It’s not that deep. Kai was stuck in the prison world for YEARS obviously he gonna move on and he left her so fast it was obviously just a thing to keep him company.

Kai make a big mistake. He escape the prison world. The only place when he dies he comes back to life. Now that he is back in our world I'm sure Alaric or Hope will kill him at the end of the next episode or later but this time Kai will die and will never come back. What an idiot.

I personally think Kai should use his second chance and so far as possible escape from Mystic Falls as he can and stay away for a hundred years. But his arrogance will be his downfall at the end and he will be killed for forever. Trust me Kai will die.
