the best for completion since the babes could be saved. Originally all you could do was kill them and fight enemy spawns that react to their deaths, or leave them behind. 64 was also my first experience with Duke, and had me looking for more like it. Which in turn had me playing DOOM on my first PC, and the next, and the one after that, and that, and th-I will always play DOOM. I also liked the football stadium in 64, it was far superior to all the others, shame it stayed there. The anniversary vrsn could have updated that at least but nah. Not low effort, Just no effort.
23:53 that's exactly why i never played Duke Nukem 3D in the past, the whole aspect of heavy focus on sex appeal on a desperate level ruins the point or the mood for shooting, which makes me appreciate N64 port so much and experience Duke Nukem 3D that way too! also killing babes is just too dark and unnecessary..
Censoring Duke Nukem is kind of like censoring Robocop. Completely changes the content because it _requires_ the things you are censoring to do what it does. 'cause, ya' know, parody/satire needs the thing it is parodying/satirising to be a parody/satire. 7:42 Ahh, the Blues Brothers. A great film I would recommend giving a watch. Though, it is definitely weird watching films that take place where you live because you recognise places and how usually locationally confused films tend to be. As in, generally people teleport to places that are miles away from each other but the film acts like they are right next to each other. I do not think it was too bad with the Blues Brothers but Ferris Bueller's Day off was uhh…filled with time travel and teleporatation. But a great film so it does not matter too much. 9:25 Why did they not just call in Jon St. John to record the lines? 9:46 Uhh…I think nothing because you said literally the same thing. So, uhh, yeah, moving on. 10:55 I do like the fact they changed the weapons. Not because the old ones are bad just because I think it is neat to have different sprites. And the Spas-12 is cool and was pop culture relevant at the time (Though, technically, you do not have to cock it because you can just put it in semi-auto mode. But, also, it looks cool to cock it.). The MP5K is also cool. 15:54 You know, it feels weird to be able to name all the firearms there. Like, usually when people think of those who enjoy (probably not the right word but I can not think of it) firearms they tend to think of those who are…annoying to say the least. But like, they are just kind of neat mechanically. Especailly old fierarms are really quite amazing feats of engineering and genuienly interesting to learn about. Still feels odd to be able to name firearms in shows, games, and what not but yeah. 17:54 That genuinely made me laugh, thank you for that. 18:04 Fun fact: Jon St. John was actually a music radio presenter before he did voice acting for games. 22:15 Now that is a good reference. Glad they did not just completely remove the refereneces and instead actually put effort so people can get roughly the same experience. To be honest, if I ever were to play Duke Nukem 3D I genuinely prefer this version. Okay, bye.
N64 has the best weapons and levels.... and gameplay. Play it on pc with rednukem, that port uses the N64 game rom and plays it natively, using a mod that remakes it isn't the same.
Nintendo was all over the place. Castlevania 64 had religion all over the place. The main character does a sign of the cross right after starting. Duke 64 came out at a weird time. Nintendo had eased off on the gore censorship after Mortal Kombat 1 (the other MK titles on SNES were plenty gory), but still figuring out the rest. By the end of the 64's life, you had Conker with at least as much swearing, sex reference, and boozing as Duke. Even Duke Nukem Zero Hour, which was an exclusive to the system, had quite a bit of sexual content. As for for Duke 64 itself, some of the changes were pretty good. Saving babes made a lot of sense both in character (Duke loves the ladies... of course he's going to save them) and gameplay (more objectives).
I wasn't sure why you weren't covering the Saturn port here, but looking it up, not only is the game uncensored but a Saturn-exclusive hidden sequel to Death Tank is unlockable by destroying all the toilets in the game. Fuck yeah Saturn wins again.
And to think we where going to get a remake of Duke 3D called 3D reloaded but the di*k known as Randy Pitchford had it shut down because he knew it was better than Duke Forever, still can't believe nearly every one of these 90's FPS haven't gotten a official HD port it's either half baked like Blood Fresh supply or small tweaks like Shadow Warrior,

5:50 the hanging monk was actually taken out of all versions of Duke 3D on the PS1, not just the Japanese one
7:39 The two posters inside the cinema were changed in the western release as well, I think it was less about censorship as other posters are unchanged and more about wanting to make their version a bit more unique. I had no idea they changed the graphic of the exotica poster for the Japanese version though
8:22 I always considered the geishas to be animatronics (especially as they are killable in the N64 version unlike any other women in that version)
9:50 awful indeed, and you didn't even mention the framerate
13:49 probably a space-saving measure, the game was released on an 8 MB cartridge after all
Oh, my bad then!
Also the South Korean DOS version which changed the blood from red to white.
Oh my GOD I wish you had told me sooner! That's hilarious, I love it!
Yeah, Quake and Doom 64 as well. They really loosened up on that after the SNES era, presumably because they realized it made them money.
@@GermanPeter i mean yeah, imagine missing out on the hottest new 3D titles just because something as minor as gore and blood (especially when most of the consoles at the time allowed them to exist in games). still an interesting commentary on a time long forgotten
@@GermanPeter Don't forget how Mortal Kombat on SNES removed blood but it sold poorly so MK2 on SNES added it back in and it did better.
Hearing about changes in regions other than Germany is just as fun! I'm all for that kinda stuff from time to time! :)
"Your face, your face, what's the difference?" made me go into a coughing fit out of laughter
@@GermanPeter So - "Duke Nights At Freddies"? *shudder*
@@GermanPeter i no longer know if you are doing to piss people like me off but CMON its just a easter egg
On the comically over the top action movie game
Its a gag, a goof if you will, a one off joke
Like how in paper mario theres this guy that clearly dies on screen but they later make a running joke that he somehow survived and its never explained
The geisha could be a sort of cyberpunk style advertisement reference. But I don't know
Honestly i don't mind you expanding your content to cover censored games in general not only the ones in Germany
It’s nice to see Australia even mentioned, in a video. Even if it’s just a “sort of” port.
Honestly I'd imagine a German localization of Duke Nukem 3D would just give him an Arnold Schwarzenegger-like voice considering he's one of Duke's biggest influences to begin with lol
Bruce Willis' VA voices him in Duke Nukem Forever!
Darn, those [REDACTED] spoony bards shot up my ride!
You forgot about the South Korean port that turns the blood white.
I know that you're German focused, but i really enjoyed the expended analysis of other censorship difference of different countries and consoles. I hope to see more like this in the future.
As for DN, I also like the N64 version for the same reason.
The only downside to the N64 version is the lack of music. That's probably a cartridge limitation thing, though.
I've played so many FPS games without music that I don't even notice that anymore. I played through Wolfenstein 3D on the GBA like five times, and that game just doesn't have an OST for me. Only the other ports do.
In an interview made during or shortly after the port's development the developer said they could only manage to play either Duke's one-liners or music, and they considered the former more important (the N64 doesn't have any dedicated sound hardware, all sound mixing has to be done on either the CPU or GPU)
A couple years later the same developer made Duke Zero Hour, which did manage both music and one-liners, but they also had more development time on that one.
@@Phredreeke Yeah, including Duke's voice lines was probably the right call. The game just feels empty without them.

Good work mate, bringing knowledge to light instead of just repackaging it! ❤
Imo one of the best ways to play Duke 3D is the EDuke Port of Duke 64 with the PS1 soundtrack
One extra thing, said two Pig Cop variants are from the PS1 exclusive port episode called "Plug 'N' Pray"
saving mechanic is probably best chang tbh
Duke Nukem 3D is such a core game for me and I love the detail you go into here!
You're welcome! Love your videos, by the way!
18:27 - wow, that Balls of Steel is even more risque than the original! :D
I love the N64 port because it had bots in multiplayer mode, and I played that mode A LOT as a solo kid with no siblings.
I'm starting to see more and more pharmacies switch to a green cross, which makes them feel a little bit less weird over time.
I had to make a special German version of my game A Fools Art because of these silly laws. Now all the Nazis in paintings have little heart arm bands
The N64 version does come as a surprise. The game doesn't get as mature as "Conker's Bad Fur Day", but it definitely feels like playing a whole new game.
Take a shot every time Peter says "incredibly."
Also take a shot for each time I say "however" and "for some reason", and you'll be dead after 2 minutes.
Ima be frank, the N64 one being "Vitamin X" fits, tldr:
80's/90's Action Cartoons in America, had Vitamin Z or such.
the world gets a little bit better when germanpeter uploads
And the world gets even better when you comment :)
about that women statue that flashes her breasts.
@@GermanPeter
i like to think the updated graffiti in the n64 version was just the texture artists for the port having fun. after all they already changed so much and they were clearly having fun with it so why not take a crack at making their own graffiti for the game as well
Yeah, pretty sure it was either that or the old graffiti not being high-res enough.
I remember the shattering Geisha. Animatronic maybe? It was odd.
"Your face, your face, what's the difference"
Who knew my face is the same thing as my face.
It was funny that they repeat "Your face" twice when the word "bum" was right there.
Sure it didn't rhyme, but it made much more sense.
Would be cool to have a mod with all the cool parts of these "censored versions" put togheter, without the downsides
"Your face, your face, what's the difference?"
None, Duke. They are both faces.
This series is so interesting, I love your stuff lol :D
I had to click on a video with Duke Nukem's censored moobs.
this is my favorite episode of WorldWidePeter
If you ever decide to do one of these about Duke Nukem Forever, you HAVE to check out the Japanese version, which has some creative censorship specifically in the strip club level.
Not only do they cover the exposed women like you'd expect, but two of the more "adult" fetch quest items are swapped out for a Duke Nukem action figure and a hard hat, with the dialogue changed to reflect it. Duke even says "I think this was something different overseas".
That's interesting! But I'm not sure if I'm gonna touch Duke Forever, to be honest.
It's time to chew аss
23:53 that's exactly why i never played Duke Nukem 3D in the past, the whole aspect of heavy focus on sex appeal on a desperate level ruins the point or the mood for shooting, which makes me appreciate N64 port so much and experience Duke Nukem 3D that way too!
also killing babes is just too dark and unnecessary..
21:50 At least they didn't call it "Nuke". (Robocop 2, I'm looking at you)
The Dukie Nukie....
I think it's a case of the devs complying with all changes and nothing more. The censors didn't find everything so the devs didn't change everything.
I gotta know, sir. *What* is the music playing at 21:45 (I'm at that point in the video)? It's amazing!
Original music composed just for my channel by Sunnexo :)
This was so interesting - well done! 🤘
I always love threse videos, very informative and fun to watch, keep up the good work.
Duke Nukem 64 should be remade
Change my mind lol
I havent beat Forever yet
But Ill be back
Thanks for the warning 👍
Censoring Duke Nukem is kind of like censoring Robocop. Completely changes the content because it _requires_ the things you are censoring to do what it does. 'cause, ya' know, parody/satire needs the thing it is parodying/satirising to be a parody/satire.
7:42
Ahh, the Blues Brothers.
9:25
Why did they not just call in Jon St. John to record the lines?
9:46
Uhh…I think nothing because you said literally the same thing. So, uhh, yeah, moving on.
10:55
I do like the fact they changed the weapons.
15:54
You know, it feels weird to be able to name all the firearms there.
17:54
That genuinely made me laugh, thank you for that.
18:04
Fun fact: Jon St. John was actually a music radio presenter before he did voice acting for games.
22:15
Now that is a good reference. Glad they did not just completely remove the refereneces and instead actually put effort so people can get roughly the same experience. To be honest, if I ever were to play Duke Nukem 3D I genuinely prefer this version.
Okay, bye.
duke nukem 64: a more family friendly version!
I could just imagine Dick Kickem with "Your face, Your face"
The cutscenes in the N64 version were probably cut because of cartridge limitations instead of censorship
I actually didn't know DN3D had censorship here in Aus besides the N64 version.
Is it just me or were Japanese ports of American games extremely hypocritical when it came to censorship?
I think you forgot to link the PC Port of Duke Nukem 64 in the description, could you look into that? I'd love to try it out!
I'll put it in a pinned comment!
your face, your face, there is a lot of differences
N64 has the best weapons and levels.... and gameplay.
Play it on pc with rednukem, that port uses the N64 game rom and plays it natively, using a mod that remakes it isn't the same.
"your face, your face, whats the difference?" 🔥🔥🔥🔥✍️✍️
18:01 spell that backwards and it becomes British slang...
Oh my god, that might have actually been the joke!
*Cracks Knuckles*
Nobody censors our chicks, and lives!
Duke Nukem 64 should receive a rerelease!
Change my mind
Your face. Your face. The greatest in Koridai.
I wasn't sure why you weren't covering the Saturn port here, but looking it up, not only is the game uncensored but a Saturn-exclusive hidden sequel to Death Tank is unlockable by destroying all the toilets in the game. Fuck yeah Saturn wins again.
"not only is the game uncensored"
Because the game was quite literally about CENSORED Duke 3D ports?
Well damn he actually did it.
