Shades of Ryne Duren. Ryne was a relief pitcher for the Yankees in the 1950's who wore eyeglasses and known for poor eyesight. He would come into a game and throw his first warm-up pitch to the backstop as a way of intimidating hitters with his poor eyesight.
Not even, surprisingly. This was DURING his MLB record slump. These were the types of unlucky things that were happening to allow for such an unbreakable streak of awfulness.
Holy shit, this is one of the crazier comebackers I’ve seen. That was going _directly_ for his face. I’ve seen a few actual headshots and saved headshots, but I can’t recall the last time I saw a guy come that close to needing a rhinoplasty.
When I played Little League, I was the control pitcher, the other pitcher was very fast but always threw a couple crazy wild warmup pitches. Batters were terrified stepping into the box after seeing those.
my son was a pitcher in high school and every once in a while would throw a couple of warm up pitches to the backstop just to get their attention. Then he would start his breaking pitches at their heads and buckle their knees.
I had that happen when I was a picture in Little League. I threw a fast ball and the coach had a line drive and it hit me in the eye my glove was going up, but just the ball was too fast for me and big and the ball hit me right back in the eye and it broke my whole eye socket and my eye swelled shot and was black and blue. It was amazing. I was really dizzy and have never quite been in the same sense but I wouldn’t know that because I’m not quite the same.
Same thing happened to me when I was 17. However, instead the ball shattered my thumb into many pieces and my pitching career was over. Oh what could have been.....
"Just a bit outside".... rest in peace Bob Uecker - we miss you.
God bless this comment 🎉bob!!!
Ball 8
“Tried the corner and missed”
You read my mind
SEATTLE N EUKS IN ONE MEGA COOL PLAY WARMS HEADS UPS 4 VALAS UMPS ALAS GO MARINERS GO !
Wow! The ump’s look was hilarious, and then that catch just in time…I just kept watching this over and over!
At least 10 times for me😮
@@Rick-q9v7u..I quit at 3. But, I liked and commented!
What a look. But the catch is priceless. WOW THAT'S CRAZY
That wasn't a catch it was self defense.
Best Ump reaction

@@DDEENYcalm down
Umpire is thinking just a bit outside
Umpire ejected the pitcher for being a safety threat.
Juuuuust a bit outside tried the corner and missed. Ball four. Ball eight. 😂 rip bob
Like a rifle shot back to the pitcher...catch it or die...he caught it😮
The look. Funny
The catch. Incredible
Good reflexes, youthfulness is handy
That’s how fast it is. To even hit a ball coming in that fast is ridiculous, but he had even less time with how fast it came back to him!
You know this is an OLD video when Chris Davis makes contact 😂
Not even, surprisingly. This was DURING his MLB record slump. These were the types of unlucky things that were happening to allow for such an unbreakable streak of awfulness.

Ump + reaction= priceless!
Hand quicker than the eye..proof right here...🎉😂🎉😂
Juuuuust a bit outside!
RIP Bob Uecker!!!
@evi2083 Indeed
"Tried for the corner and missed."
❤
Gonna miss these guys… oh well. BRING ON THE ROBO UMPS
That look 🤣
Did I really just watch this about five times in a row... Dude's got great reaction time!
When I played Little League, I was the control pitcher, the other pitcher was very fast but always threw a couple crazy wild warmup pitches. Batters were terrified stepping into the box after seeing those.
Looks like Randys been teaching him the "Mr Snappy"
Ump almost said STRIKE! Then remembered he was just warming up. Looked good to him though.
The ump looked back like “damn is that Ricky Vaughn on the mound?!”😂
The year seattle went through about 45 pitchers due to injury, this was a scary moment.
Wild thing!!!😳🤯 He just needs some glasses😅😅
Exactly --- I was thinking the same thing.
To much adrenaline. Great reflexes. Probably calmed him down some after the catch.
Ump looked like he just got back from 2 weeks off and needed a vacation from his vacation. 😂
The batter said, "Welcome to the big leagues boy."
Is that what he said?
That wasn't just a batter, it was Chris Davis. That guy was scary in his prime.
A baseball mitt on your hand not only makes outs, it
saves lives!
The look is priceless.
I gotta say, after that first pitch almost took my face off, my second pitch would probably be like that warm-up pitch
Umpire was Rodney Dangerfield???
Frank Drebin. Lt, Sgt, Frank Drebin.
First ball Chris Davis touched all month.
Those high eye brows got me 🤣🤣🤣
my son was a pitcher in high school and every once in a while would throw a couple of warm up pitches to the backstop just to get their attention. Then he would start his breaking pitches at their heads and buckle their knees.
The ump's like, "It's going to be a long game...."
Ump said “bruh” with his eyes 😂😂😂
To be fair, that warmup had a good amount of movement on it.
The hitter ripped that fastball.
When one glance is all that you need to say a lot!!!
Imagine your first ever pitch in the mlb is a line drive hit to your face
Ump was rethinking his stand location 🤣🤣
Gary was probably thinking "do you really think i look like Angel Hernandez?"
Fortunate his career didn't end before it began.
Rob Miller never missed one no matter how stoned and/or drunk he was as a pitcher. Not one, not ever.
Ump was like, “what the hell was that”.
First MLB game..... You think he's nervous? 😂😂😂😂😂
Look like he SENT that UMP a
WARNING🤔🤔🤔🤔
He caught that hit with NGA Lips!
Ump's like if he hits someone, well it's defiantly not on purpose lol
Juuuust a bit outside…he tried the corner and missed! 😂😂😂😂
Looks like John Wayne umpiring
‘Welcome to the show’ moment lol
Umpire: STRIKE
COACH: WTF Was that call
UMPIRE: THATS IT YOUR OUTTA HERE
Rick Vaughn out here 😂
"Better teach this guy some control before he kills somebody"
Ump giving off Ueker energy. 😂
Ump: "this gonna be a looong night."
Ump was like: “strike”
Ump thinking, "How much they paying you?"
Good save
that unp thinking its gonna be a rough one
Ump was reacting to the language 😂
Ouch. You fnckin know that stung!!
Ump "WTF"
Pitcher "WTF"
That 'look back' from ump said 'what in the HELL'
Ump was like do I need to put my mask back on
You can tell his idol is Randy Johnson. 😅
Man saved a life today.....his
The out was fine.
Anyone notice the amount of curve on that first “practice” pitch???
Did he catch it with his bare hand and his glove together? Was that pop/smack the ball hitting his hand? Ouch.
Poor Chris. He could've used that hit
As a batter you walk away a little angry but during that walk you know you'll be grateful what happened for the rest of your life
Same thing happened to me when I was 17. However, instead the ball shattered my thumb into many pieces and my pitching career was over. Oh what could have been.....
Angel Hernandez would have been calling that a strike.
WILDTHING.
He might’ve just been farting around, but that catch was awesome
That wasn't a real ump, that was Bob Uecker......(RIP Bob)
That shit hurts
Nearly took his head off except he caught it...
Angel Hernandez would have called that warm up pitch a strike.
I umpired little league for 4+ years. This was a norm for me. Watch out.
as a batter, would you rather get a walk-off single hitting the pitcher in the face or get it caught by the pitcher.
Ump was like what the fuck
Ump like bruh u better get em out now cuz if u throw that during the game ima have a hard time believing some shit😂
Ángel Hernández would have called that a strike.
Chris Davis hit lot's of rockets right at somebody
And he almost got smoked by Freddie...cherish the memories..😊
That was a Dad look. Lol
Young guys you have to be square to the plate when you finish the pitch. It you don't see it you'll never catch it.
ump like we gonna be here a while wtf lol
They could've used that clip in "Major League".
Angel Hernandez would have called it a strike.
Ump saying let me get out of your way yikes
Put him in shortstop
I miss Chris Davis
Angel and CB would call that a strike
The glove was there already.
If that had been Angel Hernandêz, he would have been ejected!
No credit to the pitcher?? Who is it??
You sure, son?!😅
