  • Alice Caldwell-Kelly (Trashfuture/Kill James Bond!/Well There’s Your Problem) inducts the lads into the World of Assassination as they do a suit-only, silent assassin run through IO Interactive’s pinnacle of video game design: Hitman. Topics include the richness of the game’s environmental storytelling, the tardiness of chandelier repairmen, and that beautiful, bald backstabber of the bourgeoisie: Agent 47.

It’s incredible how much a game level can create such a sense of place that you start describing the smell of it

One of my favourite silly details in the hitman trilogy is that when you use the scope of the Sieger 300 Advanced sniper rifle the game plays Ave Maria.

Also, Releasing games on a schedule like this isn't exactly new. Started with Telltale's "Sam & Max" series, then "Tales of Monkey Island" and "Back to the Future: The Game"

I did feel that the third instalment fell off a bit. The Dartmoor and Berlin levels were great and the Winery one was OK, but here were only a tiny fraction of the 'mission stories' there were in the other two parts. Those were always my favourite bits as I enjoy all the quirky writing and puzzle-solving. Without so many stories, it had far less replayability. They seemed to have assumed that they'd make up for that by pushing user-generated content and the 'Escalations', but I found most of that completely tedious. 90% of them are based around being able to pull off obvious game mechanics with very good timing rather than really testing your lateral thinking or providing you with a satisfying payoff. I'm sure a lot of people enjoy them, but that was never what I liked about the Hitman games.
