Slug shotgun shells can get you 3 star kills on big animals and a few predators like alligators and cougar/panthers.

I’d like to add to this, as far as the trader role, if you don’t care about money as much as you want to rank up the role, just grind deliveries and supply missions no matter how many units you have. You can deliver one unit and still get the XP as if it was a full wagon. I ranked up to level 10 in 2 days by just going back and forth from the delivery and supply’s and I would just kill everything I could carry on my way back to keep the materials going. When you’re doing this shoot everything you see no matter how many stars, just get materials!!
There is a bonus for a full wagon though, I think around 2000 do for the posse leader and 1000 for members

Me and my friend been getting 15 levels a day in like 6 hours with bounty’s legendary bounty’s and missions
If you're a high rank player who is bored at this game, I have many tips for you to make the game more fun:
- Try to play the game in a more immersive way (e.g. don't go full speed on your horse all the time, don't always sprint while aiming, take covers more often during shootouts, try to take 0 damage during combats, don't always rely on fast travel)
- Try free aim (I've tried it, but I stopped using it due to the game's delayed, sluggish and choppy controls)
- Try to use all kinds of weapons (Even the bad ones, they make the game more fun and challenging)
- Try to customize your outfit more often and create more cool, new outfits
- Try replaying story missions / playing free roam events / playing PvP game modes
- Try finishing all daily challenges
- Try taking great photos

the best shotgun is by far the pump action, better damage, range and accuracy than the semi-auto, this has been tested many times by many experienced people, so buy the pump instead, its also cheaper
Definitely the pump is the way to go, I used the semi and pump both good amounts and the pump is just better.

For leveling up your bonding level you should lead your horse!
That gives massive xp, i walked from my moonshine shack to my camp and that leveled it up very very quickly😊

If you're ever waiting a timer down, brush/pat repeat, that levels up as well while you're doing nothing
Bonded my first horse to level 3 in the tutorial by leading it from San Denise to my camp. Bonded to level 4 within 15 min after that just going to the shops in San Denise and hitching my horse every time I hopped off
I’m a big fan of just going between brushing twice and petting my horse twice, every two interactions the bonding increases 💜 I’ve been playin since launch and I’ve tried leading and always come back to this method.
I’ve been playing online for years and years And I have everything in the game and all But it’s still nice to see what other people say and play about the game and pick up things I might haven’t noticed as well
just on #9 you still have to get a clean headshot to avoid damaging the meat no matter what rifle you use
You can also shoot them behind their front shoulder for a clean kill

During the Red Ben Clempson legendary bounty, there are a number of tonics in the train cars that cintinually respawn. Its a good way to get free Potent Health Cures and Moonshine while you wait for the 30 minute turn in mark.

The pump shotgun is the best shotgun by leaps and bounds relative to PVP. The Collector role should be the first role you buy. You’ll make a tremendous amount of money extremely fast. That upgrades all of your guns and your ability cards.
The bounty hunter is always the first role because it allows you to buy the other roles easier..

@@Bambino_60 Stranger missions are for people who are just starting out and dont pay well at all. However, Blood Money missions are far far better than stranger missions in terms of payouts so you are correct that a free alternative exists, you just got the specific one wrong

I just started over on playstation so this is hella helpful
I came in very late after rd2, my friend got me into the game whilst I wasn't into the narrative of the game. But after I tried it but before that I had to play the first one. But I realized how the story played out after beating the first I went back and then beat the second. All and all Iv become a very loyal fan of rd2. I love the game and it has become one of my favorite games to play and has become perhaps the greatest game of all time.

I have to call out an exception to selling individual collectables. Some are more common than others. It's better to sell off a few from your high stacks than to max your stack and not be able to get more.

One of the best tips I didn’t see here was if you’re playing on PC go into the controller settings (even if you’re not playing with a controller) and turn off aim assist. You can’t use it anyway and it nets you an extra 20XP ‘Free Aim’ bonus ON EVERY KILL. That’s a massive boost - every bird, animal, every npc, even fish, an extra 20XP every time. For reference, that’s earning you 5x the XP every time you kill a bird. Really stacks up.

Tip 101: While hunting on or off horse back use your lasso to save ammo and guarantee a 3 star rating on large game up to but not including Buffalo!
There are no buffalos in RDR or RDO.

They even require them for trader resupply missions if you're camped in the right area
I just tried to deliver some Goods like pelts, two hackers tracked me and just started griefing me, then I joined a new lobby and some guy was just sniping me from miles off as soon as I was spawning in, I don’t even know if he was hacking but that was crazy, really ruins the game for me although I love it and it’s one of the few games I can relax and play, I just wish rockstar actually cared about the game.
Play on defensive mode
Move your camp to gaptooth ridge before delivering. Way less player traffic out there.
The knife trick only works on the default lasso, not the upgraded version. Heads up
Some advice though your money doesnt matter much at the start only gold does, save up $250 and get the red chestnut arabian, if you dont wanna waste this much get the shire or a belgian draft this will set u back alot less for the price of a worse horse but atleast you will be away from the scrawny nag and will be able to upgrade the bonding level, you will have enough money from bounties when youre level 20 anyway
Also, if your doing a 30 minute bounty wait til the last 12 minutes for the most time efficient pay
The last 30 seconds for maximum pay
And wait 30 minutes on legendary bounties fot maximum pay

My recommendation for a loadout is a good long ranged weapon like carcano, Lancaster or bolt action and a shotgun like pump, repeating or semi
Another thing about the lockbreaker is its useless because shooting the lock works and i've only had 3 times i've ever been able to use it my friends and i get hyped when there is a lock we can use it on
Spamming the "let's get out" Etta Doyle legendary mission pays $200 after 16 minutes.
I find it amusing that at 12:15 you can see blud spent just about 5% of his entire playtime wanted (467hrs played, 22hrs wanted = 4.7% of his playtime)

I have Duel Wield Lemats definitely a recommendation
Litchfield repeater takes awhile to line up accurately and it's reload speed is atrocious even with it fully leveled up. Get the Lancaster. The lemat revolvers a pretty good but I'm more a navy guy myself. Another tip is your guns reload themselves every third gun, for example. If you have a double barrel shotgun, a rifle and two pistols. If you shoot the double barrel, switch to the rifle use it, switch to the pistols, use it and THEN switch back to the shotgun. The shotgun is magically reloaded. Idk if this was meant to happen from a gameplay perspective but it does.. experienced players know this and pair their weapons together

Although tbf the lemat has a shotgun shell under it so I don’t really HAVE to be worried bout a shotgun but I’d just like it in case I need it or in case I want two long arms.
Elite horses have the ability to regain 1 level of lost Energy while still Sprinting, and the Standard horse doesn't regain Lost energy while sprinting,
when I push the left stick on my controller this becomes possible every 13 to 15 seconds. You can actually get Unlimited sprint if you use this trick that I use when you max out your horse.
Can do this with any horse

Same and actually really love the pump. The actions on those shotguns are just fun. And recently gilded my double barrel so I’ve been using that nonstop.
For a Revolver i prefer the Schofield, way better reload speed compared to Navy and compareable stats. (Tho the Navy one sounds better :D)
How navy has faster reload looks way better 90s look damage is the most out of all revolvers fire rate is really good dual wield
You don't need a camp fire to craft everything if it's not a food you have hold A or Y and it should say rest and then you can craft
idk what the keybind is for controller but you can press U to aim your gun up in the air instead of shooting and accidently hitting someone

imo the elephant rifle is good for low levels that keep getting griefed. i kept getting killed and couldnt do any of my missions bc online ppl kept killing me i bought that elephant rifle and was 1 shotting level 100s so i would get it if ur having problems with online people. especially since low levels cant even get the good sniper rifle im a lvl 50 now and still cant get that sniper but i already had the elephant rifle for like the past 30 levels lol. also the shotgun u get at low level is also good but u have to get pretty close for a 1 shot kill.
I’m not saying that the rank 20 role horses aren’t good but you can get the mustang at a way lower level and it doesn’t require ranking up in a role(which is a quite difficult grind at the start) and it has quite good stats with the right saddle and stirrups and later you can get the Missouri fox trotter I think it’s called and it has very good stats
At this point, there's 3 Missouri fox trotters available from the get go in rdo, no restrictions. They cost about $1100, but you can get one of the best horse types pretty early on
That's exactly how I did it. Used a mustang for a long time, got the fox trotter a have used it since
My Mustangs are honestly the horses I use most often, I find them far better than the role horses 🤷🏻♀️
Call me crazy, but the way I play is with no off hand. I have a gaudy navy revolver on my hip with the long barrel which makes it the biggest iron in the game.
Try to duel weild them, double of the biggest iron. If you use gunsligner's choice its basically a repeater but faster
I started a new character 9 weeks ago, I'm rank 301 and haven't bothered with an off-hand either, I'm keeping it simple on this character and I honestly don't miss the dual-wield I have on my original
I stick with Delgado saddle now because its stats are almost as good, and I find the Nacogdoches saddle/hooded stirrups really ugly 😢

#94 I sell Individual Collectibles over 6 in a stack. I hate going to a spot with an item and not be able to pick it up. Its better to have space for extra items and sell extras. Nowhere do you need 10 complete sets of every collection.

it's wild that the grind is literally a carbon copy of GTA 5. I'm not as interested in grinding as much in this game as I am with GTA cuz there isn't really a lot of stuff that costs insane amounts though. Really the max grind I was doing was just to get the bounty hunting license so I can continue playing and just being immersed in the game as a bounty hunter. I really just enjoy runnin around and bein a cowboy especially with friends lol.

Story: when i got rdro i got a free horse (like the best stat horse) and my friends were claiming i got some ultimate edition ( i might have i didnt see anything other then normal edition tho) and i was confused for like 3 hours and i named him Hells Rider
Thing to add: if you get bounty hunter role i would actually say do prestigious as soon as possible as the more times you do it the harder it becomes and the more money, i grind Yukon Nik and get like 500 per time
500 each time how long do you wait? I'm bounty hunter level 22 and I only get like high 200s for cash and qbout half a gold bar I wait 30 minutes

I only use the lowerys revolver and the navy revolver with express rounds it dominates every pvp your in
Especially with gunslingers choice if I’m correct that’s the ability card that increases dual revolver/pistol damage so you don’t even need to carry a repeater, just shotgun for point blank and a sniper for long range
Kina an obvious one but if you kill/sedate an animal in the water u can use ur lasso to get em out

I can def say when you max lvl ya horse it doesn’t matter as much I got my second horse at lvl like 25 or sum n it was the black n white shire an she is faster than the Arabians sometimes then again my character is underweight and that who’ll affect your horses speed same ass feed an cleanliness
Tip 1 get a controller for full aim assist. if u play on PC dont even bother with PVP
#64 isn't entirely accurate. Your cores go down gradually when you're at camp. They only regenerate if you're resting by the fire.
Alot of the weapons can be down to preference thogh
Theres other better saddles now like the bounty hunter one that has a high rank to unlock it has -65 drain
The prestige bounty hunter does give better payouts on infamous
Bounty hunter missions are not worth it to wait for 0.30, you get no extra gold and you only get like 2 dollars and 100 xp extra, instead bring the bounty in at 4.30, the gold caps out here and the other rewards increase only by a miniscule amount.
You get more gold, xp and dollars by waiting 30 minutes

When i do bounty missions with two targets i drag one of the targets behind me with the lasso all the way to jail because I don’t have the wagon]
i only carry 7 of each collectable that way if i have a daily challenge for that item type i can still pick them up

For money, you can buy Collector role or Trader role. Collector you will need the online map to see where is the items, collect then sell. At first just collect the cards sets, around 1000 dollar in 2-3 hours.
Trader is where you hunt enough then sell goods "less work than collector but you will need to wait 4 hours for goods to be made.
If you want gold, then go with bounty hunter.
Me personally, I would start with collector > bounty hunter > trader > moonshine > naturalist

I think the rolling block is the best rifle. Sure it’s a one round fire then reload but if you’re good at sniping, this shouldn’t be an issue. Unless you miss a lot of shots and aren’t good then yeah stick to carcano

Simply because you reload after every shot where car one has six shots which means damage doesn't matter cuz if you kill a target in one shot carcano can do it in one also if not two

Yeah I got both rifles and through my years of gaming the rolling block is more consistent with kills and I use it for big animals for more consistent one shot head shots too many times has the bolt action given me a hit marker for no reason

Still don’t quite understand the roles system as it confuses me what to do after completing BH role for it is too much info to digest so if anyone would literally explain it to me as i was a 6yo i would be grateful :)
Roles are just different ways to make money and exp. If you want cash, do trader and moonshine role. Collector is also good but slow and boring unless you like using a map online for collectibles. Bounty Hunter is the only way to get gold, and naturalist role is just the slowest, most boring role of all. But if you lvl naturalist role up, you can use it to get legendary animal pelts which you can donate to your camp for a quick/ almost full wagon to sell.
I would UA-cam about the individual roles. This channel likely does but someone called. PvpCat is brilliant with rdr2 vids also, and you know you've found them whe you hear their awesome sounding russian accent. 👍 He and many others have done very decent breakdowns of the roles and tips to do it better than the game suggests.
Honestly I have all roles unlocked and am only about to max out two of them. BH and Collector... So I have plenty to keep going on with even if one or two is done.

For me, knocking out my bounties counts properly as them being alive and pays me right when I turn em in
The reward given to you is the same as if you turn them in alive, but the award tracker counts them as bounties brought in as dead. Go ahead and check the number of bounties you brought in dead before and after you turn in a knocked out bounty, and you can see for yourself.

Some good tips in here for sure but it seems to me that, similar to GTA online, people make playing the game into a chore/job. Why would I want spend so many hours playing to get BH role unlocked and max level and all that before I buy a horse? I am new to the game (level 30) and I can tell you right now if you are new, I would not play that way.
Norfolk Roadster is the fastest horse. White Arabian horse is the best tho
To get legendary animals do you have to have the naturalist map?
No you could just have your friend or someone tell you where to go or start a legendary mission for u
