This is not working for me, it has been a year...are you aware of any changes that would prevent this? I've tried it with wifi on and off, both generic and new key...it immediately fails and says that the code is bad and the box to enter the key remains on the screen???

I followed almost most of your instructions, but didn't realise I had to put in a generic key instead of the OEM key. For me this still worked, thank god for that!
the OEM key also work to upgrade from home to pro
I was having issues with the generic key working. The fix for this is to simply disconnect from the internet before using the generic key to do the upgrade. After the upgrade is complete, you can reconnect to the internet. Hope this helps! Great vid btw!

@@mcstuffy It is a MS temporary key that will upgrade from Home to Pro with a watermark appearing after 30 days if you don't get a permanent Key. must be a retail key and not an OEM Key, that requires a clean install. Be sure you have no internet connectivity when conducting the upgrade.

I just want to add that, you could also use the key that you purchase to both upgrade to 'Pro' and activate that version of Windows (being Win10 or 11) at the same time. I mean, that's what I did and it worked out just fine, now I have upgraded to Windows 11 Pro and have activated it at the same time.

Edit: this was during a clean install.
I did a standard install, without connecting to the internet (alt + f4 to skip the step).
Restarting.
I typed in generic pro key.
Restarted again.
Now connect to wifi properly.
Done.

When I tried it, it just de-activated my Windows 11 Home so I wasn't sure what to do next. I managed to reactivate Windows 11 so have left it at that for now but would like to utilise Pro.
Sorry for the late comment - but disabling internet before clicking start usually stops any errors happening

U can install a third party program that will show it for you. (Safe). Or find it out in regedit just search how to find win key in regedit

Where do I get the generic key?
I messed up and used the OEM key instead of the generic key first. I realized what I did after resetting and was in a panic but re entering the OEM key a second time fixed it 😅

I had to disconnect the internet connection before trying to activate the generic key. It never worked until I did that. Generic window keys can be found online. Get the generic windows 11 pro key for this upgrade. Then once it all reboots and is showing windows pro, reconnect internet and apply pro key

The generic windows 11 pro key didn't work for me. instead I just pasted the key I bought and that did the trick so pretty straight forward. After reboot I came back in windows 11 pro ACTIVATED !!!

Are u sure u were in the Home version before u activated the Pro version ? Did u check all the features which are exclusive for pro version ?

@@SouravSatvaya Yep have a retail hp omen laptop came with win home 10 I then upgraded to win 11 home free upgrade through windows update. Just inserted the key and it upgraded and I verified.
Same experience for me. Brand new laptop with Win11Home activated, inserted my purchased key, quick download/reboot and bam, Win11Pro showing activated, no reinstall necessary.

My issue is that I upgraded from win 10 Home > Win 11 Home and bought a Win Pro key and I activated my Windows using that key and restarted my PC and it still says Windows 11 Home...

Leslie- I felt the same way. I contacted customer support and they gave me a generic key that works. Reach out to them-you may need to be persistent w wanting to actually chat w a person and not the computerized response. It took maybe 5 minutes and I was up and running. Hope this helps!

My problem is I accepted the free upgrade to windows 11, but the upgrade changed from professional to home version. I know it was free, but damn it seems like a bit of a downgrade if you ask me. Now they want me to pay to go professional, but the last time I upgraded Windows they didn't screw me like this.

Brian, there's something I'd like for you to clarify something for me. @3:34, you mentioned getting a generic key from Microsoft. But how does one find this generic key at Microsoft?
Generic key is basically a upgrade key to change the edition of windows. Here is the key for the upgrade to pro version: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T, but you have to use powershell to iniate the upgrade. Open up powershell as Administrator type in " Changepk.exe /ProductKey VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T " and the upgrade should start, it does restart once and then you will be able to enter the key you have to activate the windows. You are welcome! :)

There was never any reason to use Home on any version. If you have Windows 10 Pro, you can easily get Windows 11 Pro straight as a full version to install on a USB flash drive.

My Legion 5 17ACH6H (A 2021 model) that i bought last year came with Windows 10 Home and i have been running Windows 11 on it for quite some time now. The other day i bought a Windows 11 Pro key and made a clean install of that Windows 11 edition. It's running great.

I tried using a generic windows 11 key that I found online but it would allow me to upgrade my home version to pro, just kept giving me an error saying it couldn't be upgraded since I didn't have a key which I do, but I can't use the key I have because its a Pro key and not a Home key. Such an annoying catch 22 with this crap

I ended up just searching up 11 pro generic key on google, and one of the top search results had a key that i ended up just copying and pasting, but had to disable internet prior to trying to activate the generic key to upgrade to the pro edition, afterwards I entered the purchased key to activate the pro edition.

Nobody has actually answered the question for people who don't know what a generic key is or how to find one. Pretend that you've never heard of a generic key and then read this question again and your answer and you'll see how frustrating these answers are. Just out of curiosity Brian why do they make two different versions of Windows apart from costing more? I have always used Pro versions of anything Windows and wonder why there are people who chose Home - unless they have bought a machine with Home preinstalled of course. It is good that you have an answer here in this video whereby the cost of updating toPro is so cheap and if I or anyone else not in the know would go and buy a Pro version. The other thing is how do they sell a key like this for such a cheap price??

Have a look on Google and search for Windows 10 or Windows 11 generic keys and you'll see a list of them on reputable websites. These are legal keys you can use but they will not activate Windows

Just want to add that I contacted the supplier and problem was solved.
Did this Restart your PC then:
Enter upgrade key: JNB6J-DBPVV-GYTC6-YBX9D-FM49G
After entering this key, the upgrade will be downloaded, and the computer will reboot automatically. The upgrade will commence and be installed.
It will show as installed, but you can change the product key to the one you purchased to fully register your win 10/11 Pro system
