I have been enjoying Godot with C#, just not a ton of tutorials using C# and it's annoying to look through documentation every time I wanna do something simple.

Unity is like you buy a house and after making mortgage payments for 10 years, the bank decides it's going to charge you for every time you've ever opened your fridge.
If the bankers thought the case law would result in being driven to bankruptcy, many a lending bank would gleefully pursue such strategies. It's bad enough that many mortgages have balloon payments...
They employ over 3000 engineers that somehow manage to produce nothing, their execs made $31M this year alone, and they went public meaning they have to keep making greater returns. A "tough spot" isn't what I'd use to describe it.
Most of the reason they are in a bad position financially is they used cheap money to do debt fueled growth. They bought many other companies in order to get bigger. We don't actually know if they would be profitable if they did not have the weight of all those other companies and loan payments. They are certaintly in a bad place now with interest rates going up.
I'm sorry but I have to strongly disagree! I have never had such an awkward, annoying and distracting experience in my life! This was highly irritating. She is not good for this channel.

1:23:35 To remove tarnish from silver, you add aluminum and **washing** soda (sodium carbonite) into water, not baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). You then dip the silver item into the water so that it touches the aluminum. The thicker the aluminum, the better it will remove the tarnish. There was product sold on infomercials back in the 1990s that was basically a perforated aluminum sheet sized to fit in the bottom of a standard household sink and a small bag of washing soda for this express purpose. **edit** I should point out that washing soda is caustic. If you try this, wear kitchen gloves and goggles for protection.
@Lagrange00 It kind of is a problem. I tried it back in the day when that infomercial aired a lot. I didn't catch the washing soda part and used baking soda and aluminum foil, just like Linus mentions. It didn't work. Years later I was looking for something in the cleaning aisle at the store and saw a box of washing soda. I remembered my experiment and bought it. I retried the experiment with the same small silver dish I tried it on the first time. It worked. It wasn't instant like in the infomercial with the much thicker aluminum sheet, and it certainly didn't make it gleam like I had properly polished it, but got rid of the tarnish.
@Lagrange00 I am the OP, but thank you for pointing out what you meant. I have dyslexia and had a difficult time seeing what you meant even after you spelled it out.
“Bicarb soda” is actually sodium hydrogen carbonate, and can be converted into the more corrosive sodium carbonate by heating it. (The powder releases water and co2 so it appears to boil for a while) If I had to speculate I’d suggest the alkali is dissolving the outer layer of aluminium oxide in the same way that hydroxide is used industrially, then the sulphur responsible for tarnish jumps over to the more reactive aluminium. (Internet results focus on the sulphur and not the purpose of the carbonate)
Unity also makes a change to the Personal Edition (the free one that everyone can use): it will be "always online". If your internet connection goes away, you can continue to use for 3 days offline. I wonder what kind of data they will collect.
@@knifeyonlineI mean, it will definitely only hurt legitimate Unity Personal users. Pirates will be able to keep on using the old engine versions forever, and they will continue working the way they've always been. And eventually also the new ones when they get cracked, too. Always online DRM is really no different from regular DRM from the perspective of pirates. Either way you're completely off the grid with a fully unlocked piece of software.
I'm pulling out on a project I started in Unity earlier this year. I don't expect huge sales, but Unity created a situation where I can't trust them not to walk this situation forward after they walked it back. They're losing money, but losing trust carries a gigantic cost by comparison.
The Shoo-Away for keeping bugs off food is actually amazing. I've never had to replace the batteries and never seen a fly try to get to the food underneath it (in Australia)
Jessica reminds me so much of Thelma from Scooby Doo... I always had a thing for her.... I would REALLY like to see more of her.... Seriously though, she's a great writer/creator/performer and needs more attention and air time. Maybe do a tag-team style swap between her and Dan during normal/after dark WAN show?
43:05 I wouldn't be surprised if the pressure on Plex came from Hetzner themselves - because as a German owned and run company legal liability would be taken extremely seriously. This would also explain why Hetzner are singled out.
Hetzner have commented themselves and said that that they wish Plex did not do this. why would Hetzner talk down on another company that's doing them a favor? I think this is pressure from the film industry
@@Tofflus fair enough I stand corrected. I was just speculating it might be a CYA move given what happened with Quad9 vs Sony just a few months ago in a German court. In that case it didn't matter that the judges clearly didn't understand the first thing about DNS or that Sony obviously picked on a very small non-profit just to set a legal precedent to suit their end-game.
The Ludum Dare game jam is coming up in a couple weeks which is a cool competition where people develop a game from start to finish in 72 hours. Over the years Unity has massively gained in popularity to where a solid majority of the games for Ludum Dare are Unity games. I will be interested to see the spread of game engines this time around. While many will probably stick to what they know and are comfortable with, I suspect many others will use this jam as an opportunity to try out a new engine.
Honestly considering all if not most games in game jams are free, there is nothing preventing people from using Unity unless they plan on continuing work on the game and sell it
That's not how that works. If you attend the jam and actually want to create something there then you need to use the tools you know. Game engine is too complex to rush something to completion while learning how to use it...
@@krissy_h7854 Mostly true, but in my last jam I actually dove headfirst into a new engine and I ended up making my best game yet. There are a couple weeks of this bad unity press for anyone to learn the basics of a new engine. There are no prizes or any actual real stakes so I’m sure plenty of teams will use this as an opportunity to see if another engine is a good fit for games they actually wish to make money on.

One thing about Unitys mafia tactics. Unity bought an ADservice 2 years ago and seems to be exempting the install fees (or giving big discount 80-100%) to developers switching/using their ad service instead of competition. So this is a force tactic to make developers to use Unitys services instead of competitions services.
Regarding the Unity dumpster fire: Don't be distracted by "he sold 50000 of his shares" - he still holds around 3,2 MILLION shares. This is a nothing burger.
I feel like we need to know how much that was worth, how much that is worth now, And his selling habits in previous years to know if this is a nothing burger or not. I'm open to hearing why that's wrong though
@@Sir.Craze-People should stick to the more valid arguments because the stock complaint is nothing. He's been selling the 2000 shares regularly for months. This one just happened to line up with this terrible change. Other members of the board sold more than 10x the amount he did recently: "Several others on Unity's board of directors also sold shares in the past few weeks, including president of growth Tomer Bar-Zeev who sold 37.5k shares on 1st September, for around $1.4m. Shlomo Dovrat, meanwhile, sold 68k shares on 30th August for around $2.5m."
@@Sir.Craze- As far as I know (i'm not from the States), he needs to sell of a % of his shares on a regular basis and 2000 shares of 3,211 Million are just around 0,063%. So, it is a nothing burger, a distraction to be outraged, and not about the topic at hand.
If Unity simply asked developers to self report their sales _and_ ensured that it wasn't possible for charge more than the developer made in sales then it would have been unwelcome but wouldn't have received anywhere near the level of backlash. I don't understand what these business people are thinking. Clearly they don't care about profit because this was a massive self own.
Exactly - the problem wasn't the fact that they were charging, but the crazy amounts and how they rolled out the change. If they had been less greedy and only started rolling this out progressively, most studios would just plan future development including the changes and everyone would be happy - after all devs are business people too and they understand that everyone in the chain needs to be profitable to stick around.
@weirdguybr No, the problem IS, that they charged (like this) in the first place, but you *just* proved my point that more people would've defended and supported the change if they didn't charge as much.
As my desk has two LTT deskpads on it (it's a big 80x30" uplift) - I used the configurator to visualize how they'd look if I wanted to cover most of the desk. Thanks Conrad!
Stainless steel still contains iron and can also rust, there are multiple types of it some more resistant than other. The big factor is that the chrom oxid (the part that inhibits rust) must be able to form (takes around 24 hours) if you work with it and instantly put it under water for example it can rust.
Clean, then soak your Stainless in warm citric acid for 5-10 minutes, give it a good rinse and thoroughly dry and you've somewhat passivated it (Not to ASTM standards obviously)
This is the one highlight. The unthinkable happened. Apple dumped an 11 year old connector using the speeds of usb from 2000 for a good modern connector
@@kibabyte some said that's because the non pro used last year's CPU, that cpu used the lightning cable witch used USB 2, there's a chance that ir couldn't physically use it. But I'm not too sure that is true
@@Temb_ it’s basically just because they didn’t want to slightly modify last years chip to allow USB 3.1 speeds and they probably have some left over stock
Guy this is a standard tactics.: "Dear devs if you want to continue to eat you have to install this big black 24" dildo in you back", Devs: "I will never do something like that!", them :" Wait wait, you understood wrong, it's not a big black dildo, it's only this tiny butt plug" Devs: "ah really then it's ok!". They still got in your back door, but just switching the big scare for their real target they made more acceptable.
steel soap actually works quite well, even chefs know if you rub your hand on a stainless steel sink itll get rid of fish smells etc. use it a lot when fishing and it genuinely helps
No matter how well it works, the product is still a waste of money in most cases. Chances are, you already have something in your kitchen setup that is stainless steel. A pot, pan, bowl, serving spoon, or even the sink itself.
doesnt do much when you are out fishing, steel soap cost like a couple bucks at most. also believe it or not my only stainless steel fixture is my fridge door, also do you really wanna grab a whole pan to rub your hands on for a minute and get between your fingers etc, now you gotta wash the pan@@jase_allen
@@jase_allen it's much easier to rub your hands on something shaped like soap lol, it's not a waste of money at all, you can pump soap on top of it too. The stainless steel removes smell and does it well, it doesn't have anti-microbial properties. These things only cost a couple of dollars. It's a convenience item and it's convenient. 🤷♂
For being into such wild and wacky first world gadgets, surprised they didn't get more of those weird products. As someone who browses Amazon flash sales I instantly recognized all of them.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Micro-B's downfall was not the spec. It came out right about the time that smartphones were going mainstream and manufacturers were aggressively chasing the race to the bottom. The point of Micro-B was to make the port more durable and let the cable be a wear part... Manufacturers immediately started violating the spec and made the ports cheap and flimsy too, as well as making crappy cheap cables so they could save a few pennies per unit. It was a match made in hell.

Automower is great for my 2 acres. It runs at night every other night until morning. It works around two driveways and two houses. It takes a few weeks to get it to work well. It learns and adapts.
You could have done a scrap yard wars with the mom and pop computer shop. Give each contestant 10 minutes to run through the store shopping and get the best parts they possibly can. Then give them an hour to try and get the parts working... Then another 10 minutes to shop to either find a better parts or replace parts that won't work.

1:02:22 My parents have those, they’ve got little reflective bits that apparently annoy the compound eyes of bugs and will almost always have something flashing at them if there’s enough light in the area, making them blind/annoyed enough to leave. they work pretty alright
You don't put something over the food because, 1 you would need a cover for every plate of food, 2 you have to remove the cover to get the food, allowing bugs inside, This device can cover an area with more than one plate of food. So maybe 2 for an entire table. You can easily grab the food because the blades are designed so they won't hurt you when you stick you hand in them.
@@aspzx I use Visual Scripting. Unreal has Blueprints. Unity bought Bolt. Godot terminated their visual scripting tool, for good reason, but that still means untill the community makes a new version of it. Unreal is my best option.
I hope this doesn't come across as patronizing but keep in mind that Unreal is also from a large corporation where profit comes first. You'd still have the same possible issue of some moron making a bad decision to try and squeeze money out of developers in the future.
@@BunnLilah Yes and no. Epic isn't a publiclty traded company, so investors don't have a say, in the way they do in Unity. Also unlike Unity, Unreal has their TOS protection. 2:15:00 One key element here is that this was not a decision by a court, it was a consent decree. A consent decree is essentially an agreement between the two parties which they submit to the court and request the courts to enforce, it is not a decision by the court and the court's only role is in enforcement. It is absolutely NOT legally precedential. The biggest issue with tbis is thag the companies will try to use it to intimidate people outside of court.
19:14 "Nobody's going to let you use Maya for free" - Actually, if you're a student, Autodesk DOES let you use it for free. It's beneficial for them to do so, of course, because it makes students learn their workflow, and those students will likely continue using Autodesk products after they graduate.
Hey Linus, @3:25:45 The issue you are talking about, two questions. 1) Does the feature still work inside a new user? (If yes, Permissions issue, or configurator issue...) 2) Does it work with other services disabled? One may be in conflict. Those are the two main questions that pop to my head.
How about an office wide typing test video, one for all dyslectics and one for non dyslectics. Probably some comparison to regular typing on touch keyboards of different sizes, and on touch things like swipe compared to non swipe.
The Unity stuff feels so much like they've deliberately presented a horrible plan in order to settle on something that is still greedy, but seemingly less bad.

Unity is like you buy a house and after making mortgage payments for 10 years, the bank decides it's going to charge you for every time you've ever opened your fridge.
More like every time you open your front door
Will you be affected or just wanted to cry?
@@CreekCZ he will be if this goes through. If any game gets developed for unity the consumer will pay
If the bankers thought the case law would result in being driven to bankruptcy, many a lending bank would gleefully pursue such strategies. It's bad enough that many mortgages have balloon payments...
no only every time you open your fridge after january first they arent retroactivley charging for installs
Unity really done messed up here. They are in a tough position financially but they had to know this was **the** worst move they could've done.
They did know, CEO sold stock right before 🤣
@@SanderCokarthah no way. Apparently he recently sold 2000 shares worth $75k after already having sold 50000 shares worth about $2m in the last year.
They employ over 3000 engineers that somehow manage to produce nothing, their execs made $31M this year alone, and they went public meaning they have to keep making greater returns.
A "tough spot" isn't what I'd use to describe it.
na unity is the saviour!! mobile games are predatory and this will make feel how gamers feel

Instructions unclear: i'm in the swimming pool
Um. I've definitely done this with baking soda and it absolutely worked.
(The powder releases water and co2 so it appears to boil for a while)
If I had to speculate I’d suggest the alkali is dissolving the outer layer of aluminium oxide in the same way that hydroxide is used industrially, then the sulphur responsible for tarnish jumps over to the more reactive aluminium. (Internet results focus on the sulphur and not the purpose of the carbonate)
More of Jessica and her "Mystery Items" on every WAN show please and thank you!
Unity also makes a change to the Personal Edition (the free one that everyone can use): it will be "always online". If your internet connection goes away, you can continue to use for 3 days offline. I wonder what kind of data they will collect.
Everything they possibly can. They are an ad company after all.
Every ounce of code they can scrap they can feed into some AI they have plans on.
i'm honestly surprised they haven't done something to stop piracy etc previously. do you think it will hurt us?

43:05 I wouldn't be surprised if the pressure on Plex came from Hetzner themselves - because as a German owned and run company legal liability would be taken extremely seriously. This would also explain why Hetzner are singled out.
That is quite a bit of bandwidth…
Yeah and hearing them talk about I think they both have a huge blindspot when it comes to Plex server access sales.
Dropping a comment to say that Jessica's segment was amazing. You guys should definitely do that again!
@@krissy_h7854 But 90% of the point in doing jams is experimenting though
@@krissy_h7854to be fair.. a lot of devs will use game jams to push themselves to try new things and challenge themselves.

Here's hoping they're hit with antitrust.
Yes, the ADservice is called IronSource.
We need more random segments from Jessica!
Definitely, but if they happen too often, they stop being random.
@@Sir.Craze- unity stock has increased
@@Sir.Craze- around 2mil if he sold before tuesday
@@Sir.Craze-People should stick to the more valid arguments because the stock complaint is nothing. He's been selling the 2000 shares regularly for months. This one just happened to line up with this terrible change. Other members of the board sold more than 10x the amount he did recently:
"Several others on Unity's board of directors also sold shares in the past few weeks, including president of growth Tomer Bar-Zeev who sold 37.5k shares on 1st September, for around $1.4m.
Thanks for autoplaying me this while I was sleeping, ,UA-cam
If Unity simply asked developers to self report their sales _and_ ensured that it wasn't possible for charge more than the developer made in sales then it would have been unwelcome but wouldn't have received anywhere near the level of backlash. I don't understand what these business people are thinking. Clearly they don't care about profit because this was a massive self own.
If they hadn't charged as much in their flat rate, some people would've 100% been defending this.
Well...more people than currently.
Clean, then soak your Stainless in warm citric acid for 5-10 minutes, give it a good rinse and thoroughly dry and you've somewhat passivated it (Not to ASTM standards obviously)

steel soap actually works quite well, even chefs know if you rub your hand on a stainless steel sink itll get rid of fish smells etc. use it a lot when fishing and it genuinely helps
No matter how well it works, the product is still a waste of money in most cases. Chances are, you already have something in your kitchen setup that is stainless steel. A pot, pan, bowl, serving spoon, or even the sink itself.

Linus takes home. The toilet light tries it out and falls asleep on the toilet and in love with the product 😂
The Unity stuff feels so much like they've deliberately presented a horrible plan in order to settle on something that is still greedy, but seemingly less bad.
Toilet light is useful. When you dont want to turn full lights at night
Jessica was a great addition to the show!
Just started prepping for ccde, and today went down WDM/CWDM/DWDM let's just say mind blown by the speed that can be supported over a single pair of existing fiber.
At 48mins Linus says you wont download a screwdriver but its free on thingaverse 👀
1:05:16 Those work really well. You don't need to lift covers off food, and it keeps flies away. I'm in Australia though, might be more of a thing here.
Since I see no comments about it - Jessica seems like a great addition to the show :D
My family awhile back had a shock collar for our dog but actually never used the shock function. There was a tone sound that we’d press so when the dog hears it, they know it’s us telling them no or that they did something wrong. One of the younger kids used the shock part and my parents blew up on them about it and kept the collar off the dog only till guests are over. 1:12:19
Luke is the sh*t man. Would like him to have his own show somewhere on LMG’s space.
:D
I get the feeling Luke wouldn't want his own show but I would like to see more of him in LTT stuff.
Keen for scrapyard wars
Unity just implemented property tax. If it's not bad when the gov't does it, why can't Unity do it?
I like Jessica. She has a certain type of energy that appears to do well on camera.
Also I find her cardigan endlessly mildly interesting 😀
We have our parents good sterling silver cutlery set which was only used at Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is not unusual for older couples to have complete silverware sets.
no timestamp no watch
Super messed up that YT shadow banned the time stamps, Noki posted them more than 24 hours ago and its the most upvoted comment on the vid yet it only appears if you search new and scroll all the way down to the bottom
Jessica's laugh and personality reminds me a lot of Stavros Halkias lol
$500M loss in a year? HOW MUCH OVERHEAD do they have? wtf? maybe they should slim down ALOT and especially get rid of the top fat.
Neck fat sucks
